This is what a bed and breakfast should be: pristine, charmingly decorated, friendly, gracious hospitality of the innkeeper and his wife, beautifully presented and scrumptious breakfast.
With its peaceful setting on the side of a hill, beautifully restored rooms, elegant yet warm and welcoming, incredibly comfy beds, and bountiful breakfasts served by a gracious host, the Mountain View Inn provided the perfect spot to relax and unwind. It's an easy drive from NY suburbs, and in the most convenient location for music, antiques, and exploring the countryside. Can't wait to return and see it in another season!
I love this Inn! It is a perfect one night getaway!!!!The rooms are beautiful. The beds are comfortable, and each morning the Innkeepers serve an outstanding breakfast. Norfolk is quaint, with a lot of options. I can't wait to go back.Thank you Dean & Jean Marie!
Lovely large house, restored to functionality by caring new mgmt, but still with the rustic and historic charm synonymous with the area. Quirky vintage clothing and accessory shop in the ground floor run by mgmt as a side business - big plus.
Expansive property with big lawn all around and patio in the back- big porch is perfect for lounging around with a book or tablet and watching the world move by slowly.
Mgmt. uses local farms for ingredients to make breakfast and the caring and effort shows with their presentation and attentiveness in the morning.
It's great - it's everything one should expect of a perfect B&B.
I have enjoyed the hospitality of many B&B's in the past 20 years. The Mountain View Inn stands out as the very best of my B&B experiences.
Dean and Jean-Marie provided an outstanding venue for our wedding weekend! As it was a second-time-around for both of us, the guest list was limited - our parents, our children and their significant others, 10 in all. The Inn was the perfect size for our party, and we were allowed to treat it as if this was our home to enjoy as we pleased!
Breakfasts were sumptuous and beautifully laid out. The family-sized table in the dining room hosted a Friday night dinner, our breakfasts, and wedding cake and champagne post-celebration meal on Saturday night. We enjoyed picking out some special treasures from The Gilded Peacock boutique, an impressive collection of unique vintage clothing, jewelry and accessories. Our wedding was held in front of a tranquil fire, in the the Inn's parlor.
Dean's recommendation of a restaurant in the area was spot-on; and the quiet presence of Dean, Doug and their staff in the background, anticipating our needs, helped our plans to flow without a hitch.
This place, and its innkeepers, are gems!
We had a great stay at Mountain View! Host was charming and personable, artwork was wonderful and the vintage clothing was a treat as well. Our room was beautiful!! Thank you for a great weekend!
First let me say my wife and I did not spend a lot of time at the Inn, as we were late for a family party when we arrived, and had commitments early the next morning. Now let me tell you the setting is perfect for a stay in a quiet country Inn in New England. The furnishings are picture perfect and seem to be a life long collection of innkeepers that truly enjoy what they are doing. The Johnson's provided a great breakfast,(I particularly enjoyed "Grapes in the vinyard").
I would recommend a stay here without hesitation!
We spent 3 days and nights at the Mountain View Inn and wish it could have been longer. From the moment we arrived we felt welcome and so very comfortable in the Jenny room with a porch. It was relaxed elegance with beautful surroundings and the breakfasts were scrumptious!! Dean & Jean Marie covered every angle to make our stay a very memorable one. A perfect spot to unwind, rest and watch the world pass by on the patio. Thanks to you both for a fantastic stay!
My husband, son and I had a wonderful time at Mountain View Inn. It's so clear that the Dean and Jean Marie love what they do. I would stay here again without hesitation -- if you're ever in the area and need a luxurious home away from home, don't miss the chance to stay here. Every little detail is perfect and the breakfast is out of this world!
What an extraordinary experience! The inn, itself, is magnificent. Victorian décor doesn’t usually resonate with me but the Mountain View is infused with such artistry and taste that it took my breath away. Every detail of design and comfort was thought of. Breakfast was a feast. However, the crowning jewels of the inn are the charming innkeepers themselves. From the moment we walked in the door they set a tone of informal grace and warmth. They generously shared their wealth of knowledge about the area, its history and possibilities. We’ll return again just for the fascinating conversation!
From the moment we arrived in this lovingly restored old Victorian we felt at home. Dean & Jean Marie are warm, friendly and interesting hosts who clearly have put their hearts into this Inn. Every room is filled with wonderful antiques that reflect their artistic talents along with the home's rich history. We stayed in room #4 which was very comfortable and had the added feature of an attached sunroom. We spent our evening in Norfolk at the Infinity Music Venue and had a terrific time. The venue has great acoustics and an eclectic line up of well known (and somewhat less well known) performers. Upon our return to the Inn cookies and port awaited which we enjoyed while lounging in our sunroom. Our breakfast was beautifully presented and hosted by Dean who we truly enjoyed spending time with.
We had a fun-filled, relaxing weekend in CT and will definitely return to the Mountain View Inn.
Had lovely one night get away in Clara's room- very comfortable king size bed, dreamy sheets! Just minutes away to Infinity Hall for a concert and dinner- - host and hostess very hospitable- check out concert listings and book it now!
This place is gorgeous! Everything was perfect, incredibly clean and comfortable. From the welcoming fruit juice and cookies the the morning after full breakfast, not a single detail escapes Dean and Jean Marie Johnson. This may be the best B+B I've ever had the pleasure to enjoy, but it's more than that. Dean and Jean Marie really make you feel really special and at home. It doesn't get better than this!!!
The Mountain View Inn was even better than I expected. From the beautiful wraparound mahogany porch to the freshly baked, white chocolate, macadamia nut cookies, Dean and Jean Marie's (owners/innkeepers) attention to detail was impressive. The Inn had antique charm without being stuffy, and the atmosphere was friendly and comfortable. For Dean and Jean Marie, the Inn is not just a business, it is their home. I believe this is ultimately what made our stay so wonderful. In addition to the beautiful inn and great service, the breakfast was delicious, and the homemade breads were better than anything I've purchased in bakeries.
The Mountain View Inn is only a minute from the Infinity Music Hall/Bistro, so my friend and I ate at the Bistro and attended the Dar Williams concert. The newly restored, historic music hall has an atmosphere unlike any other music venue I've ever visited. The 300 seat hall with its soaring ceilings and stained glass windows, is set up in a way that promotes interaction between the artists and the audience. Dar Williams expressed how thrilled she was to have the chance to perform in such a unique place. Apparently, word is spreading around the music community that Infinity Music Hall is a place that performers should not miss. If you plan on attending a concert here, order your tickets well ahead of time because they sell out fast. In addition, I'd recommend making reservations for the Bistro if you plan on dinning there before an event.
Overall, our stay at the Mountain View Inn was the perfect weekend trip. The convenient location in the quintessential New England town of Norfolk makes it a place I will visit again. I also look forward to seeing Dean and Jean Marie (and their rescue poodle, Noel), because when I left I felt they were more like friends and not just innkeepers.
This is a wonderful, comfortable, very clean country inn/bed and breakfast. It is an intriguingly restored large Victorian home, for many years a reknown German restaurant. The owners (Dean and Jean Marie) are warm, engaging hosts.
My wife and were there for a dinner/conference. The food and wine were fabulous (catered); the breakfast the following morning was wonderful. Great location steps away from the Yale summer music center; Norfolk's Infinity theater is just a bit farther. Great location for exploring the southern Berkshires.
Just superb. Enjoy. FC
Nestled in the Connecticut hills in a quiet bucolic corner of Conn we discovered Mountain View Inn . This Victorian Inn has been restored with authentic antiques and furnishings. The hosts Dean and Jean Marie are helpful and eager to please guests. The food service and preparation is of top quality. This Inn affords close destinations for music, art, outdoor activities and just plain enjoyment of peace and quiet amidst beautiful scenery of plants, trees foliage and birds.
Beds are wonderful, good towels and amenities. This has been one of our finest B&B experiences.Elaine and Bret
This was our third stay at the Mountainview Inn, and as always a really lovely experience. Dean and Jean Marie are wonderful hosts. We're beginning to know several other guests who also seem to be regulars. Will return as soon as possible. leaf changing season is soon.
the innkeeper sets the tone, and Mr.& Mrs. Johnson have the gift. their artistic touches have created a tangible atmosphere of splendor and opulence. i felt transported to a magical place and era.
Innkeepers enjoy the hospitality business and that equates to a great stay. Beautiful property, charming rooms, afternoon treats, expanded buffet breakfast. Great for a stress buster weekend.
