We stayed in one of the stand alone adobe cabins! We were vacationing across the national parks with my two daughters. Staff made us so welcome. Let my girls run in the sprinklers. We all loved exploring the grounds, truly a unique and magical place. If you are in the area to see Mesa Verde, you can't miss staying at Kelly place. They have amazing ruins, and a Kiva that you can climb down into. Just fabulous, most magical place we stayed in our two week western national parks adventure! The breakfast was so good, we bought some of the homemade granola to go. Wonderfully relaxing to sit outside in the evening in the beautiful garden and drink the lemonade and iced tea that was complimentary.

Our room #6 was very warm and we had difficulty cooling it down at night. However, it was very charming and clean. I loved the ambiance of the patio and we ate a delicious breakfast each morning on it. The surrounding landscape was beautiful and very serene particularly in the early morning. Marc was always full of ideas as to what one could visit in the area.

We were looking for a unique place to stay...something that was not a chain, something that was not overpriced. The reviews sounded good, so I booked a room for two days- I wish it had been longer. The room was delightful and the grounds showed off the natural beauty of the place. Mark was very helpful and knew the area well. The dining area, patio and sitting room were perfect. Native American dwellings and classes available in the summer. Look into this wonderful place for an uncommon, delightful experience. Breakfasts and guest snacks were great.

We spent 4 nights at Kelly Place and it is never enough. Wonderful location in the canyon, adjacent to Canyon of the Ancients. We'll definitely stay there again.

Kelly Place is situated in a very quiet and serene area of Cortez. My husband and son and daughter-in-law spent two nights in their two bedroom suite. Very nice room for two couples. You share a kitchen and living room which is very nice for visiting. Best part was the covered porch that had a BBQ grill (unfortunatley only the rotisserie part of the grill worked, so it took some creative cooking to grill the steaks!) Bet a very relaxing and beautiful location. We would definitely stay again.

Room below average. Room smaller than anticipated. Cooling unit did not work properly. Bed and pillows were too firm. plates and glasses very cheap. Good things: Food was good and local Kiva was exceptional.

Although the room and service was a little disappointing, the Kelly Place is still an unusual and lovely spot. Hiking trails behind the house and interesting visitors made our stay interesting. Some rooms way better, too.

I've visited Kelly Place several times over the past few years, and I have already made reservations for next spring. It is a destination in and of itself, very serene, spiritual and rich with history, there's no limit of things to discover. If you are accustomed to more posh accomodations, then spend the extra and get one of the cabins, especially the deluxe cabin which is set apart with it's own patio and very spacious. It's great to have one of the rooms with a kitchenette if you are staying awhile and don't want to go to Cortez for dinner everyday. If you are looking for a comfortable place to rest and don't need the "extras," the lodge rooms are great! So here is the reason to visit - explore! First check out the self guided tour - the kiva's are incredible - and watch your step so you don't break any potsherds. Then hike into the Canyons of the Ancients to discover ruins one after another, then hike Sand Canyon (WOW!), then go to Hovenweep, then Mesa Verde if you still haven't had enough. But by then, you'll find the crowds at Mesa Verde to be kind of annoying. Anyway, once you come here, you will get it. Oh yeah, you get a really good breakfast too...

This was our third stay at Kelly Place and each time we experience more of its charm. The location could not be more beautiful or secluded. The fact that the property encompasses Ancient Puebloan ruins, including kivas and many artifacts, plus hiking access to Canyons of the Ancients National Monument, makes it a perfect spot to explore or relax. It is close to Mesa Verde and Hovenweep, for those interested in Indian ruins and their history. The grounds at Kelly Place are beautiful. The accomodations we've stayed in have been delightful, roomy and comfortable. The deluxe cabin is our favorite and the 2-bedroom modular suite is perfect for families with a full kitchen and a great deck with grill and table for outdoor dining while enjoying the view. Breakfasts were hearty and varied and there were always cookies, muffins, fruit, coffee and tea available during the day. The extensive library is full of great books on the area, the ancient Indian culture, and the Kellys (who originally purchased the land in 1960s). We are definitely going to return -- there is too much more to explore -- and this is the perfect place to have as "headquarters." Marcia & Tom Sawyer

Kelly Place is a green oasis amid rough red rocks, Mesas and dry canyons! The common rooms are welcoming and full of ancient artifacts to learn about. As you fill your soul, you can also fill yourself with excellent food & company.
