Upgraded to an amazing room, as it was we were looking forward to our original room, but it was stunning. It got a wow as we opened the door. Incredible value for money, beautifully styled and a trip back in time. If ever we were back to the US and on this side, we would make a detour to stay here.

We stayed in the Charles Miller room with a wonderful view of Mt. Shasta. The room itself was spacious, immaculately clean and beautifully decorated with period details. There was a large jetted tub which we did not use and a walk in shower. The bathroom also had dual sinks. Our only complaint was that the shower head was a hand held shower and didn't seem to fit in its holder correctly...the shower head either drooped down or shot water over the top of the curtain. This was a very minor issue for us. The common area down the hall was also a beautiful place to rest and read, or surf the internet with your own laptop. The room also had great air conditioning, which we really appreciated because the temperature was in the 90's during our visit. There was also what looked like an electric (?) wood burning stove which I assumed would be used for heat in the winter. Included in our stay was a 20.00 dollar credit for breakfast at the cafe downstairs. The food there was delicious. If you're in the McCloud/Shasta area, this hotel is a gem and we would definitely stay here again.

Really enjoyed my stay. I went for a quilting retreat and my daughter decided to join me. We visited in the summer. While I quilted away, she found places to hike and kayak, a museum to visit, and a lavender farm about an hour away, The hotel is quaint. Each room is different. Ours had a soaking tub and I took full advantage. The attached restaurant and cafe are only open for breakfast and lunch but we also found great food in nearby towns. I am definitely coming back.

What a beautiful, thoughtfully decorated, vintage inspired gem nestled at the base of Mt. Shasta! Stayed here on our way up to Bend, and on our way back down, and could not have been more satisfied with the service, cleanliness, and kindness of the family that owns the Mercantile. We had our 10 month old baby boy with us, and they thoughtfully put a portable crib in the room upon our arrival, and let us check out late as we were waiting for family members to meet up with us. Each room comes with complimentary homemade soap, and features a beautiful clawfoot tub. Loved it here, and the food at the cafe next door was delicious! Will definitely go back!

The hotel is amazing. Loved our room, was quiet and clean. The only service complaint that I have was staff trying to clean our room at 4pm the second day of our stay (could have done a walk through earlier in the day instead of in the evening to straighten up since we were staying another night). Dining was great, but shops downstairs open at 8am. - not an entirely bad thing but in a limited dining service area it would be nice to have the restaurant or coffee shop open a little earlier. All staff was fantastic through our stay and would definitely go back again anytime.

Enjoyed the area and know that your town is very small, but it would have been better for us if the 2 restaurants would have stayed open later.

My husband and I have stayed here twice and have loved the experience both times. Delightful rooms that will please anyone who appreciates beautiful and comfortable settings and creative, soothing décor. The hosts are kind, helpful, and generous. The mercantile is charming and has some great shopping finds. The corner cafe has great, affordable offerings. We just wish it stayed open later than mid-afternoon. I am looking forward to the next time we might be able to steal away to this charming small town and to the Mercantile for a bit of rest and renewal.

Room was the perfect size for our family and the staff was great! We were very unprepared for the wedding we were attending and the staff ran around helping us find what we needed, including thread and a needle when my son's button popped off his vest! Not to mention the great breakfast that was served the following morning!

My husband and I enjoyed a nice weekend in McCloud. The Mushroom festival was going on at the same time and provided a festive atmosphere for our visit. The room was very nice and it was great to have coffee service right outside our door. The room was very clean and nicely appointed. We will return. The only downside is breakfast is served in the restaurant below the hotel and they get very busy right at opening so arrive a few minutes early if you want to be in the first seating especially on Saturday.

We went to McCloud for the annual flea market in June and stayed at the McCloud Mercantile Inn which is situated right on the main street of town. All we had to do was step out the door and we were at the flea market. We were given a very generous credit towards a delicious breakfast at the restaurant downstairs. The room was very comfortable and clean. The Inn itself was very clean and quiet. The people were very accommodating. We will definitely go again.

We stayed in the Railroad Room and loved it. We are a family of 3. The room was tastefully decorated and impeccably clean. The soaker tub in the bathroom was just what my body needed after a day of hiking and sightseeing. We snuck a peek at a couple of other rooms and thought they were both charming and thoughtfully decorated as well. Attached to the building are gift shops, a candy shop, a cafe and diner. Reception can be found in the gift shop. We would recommend a stay here 100%. The only draw back of East facing rooms is that there are no black out shades and therefore the room gets bright with the morning sun. p.s. There are TVs in the room, in carse you are wondering, but no hair dryers.

We had 1 night unfortunately having booked by phone from Australia. Then we had to twice change the date--this was handled kindly and without fuss. We had an upgraded room, one of the best we've ever stayed in. Dinner is not served at the coffee shop below, but our host made a reservation for us at McLoud Hotel, 100 yards away,, and the food here was excellent, cheap for its quality, and with local wines featuring on a good wine list. All in all, McLoud offers a great experience.

Let's just way that we planned to stay for just one night, but ended up staying for two, and would have stayed longer if we could have. So much thought and work has gone into each of the themed room. It's unbelievable how Kevin and Darlene have transformed the upstairs of this old mercantile building into a series of fascinating and comfortable rooms, full of touches that one would expect to see at a more exclusive, big-city hotel. The restaurant downstairs exceeded our expectations, and we are admittedly kind of food snobs who quickly tire of the boring, white-bread kind of food that we are most likely to find on the road. The restaurant co-owners delivered fantastic food both mornings.

We wanted to see Mt. Shasta during our tenth anniversary road trip, so reserved a room in McCloud. We were wowed by the mountain on our way there, and also with McCloud River Mercantile Inn. The interior design of this place is truly beautiful and very well thought-out! The rooms are inviting, as well as the spacious common living area. The hosts were warm and welcoming, making us feel right at home. We recommend eating before you arrive in McCloud if you will be arriving later, as there are extremely limited options for dining. However, the breakfast at the café next door to the Inn was superb! Our hosts and their friendly staff had ready suggestions for outings and things to do around town. The Mercantile has a good selection of local merchandise from honey to hand-braided rugs, and we were able to buy some really nice wine and dehydrated mushrooms for our special anniversary dinner! We would highly recommend this Inn for those wanting a quiet getaway or nature lovers wanting to explore the area. We hope to return soon ourselves!

The owners of the McCloud River Mercantile Inn have taken a building of historical significance in a charming town on the flanks of Mt. Shasta and done a beautiful restoration job that includes all the modern conveniences. Strongly recommend if you want to get away from it all, feel the history around you, but be very comfortable at the same time. Warm reception as well.

We were looking for a nice place near Shasta that wasn't a hotel but we needed 10 rooms and they needed to be nice. We found that there were a few lodges here and there but the quality we were looking for wasn't up to par. This place looked wonderful from the numerous photos they have posted but you never really know what you are going to get. I have never had so many people call, text and email to say how great a location was. These 10 farm guys and one lone woman LOVED this location. It's a bit off the beaten path but totally worth it. They have 11 rooms but each room can comfortably sleep several people. They had a great area for everyone to relax in together and the staff was phenomenal. A week later I am still getting thanked for finding such a great place. McCloud Mercantile Hotel will stay on our company list as preferred getaway location. When booking large groups it is always tricky but the staff here made it so easy. They were thoughtful and made sure to provide lots of options for other needs we would have. They were happy to make recommendations for activities and restaurants and even made the reservations for us. Our group was on a 6 day road trip from our Corporate Headquarters in Ellensburg, WA all the way to Los Angeles, CA with a different hotel, activity and restaurant each day. This is the only place they "wrote home about" and the only place they are still talking about. I really can't say enough about our experience here, it was truly exceptional.

I loved the sitting area in the common area which had a wood stove where I had my coffee and read every morning. The cafe below was where we had breakfast, and it was great. Good service at the hotel and in the cafe. Friendly innkeepers. I highly recommend the Mercantile Inn. Debra Wallace - Austin, Texas

The Mercantile Inn is a gem in the Shasta region. Great history and great people in a charming little town. We stayed with two young boys in the Railroad Room. Boys loved it, especially the bath and each having their own bed. Beds were comfortable, room was clean, bath towels and lotions were high quality, and the little table was quite useful. Spacious enough to play inside the room and a nice big seating area just outside the door (shared with a couple other rooms). Breakfast was fantastic at the corner cafe -- fresh and healthy -- and the $20/night credit was much appreciated. There are some old historical rail cars nearby on original tracks where the boys played with their dad as I packed up the morning we left. The Inn itself has most of its original workmanship, and the owners restored what they needed to with great attention to detail. Just a great place for the weekend. We would stay again in a heartbeat!

Mercantile is a unique B&B, with rooms set in an old building above updated stores and cafés. The people are very friendly, and McCloud is a small town with character and a great view of Mt Shasta. There's a great cafe downstairs that serves mostly vegan and vegetarian sandwiches and wraps.

Just wanted to get out of town for a night. The room was much nicer than what I had expected from the photos. The whole hotel is exceptionally clean and quiet. I recently stay for 5 wonderful days at the McCloud Mercantile Hotel and HIGHLY recommend staying at this amazing place. The Inn has been carefully and beautifully restored. Each room is special and unique, capturing beautifully the essence of McCloud and Mount Shasta. To view the spectacular mountain from a special room was a wonderful experience. The staff at the hotel are gracious in every way. They showed the utmost caring and support in creating a wonderful stay. Both restaurants serve delicious, healthy food, with friendly service. The Inn also was quite helpful with maps and items for touring the area. The general store is beautifully stocked. They carried several items which I had forgotten to bring with me. I highly recommend staying with them and will do so again.

We spent 2 nights at this inn in September of 2013 and were very glad we did. We stayed in room 216, the Shasta suite. The large tub was great and we had a view of Mt. Shasta from our bedroom window! You received a 20$ credit at the cafe for breakfast every morning and the food was delicious and cooked to order.

We stayed here the last night of our vacation, and what an adventure! About the time we checked in, there was a massive power failure throughout the area! The owners responded quickly with lights and since the restaurants nearby were not able to serve dinner, they put out a spread of snacks so their guests would not go hungry. Just the nicest people! The room we had was handicap accessible and huge! Lots of natural light that allowed us to read in two comfy chairs until it was almost dark. Bed was comfy and the room was clean. The included breakfast in the morning was really a lumberjack size and delicious! Would STRONGLY recommend the half portion that is available. I accidentally left my pillow there and they were kind enough to mail it back to me. I would highly recommend the McCloud River Mercantile as the best choice in McCloud and the only place that has king size beds!

4,4 sur août 30, 2013
We did a 3 for the rooms because we had a handicap room yet the 1 of the beds was too high for a handicapped person. The floors were a little slick and getting in and out of the bathroom can be difficult due to a "ridge" in the floor and inability to be able to hang on using both hands. Just making these comments to help. We really did completely enjoy our stay, everybody was extremely nice and the breakfasts were incredible! We would absolutely refer our friends and family and look forward to returning.

My wife and I love this hotel and even used some of it's unique decorating ideas in our own home. The Mathis family treats guests like family visiting from out of town with their warm hospitality and the Mercantile itself is a treasure of 19th century history. We have stayed in two of the spacious rooms and looked at two others. Amazing is not a strong enough adjective to describe the Hotel, town and its people. The McCloud River, its falls and Burney Falls are must see adventures while in the area so allow time to take in this wonderful country. One last note about this little town is the pride we saw by the local people in the town itself. It shows! Thanks again to the Mathis family, we'll be back:)

We stayed here on the last night of a 6 day road trip. We picked this place over everything else in the area so we could relax and unwind after our trip before going home the next day, and that is exactly what we were rewarded with. The rooms are a combination of rustic and eclectic that really works, and each on is different as advertised. We had the largest suite and is was very spacious for the three of us, with a very nice view of Mt. Shasta and a great little jacuzzi bathtub. It was a full house, with a bunch of hikers heading up the mountain, but we really didn't hear anyone else while in our room. There is a $20 credit in the coffee shop next door and the food was good and the menu was the usual fare. The only thing some people might not like is the 3-4pm checkin time, then your room keys, etc are put in an envelope and taped to the door. It's really more of a self-service hotel than most b-n-b's, but it suited us just fine.

I almost never give reviews but my stay at the McCloud River Mercantile Inn definitely warrants one. I was amazed at how beautiful, clean, and spacious our room was. The inn is very well-maintained and has been updated beautifully while still retaining its historical character and charm. I took photos of the room and bathroom so that I could attempt to mimic the look and feel in my own home - that's how beautifully designed and decorated it was. The beds were luxurious and comfortable and the linens were soft and plush. The owners are beyond fabulous and made our stay comfortable, enjoyable, and fun. They were gracious and courteous hosts who went way above and beyond to ensure that our stay was a wonderful one. I would HIGHLY recommend this B&B to anyone looking for a charming, relaxing, clean place to stay in the beautiful Mt. Shasta area and I will definitely return here in the future.

This is THE place to stay in the Mt. Shasta area. The creation of a bed and breakfast out of the old company mercantile is done with sensitivity to the historic context while creating spacious, comfortable rooms with modern amenities. Each has great character. McCloud maintains the feel of a small lumber company town and is a delight to walk around and enjoy the historic buildings and the great views of Mt. Shasta. Breakfast in the White Mountain Cafe - a wonderfully atmospheric coffee shop - is included. Delicious food in a fun, light-filled space.

The historic ambience of this B&B makes it seem so special. We stay here everytime we venture to Oregon. If you want staff assistance and pampering this is not the place. If you want invisible staff but excellent service this is your place. The key is taped to the door if you arrive late, no check in, no lobby. Suddenly fresh hot cookies are in the common area. Dishes and games are made available for your use.

One of the most appealing venues of the several comparably priced inns we stayed at during our road trip in northern CA and southern OR. Awed by nearby Mount Shasta, we were also delighted by the quietness of Main Street in the old town of McCloud. While there is no front desk, at the store adjacent to hotel the owner gave great tips about where to swim (Lake Siskiyu) and hike (Lower to Middle Falls of McCloud River). At breakfast in White Mountain Cafe ($20 certificate covered price) we learned from waitress of a dinner option in Shasta City that proved to be outstanding value in a beautiful setting.

The inn is in McCloud's iconic main building down town, putting you at the heart of small town America. The rooms were very tasteful and homey, not too cluttered as can be the case in some such inns. My wife and I enjoyed our romantic weekend in McCloud. There are many attractions like the falls and hiking trails, not to mention the great views of Mt. Shasta. We stayed in the spacious Wintu Suite. The room has a great design with the remnant old mercantile building updated with spa features. It seems that we were there when the room was "almost" finished. There were some finish details to the remodel that needed to be addressed. A little fine tuning would make this a first class room. The staff was really friendly and happy to share the features of the old building with us. We were able to review all the rooms in the building and would love come back to stay in some of the other rooms with the rest of our family. Early risers should take the Wintu or founders room, with the others facing the morning sun. Overall a great experience; rustic, charming, and the town may be the most quiet of any at night.

Being out of season and what with our qwirky schedules, mid week; most of the town was closed, but the owners and staff did everything that they could to make sure our stay was wonderful. The view of Mt. Shasta through our window was great! The common are was comfortable and had snacks and drinks. The restaurant downstairs recently began serving dinner. The prices were very reasonable and the food was great. The staff at the restaurant were friendly and efficient. The B&B owners were available with information and area suggestions but there was plenty of privacy. Would definitely stay here again if we were in the area. The town was a close drive to both Mt. The common area had a toasty warm wood stove burning at all times, and my favorite hot tea available all the time. Darlene, the owner was very helpful in making dinner reservations for us across the street at the Hotel. We had a lovely dinner and walked back to our room with a starry sky above, snow banked roads on either side and not another person to be seen. It was magical. We enjoyed a delightful breakfast in the diner down stairs. The food was excellent, as was the friendly service. Our over all stay in Mc Cloud was a 10. We have vowed to come back several times of year to repeat our experience.

My family, including our therapy dog, finally were able to make it through the snow storms and ended up being warmly welcomed by the mercantile staff. They had upgraded our room to one with a gas stove--which was a perfect way to shake off the cold. The facilities are extremely clean and well-managed. All is in perfect order. The rooms are spacious and furnishings appear new or to be nicely finished antiques. While staying at the Inn, the owners responded quickly to our calls and questions. The Innkeepers went "above" and beyond to help us out after one of my family members left something behind. The atmosphere at the Mercantile is relaxed, private and at the same time there is a lot of attention to detail. We hope to return soon!

We were so delighted and enjoyed our stay immensely. A beautiful town and the Hotel was fabulous. We had a great time, and we encourage everyone to go and enjoy this terrific setting. Thanks so much Kevin and Darlene for your wonderful hospitality.

We had a lovely time at the McCloud River Mercantile Inn! Free gift for our anniversary, surprise 10% off, and free breakfast (or lunch) at the charming cafe downstairs. We stayed in the Charles Miller Suite- the room was more than cozy on a freezing winter night because of the cute gas fireplace and the hot water for the two person jacuzzi tub (with colored light and jet therapy) was endless. I would bring sleep masks as the huge bank of windows (which frames a picture perfect Mt. Shasta) has shades which don't quite block the morning light (although not really an issue unless you are super late sleepers like we are). All in all, the town of McCloud is warm and inviting and we are planning another visit to the McCloud River Mercantile Inn as soon as possible! One of the best hotel experiences we have had, and my fiance is in the high end hospitality business himself, so he can be hard to please!

What a lovely town and a great and cozy place to stay! The Mercantile Inn was warm and inviting place to stay. I would (and already have) recommend this to everyone.

We stayed in a tastefully decorated, spacious room at McCloud Mercantile for 3 nights and would have stayed longer were they not sold out. It was clean, with hardwood floors throughout, had a cozy community area with a wood burning stove, small kitchenette, and a nice assortment of teas, fresh coffee and hot chocolate. Charming details - including a huge soaking tub, handmade lavendar soap, and Essential Elements toiletries. Very comfortable beds and a heater that is thermostat controlled. Thick walls, so we didn't hear all the families around us. Small television set (we didn't expect or need that), and our kids enjoyed playing board games on the table in the large and separate seating area of our room. Breakfasts ($20 credit each day) were plentiful at either of the two neighboring cafes. Kevin and Darlene gave us plenty of tips on where and how to get to places and where to buy things we need, plus loaned us sleds. Our kids enjoyed visiting their adjoining old fashioned candy shop after a day of skiing. And my husband and I were tickled to be invited one evening to a wine reception with other guests as well as the staff and family of the hosts after the kids had gone to sleep. McCloud is a charming little town, where you can walk everywhere comfortably and breathe in relaxation; and our stay at the Mercantile Inn topped off a wonderful vacation.

If you are heading up near Shasta, stay in the McCloud Mercantile Hotel. You will be graciously welcomed by Darlene and Kevin who manage the hotel, store and do all sorts of things. They are extremely helpful and very accessible and care about your well-being. We stayed for 3 nights in the 1940's room which is spacious and comfortable. Very clean. Includes a large whirlpool tub. Bathroom is spacious and the fluffy towels just right. Beds are perfect. After an active day and bath or shower, you will sink into sweet comfort. Breakfast is included. Try the breakfast burrito at the Morning Star Cafe just behind the store. You will love the infinite forests in the area. Hiking trails are a short drive from the Mercantile. Drive to the falls and hike around. Also, you will want to walk through the town of McCloud full of history. Read about the history in the McCloud binder found in the sitting room near the small kitchenette, common area. Kevin and Darlene are happy to make suggestions for your outings.

We stayed in the Arts and Crafts room. It was very large and the bathroom was as big as most hotel rooms. Lovely tiled floors in the bath with separate closet for toilet. Had a slipper tub for soaking as well as a large separate shower. The rest of the suite had hardwood floors and a lovely, comfortable sleigh bed. The only negative I have is that it wasn't exactly "cozy". Could have used some area rugs and more artwork and a sofa-bed instead of the single in front of the TV. The room came with breakfast at one of two cafes in the building and it was a "full" not continental breakfast. We had dinner in a nearby restaurant that was easily a 5-star dinner with 3-star prices.

My entire experience was amazing. We were driving from the East Bay, so we were not going to arrive until about midnight. They left the key for us outside of the door so we were able to get in. All of the people were very friendly and the food was delish. Would highly recommend to anyone!

Spent two nights here. Cute little town with an adequate amount of services. We got some lovely gifts at The Brown Dog Gallery & Gifts across the street. The Inn's staff was warm and helpful, the building was beautiful and historic. The room was very large, comfortable, and nicely furnished and decorated. Soft sheets and towels, nice smelling lotion and soap. The common area was large and comfortable and well stocked with wine glasses, coffee cups, utensils, teas and coffees, biscotti, water cooler, fridge and games. Dining was adequate but far from fancy is which what you'll find in the whole area. Great setting and jump off point for a lot of nice hiking. Don't miss the beautiful McCloud River Falls Trail.

The Hot & Tot room is one of their cheapest rooms and yet, it's one of the best we've stayed in so far. It's large, beautifully decorated with a personal touch without being kitsch as it happens way too often to my taste in B&Bs and spotless. The only thing is that the bed made a noise each time we turned around. Nevertheless, the hotel is still a favorite. The building is splendid inside and out and is located in a very cute town. We had a $20 coupon to use at the cafe downstairs and had a great breakfast. Kevin was prompt to answer my question by email before our stay. We arrived at around 7pm, the keys were waiting for us in an envelope with a map of the area. Some restaurants are noted on the map. We had booked 2 nights but unfortunately, because of the fires, the sky was very smoky and the air just smelled like a gigantic barbecue. Very very sad. My husband being asthmatic and coming from Santiago de Chile where we're leaving right now, we were looking for fresh air… Therefore we decided to cancel the second night. Kevin and his wife were nice enough to get us some money back although they didn't have to because of the late cancellation and we weren't expecting it. We really appreciated it. There are beautiful stores at the first floor, clothes, candies, espresso... Lovely!

A HUGE room in a very unique property, the upstairs of a 100 year old general store. They cleverly added modern amenities to these antique feeling room without damaging the ambiance. The service is small-town friendly and the town itself is wonderful.

It's hard to find a place with room for 5 (we have 3 little kids), but the McCloud Mercantile Hotel had no problems. They wheeled in a comfortable extra twin bed, so we had a queen and 3 twins in the room - and there was still a ton of space. Wi-fi coverage is a little sparse (they were open about that on their website - because of the old building it's hard to get coverage) but worked well in the common area right outside the room. Bathroom was huge, with a gorgeous free-standing tub, plus a modern shower. We would definitely come back.

I stayed at the Mercantile Inn two years ago on my way from Portland and Los Angeles and had such a fantastic time that I've been bragging about it to people ever since. I stayed again on the way home this month and would have stayed on the way up except that they were booked solid. I was a little fearful that I'd find Thomas Wolfe right, but he was wrong, sometimes you can go home again. Kevin and Darlene were as friendly as ever and the place was even better than I remembered. I'll be bragging about it again, even though most of my friends have no clue where McCloud is.

We had a great experience staying in McCloud at the Mercantile. Our room (and the bathroom) was beautiful and the whole building was just like going back in time to the old West. We ate breakfast in the restaurant below and it had great food, friendly service, a wonderful hometown feeling, and a great view of Mt. Shasta!. We took a walk each morning around town and enjoyed the huge pine trees, fresh air and interesting buildings from an other time in California's history. It was nice too to have the owners of the Mercantile on site. They have put a lot into making everything very nice for visitors. We look forward to returning there again.

The room we stayed in (Arts & Crafts) reached far beyond our expectations--wonderfully appointed in old-world charm with the comforts and upgrades for modern appeal (I would love this bathroom in my own home!). If ever traveling to the area I wouldn't choose any other place to enjoy our stay. Thank you!!

If you want to step back in to a time where there is no traffic , no pollution, nice relaxed people everywhere , visit Mc Clouds at the foothills of Mount Shasta, . The Mc CLoud Mercantile Inn is located in this little town . It has all the modern amenities you need with an old time charm. Each room has a personality of its own. There is a diner at the corner,a sweet shop a coffee shop, and a very beautiful and charming art gallery across the street. Oh and if you go in july look for the cherry trees , and sour cherry trees. The cherries were delicious. Darlene and Kevin most accommodating and nice. I would definitely go back.

We''ve stayed here overnight for the last two years on the way to Portland from SFO and didn't want to drive it all in one trip. Lovely little town -- and I mean little -- but a great place to rest your head and get a meal at the one restaurant in town! People are so friendly and the McCloud River Mercantile Inn is a class act. If you want to step back in time for a night, it's absolutely lovely. This Inn is extremely well run, loaded with charm, and super clean and comfy. Highly recommend it :-) Great cafe next door for breakfast and lunch. (breakfast included in your stay). Nearby trails and waterfalls are beautiful. We were there on the 4th and the fireworks show at nearby Lake Siskiyou was truly excellent.

Kevin was also a wonderful host. We will definitely return when we are in that area again.

We stayed in the Arts & Crafts room. The accomodations were very nice, decor was period and well done. The bed was very comfy and the bathroom was HUGE!! The property is a turn of the (20th) century renovation and much of the original building appeared to be utilized. Very quaint. I would recommend this for couples or families as the Innkeepers are very accomodating.

We stayed at the Mercantile 4 1/2 days and it was wonderful. The rooms are very clean and the decor is perfect, the staff and owners are really great. The breadfasts are served in the restrauant downstairs and they are outstanding cooks. Most of all the Veiws of Mt. Shasta and the surrounding forests, lakes and rivers displaly such beauty. I stayed in the Railroad Room two nights in June with my two teens, 15 and 13. It was a huge room overlooking the main entrance with a queen bed and two doubles. The room was immaculate, sparsely appointed with furniture: two nightstands, a small table and a console for a small flatscreen television. The mattresses were firm and comfortable. The bathroom had a soaking tub and separate shower with two sinks. It was stylish and classic looking with white octagon floor tile. It was well appointed with upscale shampoo and conditioner. The only negative was the water pressure was low (it was slow to fill the tub), but adequate for showering. Dining was available downstairs at the White Mountain Cafe. We ate there two mornings, only for breakfast. The food was hearty, traditional, with HUGE portions: large flapjacks (about 8" in diameter!), biscuits and gravy (two large split biscuits smothered in a cup of gravy), humungous omelets (they must use 3 or 4 eggs), and reasonably priced. I only wish they were open past 9pm for dinner (we never made it back to the hotel before then). The hosts were service oriented in offering a room that met our needs (3 beds). They managed to keep us in the same room two consecutive nights (originally the room we booked the first night wasn't available the second). They also left a map with some information on accessing the McCloud River Falls, 5 miles east on Hwy 89. The only suggestion for improvement: keep the wifi is working. There are three wifi hotspots, but they were not working the first night and most of the second night. I was trying to use my laptop over wifi but I had to do it on my iPad over the cellular network instead. Fortunately none of my work depended on the apps or files on my laptop. All in all we had a terrific time at the McCloud River Mercantile Inn and it will be our first choice for any return visit!

Our room was fantastic, especially the HUGE whirlpool tub, the furniture and the wood panelling worthy of the timber barons when the Inn was both the company store and lumber company offices. Even the soaps were truly outstanding and made our skin feel great in the dry climate. Innkeepers Kevin and Darlene were right on top of a minor electrical problem in our room and when we tried to buy lots of the soaps to give as gifts, Kevin and Darlene GAVE us about 6 soaps which they even attractively wrapped to make up for the electrical problem. Now that's REAL SERVICE!

We stayed in the Minnesota room, and were very pleased with the vibe. First off, the air conditioning was up and running when we came in from 90 degree weather, so that was a nice "ahhhhhh" moment. And it smelled really nice - not sprayed air freshener nice, but clean towel nice. And the towels - I appreciate fluffy towels. The room has a big, open feel to it, and the bathroom is giant. If you've been staying in smaller, cramped places, this is a nice change. The food was done interestingly. The two of us got a $20 credit to one of two places right next door. We liked that - get more choices that way. The scramble we had at the diner was full of veggies as we ordered. One of the best parts was we got to bring our dog! I don't know if they have a size limit or you can only use certain rooms. But it worked out great for our 17 pound dog. I appreciated they didn't charge us extra. Overall we were very pleased, and this made a nice ending to our long road trip.

I loved my stay at the McCloud Mercantile Hotel. It is a warm, generous & inviting "home-away-from-home." Kevin, Darlene & staff were very welcoming doing everything asked - & more - to accommodate my requests & needs. They are awesome! & I am familiar with what it takes - because I have a small B&B in Hawaii. I especially loved my room, The Friday George, for its exceptional view of Mt. Shasta.

We stayed in the Shasta Wintu Suite, it was absolutely amazing. The room was incredibly spacious, with a rustic feel but the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. Mood lighting completes the picture and it was one very romantic stay!

We were pleasantly suprised how spacious the room was. Loved the bed, very comfy. Decor very nice and loved the bathroom! We will definitely be back! The only thing that was missing was...meeting the innkeepers! We arrived a little late, 6ish but think it would have been a nice touch. Just think it is more personal as a b&b should be. As I said, we will definitely be back, we enjoyed our stay as well as the privacy! Thank you for making such a neat place for others to enjoy and thanks for your hard work! It definitely shows in the cleanliness of your rooms! The Cafe was very good!

I really liked the room we stayed in and the service was pretty good. Breakfast wasnt served at the inn so they give you $20 credit to spend at the restaurant downstairs. After staying here several times over the past 5 years I can say this place is one of the best out there. It's about as cozy and cool as you can find. Basically American Pickers meets Bed and Breakfast, with old time charm and kindness that you don't get to see everyday. The hosts are absolutely the kindest you could ask for and the store has many cool gifts to take home or share with others... When traveling the north woods of California this is the place to stay for at least a night or two. Thanks Kevin and Darlene, and please keep this good thing going!

My wife and I stayed at the McCloud River Merchantile Inn for the wedding of life long friends daughter. The wedding party and guests took up the entire Inn. We could not have had better hosts, or accomodations. We stayed in the " Hot and Tot" room. It was beautifully appointed, with decorations reflecting the bygone days of the roaring 20's! The room and bathroom were spacious, comfortable, and cozy. We would recommend this Inn for a romantic get away or for a Wedding for 70 or less. The ball room was beautiful, and spacious. The bridal party used a local restaurant owner to cater both the wedding rehersal dinner and the wedding dinner. The fool was Fabulous!!!! Again we loved the weekend stay at the Inn, and will be back!! This is truly a hidden gem in the quaint town of McCloud. Curtis & Sherrie Chipley

The service provided by the owners Darlene and Kevin was fantastic! The rooms were absolutely adorable and very clean. My two girls had a blast in Great Grandma's Attic and thought it was so neat. The common area had a great fireplace that warmed the entire upstairs, which was a welcome relief after a long day of skiing and being out in the cold. And you can't beat the breakfast deal they have worked out with the cafe located in the same building. Amazingly good food with great service! We had a great trip and owe a lot of that to our wonderful hosts and superb accommodations. Thank you to Darlene and Kevin for a wonderful time!!! Heather Characky

The Historic character of this building is completely gorgeous. Most of the rooms are clean and large with equally impressive bathrooms. The owners will go out of their way to accommodate your needs. It is a great place for families requiring rooms with multiple beds. The food and coffee at the restaurant is good too!

The historical character of the rooms was excellent. Having all of the shops and eateries in the same building is great when the weather turns bad outside. My husband only had one night to getaway and enjoy this mountain area, and we could not have been more delighted! Kevin and all the staff at the Mercantile were gracious, more than hospitable and made our stay beyond any expectations we had set! The room (Charles Miller Room) was beautiful, clean and had plenty of space. The pictures are more than accurate for the decor and beauty and if anything only fall short in how nice it was. I would happily stay again and give my best recommendation to any future guests!

We wanted to just get away. We do not ski, fish, hunt, hike, or bird-watch. We do like historical areas, good restaurants, and sites to see. We were not disappointed, and were we ever glad we stayed at the Mercantile Inn. We were welcomed like family and treated like family the entire time we were there. Kevin & his wife & son were the perfect hosts. We do a lot of traveling--domestic as well as international, and the Mercantile was one of our most positive memories. We stayed in the Charles Miller room and it has a terrific view of Mount Shasta. No snow, but who cares, we did not come for the snow. Picture-taking, that's my thing. In my business our reputation is largely based on how many customers call us back for more of our services. The same goes for hotels and motels. In our travels we do have a list of those places which we will never willingly return to for a variety of reasons. With the McCloud Mercantile Inn, though, we are already tentatively PLANNING OUR RETURN VISIT. We highly recommend this excellent destination. A+++++

My girlfriend and I spent three nights at the Mercantile Inn for Christmas 2011. We stayed in the Charles Miller room which may be the best room in the house although we didn't see them all to compare. With a jacuzzi tub and our own fireplace it was the perfect place to spend the holidays. The owner and his family were most gracious hosts -- very friendly and treated us like we were part of the family. Our rate included $20 credit at the White Mountain Cafe downstairs and breakfast there every day was superb. Right in the middle of the McCloud historic downtown was a great place to spend an old-fashioned, quaint and very quiet Christmas. Our view of Mt. Shasta from our room was an added bonus. Anything we needed we just asked for and it was supplied immediately. There's also a very nice "common area" that provides a little "kitchen" for all to use -- silverware, wine glasses, coffee pot, bottle openers, etc. They even had a plate of freshly made Christmas cookies there for anyone to enjoy. Some other guests brought along their dog. My only complaint was that the linens and towels were laundered using very fragrant fabric softener to which I am extremely allergic. Personally I don't think any hotel should subject its customers to these chemicals and would advise them to switch to fragrance-free laundry products. Everything about the place takes you back in time so it seemed incongruous to have this odor everywhere. But all I did was mention it to Kevin, the manager, and he immediately had all our towels and lines re-laundered without these products and I was fine the rest of our stay. All in all, a very merry Christmas.

My fiance and I decided to start a new tradition together this year and planned a Christmas get away. Neither of us had ever been to the Mt. Shasta area and we wanted a white Christmas. After looking a a bunch of reviews and inns online, we decided on the McCloud Mercantile Hotel. It had everything we could have asked for - beautifully appointed room with period decor, fireplace, romantic slipper tub, gorgeous bathroom with a decadent double headed shower and they even welcomed our dog to join us. That wasn't the end of it though. The real charm of this place is the Mathis family, the proprietors. Each morning at breakfast in their attached diner, Lonnie Mathis, the patriarch of the family, worked the room with his easy going charm and warm smiles. He really made us feel welcome and brought a smile to the faces of all around. His charm is apparently hereditary, because it passed to his son Kevin who runs the inn. Kevin was really sweet and accommodating. He went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed, including hand dipped strawberries and sparkling cider in our room upon our late check-in. The final little piece of heaven came in the form of an impromptu Christmas feast the family put together for all of their guests, a few locals and extended family. I had to shake my head at one point during dinner because the whole thing seemed like a scene out of a very nostalgic Hallmark movie. Needless to say, Dave and I are already planning our trip back there next Christmas and even reserved the same room already. This time we're planning on bringing some of our family with us and pitching in to the Mathis family's new tradition of Christmas dinner with their guests. It was a perfect stay!

On our recent visit to McCloud River Mercantile Inn, my sister and I were very impressed with our room and the warm welcome we received from Kevin and Darlene. It was during the week and though the town was quiet, they made sure their guests enjoyed their stay with an evening of wine and cheese tasting - even joining us and telling us some of the history of McCloud. We can't wait to return!

The Mathias Family has turned the old Mercantile building into a lovely, quaint, relaxing getaway... complete with cafe, coffee shop, sweet shoppe, and retail shop. There were even free ballroom dance classes the night we were there! Darlene and Kevin have done a gorgeous job on the rooms and decor - elegant, unique, and comfortable! Everyone we met in McCloud was out-of-their-way friendly. We enjoyed ourselves so much, we wished we could have stayed longer: two nights was not enough! There is a common area with a wood burning stove, refrigerator, stemware, microwave, and free snacks! And none of this even mentions the famous Mt Shasta... which sits directly and majestically above town! We are definitely going to be back.

This was beautiful and perfect for a night away. The owners were accommodating and friendly, upgrading our room at their own insistence that the music from the ballroom might be too much for the room we had originally chosen. We also had the benefit of free ballroom dance lessons! This place was simply gorgeous and wonderful with it's unique designs, claw foot tub, and fireplaces. I loved every minute of our stay, didn't want to leave, and can't wait to go back!

My boyfriend and I randomly stopped in McCloud last year while driving from LA to Portland and stumbled upon this gem of a town and B&B. The rooms are all so cozy and you can tell every single detail has been thought out with love and care. It is a place where you just want to keep coming back to stay at the different rooms as they all have their own name and are decorated differently. The owners are a charming family that give the place the home-like setting. We planned our trip this year driving from Portland to San Francisco, making sure to leave time for a stay at the Mercantile. We look forward to making it a yearly tradition!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Friday George room. The Inn was quiet, comfortable, and clean. The room had charming period touches and a stunning view of Mt. Shasta out of the bedroom window. Our hosts were friendly and very accomodating, going out of their way to give us information about local points of interest. We look forward to our next visit.

This is the Four Seasons of B&B's. Our family stayed in 3 rooms (GG's Attic, Minnesota and Hot and Tot) and all were beautiful, clean and all renovated to perfection. The staff let us see their top of the line rooms which were magnificent! The owners and staff are great and the breakfast in the cafe is better than anything we have at home in the SF Bay area! We will definitely stay here again.

We had to plan our stay at the very last minute, under very stressful cercumstances. The owners made the entire process very easy and they were very understanding and accomodating. We were in the railroad room. Our room was very roomy and incredably clean. It was not luxurious (but we did not want fufu fancy), but it was comfortable (They have rooms that are fancier and more cozy). It did not have a sitting area, but when we asked about having a loveseat or something they immediately brought a couch in for us. We were impressed and grateful. The bed was comfortable but the room was a little warm so it made falling asleep a little difficult (we could not find a way to adjust the temp. ourselves. There was no office or place you could go to talk to someone, but you could get ahold of the owners by phone (we did not want to bother them). Overall we had a wonderful time and felt spoiled. The couples massage, done in our room, was amazing! We thought the stay was a little overpriced, but our overall experience was so great, we did not mind. Whenever we want or need a get-away, this will be the first place we will choose to go. FYI-there are some absolutely beautiful waterfalls nearby. The falls made for a great picnic and day trip for us.

My family has been staying at the McCloud River Mercantile with Darlene and Kevin for a number of years and the same warmth and hospitality that we experienced on our first visit continues. The Inn is perfectly located to take advantage of the greater Mt. Shasta area's diverse recreational activities. The rooms are spectacular and the massive building's architecture is a historic treasure. Breakfast is hearty and delicious and everyone associated with the establishment treats you like family, which no doubt emanates from Darlene and Kevin's joy of welcoming their guest into their little slice of heaven!

McCloud is a charming little town, and the McCloud River Mercantile is one of its excellent B&Bs. The breakfast is handled via a voucher at a restaurant contained in the same rambling, historical building; we liked that approach since it includes the element of choice. The room we had (and the ones we peeked into) were spotless and very nicely equipped. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We'd certainly return.

Love staying in Historical Accommodations and this is truly a wonderful reflection of an era from the past. The rooms have been tastefully furnished and have been fully upgraded to have all the modern conveniences. The owners have pride in the work that they have done, and are very pleasant to talk too. We would definitely stay their again when traveling in that area.

The hotel is beautifully restored and every room is unique. The included breakfast in the restaurant downstairs is more than generous, and the upstairs sitting room also has coffee and other little treats. The rooms are a bit on the pricey side, especially given that the town itself, though pretty, has very little going on. On a Tuesday evening we had to drive to Mt Shasta to find a restaurant open for dinner! Still, I'm glad we stayed here.
4,4 sur août 06, 2011
What a wonderful stay we had! Kevin made it easy for me to use a treasured gift certificate and book a suite that would be a lovely gift for my sweetheart as this was a very special vacation for us. Kevin and Darlene have put in a lot of hard work into remodeling and honoring this vintage building so that it reflects its history, but offers contemporary conveniences. We loved having breakfast at the fountain cafe, with staff offering the same warm hospitality and excellent service.

Our stay at the McCloud River Mercantile Inn was a terrific experience. The owners are amazingly friendly and run a very special Inn located in a beautiful setting. We were on our last night of a 10 day road trip and this was the perfect ending. Got checked in early and went hiking along the McCloud River to see the water falls.....spectacular. There is the Lodge Restaurant within walking distance and the food was quite good with a full bar and a decent small wine list. Very peaceful and quiet. And, you get a $20.00 credit for the cafe next to the Merc and it was by far the best breakfast we have had in a long time. Great quality and huge portions.

Without a doubt, the McCloud Mercantile Inn is the cleanest, roomiest and one of the most charming bed and breakfast inns we have ever experienced. The owners are pleasant, helpful and friendly, and the room was spotless. Because it is a converted mercantile store, our Railroad Room was huge. We were traveling with our adult son, and there was more than enough room for everyone. The soaker tub in the large, double sinked bathroom was a special treat. Even the linens and towels were a surprise. I don't know what laundry detergent or additive was used, but they smelled fantastic, in addition to being soft and oversized. Of course adding to the experience was the beauty of the setting. Kevin, the innkeeper, had suggested that we explore the local McCloud River Falls. Not terrible crowded and absolutely spectacular. High marks all around. We hope to return soon.

Let me first clarify my review selections. The fact that I selected "Met my expectations" does not mean they did not do a great job with this property. I would highly recommend it to anyone. I had expected the level of service and they delivered. I think that speaks well of their ability to have a website that clearly communicates what they offer and the staff and management backing up what we see online. Great job!

McCloud is a mountain town with a wonderful view of Mt. Shasta. Several choices of lodging. The rooms at the Mercantile were unique, clean and relatively well valued. The rooms at the end of the north end of the lodge (only two) have the best views of Mt. Shasta. We were in McCloud on 7/5 and there was no place open for dinner in the entire town, but Mt. Shasta is only 15 minutes away. Apparently there is usually a dinner option ... breakfast was a win downstairs with a $20 credit from the lodge. Also a couple stores to enjoy downstairs. Overall, a cool place to relax, just don't expect much after dark unless you go to Mt. Shasta City for dinner or bring a book or your baby ...

I stayed at the inn for 2 nights in June. The customer service is outstanding - it is run by a lovely couple who are friendly and always available for a question. We felt very welcome in the town. The rooms are beautifully decorated, each with it's own character and charm. The rooms were spotless and fantastic soaps and lotions are supplied. You get a $20 credit to use at a restaurant of your choosing (out of 2 in the mercantile). The food was excellent and the portions are big enough for 2 so $20 goes a long way! When we climb Mt. Shasta in the future, we will definitely stay at the inn again.

I had two different rooms during my stay. The first night was Charles Miller, and it is absolutely awesome with a beautiful view of Mt. Shasta from four big windows and a large bedroom with comfy bed and very very nice bathroom with separate rooms for the Jacuzzi/sinks and the shower/toilet. Really well done. Only downside of this room is that the restaurant below turned on their ventilation fan at 6am on Sunday morning. This was minor compared to the view, however, it did wake me up, which was good, because there was much to see and do that morning. The second night I stayed in Friday George which is next door and less expensive. It also has a nice view of the mountain out of its' one window. The room is small and dark with a comfy queen bed, and the price is right! The bathroom has a miniature bathtub/shower in a nice large space. I had a hard time navigating the shower head when I did not want to get my hair wet, and the shower curtain rack is not stable to hold a person if you need something to balance yourself. The ventilation fan was turned on at 7:30am on Monday morning, and that was nice, because it was right next to my window! Just be aware of this. I was able to see two other rooms, and they were huge and could accommodate a family of four. A lot of thought was put into this inn, and the decor is lovely!!

My sister and I visited the area for the first time and we were late arriving. The innkeeper Darlene called me to check in with me and told me not to worry. She gave us advice about where to have some dinner and when we arrived at the hotel around 8:00 PM, she was there to greet us. In the room was sparkling cider and chocolates, a nice touch after a long drive. The room was warm and welcoming, clean and inviting. The jacuzzi tub was a welcome relief after an 8 hour drive. From the time that we arrived till the time we left, we were embraced by the Innkeepers. They provided us with a map and suggestions for exploring the area and they provided us with information about the history of McCloud. We met some of the other guests as well who felt just as welcomed. The Mathis Family are a true joy to be around and I will recommend this hotel to all my friends and family. Keep up the good work, Kevin and Darlene, we will be back! Annie and Jackie, the Dutch sisters!

I can't say enough about how neat this place is. The rooms are amazing. We splurged for the suite and were not disappointed. Two things that could have been different: 1) We would have appreciated knowing which restaurants were closed when we made the reservation. The Lodge & Cafe were both closed for dinner and we didn't want to drive to the nearest town, so we grabbed snacks and ate in our suite. 2) Though I think I am in the minority, I have an allergy to fragrances and our room smelled like lavender: in the sheets & towels and the bath products. Most people would love this added touch, but for me, it was a struggle.

While everything was fine during our stay at McCloud Mercantile, but nothing compares with the BEAR WE SAW while traveling the back roads around McCloud. I hope you can understand why this was the highlight!

Found the McCloud River Mercantile Inn on the internet, read the reviews and read the website in detail. Decided it would be a great place to discover, away from the "beaten path" of I-5. We were immediately pleased with how quiet the town and the Inn are. Our room was beautiful. All the work Darlene and Kevin have done in refurbishing the inn is amazing. We stayed in the Friday George room. It was beautiful and roomy. We did feel we could have used another easy chair to relax in. The $20.00 credit for breakfast was unbelievable. We found the town, its people and the Inn so charming.

This is a classic big old wood building with squeaky floors. Wonderfully restored to exqusite granduer. The rooms are large and very well appointed. Your artisan soap bar is nearly thick as a brick. I'm mostly a cheapo motel person and this was truly stunning. McCloud is close to the Shasta Ski Park. A terrific place for a weekend getaway. You have got to stay at the Merc.

The Mercantile Inn was wonderful to stay at, especially in the snow! I toured three of the rooms and each had special touches, design, and character. The owners have done an amazing job remodeling this old building. I was amazed by how big it is and everything going on there (shops, cafe, ballroom dancing). You can't beat the $20 credit at the cafe for breakfast either, we had excellent service and good food. I stayed in the Friday George room and it was very cute/cabin-like and comfortable but there were some finishing details about the room that are not complete yet. Other than that, we enjoyed using the common area at night with the wood stove and also enjoyed meeting the locals. We will definitely be back!

My Dad was born here (May of 1922) and until this visit I had not been back since the sidewalks were made of wood (sometime in the 50's)! I was very excited to bring my husband to McCloud for his first visit and wanted our accommodations to be very special. I could remember trotting down the streets of McCloud as a kid and seeing the Mercantile. Returning to the Merc seemed a natural and it was perfect. We loved our room - it was impeccably clean and beautifully representative of the era. We loved meeting our proprietor Lonnie and he made sure that the wood burning stove in the common area was roaring and that we knew about everything that was available to us. We had a wonderful stay and had a really great time with him and some new friends that we will never forget. Thank you to all for a fabulous and special moment in time!!

my wife and i had the opportunity to get away for a night without the kids this past valentines day and neither of us had been to a bed n breakfast so i did some research online and found the mercantile and enjoyed the pictures and reviews of the rooms. we stayed in the founders suite which has a great view, spacious layout and a large claw foot tub in the main room (very romantic and fun). we arrived and felt welcomed from the moment we got there. the staff was more then friendly offering to help in any way to make our stay ideal. we spent most of the night near the fire they kept stoked for us working on a puzzle and enjoying some relaxing time. the common areas were fun and comfortable and we felt free to be ourselves and relax. we awoke to snow covering everything which was a gloriously beautiful site but also made me wish i had brought the 4 wheel drive and not the car. as the snow piled on, kevin (from the mercantile) helped me sort out how to put the chains on my tires (climbing on the cold, snow-covered ground and everything) and just overall went far and about anything i expected for the proprietor of the establishment to be doing. the breakfast was marvelous and the overall experience was great. we made it home safe and sound and i can't wait for you to go enjoy the mercantile, it's stellar service and lovely amenities.

McCloud is the best kept secret. Close to Mt. Shasta and other beautiful areas, it is small and quiet and beautiful. The Mercantile Hotel is spacious, creatively decorated in old west country decor with all the modern comforts. The included-in-the-price breakfast is delicious and the hotel gift shop has lots of clothes and upscale souvenirs to choose from. We loved the gift shop directly across the street which had a wide array of paintings, ceramic pieces, cards, scarfs, blankets, birdhouses and quality original art work of all kinds. For souvenir hunters, another gift shop down the street offers that. We loved it there and we're going back!

I first came across the McCloud River Mercantile Inn in May 2009. I was traveling up to Mount Shasta for an unplanned getaway, and completely overlooked the fact that it was Memorial Day weekend. I had to look outside of Mt. Shasta and came across the Mercantile in McCLoud. I hadn't been to McCloud for at least 15 years, but I remembered swimming at the local waterfalls, and decided to check in out. McCloud is pristine and super quiet with incredible mountain views. I didn't realize that Mt. Shasta was busy in comparison! And the Mercantile is the most incredible place to stay. The owners have rebuilt the building one room at a time over the last several years, and not only did they preserve the building and maintain it's original character, they have created unique and creative rooms for every taste. There are all different sizes and shapes, with very different styles including unique reproduction bathroom fixtures, hardwood floors and original details. They have a general store, a candy shop (which my daughter had to visit every day), and breakfast included at the cafe, or the restaurant downstairs. Kevin and Darlene gave us excellent suggestions for exploring the area, and we went to 3 different swimming locations in the 4 days we were there. This is hands down the nicest B and B I have visited in many years. This is far from the typical B and B with floral patterns and hokey furniture. If you are looking for something with real character and a modern update, this is the place for you. We loved it!

From the moment we walked into the Mercantile in McCloud, the Mathis family had us laughing and talking and wanting to just hang out at their place. They gave us rooms at great rates and, after a lovely tour, we fell further in love and settled in. We got a chance to talk with all the family, visiting out on the porch in the evening and and then again in the morning. We made instant friends and promised to return and stay longer. Rooms perfectly appointed and prepared. Mt. Shasta was visible right outside our window. The bed was as good as home and we slept like babies. Perhaps the best accomodations we've ever had...the proprietors and facility combined. McCloud is a lovely town with the friendliest people. We will return, and soon we hope!

Participated in a quilting retreat at this lovely hotel. Each room has its own decor reflecting McCloud's bygone times but the infrastructure is very modern (e.g., great water pressure, wi-fi, cell service). The owners go out of their way to make the stay pleasurable. I had a great time and hope to visit this quaint hotel again.

If you want to relax, eat yummy food, enjoy the view, and be in peace and quiet, McCloud is the place to go. They will take care of you with such a personal touch! This is not a typical B&B, the whole Mercantile has a wonderful quaint feel, but can be so romantic and private as well. It's a must stay, we were absolutely in love with it!

We stayed in the small room and it was just right for us with a view of Mt. Shasta from the window. The inn keepers were friendly and helpful. We would stay there again.
