Pros: +Comfortable room +Jacuzzi tub +Away from the city +5 mins away from a great beach +Amazing price for staying in the bay area Neutral Bigger than your standard B&B, similar to a small hotel Food was more like a hotel breakfast than typical B&B breakfast Cons: -Away from the city Overall my experience with this B&B was great. Half moon bay is a small/quite community about an hour away from the city. Surrounded by the ocean and trees, it's very peaceful, especially compared to other parts of the bay area. Our room was nice, the bed was comfortable and it included a jacuzzi tub (no shower though). The food was mostly like a hotel breakfast, except for some homemade quiche that was quite tasty. There are more guests than a typical B&B but we knew that going in. If you're willing to sacrifice ~2 hours a day in travel to the city then this B&B is a great choice. I'll certainly be staying here the next time I'm in the bay.

The room was beautiful. We had the deluxe suite. It took some time to figure out the light, fan, and fireplace switches. It seemed like everything was opposite where we expected it to be... but we figured it out. Service was great and we met some very interesting people during breakfast. Overall, we had a great experience there and I would definitely consider it again. My biggest gripe was the hot water and water pressure. We had this nice jacuzzi tub but it took forever to get the water hot and the pressure was so low that it would take too long to fill the tub.

Delightful location in the heart of downtown HMB. the only thing better would be to be right on the beach, but it's not a bad walk. Room was spacious, clean, simple, great price. Breakfast is nice, other guests are friendly. I would stay again. Other reviews note that the rooms are hot... leave the bathroom fan on to pull some air in and it's not too bad.

More like a small motel than a B&B, that being said it is a great value , close to shopping and dining , and the breakfast was fantastic.

PROS: beautiful house, very nice people, comfortable and quiet room, delicious breakfast CONS: hard bed and hot -- no fan or air conditioning. I would stay there again and bring my own fan.

My husband & I stayed here for our anniversary. Checking in & on our last day customer service from the staff was great. We checked in late the room was very hot & stuff. We thought that just opening the windows would be fine. So that is what we did before going out for dinner. Came back still hot & stuff. (Keeping in mind that it was unseasonable warm. Also we were inside the original house.) The next day we asked for a fan to be put in the room. (This is when the poor customer service started). The lady working that day did not even look at us while speaking with us & came across more like we were a bother being there. When we came back that night there was no fan & the hand soap we were using the day before was gone without a replacement. We had to ask for both. The new woman that was working made it sound like there was no fans on the property at all, but finally found one for us. The only reason I did not give a lower star on the Service is because the ladies that helped us check in, check out & serviced us breakfast on the day we checked out were wonderful. We don't think they should be punished for two other bad employees.

We had a great time, we just came for one night to celebrate our 33rd wedding anniversary, but it was memorable. Yummy breakfast in the morning!

We've stayed here numerous times, and this stay we were not in the main house, but in the annex. Our room was huge, but very plain. In comparison to the main house, there was not much character, and there were a few quirks also. The toilet didn't function very well, and there was a leak in the shower...drip, drip, drip.... I will return, but will request to be in the main house.

This establishment has a great location, our room was wonderful and the main house (there is a modern wing where the rooms are more than adequate and not at all modern hotel sterile, but not "standard" Victorian, etc B&B style) is absolutely charming. The hostess is a hoot and Half Moon Bay is a great weekend getaway. You do need to appreciate coastal cool, fog and clouds.

First off the cost was very good so I knew not to expect too much. The house itself is very nice and if you get to stay there it's probably lovely. If you stay in one of the detached rooms it's pretty much like any 2 star hotel but bigger and very sparse. Our room had two couches a wrought iron bed with two side tables. There were three pictures on one wall and the rest was bare white. The blinds looked like they'd taken a beating but the bathroom was a good size and very clean. There was just this huge empty space on the non-bed half of the room. I asked my husband why he thought there was so much room - he said, "Must be for square dancing". Anyway, our room was very warm and stuffy but the heat was not on. We opened the windows and it cooled down nicely, but as soon as we closed the windows it got all hot and stuffy again. Very hard to sleep, plus the bed wasn't terribly comfortable. In the morning we went to breakfast and there was quite a nice spread of fruit, granola, chocolate chip banana bread, bagels and cream cheese but I saw no quiche that everyone always talks about. I asked the girl behind the counter if this was all of it and she said, "Yes." I said something about the quiche and then she said, "I'll get you some. Spinach or ham?" Uh, so if I didn't ask, I don't think we would have gotten any. It was good and everything I had tasted homemade so I was satisfied. Because Zaballa House is right on Main Street it's a nice way to start the morning with a walk up and down the street and stop in all the little shops. Very cute little town feeling. I think for the price it was acceptable, but if you're looking for really special and you can't get into the actual house, look elsewhere.
