We were greeted warmly by Donna the evening we arrived and given a tour of the house. The Garden View Suite was well decorated, but the bed was pretty firm for my personal taste. We met Bob in the morning when it was time for breakfast. The green chili and white cheddar souffle served for breakfast was outstanding.

This was our 7-8th visit to the Cornelius Daly Inn. The common areas are comfortable and inviting as are the individual rooms. Our favorite is the Victorian Rose Room. It is a great place to stay--beautiful home with friendly hosts. Donna's breakfasts are NOT to be missed. My husband got in at 2:30 a.m. When I asked him if he wanted to get up for an 8:30 a.m. breakfast, he said, "YES. I'm not going to miss one of Donna's breakfasts." We will return!!!

We were very impressed with our stay at the Daly Inn. The Home was a beautiful old mansion. The hospitality was great and the breakfasts were among the best I've had. My seven year old daughter remarked that it was one of the best places she had ever stayed.

Everything was as advertised. That is quite an amazing home. Breakfast was outstanding and the owner was also an excellent tour guide of the house. Only disappointment was the check in time. I'm sure it was stated as 4:00 PM, but we would have preferred something a little earlier. All in all, a very pleasant experience.

We were in the Victorian Rose Suite. It is elaborately furnished, yet completely functional. Breakfast included a variation on eggs Benedict: poached egg and sausage over polenta with fresh fruit and scones. Our host was soft spoken and quite warm. Parking behind the inn was convenient. We were a bit surprised by the amount of street noise. It certainly wasn't loud enough to wake one, but was noticeable during quite moments in the evening. My partner and I greatly enjoyed this inn and would definitely return. One quirk to the room: the light switch plates are covered with the wallpaper to match. However, the push-button switches blend in so well that it took us several minutes to find the light switch for the bedroom.

My wife and I spent one night at this B&B on our way to visit friends in Oregon. Everything about the stay met or exceeded our expectations, especially the breakfast, which was delicious. The hosts were friendly and helpful, but what we enjoyed the most were the other guests. One young couple from Germany and a middle-aged couple from New Zealand. We talked for two hours! Our room was spacious, well maintained and clean, and the facility in general was well appointed with legitimate antiques. I'd happily stay at the Cornelius Daly Inn again.

Charming B&B, kids had fun and breakfast was amazing every morning! Would stay here again if in the area and recommend to anyone.

My wife, daughter and I stayed in the Garden View Room for one night in July 2013, we were met by Bob the Inn Keeper and he showed us around the B&B which is an interesting old home. The place is impeccably kept. My daughter slept on a roll-a-way bed in our sitting room and we had a queen bed that was very firm but comfortable. The best thing about the stay, as expected, was the exceptional breakfast and it did not disappoint. We also had a great visit with the other guests. D. Francois

This was our first experience with a bed and breakfast and we were very impressed with our room and the fantastic breakfasts the two nights we were there. Our experience was so positive that we think that we will be trying more bed and breakfasts in the future.

Me and my wife spent two nights here. It was terrific! We stayed in the Rose room. It was very nice, as was the whole house. Well kept, quiet and very comfortable. The breakfast that was served in the mornings was great and well prepared. We loved our stay here and if were ever in the area again we probably will stay here again.

the place had a museum like quality to it. Well preserved, but not alive. perhaps it was becasue we were the only guests there or perhaps it was becasue Euraka was less than overwhelming.

What a disappointment that such a beautiful home had every little detail thought of except the most important thing -- the demeanor of the innkeepers. The reserve on our arrival was disappointing; but the overt coldness the next morning (particularly by the wife/breakfast chef) was something my husband and I had never encountered in a B&B. So, all in all, I would caution inn seekers to consider why they select one B&B over another. Yes, for us, the ambiance is always critical; but the nature of the inn keepers will make or break the experience. In this case, the experience was not just broken -- it was shattered -- by the unwelcoming attitude on the part of the owners, which during breakfast, extended to everyone at the otherwise elegant dining room table. So, would we recommend this B&B? Unequivocally not. What a shame.

Our room was about what we expected, nice and clean. Everything was a bit creaky, which should be expected in a home this old. The breakfast really stood out. It was absolutely delicious and filling. I would return for the breakfast alone.

Everything was very nice. My coworkers and I had a long work day before arriving and called to let the innkeeper know we were showing up late. He made arrangements for us to get our keys. Very easy to work with and a very nice stay.

Rooms and furnishings were exceptional! Very clean an polished. Traffic noise from all directions a bit loud, but that's what you get in the city I guess. Lingering cooking smells were noticeable upon entry but got used to them. Gardens were very lovely too. I could picture a small wedding or other reception taking place there. Good neighborhood bistro located near by too with excellent food. Nice change from the chain hotels we've been staying at in southern CA and Napa area.

We've stayed at the Cornelius Daly Inn a number of times over the past 3 years. The owners Donna & Bob Gafford are most hospitable, and Donna serves delicious breakfasts. We've never had the same breakfast twice over the past 3 years. The Victorian Rose Suite is beautiful and comfortable. The entire house has been restored to its historical period. Don't miss the Christmas ballroom on the 3rd floor. As long as we have reason to visit Eureka, California, we will return to the Cornelius Daly Inn.

The Cornelius Daly Inn is a wonderful victorian home, lovingly restored with a polished finesse. excellent hosts, and the institution of sit down breakfast being served at 8:30 in the morning allows you to meet other guests on their way through Eureka. Loved The wine and cheese served in the afternoon. it is easy to reach the redwood tall tree grove from this place. Highly recommanded. Helmut & Brigitte, Vienna Austria

The Cornelius Daly Inn is a beautifully and authentically furnished home that is close to the downtown Eureka restaurants and shops. The street is mostly quiet with some light traffic noise at the typical morning rush hour time (we were out and about in the evening). The staff was attentive and considerate and very helpful with information on places to see. We went to see the Wedding Rock at Patrick's Point State Park - a wonderful excursion that we would have missed without the help from our hosts. They also gave us great tips on restaurants and served wonderful breakfasts as well. Highly recommended. Mike & Deb from SCV

the rooms are beautiful and bristling with antiques. of course the place is clean -- jeez! our mattress (in The Guest Room) was extremely firm, if you like that sort of thing. Bob was oddly grumpy -- hopefully he was just having a bad day. breakfast service, mostly by Donna, was far more pleasant and the food was good. we got a good deal on a very elegant room.

We were driving up the coast of California and we decided to stay overnight in Eureka. We spotted a quaint Victorian called Daly Inn and stopped to see if they could accommodate us – without a reservation. The Garden Suite was available and after seeing it we took it immediately. After some wine and pleasant talk we went to our room. We were met by a well decorated three room suite overlooking the garden. How quaint: a room’s name that really means something. The suite had every amenity that one would like to find in a B & B. The next morning, during a marvelous breakfast, prepared by hostess Donna Gafford and served by co-owner Bob Gafford, we discussed the availability of things to do locally. After hearing about the guided wine tour, we opted for an additional day’s stay so we could visit three local wineries. The trip was to an appellation that we’d never heard of before – Willow Creek. It is situated in The Trinity Alps. The appellation was established in 1947 but has remained untouched by the hoards. The trip was well worth the time and cost. At each winery, we were met by the owner/winemaker. Donna had packed a great lunch for us and the winemaker and his wife, which we enjoyed at the second winery. The three wineries, in order of visit were: Sentinel Winery; Winette Vineyards and Dogwood Estate Winery. All three had full offerings of varietals and blends. At Sentinel and Dogwood we bought their reds and at Winette we bought some whites. The Daly Inn is a Victorian that is over one hundred years old, but is in excellent shape. The décor is very well done and is the handy work of Donna Gafford. Donna and Bob are very gracious hosts that are very helpful with explaining the local sights and offering their knowledge of local restaurants. They also own and operate the Iris Inn across the street. We were given a tour of that operation which is also beautifully decorated.

We live in the Willamette Valley of Oregon, about 6.5 hours by car from Eureka. Though we are happy with Oregon, we like to get away from time to time. The Cornelius Daly Inn, booked for a weekend in late January, 2009, turned out to be the right place for us. The website was attractive, but the main house, and the auxiliary house (a fine place in its own right) across the street, exceeded our expectations. Eureka is a good destination, with the redwoods, the rugged coastline and the finer tastes that Bay Area money can bring (quirky bookstores with unusual books, good restaurants), available in a leisurely and uncrowded setting. Our hosts, Donna and Bob, gave us attentive care without impinging on our romantic getaway - complete with a fine suite and fireplace. We would recommend the Cornelius Daly Inn to anyone who appreciates the timber-era understated elegance of the Pacific Northwest.
