Who could possibly resist the mellow summer afternoons or the crystal clear winter skies over Mt. Lassen? The area offers a diverse selection of recreational activities. Near the Inn are opportunities for hiking, golfing, boating, water-skiing and bike riding. You will also view multitudes of wildlife and engage in possibly the best fly-fishing in California. During the winter the Inn offers immediate access to cross-country skiing, with downhill skiing and snowmobiling nearby. December is a favorite time for Christmas tree cutting. In a "yet to be discovered" area, the Bidwell House is located on the southeastern slope of Mt. Lassen. Chester and its surrounding area are rich in the history of gold-mining, ranching and logging. The Inn provides a great resting spot between the great valley of California and points east. The Inn is perfect for hideaway seekers, honeymooners, business travelers, weddings, reunions and corporate retreats.

We truly loved our stay - the rooms were immaculate, well decorated and the views, birds, flowers and plants were so fun to see. It was most relaxing, and we really enjoy being able to go into the living room or sun room in the evening for some games, reading, movies or just plain relaxing, with a glass of sherry if we wish! All in all, a beautiful place and wonderful place to stay.

We stayed at the Bidwell House for two nights while visiting the Lassen Volcanic Park. It is a wonderful retreat and the hosts are very thoughtful in meeting their guests' needs. The breakfasts are out of this world!

Philip and Eva run a beautiful bed and breakfast in the little town of Chester, CA. My husband and I make an annual trip up to Lake Almanor and discovered the Bidwell House last year. The house is gorgeous. The property and landscaping are beautiful. The breakfasts that Eva cooks herself are wonderful and will keep you full and powered up until at least lunch time (they are also very accommodating to any dietary preferences/needs you have). You are welcomed into this home and treated as if you live there, too. There are many spots to just sit and relax - a sun room, the living room (with fireplace and sherry in the evening), a porch, a back patio, and a gazebo. There's a guest refrigerator so you can store your own food, and you are also welcome to make coffee, tea, or hot chocolate in their kitchen. If you are planning a trip up to the Lake Almanor area, don't hesitate to stay at the Bidwell House!

Comfortable, peaceful B&B with very helpful staff. Nice, spacious rooms. Enjoyed the homey touches of being invited to make my own tea in the kitchen and the use of a guest fridge. Would have been grateful for some sparkling water or other non-sugary, non-alcoholic drinks in the honor bar and a small bottle of conditioner in the shower. We had a wonderful, relaxing weekend. Thanks so much!

There are more than a dozen rooms located behind the main house, each decorated in their own charming way. The main house is gorgeous and the grounds are breathtaking. Picture ready and perfect with porch swings and all. Worth the drive. The lake is everything you'd expect and more and there are views from every room.
