Nice and clean.

Jazz Fest 2014

We had a really wonderful stay at the Knickerbocker! The staff, the rooms and the food were just what we needed to feel relaxed and comfortable. I would definitely recommend the Knickerbocker Mansion for a great little getaway!

Perfect little getaway

4,4 sur juillet 02, 2014

My wife and I stayed here recently for our 1yr Anniversary, and we're very pleased. We wanted a relaxing getaway from LA, and stumbled upon the Knickerbocker by chance; we will definitely be back. The new owners were so friendly, always asking if there's anything else we needed. Furthermore, the breakfast in the morning was amazing. The only downside was that it was hot and no air conditioning, but it's an old house, so I don't think you can reasonable expect to get air conditioning; and, to be fair, they have ceiling fans and you can open the windows. We loved this place, and would recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing weekend and a place within walking distance to the village.

Great Food

We had a fabulous stay at the Knickerbocker Mansion. The new owners are wonderful and very welcoming. The food was delicious. The rooms were clean and the beds were very comfy. The mansion is walking distance from the village. We will definitely stay at the mansion again. Thank you for a fabulous getaway!

Coming back real soon.

5 sur juin 23, 2014

My husband and I recently stayed at the Mansion for our Anniversary. We were SO elated to find new owners that were absolutely wonderful in every way. They went out of there way to accommodate me after a recent mouth surgery and were some of the friendliest people I've come across in a long time. True Southern hospitality, combined with a beautiful property and an absolutely amazing chef. Oh yeah, can't wait to return.

Great location and great hospitality

Overall great place to stay!

My wife and I went for our Ten year anniversary. Everything was neat, clean, and comfortable! Stan was a great host with some great stories!

Mansion? Guess again!

2,8 sur mars 19, 2014

If you're expecting Hearst Castle you're in for a rude awakening. This is a "rustic" log cabin which is code for run down. The place is decorated with circa 1920's antiques but not the kind you would seek out at a high end antique store, more along the line you would see at a 1920 Goodwill store. The room had no heat other than a wood stove that would not stay lit. It's a 2 story walk up to the room with no help offered for carrying my luggage. We were literally the only guests at the place for the weekend. That being said we had a pleasant time and a comfortable bed. We paid much more than most other lodging in big bear. After booking the trip we found out there was a half price special being run. Unfortunately they were not inclined to give us the discount! Overall it was a pleasant but overpriced experience, and not a mansion in the conventional sense. The included breakfast was quite tasty.

Knickerbocker for a snowy weekend.

4,0 sur mars 05, 2014

quiet small cozy. My husband thought it was lovely and would love to come back again on a much warmer weekend so that we can become one more with our surroundings.

Love the B and B as the destination itself!

4,4 sur mars 05, 2014

Our second time there and it won't be the last. Loved our cedar room this time and the food was as wonderful as before. Afternoon scones were delicious! Loved just hanging out in the lodge. They aim to please here!

Loved it

3,4 sur mars 05, 2014

This place was super comfortable and the people were really nice. Breakfast was delicious. The one con I could think of was that our neighbors were super loud even though they request for you to be considerate of noise after 9:00pm. Bring ear plugs. I will definitely be back again.

Great deal

4,8 sur mars 04, 2014

I would definitely return. Great value and great friendly service. Location is central and convenient. The room was great and everything was clean and neat. Very thoughtful and professional hosts.

Good location. Rooms were cute but a little small.

5 sur février 27, 2014

It was the most amazing room, service, environment that me and my boyfriend had ever encountered. We are definitely going back really soon! This is A MUST stay !!!

Great experience! Not worth the price.

4,0 sur février 26, 2014

Great location! Fantastic food!! Tiny rooms and uncomfortable bed. Great place to stay if you don't plan on being in the rooms much. Close to downtown, and great restaurants.

Nice place, strict rules

3,0 sur février 26, 2014

I bought a deal on Living Social and then read the reviews--which are chalk full of run-ins with the current proprietors. Although our stay went smoothly, I could see problems given the strict sets of rules guests are greeted with upon arrival from a short window for the free breakfast to keys to "quiet hours." If you plan to be out most of the day, then you shouldn't have a problem, but you may want to be wary if you stay in or require anything extra or out of the inn's norm.

Weekend Stay for 2

2,8 sur février 24, 2014

This is almost just like staying in someone's house! Overall it was just okay. We've been there twice so far because we wanted to try another room.. They have a lot of rules so make sure you're ready to BE QUIET! I overheard the host tell some other guests to come back and spend more money. He didn't mean it in a bad way it's just tacky. Also my Girlfriend requested a Vegetarian breakfast and it nearly blew their mind! The confusion it caused made us feel a little uncomfortable, which sucks when you're paying for a leisurely weekend where breakfast is made for you, etc. We are not uptight people but we like to feel a little more freedom to relax. Overall it's just not worth it. Rooms are small too.

Best Bed & Breakfast in Big Bear

4,4 sur février 23, 2014

My husband and I loved our 2 day getaway at Knickerbocker Inn. The service was wonderful. They serve a gourmet breakfast. On Friday and Sat night they also open for dinner. We visited during the week, so we did not get to try this. The site is walking distance to "The Village" a shopping and restaraunt area. The site also leads to one of many hiking paths. We will definitely return.

nice place

4,6 sur février 19, 2014

The food was amazing

Great 2 Night Stay

Knickerbocker Review

4,4 sur février 05, 2014

My stay at the Knickerbocker was pleasant. The room wasn't cozy and the bathroom was surprisingly big. The bed was comfortable. The room was heated up nicely but it was very very dry. It's 10 minutes away from the resort and 1 minute away from the village. Very convenient location. The breakfast was excellent. Definitely exceeded my expectations there.

Incredible Weekend

5 sur février 05, 2014

Our stay at the Knickerbocker Inn was truly memorable. The mansion and the grounds are so beautiful, the rooms were comfortable and clean with a mountain cabin feel. The service was truly AMAZING. The breakfast was some of the best I've ever eaten. The wait staff was so polite and friendly. We will absolutely come back to the Knickerbocker. Thanks for a memorable weekend!

Such a quaint, cozy room

4,4 sur janvier 30, 2014

The room was super cozy. I loved how there was a fireplace to keep the room warm whenever we'd come back from the cold. The bathroom was a good size and had plenty of towels, complimentary bath gels, and hand soap. There was enough space in the the forest view I room for our luggages so that it didn't feel too cramped. Breakfast was a pleasant experience. We went both mornings and enjoyed great customer service and food. We were full by the time we were finished. 24 hour access to coffee, tea, hot cider, and baked goods. We would definitely come back.

A lovely stay at a rustic B&B

3,8 sur janvier 29, 2014

The knickerbocker mansion was a wonderful place for a Big Bear getaway. It is walking distance to the little town. The room was very clean and cozy. The mansion is quaint and the bistro served truly outstanding breakfasts. Everyone was friendly and kind.

Weekend getaway

3,0 sur janvier 29, 2014

I would recommend the Knickerbocker Bed and Breakfast to my friends. Although I believe the price is a bit steep it was well worth the upgrade to the Penthouse Suite simply because of the privacy it allowed us. My only complaints would be about the heating source and the extremely sagging couch. The wood burning stove was our only heat source and the firewood was wet, which made it almost impossible to keep a fire burning. Thankfully we went on a weekend where the weather was quite mild so the room temperature was not a huge deal. The couch on the other hand was a nightmare; we kept falling out of it because it was so old and lumpy and the cushion would not stay on the couch itself. Now on to the great things about the Penthouse Suite at the Knickerbocker Mansion; the bed was extremely cozy; the view from our deck was spectacular; the breakfast they served was yummy, and the staff was pleasant. Big Bear Lake is always beautiful regardless of the time of year you visit. If money is not an obstacle, I highly recommend upgrading to the Penthouse Suite, the other rooms pale in comparison. I may not go back, but I am glad I went. It was a very romantic weekend spent with my husband.

Best B&B

We had a great time at the Mansion. Everyone was very kind, friendly and attentive. The food was outstanding, the rooms comfortable and clean. It is within walking distance to the village. We will be back.

Nice location and cozy cabin

4,0 sur janvier 21, 2014

Breakfast was excellent

Great place to relax and get away!

4,2 sur janvier 19, 2014

My wife and I just wanted to get out of town for the weekend and relax. I will say that this was a great way to get that accomplished! Stan the innkeeper was helpful and friendly we will be back there again.

Beautiful room

4,0 sur janvier 16, 2014

Room was beautiful. All clean and very cozy. Parlor area was charming. Breakfast had good and bad. Server was good. One breakfast was savory and the other was sweet. Savory started with bowl of fruit topped with a dollop of whipped cream. Fruit was sweet but was cut into tiny pieces. Whipped cream was home made. Yum. Then came the main course. It was a "shoot egg, ranchero style". The dish was very spicy and the egg was very under cooked. Not edible! It was served with a scone that was very good. Breakfast on day 2 was a little better. It started with a small dish of baked banana topped with slivered almonds and a dollop of marmalade. It was wonderful. The main dish was a "bread pudding stuffed french toast". It was really a bread pudding type dish (nothing french toast about it). It was too sweet for my taste and that was without any of the syrup they served it with. It also came with very tasty sausage links. Overall, it seemed like the chef was trying too hard to serve a "fancy" meal rather than just a tasty one. Would I stay there again? Absolutely. Just know you may not leave breakfast full and satisfied.

Lovely Experience

My stay at the Knickerbocker

4,6 sur janvier 13, 2014

My friend and I spent two nights at the "Knick" for a ski trip and we had a great time. The Inn was great, very interesting history and warm and inviting. The owner Stan was the best and the room and the breakfasts were top notch. I would definitely stay here again. Thanks for making my stay in Big Bear awesome!

2nd time stay for our anniversary

4,0 sur janvier 12, 2014

The rooms are somewhat tight, but excellent cozy woodsy outdoorsy feel, especially with the great heater. Hopefully you won't have any noisy neighbors; we didn't and the clientele seem to be all understanding. The host and three welcoming staff will kill you with kindness, and the continental breakfast is like something you might taste on a gourmet cooking show. The price was somewhat steep but when we considered location, room, continental breakfast, and owner and staff, it was well worth the one night stay.

Great Stay

4,8 sur janvier 08, 2014

Nice setting,Very Relaxing,Good food

Enjoyed the Knickerbocker

3,4 sur janvier 06, 2014

Overall, we enjoyed our stay. The proprietor was very hospitable and interesting. Everything was clean and well maintained. The lodge and dining were very nice. The room was cozy (small) and rustic. But the price seemed too high to me considering the room size/features, even with a Living Social discount.

Great B&B in Big Bear!

4,2 sur janvier 03, 2014

Overall a very good experience!

The Knickerbocker is wonderful!

5 sur janvier 02, 2014

This lovely mansion is a top quality home away from home offering extremely well appointed rooms and suites, exquisite dining- both breakfasts and the restaurant- easy access to the activities of Big Bear Lake and adjoining delights, and the best host ever.

awesome getaway weekend

4,8 sur janvier 01, 2014

My husband and I spent a weekend away from the kids before he deployed. He bought me it as a Christmas Gift. It was just a small room, but it was awesome. The Breakfast was wonderful as well as the owner and staff. I would definitely stay time with the kiddos!

Knickerbocker for anniversary

4,0 sur décembre 30, 2013

We had a very nice stay at the Knickerbocker mansion. The room is simple but cozy. The building itself is a bit noisy... you can hear the creaks mostly when people are walking around and up and down stairs. The food was delicious! We enjoyed speaking with the owner. He was very friendly and outgoing. We would visit again however we wish we could bring our young children with us but understand the policy.

5 sur décembre 28, 2013

Simply awesome!

Pretty good experience

4,0 sur décembre 28, 2013

Used a living social deal which made the rooms a very good deal. The breakfast was pretty good and the atmosphere in the lounge area is nice. The room we stayed in was tiny, but for two people it's all you really need. The inn keeper can be a bit pompous but he means well.

Big Bear During Wnter

5 sur décembre 27, 2013

My husband and I stayed at the Knickerbocker Mansion for a couple of nights just before Christmas 2013. Great service, the inn keeper Stan, is really funny and knows the amazing history of the Mansion and retells it during breakfast. The location is perfect, the room are well situated away from each other so you don't hear your neighbors. Overall a great experience. We will be return!! MAC

Best place ever

5 sur décembre 21, 2013

I absolutely love this place.. I got the living social deal and will not regret it. The staff was outstanding and the place beautiful.. The bed was so comfortable I slept like a baby.... The breakfast was delicious and healthy... I highly recommend this place...

Fun Atmosphere, Lacks Finishing Touches

2,8 sur décembre 18, 2013

The room was small, which was fine. I stayed in Lakeview House II. There was a fireplace inside which was nice, so we were very warm even when it was freezing outside. The compound is cute and in a great location in Big Bear. The main house is adorable and perfectly decorated for the winter/holiday season. Our biggest issue was that the pre-planned breakfasts in the morning were not very good. The baked and/or poached fruit first course were both cold and not too tasty. The main course was OK the first day and the second it was not so much. Not that I expect coffee to be good anywhere but when I make it myself at home, but this was pretty bad. The innkeeper is a strange man. It is my understanding that most complaints about the place are about him. Overall, we got a deal on LivingSocial, which was still a bit too expensive. I'd pay about $50 a night here.

4,0 sur décembre 18, 2013

We stayed December 13-15, and loved every minute! The room (Forest View II) was charming and comfortable. Little touches like a rubber ducky on the tub make it feel like home. The round the clock tea, cider, and coffee offering was nice. Breakfast was delicious! My only suggestion is to extend breakfast hours just a bit, people are there on a vacation and would appreciate being able to sleep in. I will definitely stay again.

Our favorite B&B

5 sur décembre 16, 2013

My wife and I got married here 2 years ago and will be returning every year for our anniversary. We stay in the penthouse and it's well worth the price. For anyone looking for a quite getaway with outstanding food and service, I can't recommend the Knickerbocker enough. We're already looking forward to our next trip.

Great stay in Big Bear

5 sur décembre 15, 2013

Knickerbocker is so cute. Service was great and the food is to die for.

Our stay

3,6 sur décembre 14, 2013

Would stay again

Very pleasant stay!

5 sur décembre 12, 2013

My fiance and I stayed for two nights and had a great time. The staff was very friendly and helpful during our stay, and the breakfast given to us both mornings was fantastic and high quality. The room itself was a comfortable size and was kept warm the whole stay. We definitely would come again!

Our experience at the inn

3,2 sur décembre 12, 2013

The breakfast schedule is too narrow. Guests have a window of exactly 30 minutes to eat or leave on an empty stomach. There are no exceptions, even if you are 4 minutes late. The waiter was very nice and the food fine but the strict rules do not make guests feel welcome. The room was cute but very small and the heater did not work well. I would not stay there again.

Always meets my expectations.

3,4 sur décembre 12, 2013

This is the 3rd time I've stayed here. And I will continue to go back year after year. It always meets my expectations. Breakfast is a little small for the men, but very tasty. The rooms are very clean. Beds could be a little more comfortable, but comfortable enough. IT was decorated so well for the Holidays and that is something I really enjoy. The sitting room in the Main house by the fire with a chess game and lots of interesting reading books was very relaxing. Coffee and teas along with homemade snacks are made available throughout the day. You must dine at the Bistro on sight. I have found it to be the best restauraunt in Big Bear for dinner dining. Stan the host is always very pleasant and takes time to chat with you and make sure you are enjoying your stay.

lovely place but manager could improve people skills

3,8 sur décembre 10, 2013

The room was warm, cozy, inviting. Very comfortable bed. Breakfast was yummy. Forest View I is more like Parking Lot View... I would choose Forest View II or Lake View I or II next time. Wish the owner/manager would make fewer comments on how much the electric bill is, why he can't afford an ice machine, how the DVD selection is limited because people keep stealing them. A host should not complain so much about how hard it is to run the place, even in jest.

Cozy Big Bear retreat

4,2 sur décembre 09, 2013

A perfectly charming mountain retreat. The delicious cookies, cakes and teas served all afternoon, the delicious breakfasts, the cozy rooms, the beautiful views... If you're looking for a lovely mountain getaway just a couple of hours from LA, you can't go wrong. Be ready to relax and shut off.

Wonderful stay!

We just had the pleasure of a wonderful stay at the Knickerbocker. The rooms are clean, cozy and romantic and the food is wonderful.

4,2 sur décembre 05, 2013

We would stay there again. The staff was excellent.

Great except for Thanksgiving Dinner

4,2 sur décembre 02, 2013

Thanksgiving Dinner with reservations, 1 hour wait to be seated then more than an hour to get served dinner. Out of control. They tried but were not up to the task of serving B&B guests as well as locals with reservations. Great place but do not recommend holiday dinner dining. Breakfasts were outstanding for the 2 days we were there. We will return

Knickerbocker Mansion

5 sur décembre 02, 2013

Wonderful place to stay. Great service, friendly staff,

5 sur décembre 02, 2013

I had no idea this place existed. We stayed in the "Penthouse" and were on top of the world listening to woodpeckers and watching the snow covering pine trees. The Village is approximately 3 blocks away and we walked there in the snow. We ate complimentary breakfast at the Mansion which was very gourmet. We also had dinner one night and the food was spectacular. We met new friends that we will definitely keep in touch with. What a romatic get away. The Mansion is your house equipped with a living room, fireplace, games and a kitchen with sweets and drinks provided all day long. We can't wait to visit again! Teri from San Diego

Great Stay ... Breakfast is fine!

4,4 sur novembre 29, 2013

Room was cozy and hotel felt like home. Breakfast was ok. I loved the fact that they had homemade cookies and pastries for customers to grab and hangout by the down stairs chimney. Only thing was that I was trying to find a microwave but it was inside the kitchen and was locked. Other than that great location and place.

great place to stay

4,4 sur novembre 28, 2013

We arrived just before 7 p.m. along with a nice blanketing of snow. We were warmly greeted at the door by Roy, the innkeeper. He immediately made us feel at home as he showed us to our room. The room was cozy and quaint and full of woodsy charm. The inn has a remote feel to it, but in reality, you're only a quarter mile from the village. My wife and I strolled to the village in the snow, which filled us with holiday spirit. In the morning, breakfast was warm and hearty. In the afternoon, we sat on the veranda with a glass of wine watching an inspiring snowfall. We decided to eat dinner in the bistro that night, and the food and service were incredible. My wife said that her lamb was the best she had ever had. I can't recommend the Knickerbocker enough. For a two hour drive, we were transported to a wondrous mountain paradise. Darren McCobb

Knickerbocker October 2013

4,8 sur novembre 28, 2013

a great weekend retreat for our wedding anniversary !

Pleasant few days away.

4,0 sur novembre 27, 2013

The breakfast here was fabulous! The only issue we had was the mattress needed to be replaced. It did appear they were replacing other mattresses during our stay. The owner and all staff were very friendly. Would go back again if there was a special rate.

First Snow of Fall/Winter

4,4 sur novembre 27, 2013

We were lucky enough to stay at the Knickerbocker Mansion the week before Thanksgiving and enjoy the first snow of the season. Driving was a little bit of an issue (we had AWD). Chains in your possession is a requirement. The room we chose (lake view 2) was cozy/small. The people and food were outstanding; and we plan to visit again.

pricey but very nice, rustic and great location

4,2 sur novembre 27, 2013

we got a living social coupon which brought the price down by about $150 for two nights and I still found it rather pricey. that being said, the place had an awesome feel, very homey and casual. the rooms were really nice (atleast the penthouse where we stayed). it was an easy walk to the downtown big bear area, and staff was very friendly. it's not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Great for a quick getaway!

4,2 sur novembre 23, 2013

We used the living social deal for a weekend getaway. The Inn was very cozy and everyone was very friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was also fantastic both days. Great location, had privacy but was still very easy to get to all the main attractions in town.

Very cozy stay!

4,0 sur novembre 23, 2013

We stayed here for the first 2 nights of our honeymoon and was very nice and cozy! Enjoyed our stay!

Perfect get away and amazing food. A must!

5 sur novembre 20, 2013

Perfect get away and amazing food. A must!

Cozy but not modernized

3,2 sur novembre 20, 2013

Quaint rooms in historic mansion. Cozy, rustic feel to it surrounded by beautiful lush greenery. The in-room tv was old school tube style, but functional. We checked in at night and our first impression was we were in a scary movie with the creaky stairs, but it added to the ambiance of it all. Walking distance to all the shops and eateries.

Getting out of Town

3,2 sur novembre 15, 2013

We spent two nights at the Mansion and it was a nice place to stay. The grounds are cute and rustic and the breakfast was surprisingly good. The rooms are extremely small and expensive for the space they afford, but it is in a great location for walking to the village and it was clean.

Romanic getaway

5 sur novembre 12, 2013

We had a wonderful time. The food was amazing and the Carriage house was beautiful.

Charming and Close to Everything

4,6 sur novembre 08, 2013

Knickerbocker Mansion Country Inn was clean, amazing, and within walking distance to Big Bear Lake's Village.

Fall Weekend at Knickerbocker

4,8 sur novembre 06, 2013

This was a perfect rustic getaway. The location is excellent – on a quiet hill above town but within 3 blocks of the quaint village. The historic main lodge and the converted carriage house are comfortable and cozy. The innkeeper, Stan and his assistant Roy are very welcoming. Breakfasts cooked by chef Robert are exceptional. Dinners also are excellent and while pricey are in line with the better Big Bear restaurants. The Knickerbocker experience was made all the more special because of Stan Miller, who not only greets each guest but also offers a short and informative discussion during breakfast regarding the history of the property and its original owner, William Knickerbocker.

3,6 sur novembre 02, 2013

Our room was great. Overpriced in my opinion but we enjoyed our time.

A Funky Penthouse Delight of A Getaway

3,4 sur octobre 30, 2013

My wife and I stayed in the lovely funky penthouse suite, up on the third floor, views in all four directions for five nights, mid October, 2013. Warned that the only heat would be from the franklin stove, we were surprised and delighted to feed it logs and see how easily it kept us toasty and cozy. The 9am call to breakfast each morning was a real treat -- great food, good service, and lovely folks to share the meals with. Our only complaint was the cleanliness -- there was dust and cobwebs and Stan made no apologies for it, and alas, nor did Janet do very much to rid us of it. Also, being at the top of the Inn, it felt like some days, though we did not expect fresh bed linens ( we had plenty of fresh towels), it did feel like our room rec'd kind of a rush job. Disappointing. But the only one. And yes, Stan is a handful, but an ebullient and warm one, full of great stories. Also, the one dinner we had there was high quality, superb! Truly, a treasure among the Big Bear Lake mountains.

Historic Hideout

4,4 sur octobre 30, 2013

Perfect hideout for those in need of a little R&R. Splendid solitude. Perfect location with a feel of being at home. Spectacular breakfasts. --Linda Jo Brown

Our stay was great, the food wonderful and the company perfect!

Soft Beds

4,2 sur octobre 18, 2013

The site was nice, but the bed was so soft and saggy did not make for a good nights sleep, breakfast was good but not having a chair in the bedroom made it hard to sit in your room

4,6 sur octobre 16, 2013

best food in town!!! Everyone there is so great!!! I would stay again if they offered another deal, regular prices are a bit too much for my budget.

Fantastic Weekend at the Knickerbocker

4,4 sur octobre 16, 2013

The area was paradise, the room in the carriage house quaint and cozy, and the Mansion itself impressive. The food was to die for and plentiful! My favorite though was our proprietor... Stan Miller. He was engaging, fun, witty and very knowledgeable. I really enjoyed the history and background of the Inn and how he came to acquire it! Overall the weekend was outstanding! We'll definitely be back! – K.L. Anderson

Unusual and interesting stay

Very interesting host, with a plethora of stories about his life in the entertainment industry. Excellent breakfasts.

Room without a view

Knickerbocker Mansion

4,4 sur septembre 30, 2013

LOVED the upper floor suite. The bathroom was beautiful and the jacuzzi tub got alot of use! The "kitchen" area of the suite was very large as was the rest of the room and the bed! Grounds were very nice also.

4,0 sur septembre 27, 2013

Not thrilled with the bed, but all else was fine.

A glorious and traditional spot to disconnect from time and enjoy life

4,6 sur septembre 26, 2013

The Mansion falls squarely in the tradition of the French Chateaux and Relais in a very American expression. Garden chess goes hand in hand with log homes. Mountain style with direct relationship with the proprietor. Hosted cultural events are an expression of the West and its history. What a wonderful combination!

We ha a lovely time. I love staying tn the estate itself. it was very peaceful.

4,8 sur septembre 25, 2013

Great time at the Knickerbocker Mansion country Inn!

5 sur septembre 24, 2013

What a great time we had at the Knickerbocker Inn. We had a wonderful breakfast and host Stan is awesome!

5 sur septembre 23, 2013

Absolutely wonderful! Stan was a great host. So peaceful, walking distance to village and lake. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. The beds were so comfortable with pillow top mattresses and Egyptian cotton sheets and down comforter. Loved it. Would definitely go back!

1st stay

3,6 sur septembre 21, 2013

We too, had a living social deal. The mansion and grounds are charming, and there is a lot of attention to detail. We were welcomed warmly, and little things that most hotels charge extra for are free here. We had water waiting in our room, movies and books to use, coffee and snacks available and wifi in the room. Breakfast was included and was fantastic. I read a review that they were skimpy, but I don't see how that can be. My wife could not even finish hers. Great conversation about the history of the mansion, and Stan's colorful life as well. Rooms were small, but very comfortable. Might not be the same as a Hilton, but we knew that upfront, and were not looking for that. Wish we could have stayed to try the restaurant, and the stage event on Sunday.

Knickerbocker Mansion B&B PT's B'day

4,6 sur septembre 18, 2013

Stan and his team were exceptional hosts. The Knickerbocker Mansion is both quaint and very comfortable. Food was extremely good and my wife even went as far as asking if the chef had a cookbook we could purchase somewhere. Quiet and peaceful surroundings just blocks away and within walking distance of Village Drive where most shopping and dining is available. Stan is also quite knowledgeable about Big Bear and history of the Knickerbocker and willingly shares his stories with patrons. Would definitely stay again and would recommend to anyone who asks. Had a great time!

Enjoyed our stay

3,4 sur septembre 13, 2013

Enjoyed a living social deal. The breakfast both mornings was very good. The room was small, but I knew that it would be. Very cozy with gas fireplace. Had afternoon coffee/tea with cookies and scones. The cookies were homemade, but not very good. Our host, Stan was very nice and made sure that everything was good for our stay. I would consider returning.

Awesome Experience!

3,8 sur septembre 13, 2013

We had a great stay. Went for the weekend & Stan greeted us nicely & gave us an overview of how things work around the mansion. We stayed in the penthouse suite and loved it. Huge room with a comfy king bed, a living area, a dining area, & a big bathroom with a jacuzzi tub. The breakfast was great both days, and started out with a happy "Goodmorning!" from Stan himself. We didn't have a chance to eat dinner in the Bistro, but it looked packed both nights we were leaving or coming. Overall our stay was wonderful & we are looking forward to returning to the Mansion for our next stay.

Greeat B&B

4,0 sur septembre 08, 2013

First time at a B&B, was a great experience in a beautiful setting. Would like to go in the winter with the snow, I'm sure it would be most spectacular. The breakfast that is included was amazing.

Very Nice Property

4,4 sur septembre 01, 2013

The operator was very friendly, the outdoor porch seating was delightful. Everyone was helpful and nice. The food was very good. The area is beautiful, and the rates were very affordable. Recommended.

Big Bear Lake Getaway

4,0 sur septembre 01, 2013

Found a great deal on Living Social for a stay here and decided to use it on a recent getaway to the mountains. Was not disappointed! Stan Miller, the inn keeper and host, runs a tight ship...breakfast is served promptly from 8:30-9 (!) But makes sure everyone is enjoying themselves and knows all the activities that are happening in town. We had a great time and we're very pleased with the location, the room, the main house and the gourmet breakfasts were delicious! Worth the short service time! Would highly recommend for anyone visiting Big Bear Lake.

Home away from home

3,4 sur août 31, 2013

Enjoyed our stay at the Knickerbocker Inn tremendously. Stan, owner and Inn keeper could not make us feel more welcome and the food in the Bistro is excellent, probably the best in the Valley. Excellent breakfast was served every morning. Place with a lot of character and a welcoming host and his team, but certainly quirky at the same time. If you feel most at home at international chains like Hyatt, Starwood or Hilton, with standardised rooms, this place may not be for you, for all others - you will enjoy the break from exactly those monotinous, soulless places. Knickerbocker Masion

4,8 sur août 28, 2013

We had a very enjoyable stay at the Knickerbocker Mansion. The breakfasts were excellent. Stan was accommodating and as our server at breakfast told us about the history of the Mansion and surrounding area. The Mansion itself is fabulously quaint and very relaxing. The view from the Veranda (and its resident acorn woodpeckers) is beautiful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

great time!

We had a great time, would come back again for sure!!

Beautiful Mansion

It's the best place to stay in Big Bear. Accommodations are great, the views are beautiful, food is yummy and the employees are all very friendly.

Great tranquil place that feels like home. Will definitely return.

wonderful stay at the Knickerbocker Mansion Country Inn

4,2 sur août 19, 2013

This is an amazing place. You are up in the pines and the smell is so fresh and wonderful. The buildings are gorgeous and rustic and the service is casual and the proprietor is so pleasant and helpful. The chef made amazing meals and it just a very relaxing place. It is nice to be so close to the little town of Big Bear but yet away from it all at the same time. We will be going back

knickerbocker inn

4,6 sur août 18, 2013

I would highly recommend this inn. the food was great. Service and attention to guests, first class. Clean, tidy rooms. A yellow rubber duck in bath tub. Value was great for 2 night stay we had.

Had a great time

4,6 sur août 15, 2013

Loved the place and I will go back. Beautiful old Mansion, with lots of history and charm, Stan is a great host.

August weekend

3,2 sur août 14, 2013

Stayed on a Sat. night. Walking distance to the village. Breakfast was great.

Great bargain with discount.

3,2 sur août 14, 2013

Like the title says, bargain if you have a coupon, but if I had to pay full price I wouldn't do it. The room was tiny, but very clean. The "forest view" title of the room was somewhat misleading, as our view, which was the same as everyone else's on that side of the building, was mainly of the building next to us. The only forest view was standing on the porch staring out across the nicely maintained property. Would I stay here again? Yes, but I'd be sure to upgrade to the penthouse suite if only for the fact that it looked to have a real view.

5 sur août 07, 2013

The main element that sets the Knickerbocker apart from any other B&B is the innkeeper Stan. From the time we arrived till checkout Stan was fantastic, always asking if there was anything else we needed and continuously providing historical info about the mansion and Big Bear as well. Stan is a genuinely nice guy and great innkeeper who went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was fantastic and that we had a safe drive home. Also the breakfast each day was gourmet and very tasty, overall excellent experience.

Knickerbocker review

3,4 sur août 07, 2013

The innkeeper was very friendly, but unfortunately has no understanding/sensitivity for people with food allergies. I told him I am gluten-free, but was still served sausages full of fillers that made me sick. If the innkeeper is going to serve food, he needs to research the ingredients and know what is safe to serve to a person with food allergies. Also, the WiFi in my room didn't work. Despite asking the innkeeper on two separate occasions to fix it (and he said he would), I was never able to connect with the WiFi during my stay. This was very frustrating, as I needed to conduct business during my vacation.

What a fun place to stay.

4,4 sur août 06, 2013

What a fun place to stay. Stan is a great host and we thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Knickerbocker Mansion. Tom and Diane

Knickerbocker Mansion Inn - The ROMANTIC Getaway

4,8 sur août 03, 2013

The rooms are very cozy & comfortable! The grounds & property are kept neat, well manicured and clean. The diningroom is Beautifully designed & decorated. A Must Visit & Stay!! The PERFECT Romantic Getaway!!

Very good deal with Livingsocial Code

3,6 sur août 02, 2013

The Knickerbocker Mansion Country Inn is a great place to stay after the Livingsocial coupon, even though I still had to pay $60 for taxes and fees on top of what I paid for the Livingsocial deal. There was a $10 per day fee extra for the Forest 3 room we used, but I am not certain why. Perhaps because it is on the ground floor. Anyways, other than a few cob webs on the ceiling fan and lights the room was clean. The owner and caretakers were very nice and the included breakfast at 9am was delicious. I would not hesitate to stay there again, although only with some type of coupon or deal like I got some livingsocial. I think the regular room prices are very exaggerated, but maybe those are the going rates for winter, when the demand is very high. I like to go in the summer. Its a great place to take the family.

Very Nice Time!

3,8 sur août 02, 2013

My wife and I visit Big Bear often and were pleasantly surprised when we chose to stay at the Knickerbocker Mansion. We will definitely return and look forward to it! Do not pass on the breakfast, delicious! Thanks Stan for making our stay very enjoyable!

Perfect location

4,4 sur juillet 31, 2013

The mansion sits at the base if the mountain with perfect access to forest roads for hiking, mountain biking and off road. Only a few blocks from "the village" for restaurants bars and shopping and 1/2 mile from the lake! Room was small, but great views and the screen door allows fresh air and light. Breakfast was excellent and the innkeeper was very pleasant and interesting.

Summer Get Away

4,2 sur juillet 30, 2013

My husband and I took a short break and went to the Knickerbocker Inn for a couple of days. The Art and Cultural center was having a celtic music concert at the inn, we really enjoyed the concert. Dinner is not usually served on Sundays but following the concert they had a special dinner and it was delicious. Our room had everything we needed and was clean and tidy. Breakfast was also very good. I enjoyed the view from the resturant. We look forward to going back.

Comfy Cute Historical B&B,

4,8 sur juillet 29, 2013

Set in the trees above Big Bear Lake, quiet clean, easy to get to,the staff is very courteous, and helpful. Thanx to the chef for great breakfasts. The Inn keeper Stanley is very hospitable and friendly. We went there to relax and that's what we did.

Rustic, relaxing and just Right!

4,8 sur juillet 27, 2013

Such a beautiful B and B. The room was comfortable, clean and looked out to the mountains and lake. We loved sitting on the balcony watching a family of birds feed their babies. Breakfast was delicious. I'm looking forward to staying at the Knickerbocker again.

Tucked in the trees

4,8 sur juillet 27, 2013

What a nice break away from the city to enjoy the peace and quiet of the Knickerbocker Mansion. Our room was cozy and the full hot breakfast delicious. The owner, Stanley has interesting stories. Take advantage of the large terrace with the work of the Woodpeckers in view.

A lovely B&B

3,8 sur juillet 26, 2013

We really enjoyed the setting of it this bed-and-breakfast. It is close to the village of Big Bear- walking distance, and very close to trails and the lake. There is a lot to do! The breakfasts in the morning are wonderful!

big bear get a way

4,6 sur juillet 25, 2013

My husband and I went to Big Bear to celebrate our third anniversary. We found Knickerbocker mansion a fun place to stay. The owner was friendly and came in to chat during breakfast each morning. He was happy to answer our questions about the Knickerbocker history. The breakfasts were delish. Our youngman waiter (sorry I can't recall his name) was eager to please and most gracious and mannerly. Breakfast was an omlet one morning and blueberry pancakes the other. Both preceeded by fresh fruit. Our second morning one of the guests was full of ridiculous complaints but Stan smoothed her over and calmed the situation down beautifully. Our room while quite tiny was comfortable, the grounds lovely to walk around. We walked down the hill both nights just a few blocks to the village and ate at the lovely Peppercorn which was recommended by Stan. We then walked off dinner walking just a few more minutes down the hill and enjoyed sunsets on the lake. Quiet, peaceful and relaxing. The beautiful Bisou and Faux Paux, the giant poodles were a great addition to the property, running the circuit while "Dad" made his rounds.

Cedar IV Was Nice!!

5 sur juillet 25, 2013

Really nice place to get away. The lodge makes you feel at home. I will go back whenever possible.

Wonderful place in a beautiful setting

3,6 sur juillet 25, 2013

My wife and I stayed here while we attended her family reunion. Our initial reason for choosing the Knickerboker Mansion was because it was originally built by my Grand Uncle, Bill Knick, and this was my first opportunity to see it in person. It is everything I had heard about it and more. Much of the Mansion remains as it had been built at the beginning of the 20th century. We were warmly greeted by Stan, proprietor and inn keeper, when we arrived and shown to our room which was the penthouse suite in the main house. The room was spacious and comfortable with the aide of fans (no A/C) to cool it. We stayed four nights and each morning Chef Robert prepared a scrumptious breakfast. Unfortunately, we did not have time to partake of Robert's dinner offerings on Fridays and Saturdays. If you are looking for quiet, comfortable accommodations in Big Bear, then look no further than the Knickerbocker Mansion Country Inn.

Great weekend away

5 sur juillet 21, 2013

We went on a livingsocial deal, very kind and courteous staff, old and rustic. Wonderful!

Great stay

4,8 sur juillet 19, 2013

My wife and I had a wonderful time at the knickerbocker. I would tell anyone to stay there.

Cozy farm house retreat!

4,6 sur juillet 19, 2013

Old world charm and history and so close to The Village - we walked down the hill to dinner- and a lovely 20min walk along a trail with views to Sow Summit where we rented mountain bikes and rode the chair lift! This is not a granite counter tops homogenous motel stay, the rooms are more traditional of a mountain cabin which suits our style! The on-site chef made delicious breakfasts and yummy cookies always available in the cookie jar. Wish we could have stayed for the weekend music event, but we will be back!

Room was really small but very clean

4,2 sur juillet 12, 2013

We stayed in Forest Room 1 and it was really cute but very small. My husband travels frequently for work and was put off by the room. He really wished there was a chair to sit in. The whole place was really charming and I appreciated how clean the it was. The bistro had good food every morning and we had a nice time.

Friendly Staff, Beautiful Grounds

4,2 sur juillet 09, 2013

Rooms are cute. Grounds are breathtaking! Breakfast delicious. Owner and staff are welcoming, friendly and very helpful. Location within walking distance to both village and lake.

mountain service

4,2 sur juillet 04, 2013

Our stay was for a memorial service on the property. We found the Inn to be very charming and had a great night stay under the circumstances. The innkeeper was very pleasant and catered to all of our whims. The included breakfast was exceptional. We happened to be there on the hottest day and even with no AC, the fans kept the room cool. Would definitely make a return visit, though for a longer stay.

Outstanding Breakfasts

4,4 sur juillet 03, 2013

Breakfasts here were the highlight of our stay. Saturday's breakfast was baked banana with orange marmalade and chopped pecans followed by baked eggs with bacon, spinach and more. Wonderful. Sunday breakfast was half a spice poached pear followed by cranberry pancakes and 2 large breakfast sausages. I'm a hearty eater but couldn't finish the pancakes. Don't normally eat anything with cranberries but the flavor was outstanding. The village is funky and so is this B&B. I think a better name for it would be Knickerbocker Chalet instead of Mansion as it really does remind me of a Swiss chalet!

Knickerbocker Mansion Country Inn

2,8 sur juillet 01, 2013

Nice, small but quaint room with a single queen bed that is way too soft, and pillows that are way too flat. Since part of the ceiling is sloped, the area where you hang your clothes or set your luggage is dark. It would be nice to have a battery operated light over in that area. The homemade breakfast was great. Homemade pancakes with apples and cranberries and two large sausages, coffee and OJ was all eaten up on the first breakfast. I forget what they called the second breakfast, but it was two eggs that were baked with bacon bits and cheese sprinkled on top. They were baked over-easy, and we both would have preferred it to be a little more cooked.

Knickerbocker Stay

4,6 sur juin 28, 2013

This was such a great deal- 2 for 1 night. The location was ideal, stores restaurants all within walking distance. The innkeeper was very friendly and helpful, the breakfasts were delicious- served at 9am. The room was tiny, and a bit warm (no central air) but the bed was cozy and the room was very clean. I would definitely return!

A great time

5 sur juin 27, 2013

The cabin is right next to town, there are some beautiful walking trails right behind it and the breakfast was amazing!

Well worth it

4,6 sur juin 21, 2013

We stayed in forest room III, and it was lovely. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom enormous. The property is close to the Village shopping area, an easy 5 minute walk. The owners are great hosts, truly polite and knowledgeable about the area.

Romantic weekend stay

3,8 sur juin 12, 2013

We stayed in the Carriage House, a separate building away from the historic main house, which, we were told, was converted from a barn. It has six rooms. We stayed in one of the upstairs rooms, which was small but adequate, though stuffy since it was warm. The overhead fan helped, but was too noisy to keep on during the night. The main issue though, were the thin walls: we could hear people in the rooms next to us and below us walking and !!! during the night. I think next time we'll opt to stay in the main house... The "gourmet" breakfasts each morning were indeed delicious and beautfully prepared. It was worth the sacrifice of getting up early to enjoy breakfast between 8:30 and 9 a.m. The innkeeper and owner, Stan, was very welcoming and shared some interesting and entertaining stories. We got a discounted rate through LivingSocial, which made our stay very affordable. Thank you, Stan, for your great hospitality!

The Knickerbocker is a fabulous place to stay.

4,4 sur mai 20, 2013

This was our second visit. The historical mansion is full of charm and the inkeeper Stan is a delightful man. Fabulous breakfasts. We will return. My only complaint has to do with some of the room amenities in the penthouse. The CD player was broken, there was no coffee in the coffee station, and the electric tea pot was missing a cord. These are small problems though, easily remedied, and not reasons to think twice about going. GO! You'll love it.

Weekend scrapbooking at the Mansion

4,6 sur mai 19, 2013

When you stay at the Knickerbocker Mansion, you are tucked away enough to feel your in your own little forest area, but walking distance to shopping and the Lake. We are part of a group that uses the conference center for scrapbooking on a yearly basis. The breakfasts, and Weekend Dinner at their bistro are truly anticipated. The grounds are fun to explore, and the downstairs gathering/dining area feels at home.

Out Stay at the Knickerboker

We stayed over a long weekend, in shoulder season. The Knickerbocker host was charming and attentive, the food was magnificent, and the location was excellent. A great place for privacy and romance.

Wonderful Getaway

4,8 sur avril 09, 2013

My girlfriend and I had the greatest time staying at the Knickerbocker Mansion! It was our anniversary. That place is fantastic. Every nook and cranny is decorated with something interesting. We started taking pictures on the first floor and before we knew it we had taken 200 pictures. We stayed in the Penthouse Suite. That was another hundred or so pictures. The room was warm, cozy and very romantic. I felt so at home in the penthouse suite. Every single member of the staff treated us like family. They couldn't have been kinder or more helpful. The breakfast was one of the best breakfasts I have ever had. Robert (the chef) served a variation of a Denver Omelet, Robert's special potatoes and two types of delicious scones. Robert hung around so we could ask him questions about the meal ... and he was more than happy to give us a little history of the Mansion. The owner is a down to earth, friendly guy. His name is Stan Miller and if you Google him (Stan Miller Sound) you will be amazed at just how famous he is. It was plain to see that the Knickerbocker Mansion is a labor of love for Stan and the rest of the crew. We hated to leave the place, but we are certainly coming back - I still have to ask Stan if he knows Steely Dan, Pete Townsend and a few more. We both felt like we were leaving friends behind. What a wonderful experience!

Knickerbocker is the way to roll

4,6 sur mars 22, 2013

We enjoyed our anniversary celebration here. Stan is warm and engaging, the bed was so comfortable, and there is a great hiking trail right off the back of the property.

Perfect Mountain Retreat

5 sur février 27, 2013

This is an amazing B & B. The rooms are cozy and rustic, exactly what you want in a mountain lodge. Also, the food is off the hook!

Knickerbocker is the Best

4,4 sur février 27, 2013

Once we reserved our room we were immediately contacted with a warm email and a few days prior to our arrival we were advised to check road conditions since this location has unexpected snow storms that can cause problems. We felt immediately at home and comfortable with hot tea or coffee, and delicious homebaked snacks, then our room was exactly what you imagine a rustic mansion to be- 4 poster pillow top bed, views from the window, all the charming details. The breakfast was impressive and dinner was even better! Quality food thoughtfully prepared, and the staff was freindly and helpful. As a bonus we enjoyed watching a woodpecker family just outside the window during breakfast-free entertainment. We will certainly return and tell everyone to visit also.

Great weekend escape!!

4,6 sur février 20, 2013

My wife and I both enjoyed the great food at the mansion.

A Wonderful Get Away

5 sur janvier 27, 2013

What a lovely experience! The Knickerbocker gave us the privacy of a fine hotel with the warmth of being in a good friends home. It was fabulous! I especially enjoyed the little touches: fancy folded tissues, chocolate truffles on the night stand, a rubber ducky on the bathtub, and classic music gently playing in the background. The queen size bed was by far the most comfortable I have ever slept in. I never wanted to get out. I am currently looking for the items that I would need to duplicate the experience. It took me back to my childhood when an elderly friend would tuck me into a feather bed. That's a hint. We are eager to go back soon and hopefully stay longer. Thank you Thomas for being such a charming host. Dee Hilburn

A good place to experience a BnB

2,8 sur janvier 23, 2013

Room and property was clean. Walls are a little bit thin so you can hear people next door. The breakfasts are a bit on the small side.

January 2013 stay

4,6 sur janvier 20, 2013

Thankyou for your hospitality and wondeful experience we had while staying at your location. It was avery memorable time for us as we were engaged while staying at Knickerbacher. The Room was cozy and romantic, the view was amazing and the mansion was beautiful. Excellent food and very professional staff. The location is quaint and the ambiance was perfect for a romantic weekend getaway. The Village was in walking distance and we really enjoyed visiting the different shops. I would reccomend anyone who is looking to impress their significant other with a romantic professional get away to visit this location, you will not be disappointed it is affordable and unique with a great history and very kind owners. They are very helpful and knowledable and will answer any questions you have as well as make you feel at home and part of their family.

Wonderful Ski Trip Lodging

3,8 sur janvier 11, 2013

Took my boyfriend here for a ski trip and had a wonderful time. There were some issues with the service (apparently cleaning staff quit with no notice, so I'm sure it's normally better), but the owner is a sweetheart and the food was fantastic (best food we had in Big Bear). We'll definitely be staying again.

Our wonderful anniversary stay!!

5 sur janvier 08, 2013

Craig and Karen Edwards, We had a great anniversary celebration at the Mansion. The room, service and food we the best. We celebrated News Years Eve. two years ago and it was just as good.

Loved my stay!

4,4 sur janvier 07, 2013

I loved this Bed and Breakfast. The owner and staff were very friendly and the food was Excellent! Definitely a 5-Star Dining. The room was very cozy, just a bit small. Service was great, although some small items were missed such as replacement of glasses and trash being taken out, but once front desk was notified, someone came to fix it right away. The location is excellent as well because right down the street is the Village where you can go shopping and grab a bite to eat at numerous places. The building has charm and does have noises here and there because of its age, but overall I was very pleased with my stay and would recommend this place to others.

Snowy New Years Eve!

3,6 sur janvier 04, 2013

Decorated for Christmas and covered with snow, Knickerbocker Mansion was the picture perfect destination for a California New Year's celebration. Their breakfast exceeds any we have had at other B&B's here or in Europe! Innkeeper Stan is great with stories of Big Bear & life in music industry. Easy location for enjoying the town, very comfortable get away so close to LA and OC.

Our First Visit

We visited the Knickerbocker for our anniversary. It was our first time ever in a B&B and we had a wonderful time. Stan and Thomas are gracious hosts and, of course, Bijou and Faux Pas. We will definitely be back.

Most Relaxing Getaway

5 sur novembre 26, 2012

This is the only place in Big Bear my wife and I will stay at. We try to come up once or twice a year and it is the most relaxing and enjoyable trip every time. You will not be disappointed in staying here. Plus it has the absolute best restaurant on the mountain, so you can't go wrong.

Knickerbocker Fantastic!

4,6 sur novembre 07, 2012

It was a relaxed and fantastic time!

Two nights at the Knickerbocker Mansion

5 sur octobre 19, 2012

We enjoyed our stay at the Knickerbocker mansion as an anniversary getaway. We stayed in the upstairs Suite and were pleasanntly surprised by how spacious it was. The Bathroom included a jacuuzzi tub and shower and the accomodations were more than we expected. We had spent one night at a "Lodge" not far from the Mansion and were very disappointed considering the price per night was identical. It made us feel like we were truly getting a deal! Our Breakfasts both tasted wonderful and were quite filling with large portions. I quickly fell in love with the rustic feel of the Mansion but felt very comfortable with the more modern furnishings. We will look forward to returning to the Knickerbocker to enjoy the rustic charm it holds. I feel it is one of the best kept secrets in Big Bear Lake.

Great stay at the mansion!

4,0 sur octobre 16, 2012

My wife and I were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at Knickerbocker mansion. The grounds were very clean and so was the room once we checked in. We stayed in the Lakeview II room and although it was small it was cozy and plenty adequate for my wife and I. Breakfast is served at 8:30 and we were not disappointed, it was delicious and the service was outstanding! We would highly recommend this bed-and-breakfast to anyone and we are looking forward to our next visit to the mansion.

Bed & Breakfast Love

5 sur octobre 05, 2012

Incredibly beautiful property and the beds were above and beyond comfortable!! I wish I never had to leave.

WORTH IT!!!!!!

4,4 sur septembre 12, 2012

My wife and I recently stayed in the Penthouse for 1 night for our 23rd wedding anniversary. We were greeted promptly and politely and given a short tour of the building and surrounding grounds. I read reviews about "spiders" and rudeness, and I tell you that we found none of that to be true in our case. The staff was very polite and accomodating. We saw no spiders, which to be honest, it is the mountains and there are critters that live there, so you will have to certainly expect it........but again, we didn't see any in the room. Our only regret is that we could only stay one night due to our work schedules, but since we only live about 45 minutes away........we plan a longer stay in the future. Thank you Knickerbocker Mansion!!!!!!!1

3,6 sur septembre 04, 2012

We greatly enjoyed the breakfasts and because of the we had dinner at the Knickerbocker and Saturday night that was delicious. Thomas and Don were very attentive to our needs with misc. and dining. We loved the rooms but the screens, window sills and windows were fiflthy. We had flys in our room because the screen didn't fit tight. There were spider webs. Other than that, it was great.

Réponse du propriétaire
Thanks for the heads up these legitimate concerns at our inn. We just had all the screens repaired within the last month, but after your comments we checked each room and found one of the screens in the one of the rooms damaged. It appears someone tried to break-in from the outside and damaged the screen in doing so. It has been repaired. No excuse for dirty window sills and our housekeeping on all over this also. Thanks for lettering us know. Spiders, what can I say, it is the mountains and they work 24/7. I send the staff on spider web patrol and before you know they are back at work. It is a battle that we do our best to control. We always appreciate a direct comment to us about any problem, so that we can address it during the stay of a guest.

Rustic charm with modern conveniences

4,8 sur août 22, 2012

We had a family reunion at the Knickerbocker Mansion Inn and enjoyed our stay very much. Our rooms downstairs in the Carriage House had gorgeous bathrooms w/marble floors. Upstairs, I think they were a bit smaller. The beautiful grounds were spotless with many charming details. Innkeeper Thomas has a reputation for being a bit brusque, but so would anyone who gets up early to cook for the guests, then check in and check out guests, shops and cooks for dinner, manages the Inn, etc. etc. This guy is busy, busy! I found him very accommodating to every wish the family expressed. Breakfast, by the way, was terrific! And so was the dinner...many had the Stroganoff, which had come highly recommended by previous guests.

OUTSTANDING from check in to check out!

OUTSTANDING from check in to check out! HIGHLY recommend ! This was our secound stay, can't wait to stay again.

Dinning Five Star plus!!!

3,4 sur juillet 14, 2012

The hostess Nancy was the best part of our stay. Her personality, ability to answer questions about the area and concern about our stay was above and beyond any exceptions of an innkeeper! From the many B&B s we have stayed this 1920s country mansion with its charm, excellent food and the opportunity the meet Nancy, made our stay one of the best!

Great getaway on all points

Read mixed reviews but chose to stay here for four nights in the penthouse suite. Had an exceptional vacation in all the categories and plan future stays whenever possible.

Very Cozy!!

Had a great stay!

Great place to stay. Convenient to the village and lake. Thomas is a wonderful host. I would stay there again.

Lovely B&B but such a shame about the beds!

3,0 sur juin 04, 2012

My husband and I recently stayed at the Knickerbocker mansion for a birthday weekend away. The location was perfect and within walking distance of the village. The B&B has lots of character and the staff were friendly especially Don in the dining room. The Breakfast was good. We also dined in the bistro at night and thought the food was very good with an excellent wine selection. We stayed in the Cedar II room which was cozy with a nice bathroom. Our main issue was the bed. The bed itself was a very quaint four poster but it had the most uncomfortable mattress ever. Neither of us slept for the two nights we were there hence the two stars for the room. We didn’t complain. We were there on the spring deal but I don’t think I would go back if I had to pay the full price or even if we got another deal for that matter. Maybe if they could guarantee me a comfortable bed. I know this is a B&B and not a hotel but I have stayed in numerous B&B's all over Europe and never had this issue before. When staying in a B&B you at least expect to be able to have a reasonably comfortable sleep. It’s a real shame because the actual B&B is very nice. After we got back I read some reviews online and other guests had similar comments regarding the beds. My recommendation to the owners/Inn keepers is to review all the beds/mattresses and update the ones that need it.

Historical house with a great location

4,2 sur mai 31, 2012

My favorite thing about Knickerbocker Mansion is that it's walking distance from the Village, so my girlfriend and I were able to have dinner, see a movie, grab a late-night drink and then walk back to our room, all without having to drive, which was nice for me after the long drive to Big Bear. We found a cricket and a couple spiders in our room, which I didn't mind (it's a log cabin, after all) but just be warned if you really hate bugs. For breakfast, they don't give you any options, you're just given whatever they made that day, it might be french toast one day and quiche the next, it's not your call. My girlfriend is vegetarian so they just left the meat off her plate without any substitute, so her breakfast ended up being a bit small. But if you don't have any special dietary considerations, you'll most likely enjoy the gourmet breakfast. The presentation and the view from the dining room are quite nice. I give the place four stars overall, although my girlfriend would probably want me to knock a star off for the bugs and the limited breakfast. But if these aren't concerns for you, then I'd recommend the Knickerbocker, it has a lot of old-fashion woodsy charm, as you can see from the pictures.

Great location, beautiful house

4,2 sur mai 31, 2012

We stayed off-season at a discounted rate, which was a solid value for the great time we had. On-season rates look a little steep, but may be quite reasonable for the area; we did not compare. Stan is an outstanding host, and Thomas is an amazing cook. My wife and I both loved it there.

The best place in town!

5 sur mai 30, 2012

My fiance and I visit Big Bear often and this is the only place we will stay. The rooms are the perfect size for a mountain get away, you receive a truffle that is to die for on your bedside table at check in, the staff is beyond amazing and the food is incredible. We are recommending our wedding party stay here as it is hands down the best place in town!

Awesome Mountain Getaway!

5 sur mai 11, 2012

Our getaway to the mountains was a Christmas gift from our daughter & son-in-law. They gave us a Bed and gift certificate. We love Big Bear and after reading about the Knickerbocker Mansion, we chose to stay there. Great choice!! The atmosphere and food was wonderful and we enjoyed talking to Thomas during our stay! We would highly recommend this B & B and plan to visit again in the future.

Love the Knickerbocker

5 sur mars 29, 2012

This is the best most homey, cozy bed and breakfast that I have ever had the pleasure to stay at. Not only are the rooms comfortable, with a bed you can sink in and food that is wonderful, but the owners are so friendly and nice it feels like one big family. I make every excuse possible to stay there.

Win/Win at the Knickerbocker

4,2 sur février 15, 2012

So I decided a last minute trip up to Big Bear and had no clue where to stay? When I looked online and considered the basics; rate, value, room ... etc. I stumbled upon the Knickerbocker. I gotta say I lucked out big time! It's a short drive from lifts, walking distance from the village, the service was outstanding and FREE breakfast in the morning to boot! It definitely had the warmth comfort of cabin lodging coupled with an outstanding morning meal which made the value all the more worth while! If you are traveling to Big Bear I highly recommend staying here.

The Knick

3,2 sur janvier 05, 2012

It's true, the owners seemed a bit aloof but were nice enough. Did not eat dinner there but breakfast was good. I paid half price for the room on a deal (Living Social) but would not go back at full price.

wonderful getaway close to los angeles

4,6 sur janvier 03, 2012

My husband and I stayed at the Knickerbocker Mansion for a few nights at Christmas, and we absolutely loved our stay. The room was small but very cozy, everything was very clean and comfortable. We were welcomed by Stan one of the Inn keeper and he made sure we had everything we needed the whole time we were there. We decided to have dinner on Chritmas night at the restaurant on the premises and we were not disappointed. The food prepared by Thomas (the other inn keeper), was outstanding and paired beautifuly with the variety of wines on their list. My husband who has been working in the food and wine industry for the last 15 years was in heaven. Everything about the Knickerbocker was welcoming and charming and we loved the holiday decorations all over the premises. We will definetely be back to this B&B only a few hours from Los Angeles.

My husband and I would recommend Knickerbocker Mansion to anyone! We had a wonderful time and hope to make it an annual trip.

Absolutely Amazing!

My boyfriend and I stayed here the week the before Christmas and were beyond satisfied. The rooms were quaint and homey, the food was outstanding (breakfast and dinners) and the owners made you feel like family. Looking forward to coming back next year during the holidays!

Great weekend getaway

3,6 sur décembre 25, 2011

We went up to visit the snow on a LivingSocial discount. The main house was quaint and really decorated for Christmas. The snow was fun and the staff kept the sidewalks and stairs scraped clean as best they could. There was enough hot water for all to bathe without it turning cold. It was near town, but not so close to the main area that it was noisy. We ate at the Knickerbocker restaurant one night, a lovely romantic meal. The only thing we didn't like about Knickerbocker was the paper thin walls in the newer building. 5 units are separate from the main old building. We heard every word other couples spoke in the bathrooms, their TV, phone calls, etc. No one was shouting or anything, the walls were just that thin. Next time we'll stay in the older main house, hopefully more quiet.

3,0 sur décembre 24, 2011

The room was small at first, but the longer we stayed in it the more it became cozy and not cramped. The lake view was small, blocked by icicles, but even then it would have been hard to see the lake without them. The breakfast was amazing both mornings. The hotel is very close to the village making it very convenient to walk to dinner.

Cozy and clean B&B

3,4 sur décembre 19, 2011

Location is great- right next to the little Big Bear Lake shops. You can walk there, which was nice. Food was excellent. Christmas time was beautiful with all the decor. Room was tiny, but I expected that. Room smelled a little like the bathroom, but there isn't alot ventilation when it's 20 degrees. We just sprayed some lavender scent we had & moved on. Owner seemed nice enough, not overly friendly but certainly professional. Overall, good experience- I'd go again.

Looks Amazing but Horrible Things You Should Know

3,0 sur décembre 19, 2011

We were very disappointed in the overall Knickerbocker Mansion experience. 1) YOU CAN HEAR EVERYTHING: You can hear the noise from upstairs so loud making it hard to sleep. At 2:30 in the morning, upstairs guests showered and we both shot up out of our beds because the sound was so intense. You can hear the sound from downstairs as well and if you have the kitchen below you, forget about it. 2) GUEST SERVICE: Our outlet breaker blew out while we were drying hair for 6:30 dinner reservations. First, Thomas told me that it must be the GCI. I asked what it was; he explained it was the red switch on the outlet that needed resetting. I told him I had reset it. He laughed and insisted it was that, told me if the outlet was out, all the power would be out and he'd be up in my room. As it turned out, the outlet was in fact out and his breaker was mismarked; the time he wasted made us late for dinner and we waited 50 minutes once we were late for dinner. Never did he say sorry; not for rudeness, not for the delay, not for not knowing how to fix it. 3) I asked for a one hour late checkout. All things considered, they still said no. They would only offer us a 6pm checkout for an additional $75! The positive (THE KITCHEN): 1) The food was amazing! I thanked the chef on our last day and told him it was the highlight of our stay. 2) They made special vegan food for us!

A wonderful "babymooon"

5 sur décembre 16, 2011

My husband and I came here for a weekday get away before our first child is born and we are not able to have much alone time. It was such a fantastic stay. Stan and Thomas were just wonderful hosts and the breakfasts were amazing. It was snowing which is something that these San Diego kids dont get to experience frequently, so we got to watch christmas movies in our room on the DVD player and watch the snow fall outside of our window. Very peaceful and relaxing. Only three blocks from the village so we walked to the shops and restauraunts anytime we wanted. A wonderful stay overall!

2 day stay

3,8 sur décembre 03, 2011

Overall was good. The location was perfect for a getaway, innkeepers were very friendly, and the breakfast were awesome. The room was a little bit small but cozy, clean, and well maintained.

3,6 sur décembre 01, 2011

a very rustic and charming B&B. Delightful staff and welcome from the owner. The only downfall being as it was a wooden building quite noisy: you could hear chatter and tv's from neighboring rooms and every footstep from upstairs. Whilst the bed was luxurious the latter didnt make for a goodnight's sleep.

Wheelchair accessability

5 sur novembre 28, 2011

Finding a wheelchair accessible anything in the mountains is tough. This inn offers a fully accessible guest room. We like to rent the Carrage House suite that attaches to the w/c accessible room. You will not find any better hospitality with the best dining in Big Bear. I live this place and look forward to coming back every year.

4 stars all the way

3,6 sur novembre 22, 2011

I was a single traveler and Stan and Thomas made me feel very welcome. The breakfast was wonderful and the perfect way to start a day on the slopes. It was a unique property that I hope to share with others in the future. My only suggestion is that breakfast be served an hour earlier so the option to be on the slopes when they open is available. Thank you for all the gracious hospitality....Signed Texas girl...

Cozy, comfy, homey stay

Just Perfect!!!

4,0 sur novembre 14, 2011

The "love of my life" and I decided to get away and go to Big Bear for the weekend, so we were looking around on the internet for a nice place to stay that was reasonably priced. We came upon the Knickerbocker Mansion website and saw the rooms were exactly what we were looking for! We ended up booking one of the "last minute deals" they offer and got one of the more expensive rooms for a 30% discount- it didn't include breakfast, but we were alright with that. When we arrived that evening, and entered the main house, I knew it was going to be great!!! A nice cozy sitting area with a warm fire going was so inviting. The inn keeper was very friendly and checked us right in. We stayed in the Cedar 4 room, which was in that main house. We walked right up the steps to our cozy cabin-like room!!! It was the perfect weekend get-away and exactly what we wanted!!

Beautiful and Delicious Stay

4,2 sur novembre 12, 2011

This is our second visit to Knickerbocker Mansion. We have thoroughly enjoyed both visits. The innkeepers are friendly and helpful. The food is absolutely delicious and plentiful! We walked into the village and explored the shops and restaurants. I can't wait to visit again.

Loved the views from the penthouse

3,6 sur novembre 10, 2011

We had a great time and spent more time in the room than we had planned due to it's large size and amazing views. It was a short stroll to the village for shopping and the meals that we did not eat at the mansion. We had a great dinner and of course the awesome breakfasts. Thank you gentlemen.

4,4 sur novembre 09, 2011

My partner and I decided to spend my birthday weekend at the Knickerbocker Mansion, where we had dined once before but had never stayed. We reserved the Carriage House Suite, a large and rustic room with its own fireplace and private deck. An unusually early snowfall made our view even more picture-postcard-perfect. Stan and Thomas are delightful, engaging hosts who made us feel like old friends. Dinner at the Bistro on Friday night, and breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, were all excellent. We agreed that next time we will stay longer than two nights. Just delightful -- highly recommended.

Jeff and Shirley's getaway

5 sur novembre 08, 2011

We went for some R & R and that's what we got - in abundance! The weather was lovely for our biking, hiking and sightseeing. The locals couldn't be nicer and the whole town really turns out for Halloween. The Knickerbocker was perfect for our getaway. Stan and Tom run an amazing 5 star establishment. The food was exceptional for a bed and breakfast and the rooms were impeccably clean and inviting. Right down to the welcoming chocolate chip cookies, the in-room fireplace and spa tub, the breathtaking views, hearty conversations, and the 2 standard poodles - Faux Pas and Bijou. We didn't want to leave so we stayed an extra day and even went to an open house! Thanks so much, Stan and Tom. We'll see you again!

Stan is so charming! We can't wait to return! We loved everything about our stay! It was simply magical!

Loved this mountain getaway!

Such a beautiful property, and nestled in the trees. We really enjoyed the peace and quiet while enjoying the private balcony. Very filling breakfast that lasted us all day as we kicked around in town and took a walk on the pedal path by the lake. Thank you, Thomas!

Make sure to eat at the restaurant one night during your stay. Delicious food with a cozy, laid-back atmosphere. We really enjoyed their breakfast as well.

Location!!! Location!!!

2,6 sur octobre 13, 2011

Location is great, we were so close to everything we wanted to go. Our room was small but worked out just fine for us. What was disappointing was the cleanliness in this room. It was just very dusty anywhere I go, seems like the room has not been occupied for so long and no one bothered to do some dusting before our arrival.

A fabulous weekend get-a-way!

4,6 sur octobre 10, 2011

We had a delightful weekend at the Knickerbocker Mansion and were particularly impressed with the food and atmosphere. Each morning we were treated to a scrumptious breakfast and delicious coffee - Sunday morning's French toast concoction was to die for! Saturday evening we chose to dine at the Bistro at the Mansion and from the cream of mushroom soup (the best either of us has ever had - anywhere) to the creme brulee, it was a memorable dining experience.

Off season stay

Our stay at Knickerbocker Mansion was cool and quiet. The breakfasts were very good. Room was small, with no room for a chair. Weather was so nice we managed sit outside alot.

Yes, it's a historic house but...

3,0 sur octobre 02, 2011

Yes, it's a historic home and it's gorgeous. And they put on historic, art-filled programs and it's a fancy restaurant too. However, we stayed in a seperate house set close to the historic mansion and it was very small. It was also called "Lakeview" but we couldn't view the lake from there. And it was decorated in a fishing theme. Fishing! There were fishing rods, no fishing signs and a stuffed fish hung above the bed. OK, quirky. So we went with it. The owners said that Fridaynight's dinner in the house was cancelled because there wasn't enough business so they recommended the Himalayan restaurant in town. We went there and boy, what a great place! Loved it! In the morning, the breakfast was OK but the owners really only wanted to talk about how great the dinner was there and really wanted us to eat there. We didn't when we saw the prices. The owners didn't seem too anxious about chatting or shooting the breeze or getting to know us either. That siad, the main house IS amazing. Gorgeous. And Big Bear is amazing; we love it there and spent most of our time hiking and enjoying nature together. If you want sparkling chit chat from an owner, don't go. And make sure to stay in the main house; not in the "fish room." Ick.

A Worthwhile Experience

3,6 sur septembre 30, 2011

Thomas and Stan provide an excellent get-a-way in a magnificent setting of blue clear skies, majestic trees, likable dogs, and fascinating woodpeckers. The comfortable homey atmosphere was exceeded only by the gourmet satisfying and unique breakfasts. Definitely worth a visit or more.

Beautiful, quiet getaway

4,2 sur septembre 26, 2011

The room was nice, comfotable and suited our needs. The grounds were very well kept. Definitely quiet and convenient location. The breakfast served both days were delicious.

A bit on the dirty side

2,6 sur septembre 23, 2011

I purchased the living social deal for Knickerbocker Mansion. The value for a 2 night stay was great. Thank goodness because if I had to pay full price I wouldn't have been pleased. The rooms were pretty dirty, i.e. dust on the phone and clock radio, Dirt and hair in the shower, the toilet bowl was pretty disgusting. The down comforter duvet was yellow not white. However on a more positive note the breakfast was good the first day and superb the second day. We chatted with the chef about breakfast the second day because we are not into waffles or pancakes. He offered to make something savory. He did not fail, made a wonderful frittata and we had seconds. Hats off to the chef.

Very Unique B&B

3,8 sur septembre 18, 2011

The Knickerbocker was a unique B&B that we really enjoyed. The next time we would definitely make reservations for one of the larger rooms. The breakfasts were absolutely wonderful. We would definitely return.

Great getaway from the city!

4,2 sur septembre 17, 2011

My husband and I purchased a 2 night group-on for a change in pace of always going to ocean resorts. The inn is very nice and spread over quite a large piece of property. The main house, Knickerbocker Mansion, is used for dining, reading, enjoying a fireplace, snacking on cakes, breads and coffee, tea or juice anytime you like, game playing or chatting, eating a gromet breakfast at 9am. Thomas, an owner is a gourmet chef and serves the best breakfasts we have ever had. The service is wonderful. Thomas is so nice and accommodating and also on weekend nights opens for gourmet dinners for everyone not just inn guests. We missed that as we came in mid-week. Our room was quite small, they are called the petite rooms, clean, comfy bed, small television, normal size bathroom, overall clean except for dust, needs a good dusting, clean sheets and towels, daily maid service,no dresser, however, rod for hanging a few clothes, bring more hangers or need to leave clothes in suitcases. So quiet and beautiful at night, really nice place and we will go back, however, will stay in one of their larger suites. For the money we paid we did get a great deal and great service. We will be back, hopefully next time in the winter months instead of summer months. Still very enjoyable!

Great Stay at Knickerbocker Mansion

4,0 sur septembre 13, 2011

It was a great stay at this Bed and Breakfast. The breakfast was truly a gourmet meal and we wish we had had the chance to get a taste of one of those dinners they have on certain days, but unluckily we were there on a Sunday and Monday. It is walking distance to Big Bear Lake and all the restaurants there. All in all a pleasant and relaxing experience.

The thing i love the most was it looks like you are in a area far away from town but it was VERY close to everything!!! So cute!!! we loved everyone that worked there and the gusts where all very nice as well!!! the food well hahahaha was OK the one thing that was amazing was a blue berry tart YUMMY!!! other then that it was OK i loved the hot tea you can have anytime of the day very nice place we will for sure come back cause it was just so cute and fun! Go here you will love it!!!

Second stay a Knickerbocker

5 sur septembre 08, 2011

This was our second visit to Knickerbocker. This is a wonderful B & B in an historic building, beautiful rooms, clean, quiet, and the food is fabulous. The breakfast is always wonderful, and the Bistro, open for dinner on Friday and Saturday, is outstanding. Can't recommend Knickerbocker highly enough.

Our Second Wedding Anniversary

4,0 sur septembre 04, 2011

We were looking for a B&B that could offer a quiet, relaxing and yet romantic atmosphere and we definitely found it at Knickerbocker Mansion. The Penthouse room, we would recommend highly for privacy and also the magnificent views from all four corners of the huge loft. Our dinner at “The Bistro At The Mansion” was delicious and the service was excellent. The only regret that we have to share would be that our stay was not long enough. But, we will be back to celebrate another anniversary at Knickerbocker Mansion for sure!! Mark & Tammy , Huntington Beach CA

Two Days Well Spent

3,6 sur août 26, 2011

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the Knickerbocker Mansion. We would recommend a stay at this charming Bed & Breakfast. It's a wonderful old mansion with a fantastic breakfast.

Our third stay

2,6 sur août 24, 2011

This was our third stay at Knickerbocker. Nice place to visit but noted the rooms are lacking maintainence. The carpet appeared dirty, there were Spider webs as well as cob-webs through out the room as well as dust buildup in all the corners as well as behind the TV stand. I even had a spider run across me the last night there. Being our anniversary weekend I selected a room with a Fireplace. That didn't work either. Our previous 2 trips were very nice and why we returned. I may even be willing to try them one more time. Breakfast was great just don't be late or you miss it.

Knickerbocker Mansion

3,8 sur août 24, 2011

Beautiful bed and breakfast. Breakfast was superb both days. I only wished that it was served over a period of time, say 8 to 9 instead of only at 9 am because we wanted to go to church on Sunday and had to miss it. Very quiet, peaceful stay. Would recommend it to anyone.

Romantic Weekend at the Knickerbocker Mansion

3,6 sur août 13, 2011

Breakfast was extraordinary both mornings! The room was very small (tiny, in fact), but comfortable and cozy. The property was very nice, although needing some TLC (for example, our door wouldn't lock one morning. However, they had maintenance come that day to fix it. The staff was very accommodating! It was a great value and we would for sure stay there again.

Knickerbocker Mansion Inn

3,4 sur août 11, 2011

We liked our stay and it was hospitable. The breakfast menu was a single item served to everyone, not something each person chose for themselves. the presentation of the breakfasts was fancy and elegant -- serveware, drinkware, and friendliness of the server. Our room was a bit smallish, but very clean and well appointed. We liked the guests living room in the mansion and that it was stocked with games, books, a computer and movie media as well as coffee and teas and a cookie jar with goodies. Very homey and welcoming!! the grounds of this Inn are country feeling and woodsy. We loved it and the other guests at the dining area were just the right amount of friendly -- smiles and hellos, but not invasive. Great place to retreat!!

Cozy cabin feel with gourmet dining

3,6 sur août 11, 2011

I stayed here because I bought a coupon deal for a two-night stay with a five-course dinner included. The rooms had a cozy log-cabin feel with all the amenities of home. Great shower/bathtub. Very comfortable bed and pillows. The dinner was so outstanding. My only disappointment was that we didn't have a refridgerator in our room to save the leftovers. The breakfasts were great as well. I liked that the dining is set up like a restaurant and you aren't at a shared table like I hear some B&Bs are like. They really have an awesome chef. The grounds are impeccable and clean. The only disappointment I had was that around midday I had asked the innkeeper if I could possible get some clean sheets. He said housekeeping had already gone home. I said I would put them on myself but he wouldn't budge. I didn't think that was very cool customer service. Also, since it is a bed & breakfast and it's an old house, the rooms are very close to each other and I could hear our neighbors coughing or snoring. Other than that, it was a great stay.

Réponse du propriétaire
In a effort to minimize the impact on the environment and be operating on the "green" side of things, we do not change sheets and bedding everyday. In this case the housekeeper was turned away from her normal service of the room by the guest. Our housekeepers are here during the morning to mid-day and they attempt to get into every room for service. Housekeeping is not here 24-hours. We apologize.

Great Second Stay at the Knickerbocker!

This sweet little b and b offers a quiet hideaway in Big Bear with an excellent restaurant and hospitality that would please the most discerning guests.

Wonderful weekend getaway!

4,6 sur août 09, 2011

What a great stay my girlfriend and I had here! Thomas made us feel like we were at home. And he was the cook! The breakfasts were amazing and the 5 course dinner was memorable. If you are in Big Bear you must check this out on a Friday or Saturday night. The rooms were cozy and clean. It's just a half mile walk into The Village, and we did that numerous times. You're nestled in the forest and it's truly the perfect spot. What a fantastic weekend! Thank you!

Fun weekend

4,0 sur août 04, 2011

this place is's ready for a sprucing up though. it's kinda manly and rustic, which is fine, but still .... new soft comfy sheets would be great, and get rid of the comforters (cuz ewwwww, the thought of any comforter in a hotel/b&b isn't good)! The porch was fantastic to sit out on and look at the lake in the distance! Anyway, it's time for an update ... and the rooms need some brightening up -- dark in there! All in all, a pleasant stay!

I would go there again

Quiet and comfortable, nice surrounding. We had two breakfasts, both were wonderful. Rosie was running the inn while we were there, she was lovely!! Very nice stay.

Nice place

The room was small, but very cozy. The service was excellent and the food delectable. Definitely would recommend this place.

truly a weekend to be remembered

5 sur juillet 18, 2011

expecting an average B&B experience or less, we were in for a major surprise. every aspect of the knickerbocker weekend was superb, beyond enjoyable. we would strongly recommend it to anyone, and absolutely expect to return. we feel the knickerbocker is the only place to stay in big bear.

Knickerbocker for dinner- yes! Rooms- not so much.

3,2 sur juillet 18, 2011

My husband and I bought a deal for this B&B through livingsocial to use for our anniversary. We initially had a problem booking our reservation as it was booked up for every weekend leading up to the expiration date of our deal. They were kind enough to allow us to book on the holiday weekend but we had to pay an upgrade because the rooms included in the deal were not available. Our deal also included a 5 course dinner and breakfast. The meals were outstanding and our server was absolutely wonderful. If it weren't for her delightful personality, our stay wouldn't be worth much mention. Our room didn't have the "ahhhh" affect, but it was adequate. We didn't sleep the 2nd night due to several spiders making their presence known. The 3rd one landing on my eye and both of us jumping off the bed to kill it. There were 3 more after that. I did mention it to the owner when we checked out but he reminded me we were in the mountains, too. Yeah, but I paid over $300 for a room, not a tent.

Cozy and quiet.

4,6 sur juillet 16, 2011

We stayed in one of the smaller rooms (Lakeview 1). We were walking distance from the downtown shops and restaurants. Our room was cozy, quiet, and relaxing. Our hostess was very friendly and the food was excellent! Delicious breakfasts. We would gladly stay here again.

Knickerbocker Inn

4,0 sur juillet 13, 2011

The rooms are small! I don't know how you'd be able to stay during the winter with all your ski gear. For summer they’re just fine, just don’t bring a lot of stuff. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, and no request is too big or too small. The breakfasts are delicious and more than filling; portions are huge. And the Bistro at the Mansion is wonderful; the chef really knows what he’s doing.

Great stay

4,2 sur juillet 10, 2011

Everyone was very nice, the place was very clean and right near the Village, we would stay again for sure!

first visit to Big Bear Lake

2,6 sur juillet 03, 2011

Room was very small and quite warm, especially at night (not good in summer). We will definitely return to Big Bear Lake, but we will stay elsewhere; there are many options there that cost far less

Best Place to Stay in Big Bear!

5 sur juillet 03, 2011

Wow! My wife and I stayed at the Knickerbocker in for our mini-honeymoon and could not have chosen a better place to stay. The room was clean, homey and exactly what we wanted. The staff was super friendly and addressed every need and concern we had. And the food....yum! Even if you don't stay at the Knickerbocker, you absolutely need to go for the food. We definitely intend to go there again in the future1

Great Getaway!

4,0 sur juillet 02, 2011

Great getaway! Warm, cozy, hospitable, and friendly people all around. Knickerbocker Mansion Country Inn was a home away from home, a place to relax and enjoy big bear lake at its finest!

The service was incredibly personal, the staff was VERY nice. The rooms were clean and cute and the food was FABULOUS - and our server at dinner and breakfast was FABULOUS as well!

Jazz Fest weekend

4,0 sur juin 30, 2011

The Knickerbocker was wonderful! Chef Thomas is magnificent - certianly exceeded what I had expected, especially the dinner we had on Friday night. Has to be the best dinner in town! The place is quiet comfortable and in a beautiful location. We were well taken care by a very friendly and helpful staff. We'll be back !

Great Value Excellent Service

4,0 sur juin 29, 2011

Waiters and waitresses were excellent. For breakfast I expected more than one choice, I hate sausage and that wasin the egg dish and could not be picked out although my boyfriend loved it. There was no AC in the room and we picked a weekend in the high 80's, even with the fan going all night and the windows open it was still warm. All in all a great value, the 5 course dinner was amazing, you had 3 salads to choose from, 2 soups to choose, many apps to choose and probably at least 10 main courses to choose and 3 dessert choices.

3,8 sur juin 27, 2011

great location within walking distance to the village. stayed in forest view 2 which was on the small side but served us very well and was quiet. i would say the only issue would be breakfast; food was too sweet for anyone except children. we would stay here again!

Wedding event and stay in one of the rooms

3,6 sur juin 23, 2011

Overall was a great place to hold an event. We had a small wedding on the premises with meal in the dining room. Food was good value and wait staff did an excellent job. The Penthouse suite was suitable for getting ready and wedding night.King size bed is VERY comfortable and you can watch the sunrise from picture window next to it. Breakfast was good, especially the French toast with cinnamon. Nice laid back place to stay.

Knickerbocker Mansion Country Inn

4,4 sur juin 22, 2011

It was a very sweet, bed and breakfast. Our room was above the kitchen (Cedar III), so it was a little noisy and pretty warm. The staff was very friendly! But the food was to die for! The presentation , outstanding and delicious!

Knickerbocker Mansion 6/17-6/19/11

4,4 sur juin 22, 2011

My husband and I arrived at 9:30 at night and Rosie was waiting for us with our key and a quick tour of the property. What a charming place. Our room was in the main house, second floor (Cedar I) which included a wonderful, comfy queen bed, cable TV and large bathroom. We took advantage of the complimentary fresh cookies and cake that are always available along with coffee, tea and sodas. Saturday morning we had 9:30 reservations for breakfast and sat by the window with a beautiful view of the mountains and lake. Our set menu included orange juice, coffee, fresh fruit and a delicious Chili cheese quiche. Yummy! We went out for the day and took a tour of the Big Bear area. Stopped by the Discovery Center to learn about the history of the area. It was a hot afternoon so we returned back to the Knickerbocker and sat on the 2nd floor covered balcony, played Scrabble, drank wine and took advantage of the goodies downstairs. Our 7:30 dinner was highlighted by a beautiful colored sunset. Our 5 course dinner included soup, salad, appetizer, main course and dessert with a bottle of wine. Thomas is a wonderful chef. Another lovely breakfast Sunday morning. We were sorry to have to leave but off to more adventures. It certainly was nice having Road 330 open making it an easy drive home.

The perfect, romantic get away!

4,8 sur juin 22, 2011

We loved our stay and felt comfortable and welcomed by all of the staff. The dinner and breakfasts were superb and enjoying a glass of wine on the deck watching the sunrises and sunsets completed the experience. Thank you for a perfect weekend.

2,6 sur juin 22, 2011

We didn't have a strongly positive or negative experience there. I had hoped for a more welcoming atmosphere than we received and I was disspointed to hear Thomas, one of the innkeepers, arguing with other patrons about their meal experience and another staff member talking to guests about how awful some people are. They also incorrectly booked our reservation and made a point of telling me all of the hoops they had to jump through to fix it as if they were doing me a favor when it was their error. There was defensive atmosphere from the staff, but the accomodations were adequate. Fantastic location and beautiful terrace with lake views.

Holly and Dennis

3,8 sur juin 20, 2011

We really enjoyed our time together at the mansion. It was the perfect little getaway and the location and property was beautiful. We really liked how there were hiking trails very close by and the innkeepers were very helpful. The entire trip accommodated to our needs and the constant availability of coffee, teas, and other beverages and sweets was a wonderful touch.

4,2 sur juin 17, 2011

There wasn't any klenex in the bath, but other than that, it was fine. Dining was terrific.

What a fabulous visit

4,4 sur juin 16, 2011

We used the living social deal and discovered a treasure. I expected log cabin quality and was prepared to "rough" it but in fact felt that we got boutique hotel quality. The rooms are better than the photos, the personal touches made it feel like a B&B where the owners care about your experience. The bed was OK but i would not have wanted to spend a week sleeping on it. The location and the property itself were great and we thought the owners were friendly. The 5 course meal was superb - the chef really knows how to cook lamb. And the recommendation for the Himalayan restaurant for curry was excellent - very fresh flavors. We thought that Big Bear was gorgeous and very relaxing and the B&B was ideally placed to enjoy the area. Lake views are a bit of a stretch more of a glimmer through the trees but the property had the peace and tranquility of being in the trees in the mountains. Overall exceeded my expectations and I would definitely recommend

Great visit, some details to improve

3,6 sur juin 15, 2011

The vibe was a little too casual, as others have said, amateurish, although all the female staff I encountered were very helpful. I was disappointed that coffee wasn't made available in the common rooms until after 8am. The food was exceptional, but heavy. It would make a big difference if they created a summer menu as well as a winter one. That said, the rooms are very nice, rustic but with modern amenities. Ours didn't have AC, but ceiling fans were sufficient. The bed was soft and comfortable. We used a coupon, and the value was good. I would have been disappointed, if I had paid full price.

Restful & Romantic

4,0 sur mai 30, 2011

My husband and I needed a few days to reconnect after traveling in different directions, the Inn provided the perfect atmosphere and setting for walking around, holding hands, and just spending time together. We loved it!

Great LivingSocial Deal

3,8 sur mai 25, 2011

Overall the LivingSocial Deal was a great value, although the room selections were the smallest they had to offer. And they were the very smallest rooms I've ever stayed in. The windows were very low (A-framed converted carriage house, go figure!) and the carpet very stained, but didn't feel dirty. The Inn Keeper and service staff were all very friendly and the Chef is amazing. Other than the carpet in our room, the dining rooms and our bathroom were exceptionally clean.

Weekend visit

3,0 sur mai 22, 2011

We stayed here with a half-price coupon, and as such it was a very good value. But the room was tiny! (Fortunately, the weather was great and we were outdoors most of the time. We did the half-price dinner on Friday night as well, and even at half price, the food was disappointing. Breakfast, on the other hand was delicious both days; the innkeeper and wait staff were friendly and accommodating, and the wireless in the room was great.

Great Mountain Getaway

4,0 sur mai 22, 2011

We have been traveling to this bed and breakfast for multiple years and continue to be impressed with the staff and location. I would definitely recommend this Inn!

The Best place to stay in Big Bear.

5 sur mai 21, 2011

If you're going to Big Bear Lake, consider Knickerbocker Mansion as a great alternative to a traditional hotel or cabin rental. My room was really lovely with a private bath, lake views and access to the wonderful upstairs porch. All within easy walking distance to the center of town. With absolutely the BEST breakfasts ever.

A Wonderful Surprise

4,2 sur mai 19, 2011

This was my 1st time at a B&B and as a city girl who knows what she wants, how and when she wants it, I was very happy with our weekend. Who knew that Big Bear was the cornerstone of upscale dining? I had no idea the food would be so go, and the service was right in line with the quality. I even asked for a side of the sauce that was on my fiancé’s plate and the chef made me a single serving. The rooms were cute, what I’d expect from a B&B, but as soon as I got into the bed it was like being at the Weston with their heavenly beds. The shower was a pleasant surprise too. So between the long showers and the long naps, we had a very romantic and relaxing weekend. The innkeeper Stanley was funny with his quick wit and very helpful with information about the village. I will definitely be going back in the winter so I can see some snow.

What an anniversary!

4,6 sur mai 11, 2011

We spent our 10 year anniversary at the Knickerbocker Mansion & the only negative was that we couldn't stay longer. So peaceful, such a cozy place... wonderful hosts & exquisite food -- we hope to spend our next anniversary in the penthouse!

A disaster

1,4 sur mai 11, 2011

When we arrived for a much needed getaway we were greated with the owner telling breakfast was served precisely at 9:00 - not one minute before or after. Not a very relaxing way to begin. He then told us we could not eat dinner that eveningbecause we were "another" Living Social - as if it was a disease. When he gave in "if" we could be seated at 7:30. The waiter then told us we had a spacial menu and not to look at the regular one because we were Living Social - in a very loud voice. The bed was uncomfortable and there were cobwebs everywhere in the room. It was definitely NOT relaxing and I would not recommend it.

Réponse du propriétaire
I am terribly sorry these folks took my comments in the wrong way. We have had a great experience with Living Social guests and have welcomed them to our inn. We do serve breakfast promptly at 9AM which a is pre fixe....and I do tease folks about the time, so they don't come to breakfast and have cold bad food. We want them to have fresh hot food, which is prepared for serving at that time. Depending on prior dinner reservations and staff on duty we have to limit reservations for dinner. These folks arrived late in the afternoon and wanted to have their dinner that evening without a prior reservation, which is good idea. I ask them if they would mind booking the 2nd night when were not so busy and could better serve them. We did work them in as the last reservation for the evening. The Living Social dinner is a 5-course menu and is very special, with a wide choice of menu items. Service is, normally 1.5 to 2 hours for the dinner and we don't want to rush people through. It should be a special experience and we work hard to make it so. Cob webs. We are always on CW patrol, but we do realize that it is part of living in the mountains. We can only apologize and hope that you will give us a try.

Wonderful Stay!

Would definitely return! Forest View II

4,0 sur mai 03, 2011

Forest View II for my Birthday! My wife planned this trip and we were so pleased with the acommodations. Everything was just as we expected! No surprises and we had a wonderful stay. This is not a luxury suite, but very comfortable and nicely appointed with TV, VCR, great bathroom (hot shower and bath, hair dryer, etc.) Breakfasts were over-the-top and the staff was absolutely wonderful. Several great restaurants are very close, prices range from very modest to slightly pricey. We tried Peppercorn and El Jacalito. We enjoyed both. Check out the others for us, we didn't have time to. We couldn't ask for more... easy to get to, hard to leave... Best lazy days I've had! You'll enjoy... Thanks Stan and Thomas!

Romantic Getaway

3,6 sur mai 03, 2011

The Knickerbocker Inn was very quiet. Our visit was mid-week, and off season, so only a few other guests were there. Breakfast was gourmet quality each morning. The Innkeeper was very pleasant and helpful. The Inn is located within a block of The Village with many shopping and dining choices. We're already planning our next getaway.

Very cozy and home-like atmosphere. A great value through Living- Social. My husband and I upgraded our room to the Cedar 1 room in the main house and were not disapppointed. Great location and very clean. The innkeepers did seem a little short on patience over the phone, but generally they were friendly in person. The breakfasts and dinner was very good .

We absolutely loved staying at the Knickerbocker!!! The people are fabulous!! The food is phenominal, we have never had a better dinner!!!!! I could not have imagined a better honeymoon!!!!! Thanks for the wonderful memories!!!! We will definitely be back!!!!!

Stay away from this one.

1,2 sur avril 16, 2011

As several people have mentioned, the owners are rather snotty. It makes one wonder why they chose this as their business. Though there was snow on the ground, the owners did not clear the pathways to the rooms that were up the hill. Definitely a lawsuit waiting to happen. The rooms that are not part of the lodge are very small. We stayed in the Lakeview I room with the fishing motif. This meant lots of fishing knick knacks that apparently never get dusted. a The bed was not comfortable and the carpet was disgustingly filthy. No surprise since even though there was snow on the ground there was no entry mat outside or inside the entry door.

Réponse du propriétaire
The winter has taken it's toll on the carpets in these small exterior entrance rooms this year. Spring is here and they are being refurbished one by one, including replacement of bedding. We apologize.

Initially put off...

3,6 sur avril 06, 2011

The two times I spoke to the owners before going up there filled me with dread about this place. They were both totally condescending and unhelpful and kept referring me to the website (I spoke to one and then the other on the next call). Well sometimes people aren't actually in front of a computer and would like information and as the owners, it's your job to just suck it up and talk to your customers and lose the attitude - you want business, right? So I was pretty sure I would hate this place and actually considered canceling my reservation and losing the Living Social deal all together. I finally sucked it up and we went. It was pretty - your classic lodge style and furnishings. Cozy with a nice common room and gorgeous enclosed dining patio. Our room was warm and the bed was super comfy with nice bedding. The upstairs deck was great. The staff (including the one owner we met) were nice enough but not what I would call welcoming. I sort of expect a welcoming vibe from a B and B, but it had more of a bored hotel staff vibe within a classic B and B look. And the food ran the gamut from okay (breakfast eggs overcooked, unappealing yogurt "soup") to kick ass (tuna dinner entree, desserts). Hard to say since my impressions range from 1 stars to 4 stars but I don't think I would pay full price to return.

Best time in a long time!!!

4,4 sur avril 04, 2011

My stay at the Knickerbocker Mansion was really fantastic. I could be a little biased, because my boyfriend actually proposed to me after we checked in and from since that point, I was in heaven. LOL But, aside from that, I know I was fully aware, and our stay was perfect. We had a Living Social Deal that was too good to pass up. The 5-course meal was excellent. The staff was really nice, friendly, gave us good directions and advice. The weekend we went, a snowstorm hit and we were not prepared! Those... Southern Californians...LOL! In the morning, our door was covered with at least 3 ft of snow and the groundspeople shoveled us out. I thought, wow, they really really pay attention and care for their guests. Breakfast each morning was great. I really like the mansion. It's really beautiful and sits in a really great location, a few minutes walk from town. The rooms were really nice and cozy. The only thing I didn't like was staying in a room not attached to the main cabin, however my fiance was fine with it. I guess I just like to be in the center of things, easy access to the cookies, hot chocolate, DVDs, games, etc...LOL, now I know my preference. I would definitely go back. We both loved it!

3,6 sur mars 30, 2011

Wonderful atmosphere, amazing room (we were in the Penthouse) and lots of amenities in that room. Friendly staff and the food was nice, although service was a little amateurish. Food was nice, but a little expensive for what it was. If you want a wonderful romantic break in the mountains, I'd say go!

Breakfast is served but there are no options and you just have to eat what is provided. All i got was small cup of fruits and blueberry waffles (which was extremely superb, best waffle i have ever tasted till date). You need to have a heavy breakfast just 2 items on breakfast along with coffee/juice doesnt sound good.

Great weekend getaway!

Quaint and Cozy Rustic Mansion

4,2 sur mars 19, 2011

We found out about Knickerbocker through Livingsocial where we purchased vouchers for a great discount. Overall, the inn and service exceeded our expectations. It was a beautiful property with great views and it's also in a great location! It's within walking distance to shops and restaurants and a very short drive to the lake. The mansion felt very homey and cozy. The rooms were a bit smaller than expected but we had plenty of space. THe owner, Thomas, made sure to make us feel welcome. Overall, we had a great time! Thank you, Knickerbocker. We will be returning shortly!

3,2 sur mars 18, 2011

I bought my stay on the Living Social website so i got a half off deal. If I had to pay full price I would not stay there because i think that they charge too much. I also didn't like how they had a hidden $60 fee we had to pay after we booked our stay I think it should have all been included in the upfront price. The food was very good and the cook and server in the restaurant were very pleasant.

Great b&b - would definitely go again!

3,8 sur mars 16, 2011

Lovely, rustic but more than comfortable inn, beautiful setting, nice folks, fantastic food - a winner!

Just like Grandma's house :)

3,0 sur mars 15, 2011

Stayed here on a Thursday and Friday night. The inn was not overcrowded so it was nice to sit on the upstairs terrace and have a glass of wine. The rooms where very cozy and the little gas fireplace made it very inviting. We stayed in Cedar III and it was nice. The dinner Friday night was the highlight. We did the 5 course meal.....which was amazing but entirely too much food! I was ready to unbutton my pants after the 3rd course and we decided to have dessert in the room so we could digest and enjoy. They have a lovely little hot beverage area that was available 24-7 that had coffee, tea, hot cocoa and cookies, which was a nice touch. Thomas was super nice and accommodating. We will be back for another relaxing weekend :)

A nice escape

3,4 sur mars 14, 2011

Bought a package through Living Social, and was somewhat disappointed with the availability online. The availability calendar made it look as if the place was booked up, but it was only us and another couple there both nights. Otherwise, it is a beautiful place walking distance to the main road. The decor is charming. The views from the patio were breathtaking.

A great place to stay when visiting Big Bear

3,6 sur mars 12, 2011

BF & I went to Big Bear. We decided to stay overnight, do the Living Social deal. It was a snowy winter night when we arrived dropping about 2 feet plus to 4 feet. We tracked all through our small less than 400 sf (?) room as there wasn't anything outside our door to wipe our boots. So then the rug was wet, so I got down and scrubbed the rug dry the first night. The 2nd night I decided to let it stay wet. We bought a bottle of wine with us and it was delicious to enjoy it playing board games in front of a fireplace (gas in rooms, logs in main lodge). The 2nd night they never cleaned or changed out wine glasses so they were still dirty. The lighting over the closet 'space' is nonexistent. It's like an alcove but no door and no lights to see what you are doing. The inn keepers do take a lot of pride in their place. Thomas an Stan were great. The rooms are small but have everything you need basically (except light in closet area). Our door opened in the middle of the night but the gas fireplace kept us warm. The food was good. I did love all the fruit items they brought us, especially the mint covered grapefruit? Fabulous! Both breakfasts were something with sausage and I thought it was over kill. They keep a chocolate cake around at night if you get munchies, available to snack on as well as teas & coffees gratis. Because we got 50% off and the breakfasts were included, I thought it was worth what we paid. I dont know if I would pay a whole lot more as the room was a tad small for 2 but it worked. I loved their towels, very absorbent!! I didnt think much of the amenities, just basic. It wasn't like some places you go and you want to buy the product cause you loved it so much! Overall, a good stay and I would recommend it. Im a bit on the cheap side and for regular rooms, 140+ a night was much but for a whole weekend, what a great deal! Oh, also, the cookies by the bed were fabulous but they only give them to you the first night :(

Great experience! Would go back.

4,0 sur mars 09, 2011

Beautiful cabin (stayed in Cedar I)! Thomas the chef and co-owner was very friendly and sweet and allowed us to check in early which really made my trip (room happened to be ready). Friendly staff. Stan, the other co-owner provided quick replies to all my questions. Very tasty and healthy breakfast! Warm, comfy, cozy room. Great location. Would go back!

Nice little B&B

4,0 sur mars 04, 2011

We stayed in one of the lesser expensive rooms which are kinda small, but we had seen the photos and it was what we expected. People could go sledding right there as there's a nice hill behind the building. Breakfasts were good. You can have access to the common area at any time and there's hot drinks and snacks provided. Lots of movies to choose from if you don't bring any.

Nice B and B, but too expensive

2,6 sur mars 01, 2011

Staying in a Bed and Breakfast costs more than other places, typically, but what you gain is amazing food and a wonderful atmosphere created by the owners. The breakfasts here, though hearty, were not special, and the third day was a repeat of our first day's breakfast. The maid was also not very well-trained, meaning that she kept interrupting us before check-out and never did our room one day. Our needs were met, but our room was either very hot or very cold, which made it difficult to sleep. The mansion is lovely with interesting pictures, books, and antiques. The grounds are also beautiful. The breakfasts and service could use improvement.

This is a nice, cozy spot. Our room was a bit small, but it was very quaint. It is ideally located within walking distance of the village which is nice. The staff (Thomas and the waitress) were very friendly. Breakfast was good, but if you're a picky person, you may not like the fact that you basically get whatever they choose to serve that morning. I would recommend staying here, for an affordable place with some decent amenities.

If weathering a cold winter evening next to a fireplace with hot tea isn't enough just sink into the tub and turn on the jets. ;-) We have stayed here twice now. Both times during a winter storm. They are very attentive to making sure the parking lot and walkways are clean. Interesting breakfast. The village area is within walking distance which is nice if you're staying during the warmer season. I have and still will recommend this place.

KnickerBoxer Inn

2,6 sur février 25, 2011

The place was cozy and nice although the person at the main cabin was not very helpful! Complained when we called at night to ask for shampoo- which was lacking in the room- and just seemed overall not very helpful. The room was cozy but the heating system was not in the room, so it was either really hot or cold. Value wise its a great place in a great location.

A Great Weekend GetAway

4,0 sur février 23, 2011

My boyfriend and I really needed a quiet getaway from the city, and we found it at the Knickerbocker Inn. The rooms were small but cozy, they had wine glasses, a fireplace, they even provided little water bottles. The breakfast was delcious, the first morning we had baked bananas with orange marmalade and almond slivers, and blueberry french toast with sausages, orange juice and tea or coffe, the second morning we had baked apples with cranberries, a chile cheese casserole type thing and tequitos. they also had cake and cookies out during the day, with your choice of coffe, tea, hot cocoa. and we had the 5 course dinner, the lamb chops were amazing!!!! so was everything else. We enjoyed the beauty of the Knickerbocker mansion in the wonderful snow. It was a wonderful weekend get away.

We Loved it!

We had such a great visit at the Knickerbocker and got very lucky with snow both days we were there. We celebrated our anniversary- The food was amazing, 5 course dinner at the Bistro and a daily two course breakfast! The staff and Innkeepers (Stan and Thomas) were very nice and friendly. I would love to make this a yearly tradition to celebrate our anniversary. Highly reccomend the Knickerbocker.

Quaint breakfast and inn

4,0 sur février 19, 2011

This place was a LivingSocial deal and quite affordable with the deal. The free breakfast made by one of the innkeepers was so delicious. Both owners were extremely nice and even funny. The Forest View 1 room was small, but cozy in a romantic way. The worse thing was the bed - so uncomfortable. If the owners were to invest in cushy mattress pads, it would make a world of difference.

Wonderful and cozy experience

3,8 sur février 15, 2011

The room was very clean and accomodating. It was cozy with a faux fireplace (electric) that heated us up perfectly and a ceiling fan to cool us down when we were hot. Gourmet homemade powdered mint chocolates by the bedside upon check-in was a welcoming touch. The bathrooms had plush towels and were plentiful. The beds were ultra comfy with down comforters and pillows. The breakfast was delicious every morning and service was friendly. We had everything we needed during our 2 night stay: internet access, a library of DVDs, coffee/tea/snack access 24/7, and a very convenient location to the village and the mountain. My only criticisms are that they did not wash our wine glasses for us to use the 2nd night, the housekeeper walked in on us an hour before check out without knocking while we were still asleep, no ottoman to put your feet up while relaxing in the chairs, manager brings dogs in at 7am when he arrives every day and they bark and woke us up both mornings.

Big Bear Getaway

3,6 sur février 14, 2011

The room was clean and cozy and breakfast was delicious. The location couldn't be much better just blocks from both mountain resorts. The staff was friendly for breakfast after check-in though very rude on the phone when trying to organize arrival times. Also, it would be nice if breakfast was earlier than 9am since the lifts open at 8am.

Weekend Getaway

The grounds were very clean and easy to navigate. The rooms were very small but had everything that we needed during our stay. The breakfast was nice and was better than expected. The common areas had a cozy feeling and the kitchen amenities were available 24/7.

Cozy Little get away

3,4 sur février 09, 2011

Nice cozy feel, friendly staff, beautiful setting and perfect location. My first bed and breakfast experience was a hit. We stayed in the main house which was very nice, only loud at night - just bring ear plugs and you'll be ok. The Bistro was an amazing little surpirse, excellent food!

My ski vacation

4,0 sur février 08, 2011

We arived a little early and were accomidated .The staff is very nice and attentive . The breakfast was good ,The atmosphere was very relaxing and quiet, awsome classical music was playing down by the fire place .There was lots of books and magazines to read as well as free movies to bring to your room . It was like crashing in a very cool hunting cabin ,I would do it again .

5 sur février 08, 2011

My Knickerbocker experience completed my perfect mini vacation. Upon arriving, my boyfriend and I were greeted by Thomas, very welcoming and hospitable owner, and given a tour of the main house. There was an instant homey feel and we felt very comfortable. Thomas always has goodies and hot tea and there are games, wifi, a fireplace, a cozy living room, all open for the guests. Our room was very intimate and perfect!! There was even chocolates when we arrived. The homemade breakfast was amazing, too. Overall, I would have been completely happy spending the entire trip at the Knickerbocker mansion :)

Knickerbocker Mansion in Big Bear gets an 'A'

4,4 sur février 06, 2011

The room was cozy and clean, the breakfast was fabulous and the hosts were very accomodating. The mansion common area featured comfortable furniture and a blazing fireplace. Coffee, tea, and hot cocoa were available all day and cakes and cookies were there for snacking. About the only suggestion I could make to improve the room stay would be a light weight blanket on the bed. The down comforter, while luxurious, is heavy and hot, even on a cold night. I have already recommended the Knickerbocker to friends and would definitely stay there again.

Great Stay Interesting Cuisine

4,4 sur février 06, 2011

I feel the Chef tried to produce creative dishes without executing them well. Overall the hosts were wonderful, the room spectacular and I would definitely stay there again.

A pleasant surprise

This was my first time staying at a BnB and I didn't know what to expects. It was like staying at our parents house. Super cozy and welcoming. The host we great and the rooms were so comfortable. We'll definitely be back. Thank you!

Staying at the Knickerbocker Mansion was great. Rooms were cozy and clean, and service was great. Felt like home!

An excellent getaway!

3,2 sur janvier 30, 2011

I secured a room through a LivingSocial deal and headed up to Big Bear with my girlfriend. The room was better than expected. Very cozy, very warm and had that sort of home-style feeling that helps with the ambiance of Big Bear. The main innkeeper Stanley was very kind and accessible. His partner is a chef, so the food they served was very good. I would recommend this place for anyone looking for a nice place in Big Bear with good accommodations. Would love to have stayed longer than just a weekend. Will definitely condiser this place again if/when I return to Big Bear!

Good Bed and Breakfast

3,6 sur janvier 27, 2011

Beautiful place, lovely grounds, rooms were clean and comfortable. Staff was nice and friendly. Dining was only available at set times which was a little difficult to coordinate with skiing or other activities, but very good food. Good overall experience.

Weekend at Knickerbocker Mansion

4,2 sur janvier 27, 2011

This was a delightful weekend. The location of the Inn as well as the ambience of it were really terrific. We liked our room very much except had a slight problem with too much heat that we couldn't control. The Innkeeper was charming and interesting and the waitress in the dining room was very accommodating and nice. Our only complaint was the breakfast. It was rather mediocre. Finally resorted to oatmeal which was very good. We would, however, definitely choose this inn for another stay in the future.

Quick vacation from the city

3,6 sur janvier 26, 2011

Wonderful location, beautiful surroundings - very pleasant stay. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed the ambiance and our stay at the Knickerbocker. I imagine that we will return again for another getaway.

Knickerbocker Mansion

3,0 sur janvier 26, 2011

Because of our planned activities, we were only able to attend one breakfast sitting. It was a delicious breakfast and we received very good service. The room was exactly as presented in the photograph. I very much enjoyed our 2 night stay, but if it weren't for the 50% discount voucher we applied to our visit, it would have been to expensive for us. I do wish the driveway were cleared of ice so that we could have parked closer to our room, but this may not have been possible.

Great Deal and Comfort

4,2 sur janvier 26, 2011

Very comfortable stay with a wonderful value. The innkeeper is pleasant without being too much more accommodating then needed.

Great Bed & Breakfast

4,4 sur janvier 21, 2011

Inkeeper and staff were very friendly. Room and facilities were clean and attractive. The property was beautiful- a very old mansion and outbuildings converted to a bed & breakfast. The gormet breakfast was truely gormet. I highly recommend this property.

Great getaway

4,0 sur janvier 18, 2011

The Knickerbocker Mansion Inn was great. Haven't stayed at a place like this before, but we loved it. Went on Thursday to Saturday. Not too busy. Snow all around, beautiful. Minutes away from the Village in Big Bear. The grounds were beautiful, esp. with the snow. Stanley and Thomas were great. Stanley, the Innkeeper, always made sure we were doing well. Very homey feeling. The food was exceptional. Not your typical breakfast, and dinner, fantastic! Loved it, and would go again (hopefully with another living social deal)... made it more affordable.

It was nice to get away but I don't think we would go again

3,0 sur janvier 16, 2011

As previously stated, I really wish there was a 2 1/2 stars. All I can say about the inn keeper is that he is typical European. A little rough around the edges, but you can tell he means well. I can see how some could have really great experiences, but if you get on his bad side at all, I can also see how he would go off on you. For us, he was super nice and friendly once we arrived. When I called in to check on how to make reservations, however, he proceeded to talk to me like he did not have time for me, he was too busy dealing with upset customers on the other line. I kind of laughed. I think he might just be extra frustrated from all of the coupon guests through living social deals. The mansion is pretty cool, very eclectically decorated. The previous owners had it a little bit more classy. (yes, I also stayed there when I was 8 with my parents). My husband and I stayed in cedar I. It was pretty clean (not totally dusted nor was the shower door track clean at all). The room was warm which was nice. ROOM COMPLAINTS: You can hear everything from the other rooms. Soft talking, the TV, everything. Bring ear plugs in case you have people who want to stay up ALL NIGHT next to you like we did. The worst part, the bed was horrendous. We got the worst sleep. Both of us woke up with sore backs. It needs to be replaced badly. The toilet handle broke in the middle of the night. They replaced it first thing when we told them though. GOOD STUFF: Loved the breakfast, and Nancy as everyone else has said. Would I stay again? Probably not. Unless we got another really good deal, and were aware that the mattresses had been replaced.

Very close to town

3,4 sur janvier 14, 2011

It's in a great location- basically walking distance from the main restaurants and shopping in Big Bear...however the service wasn't outstanding but I tend to judge service harshly. We did find a pair of underwear under our bed....gross. But the rest of the room was clean- nothing to write home about. If you can get a good deal to stay there, do it. But don't expect super service and something fancy. But totally in a great spot!

Penthouse Suite

3,4 sur janvier 13, 2011

We stayed in the Penthouse Suite. It was a very nice and comfortable room. Room service wasn't that good. The head chef was gone so we couldn't eat at the Bistro, which was a disappointment. But the stay was really perfect actually. Great location, just a walk away from the village. I would love to stay there again.

Knickerbocker stay in the new year

4,0 sur janvier 07, 2011

When looking at the Knickerbocker's website, we were excited to book. Mainly because we had never stayed at a bed and breakfast before, and because there was a living social deal. But once we arrived, we were happily surprised by the surroundings, the mansion and our room. The Knickerbocker needs a new website because it does quite a poor job of accurately displaying the beauty of the estate. Our room was much nicer than expected and the breakfast area was quaint with cheery service. We loved our stay at the Knickerbocker and would highly recommend it.

Charming rooms with great attention to detail.

4,4 sur janvier 03, 2011

We weren’t able to stay long but my wife and I can’t wait to go back. Stanley really made us feel welcomed during our short visit and really added a personal touch to this charming bed and breakfast. The rooms were just wonderfully authentic with cedar walls and a great four post bed. The lobby was decorated so beautifully for Christmas and it just made our stay that more wonderful. We can’t wait to go back!

Christmas at the Knickerbocker

4,4 sur décembre 29, 2010

We spent 4 days at the Knickerbocker and had a wonderful time. Breakfast was served every morning promptly at 830am and our suite was adorned with Christmas decor that our 3 year old loved. Stan was a gracious host and was very accomodating to our needs. I would recommend that if you are going to stay in Big Bear, stay at the Knickerbocker and enjoy the experience!

We had a wonderful time at the inn. The staff were so gracious (especially Nancy, a real treasure). Thanks Stan for a lovely weekend treat!

Wonderful Stay

We had an absolutely wonderful time at the Knickbocker Inn during our stay over Thanksgiving weekend. It's a charming, cozy, warm and romantic place. Food was outstanding, including a delightful Thanksgiving feast. Service is great, warm, sincere. Stanley and his staff are very helpful and made us feel most welcome. I recommend Kinckerbocker to anyone, and we will return. Thanks to Stanley & his staff for a magical visit.

What a Delight!

4,8 sur décembre 05, 2010

My girlfriend and I stumbled upon Knickerbocker Mansion through a Living Social promotion, only to find out that Knickerbocker is a long-standing favorite among many in the Los Angeles area - and for good reasons. The environment was beautiful, the location terrific, but most of all, the service was impeccable. We felt welcomed from the moment we walked in the door and it was evident how good Stanley and Thomas are to their team as they are kind, dedicated and lively. Stanley clearly loves people and provides each of his guests a special experience. Of course, our review would be incomplete if we didn't mention Thomas' astounding culinary talents. His years in Joachim Splichal's kitchen were evident in every meal; on a number of occasions (in our short two-night stay), we wished we could be dinner regulars...if only the Knickerbocker was down the street from West Hollywood! We will be back - for the Osso Bucco, the hospitality and the loving tales of life on the road with Neil Diamond! Jenny & Candie

best B&B!

5 sur décembre 05, 2010

We were in the penthouse and it was the most comfortable room I have ever stayed in! The bed was extremely comfortable and the wood burning stove kept it toasty warm. The view is spectacular from every angle. During breakfast you will be served by a dear lady that treats you better then your mom - she won't let you leave until you are satisfied and filled up. We will be going back often.

winter stay

3,6 sur novembre 30, 2010

The common rooms are fabulous and cozy. We stayed in Cedar I which was quite comfortable with nice linens on the bed. The bathroom is just average but everything is very clean. Our breakfasts were delicious and there is always fresh rich coffee and home made chocolate chip cookies. I admit that I am an orange juice snob and the oj was from concentrate. Too close to LA to not have fresh oranges. Stan and Thomas were wonderfully hospitable and we will look forward to a return visit.

Best Getaway in the Mountains Ever

5 sur novembre 25, 2010

The rustic nature is elegant while natural, the food is beyond delicious, breakfast and dinner, the service is like a homecoming, Stan makes you feel welcome and as though you have been missed since your last visit. The Carriage house is our favorite but the rooms in the mansion are romantic!

A top pick...

4,6 sur novembre 25, 2010

Our host was extremely personable and attentive to making sure we had an enjoyable and comfortable stay. The bedroom was cozy and provided everything for our satisfaction. The setting is peaceful with views of tree tops and mountains overlooking the village afar. I especially loved the living room with all the neat artifacts and photo's and relaxing on the comfy sofa in front of the wood-burning fireplace. If you enjoy a tasty strong cup of coffee in the morning with cream you may want to hit the local Starbucks. I'm big on coffee in the morning and it was too weak and the only cream offered was a non-fat cream. I need the fat in the cream for it to taste like cream. The TV in our room was a Panasonic TV and had a very tingy sound to it which doesn't work well when you wear hearing aids and I don't think it provided closed caption which I needed. However the TV does have a DVD player, I wish I had known before, and would have brought some movies. So bring some if you love to just lay in bed and watch movies. I would definitely stay here again. The rack of lamb was out of this world and the chocolate bread pudding was the best I've ever had. My husband and I may just make staying at Knickerbocker once a year a tradition. We'll just bring along our movies, coffee and cream. Other than those minor details this is a 5 star.

great place...

3,6 sur novembre 24, 2010

Knickerbocker is a great place to stay. Paid a lot more than I expected upon my arrival. Was charged a change fee because I switched from one weekend to the next, within hours of booking the room. Otherwise it was a nice get away for the wife and I...even got to watch Cujo :)

Loved the place!! Service was so warm and friendly

4,8 sur novembre 24, 2010

It was an incredible experience. The owners are so friendly and helpful. The 5 course dinner was amazing. The breakfast was the best ever!! It's a nice cozy place to go and relax.

Autumn Anniversary Weekend at Big Bear, CA (Oct 2010)

4,8 sur novembre 03, 2010

First visit to Big Bear. Autumn is not the area's busy season, so we enjoyed a very quiet, peaceful mountain weekend. The Knickerbocker Mansion Country Inn is a quaint, rustic getaway nestled in the mountains. The Inn has a restaurant, The Bistro, which serves the best food (fine dining) we've eaten in CA in 10 months. Staff, Thomas & Nancy & Chef Robert, were all warm & welcoming. The lake is half mile straight down the road. The "Village" is about as far. Easy driving to anything on the Lake (we hiked; shopped; saw a movie; enjoyed a beer at a local bar; played cards while sitting in the parlor, sipping a glass of wine.) The ski lift tram was closed, but that would've enjoyed the scenery -- actually, the ride home to L.A. was spectacular, as well. (We drove in via Rt 18; left via Rt 38.) I highly recommend The Knickerbocker for a lovely getaway!!

Worth the trip with the coupon

3,2 sur octobre 21, 2010

Overall, it was a pleasant stay and we were happy. That being said, the bed was pretty uncomfortable, there was a mattress pad that seemed very concave which made it hard to sleep on a level section of the bed that wasn't right in the middle --a bit of a challenge for two people to both do. Breakfast was pretty good, but they had a bunch of fresh baked goods that looked enitcing but were never even offered for sale. Per Trip advisor comments, Thomas is a bit snarky, and Stan is a delight! I asked for the cream sauce on the side of my raviolli at dinner and he seemed so turned off and barked that it wouldn't be as good. Well, duh, cream makes it taste better but upsets my stomach and the only other choices for apps I had was shrimp & calimari --which I can't eat. There were so many entree choices, I wish there were a few more appetizer options. Our waiter for dinner seemed like this was his first job waiting tables and had no idea about most of the menu items. I only mention this b/c the restaurant is touted as fine dining, and he was not a fine dining waiter. Waitress busted her butt for breakfast and was super helpful in planning our day. Free wifi, movies, books and games nice touch. We felt it was a great value with the coupon we had but if we had paid much more, we might not have been real happy. Would possibly return if we knew the bed service would be level.

Wonderful Fall Get-away

4,4 sur octobre 18, 2010

At the last minute booked a trip to Big Bear Lake. The Inn fulfilled my image of a mountain lake atmosphere from the log cabin style mansion to the decks overlooking the fantastic views. I was able to make a short pleasant walk to the Village for meals, shopping and a movie. Stan is a delight and wonderful host. I will be back!

Can I move in?

5 sur octobre 10, 2010

This is a wonderful B&B no matter your reason for being in the mountains. You'll wish you'd had more time to read your book outside on the balcony.

Beautiful Inn in Perfect Location

4,4 sur octobre 06, 2010

We purchased a coupon through Living and got a great deal for 2 nights at the Inn, with 2 breakfast meals, and a 5 course dinner. The rooms are small but adorable and very clean. The waitstaff at dinner made you feel very important and the food was delicious! It has a perfect location as it is a block from the main street in the Village and behind it there is a hiking path that leads to Snow Summit. The Innkeepers are very sweet but be forewarned that they are very strict regarding times. You need to check in before 10pm or you are charged $25, and after midnight is $50. Also make sure if you are going to breakfast or dinner be sure to be on time. Overall a wonderful experience.

weekend get away

4,4 sur octobre 06, 2010

We went to the Knickerbocker Mansion for a romantic weekend get-away, apparently we weren't the only ones. The room was great and staff is super friendly. Stan and Nancy took extra time to show us around big bear. It is kind of expensive. The two night minium sucks. We waited for the last minute special to open up and got a 30% discount plus we could stay one night. All in all, an enjoyable experience and I would definitely go back.

My Weekend at the Knickerbock Mansion

4,2 sur octobre 05, 2010

This was my first visit to a B&B and it was absolutely delightful. The room we had was smallish, my only disappointment, but there were larger ones to upgrade to. Our room was completely remodeled with a flat screen tv and was set off away from the road and more into the forest, literally a 50 yards from miles and miles of hiking. The food, and the service around it, was incomparable. Truly a gourmets delight. I would highly recommend this B&B.

Lovely Weekend in Big Bear

4,4 sur septembre 29, 2010

My boyfriend and I stayed here this past weekend and loved the place. We found a room including dinner as part of a deal on Living Social. It was a great place to stay! We were greeted by Thomas, shown our room and were able to choose our breakfast time and asked about any dietary restrictions. We stayed in Cedar II in the main mansion. The room was quaint and cabin-y in all the good ways. My only complaint was a relatively lumpy bed. The bathroom was spacious and everything was well appointed. Observe the tasty mint truffles on the bed before you crash for the night. The mansion is located very close to the main Village, totally within walking distance. Breakfast on Saturday was two eggs sunny side up with bacon sprinkled on top and a fruit salad of plums, apples and peaches. Fantastic! Dinner Saturday night was a 5 course affair including a fresh spring mix salad with walnut/cranberry vinaigrette, an appetizer (I had the portabello ravioli and she had the sauteed shrimp), main course of a petite filet Mignon and fresh veggies and steak fries and a dessert (I had the chocolate/peanut butter lava cake and she had the creme brulee). Everything was fantastic and worth it. The view out the dining room windows was lovely and romantic. Breakfast on our second day was french toast and bacon with a fruit salad. Extremely tasty and filling. Don our waiter was accommodating and friendly ready to help us plan our day. I wholeheartedly recommend the Knickerbocker for a romantic getaway.

We would go back - one of the best accommodations at Big Bear

3,6 sur septembre 26, 2010

Very central for all other facilities in the area.

Home away from home

4,2 sur septembre 26, 2010

My husband and I were looking for a place to celebrate our 2 year anniversary when I saw the Living Social deal for the knickerbocker mansion. With a 5 course dinner and a bottle of wine included in the 2 night stay deal, we couldn't pass it up! Upon our arrival Thomas (one of the innkeepers and the head chef) checked us in and was very friendly and accommodating. Luckily for us we arrived on a Thursday so we had the whole Inn and town of Big Bear to ourselves! It was great! We stayed in the Forest View I room and it was very small, but had a quaint, rustic feel to it. We had a hard time sleeping but it was mostly because of the dry air of being in 7,000+ feet elevation. Friday morning we got the opportunity to meet the other innkeepers, Stan and Nancy. Great people! They were very welcoming and talked to us during breakfast. We felt like we were home! They also helped us decide what activities we should do during our stay & made our 5 course dinner reservations. Dinner was GREAT! Chef Thomas is an excellent cook and we highly recommend to at least eat here if you don't stay here! We had the mushroom ravioli and fried calamari appetizers. The fried calamari was the best we've had! Then we had the fillet mignon and the salmon entrees, both very good. Barely had room for dessert, the lava cake and creme brulee - yum! Breakfast was served on Saturday morning again - so good! First breakfast was waffles with raspberries & bacon and then sunny side up eggs with bacon and english muffins. They ask you when you check in if you have dietary restrictions but my husband and I have none. We had a great time and were sad to leave! Great service, food, and very friendly staff. For our first time in Big Bear, we wouldn't have done it any other way!

Big Bear find

4,2 sur septembre 25, 2010

Had a "Living Social" discount voucher so it was a major bargain. The staff was incredibly welcoming, the location is great, the five course dinner is amazingly priced at $65 (even without the voucher). Only two things I can think to criticize. We stayed in the Carriage House Suite (downstairs) and could hear basic human activity like showering through our ceiling pretty easily. Also, the housekeeper didn't return when we asked for late morning service. All in all, I would recommend it highly even at regular pricing.

Wonderful stay, thank you!

4,8 sur septembre 19, 2010

We went on a weekday and were the only ones at the inn, but the staff was friendly, attentive, and helped us settle in comfortably. Our stay was excellent, the food was great, the location was convenient, and we had an overall wonderful time. Thanks!!

Not all that

2,0 sur septembre 13, 2010

There was nothing special, for the price, about this Inn. We probably could have found a much better/nicer place for less money. Stan, one of the owners, is very rude and condescending. Very unprofessional. Won't stay here again.

4,4 sur septembre 12, 2010

What a rare delight! This quaint B&B exceeded our expectations and delivered far more than expected. We arrived Friday evening and were warmly greeted by Thomas and Stanley, who made us feel welcome, special and like good friends they were happy to see. Our room, while called "small" by the staff itself, was lovely. Very clean and filled with all the amenities. We've stayed in 5 Star hotels around the world, but were delighted by the abundance of hot water and the robust water pressure in the shower - a real surprise in a B&B. Breakfast both mornings was excellent, especially the blueberry French toast. But the best part of our stay was the incredible dinner and the exemplary service. Our meal was truly one of the finest dinners we've had in quite a long time. From the creamy mushroom soup, the exquisite shrimp in lobster sauce, the surprise of a lemon and tarragon granita and the MASSIVE Osso Buco that fell of the bone. The warmth and friendliness of the owners and their staff was delightful. Our servers made us feel like we were in an old friend's home and truly made us want to come back again to see them all. I can't speak highly enough of the Knickerbocker and its staff. Plus... it's in beautiful Big Bear Lake. The gorgeous surroundings complemented this delightful B&B. I will return and recommend the Knickerbocker to all my friends. Thanks to ALL!

lovely place for a weekend

4,2 sur septembre 09, 2010

We recently stayed here with our three-year-old son. Our room, the penthouse, was so lovely that we had a hard time leaving in the morning! The staff went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable. The inn is even more charming than the pictures show. Definitely a great place to stay!

B&B Review

3,4 sur septembre 07, 2010

I read some bad reviews before going but surprisingly, I had a pretty enjoyable stay. The dinner we had at the mansion was excellent and the service was great. The only thing was that our AC did not work so the first night, it was really hard to sleep. The second night, we turned on the ceiling fan and opened the window but the ceiling fan made a constant humming noise so it was still a bit hard to sleep.

Réponse du propriétaire
Thanks for the comments. I wish we knew what room these guests occupied, so that we could specifically check it out, but we are checking all of the large ceiling fans in each room for unusual noise that might disturb sleeping. We had a week or so of very warm weather at night, which is quite unusual.and as with most places in Big Bear, we do not have AC installed anywhere on the property.

Great place to get away!

Innkeepers Stanley and Thomas were outstanding, as was Nancy. Very helpful, friendly and attentive. The Penthouse Suite was very spacious, the bathroom was just beautiful and the outside patio deck made for a perfect romantic & private outdoor setting. However, the value for the room itself ($240/night) was far more than what I would ever pay again. The technology (TV, CD player, computer) were very outdated and below my expectations. The food was fantastic, especially dessert! It was nice having the opportunity to try some new dishes I wouldn't ordinarily order off the menu. I would recommend this B & B to anyone wanting to get away for a peaceful, relaxing, undisturbed weekend away from the busy city life.

As always, we appreciate everyones comments. It helps us do a better job for our guests. We are delighted that these guests enjoyed their stay with us and we look forward to their return stay with us. They booked as part of of promotional deal that included a 5-course menu in our Bistro. They also upgraded to this suite from a standard room. It is interesting that they should comment on the technology, while we do not have high def flat screen TV's in all of the rooms, this room has two TV's (one a 35-inch Sony) DVD, VCR, CD Player and most unusual a MAC computer on the desk with high speed internet access. We also have WiFi in all rooms at no charge, if you bring your own computer. By most local standards for a suite like this we are underpriced by nearly $100 per night. We are replacing TV's one by one in our guest rooms.

Every B&B Should be so Great!

Everything at Knickerbocker was so much more than what we expected. Thomas and Stan were so welcoming and we felt at home the instant we arrived. The breakfast was very fresh and delicious. One night we also ate dinner in their bistro, and the five course dinner was delicious from start to finish. One of my favorite features was that the inn is back from the main road a bit, and backs right up to a hiking trail that leads to Snow Summit, with even more hiking. We didn't even have to get in our car for a full day of activities. However, it is just one block over from the main street in town with restaurants, candy shops, and so much more. We will definitely be back, as I truly believe this is the best place to stay in Big Bear Lake. I can't say enough about how wonderful a place this is to vacation and get away.

Upon arrival we were greeted by Stan and his witty sense of humor. It was time to get away and my husband and I were celebrating our anniversary. We were in forest view IV which was perfect. The room was quiet and personal, just what was needed. We found ourselves out each day either in the village, on the beach, or just driving around. Everything is just close enough to the location. The weather was perfect. Both my husband and I agreed we will definitely have another stay at the Knickbocker Mansion Inn. Oh yeah, even if you can't stay at the Inn you have to go in for dinner, the food is absolutely fabulous and the service ain't too bad either. A wonderful place to get away to if you need some refreshing me time or alone time with that special someone.

Nice place to stay

the room was small but nice. beautiful setting. great cake out every night. our only problem was the size of the breakfast. every day it was on the small side. you'd think being located in the moutains where people will be hiking or skiing the breakfast would be hearty. it was good--there was just not enough.

Just What We Needed

Our anniversary stay at the Knickerbocker B&B was just the retreat we needed from our busy life full of work, kids, and commitments. The quiet, warm atmosphere, idyllic nature environment and accommodating staff made our weekend perfect.

A great place to stay in Big Bear Lake

My wife and I have stayed here several times and have always enjoyed it. Close to the village but quiet and peaceful. Dinner at the bistro, open for dinner on Friday or Saturday night, is not to be missed. The inn keepers are great hosts. Just ask and you shall receive. A great place for an enjoyable weekend for a couple or several days for a group retreat.

We work hard to make every guests experience an outstanding one and we appreciate when a guest says so. Thomas, partner owner and executive chef, strives for excellence and directs our really wonderful sous chef and kitchen staff. Most inns do not have a restaurant and that is what really distinguishes us from a normal B&B. Thank you for your kind comments about our inn and Bistro at the Mansion. STAN

Save Your Money

According to Inn Keeper Stan, this is an "Inn" and not a "B & B". It should not be, therefore, listed on this site. The comfortable living room and den area are not open to guests to enjoy their own bottle of wine or snacks. Stan says the law mandates he charge you an $18 corkage fee or you must enjoy your wine in your small room upstairs, away from the restaurant guests. The living room is, he says, licensed as the restaurant and while it looks like a living room and cozy den, it isn't that at all. Breakfast this morning was a cold waffle with warm syrup and 2 link sausages with a nice warm fruit compote. Yesterday breakfast was excellent. At $170 per night, it is way overpriced, the rooms are tiny, dark, the mattress leans to the middle and fire is not allowed in the living room fireplace unless Stan wants it, apparently (we asked and received a polite "no".) The focus is apparently in creating a higher-end dining experience for non-Inn guests and the hospitality to overnight guests has suffered as a result. The morning hostess/waitress, however, was delightful!

Thanks for the comments. They are always helpful and we take them seriously. This is a country inn because we have a restaurant open to the public. We do include a full gourmet breakfast for residing guests. Our operating permit is for a B&B in a residential area of the city. We do have an ABC beer wine license and the entire public area of the inn is licensed. When the restaurant is open, we cannot allow food or spirits to be brought into the area. If a person brings a bottle of wine into the area it must be corked and we do charge a corkage charge. Open bottles and glasses cannot be moved from non licensed areas (guest rooms) to licensed areas. While I think the laws are a little silly, we must abide by them in order to keep our license in good standing. Our little bar area was available for ordering wine and snacks. Fireplace: Has an insert which is used to help heat the house in the winter. There are two other open fireplaces in the dinning rooms that are used during dinner service. Rooms: We take great pride in the cedar wood original paneling in these historic guest rooms and they are dark. This is 1st complaint about the mattress which has a fluffy hypoallergenic topper that not everyone likes. We have replaced the mattress with a new more firm type. These guests did not try the Bistro (restaurant) which is reputed to be the best gourmet dinning in the area. We hope they will return.

Best Getaway in a long time!

I just wanted to write this for future guests if they are considering a stay at the knickerbocker. Last weekend we stayed in the carriage house suite and it was wonderful. The suite is comfortable and quiet. Our requests were always answered quickly. The free breakfast (blueberry frenchtoast) was to die for! It was the perfect weekend getaway. I know times are tough, but if you can afford it the Knickerbocker cannot be beat! Thank you again!!!!!

Stayed in the Petite Room, was very small. No place to sit except bed. Closet was in corner, rod, no door, only two hangers on rod. Airy with two windows and door with screen, and ceiling fan It was adequate. Shower was excellent, good water power and rain-like shower head. Lots of big fluffy towels was nice. Breakfast was outstanding and service was fantastic (Nancy) provided all info needed about things to see and do nearby. Was disappointed that dinner is not served past 7:30 on Saturday. Missed it without knowing. Make reservations next time to ensure, we were told later. Provisions of non-alcoholic drinks and snack/desserts were wonderful too. Perhaps staying in the main house instead of the carriage house might be better. Grounds and parking are spacious. Friendliness by the owners could be better.

One night stay on the way to Santa Monica.
