Although the hosts Myles and Matt were extremely hospitable and helpful, this is definitely not meet the expectations of the typical B&B. It's more like being a house guest of strangers. The place is their townhome style residence. Your room is a spare/guest room in their home. It was clean and tidy, however not at all what one expects when thinking of staying at a B&B. The full breakfast was more like: instant oatmeal, kuerig coffee, a mini fridge with OJ, ice coffee, yogurt, strawberries, hard boiled eggs etc. there was dry cereal. 2 days Myles set out scones baked homemade. Then the hosts prepared their own cooked breakfast and ate with you on a couple of occasions.

Fantastic views of SF. Our Hosts were attentive to all details of our stay. On arrival we were given an information pack which we continued to use until we were leaving. Myles's home cooked breakfast treats were delicious. Only downside and it is a positive criticism is their is no housekeeping.

Matthew and Myles were wonderful hosts and the view is spectacular. The baked goods each morning were wonderful (especially the blackberry muffins and apricot Danish). They gave great directions and recommendations and directed us to the nearby Bart station where we could park our car for only $3 per day and ride the Bart into the city. They also recommended the best places to catch the cable cars without waiting in the long lines. We definitely will stay at Summit House on our next visit. -Steven and Ken

Matt and Myles were very helpful in sharing the sights of San Fran and how to get there. They directed us to great restaurants and places to avoid at certain times! Make sure you have a map, as it is off the beaten path, but not too hard to get to. Thanks for your hospitality and personal touch! Deanna & Heidi.

Summit House is a delightful private home accommodation in a quiet neighborhood in south San Francisco, a few miles east of Fort Funston. The hosts are very friendly and helpful with an obvious love for their city and for hosting. Home made Continental Breakfasts were delicious-home made baked goods, many extra toppings for oatmeal are offered. Very comfortable bed and bath, and a pool table in the living room. Free parking (easy on the streets in this quiet neighborhood)and free internet make this a great value if you have a car. While not in the center of the action, most activities are only a short car drive away and the access to 280 is very close. We did not use public transport, but it seemed that might be a little bit more hassle. The view is spectacular when the fog lifts.

We spent five nights at Summit House and were extremely pleased with our stay. The negative draw is the parking situation. Summit House is located at the top of a hill (most streets in this area are very hilly, to the point of almost on a vertical at times), and there is no parking lot, or designated parking spots for guests. Now, the positive feedback. The view is absolutely gorgeous!! Matt and Myles are wonderful hosts, and Myles is quite the cook. He prepared fresh-baked scones one morning, and on another morning he made a blackberry cobbler with fresh blackberries from his little garden. A nice assortment of dried fruits, nuts, and jam was available, along with juice, yogurt, milk, and coffee. The room is very cozy and the bed comfortable. The Bay Area Rapid Transit is only about a five-ten minute drive from Summit House. Definitely a better way to enjoy the area than fighting SF traffic, especially in the tourist areas. We could not have asked for better hosts, nor a more wonderful time at such a nice bed and breakfast. It was fabulous!! Dennis and Tina Landes Fort Worth, TX

This was a nice place so lovely decorated with all kind of great stuff, they had a German Kuckucksuhr !(we are Germans and even have no one) Myles and Matthew gave us an awesome stay. They told us some places to watch out we couldn´t find as a tourist. Even our next trip Highway 1 to L.A. they told us some nice places to watch out. Thank you for the scone recipe, our luggage get lost so i didn´t get the chance to cook them until now. If we ever come back to San Francisco we would like to stay there again!

My boyfriend and I recently stayed at the Summit House in San Francisco. Coming from the rather flat-landscaped Toronto to the hilly escape of San Francisco was an experience on its own, but Matt and Myles, the consumate hosts were so friendly and informative we felt right at home. Stunning views of SF and a lovely breakfast in the morning. A little piece away from the action of downtown(BART is nearby), but it was a lovely drive along the beachfront and an introduction to the hilltop. Would absolutely recommend to anyone with a car at their disposal and enjoys great service and accommodations with a view. Thanks again!

My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful weekend get away at Miles & Matthew's SF Summit House B&B. The room and bath were clean, comfortable and nicely decorated. The home is spacious and inviting, Our hosts were delightful company and made us feel welcome- providing us with great information about how to get around the city and some must see viewing options. Breakfast offered several yummy choices in a nice buffet presentation. We drove to the nearby BART station and from there ventured off to AT&T park and Pier 39 (Fog Harbor was a great dinner spot). Our only regret wasn't that we hadn't planned to stay longer.

We had a fantastic four-day stay at Summit House to cap a whirlwind three-week tour of the USA. This top-notch B&B sits on top of a huge hill giving views over San Francisco and the bay which are simply breathtaking. We stayed in the Summit House King room and it was spacious, beautifully decorated and boasted a brilliant bed. We had our own attached private bathroom. Myles and Matthew were first-class from start to finish. They couldn't have been friendlier, more helpful or better company! We all got along like a house on fire as they opened up their sumptious home to a couple of Brit strangers. We helped ourselves to delicious food and drink laid on for breakfast and left the house set up for the day. We were initially worried that we might be a bit too far out of town. But Balboa Park subway station is just a short walk away and the train will whisk you into the heart of San Francisco in just 10 minutes. Take our advice - if you're heading to this sensational Californian city then climb to the top of the mountain - and grab yourselves a room at Summit House. You'll never regret it! Really loved this place -- stayed with my Grandmother, brother and sister-in-law, nephew, wife and two kids and we all fit comfortably. Most of our activities were spent out and about -- easy because of the great location in the heart of the Castro neighborhood -- but when we needed to nap or have breakfast or just hang out, we were comfortable and relaxed in this well-appointed but kid friendly home. We have family nearby and plan to continue using the Castro guest house whenever we find our way out west. Thanks to Myles and co. for a great home away from home!

My friends and I spent 4 nights at the SF Castro Guest Accommodations. Myles welcoming was warmth and friendly. The house was spacious enough for our party of eight and, even if the kitchen was a tiny bit smaller than expected, it allowed us to gather at night in the nicest way possible! We really felt at home during our stay.

My husband and I spent two great days at the Summit House B and B, in the midst of a 9 day trip up down the coast to Monterey and Carmel, and up to Napa/Sonoma and the seashore. The time we spent in San Francisco was just wonderful! Matt and Myles are terrific hosts - welcoming and friendly but unobtrusive and relaxed. The room was spotless, food was excellent (all of the comments below about Myles' scones are spot on, they were fantastic!). The advice they gave us on logistics, what to see, where to eat, plus history of San Francisco and areas around were fantastic. We were there at the same time as the America's Cup races - they gave us tips on what to see and how to get there that would avoid the crowds - the kind of insider knowledge that can make or break a travel experience. And the view! You truly are on top of the city in this home. Out our bedroom window we could see the bay - out the living room window was the most stunning view of the Pacific. Incredible! This was such a different - and much better - experience than staying at some cookie cutter hotel. Wonderful place, wonderful hosts. By all means, stay here when you're in San Francisco.

My husband and myself stayed with Myles and Matt for five nights at the start of our first ever visit to California. They were wonderful hosts - so friendly and helpful. They picked us up from the station when we arrived, and made sure we had all the information we needed to really get the best out of our time in San Francisco. Our room was lovely and comfortable, and full of interesting pictures, books etc. I loved the huge Wizard of Oz wall hanging. Breakfasts offered plenty of choice, and one day Myles baked fresh scones for us, which he served with his homemade blackberry jam - the best scones I've ever tasted. Wonderful views from the house, but VERY steep climb up the hill to get those views - you do need to be reasonably fit if you're planning on walking to and from the station, but once you get to the station access downtown is quick and easy, and there are buses you can get from closer to the house without that climb. All in all, a wonderful place to stay - very comfortable with great hosts, and definitely much nicer than a bland chain hotel.

We spent one week as the only guests at Summit House. Myles and Matthew are wonderful persons. Everyday, Myles prepared a delicious surprise for us at the breakfast. Once, it was a pie of raspberries picked from the house garden. While we eat the breakfast, Matthew researched in maps, internet and in the newspapers, tips to orient us in ours tours and inform us the local news, making us to feel as local persons. It was friendly chats at the sound of very good jazz (they knew that we like this kind of music). To be a host of people that take care of you is totally different of be a hotel guest. We left San Francisco driving to LA through Hwy 1 at the cost. We did a stop at Morro Bay, a very nice town, indication of Myles and Matthew. We feel that we left friends at San Francisco. My wife and I recently stayed for 4 days at the Summit House on our honeymoon and enjoyed our stay immensely. Matthew and Myles are very welcoming and helpful with directions to sites in the city. They have an incredible knowledge of places to go, restaurants in the city and can give history and many areas of SF. Myles is also a very proficient baker who has great scones and pastries with breakfast. Book with confidence and enjoy yourself at Summit house. I will recommend this B+B to all!!!

Myles and Matthew are the quintessential great hosts of the B&B world: from arrival to departure, I was made to feel that I was more of a personal guest at their home of SF Summit House! My room was very clean and orderly and the bathroom, complement the latter. It was nice to be able to leave my toiletries on the vanity for easy access later that evening or next day. I always felt that my privacy was never compromised and also felt that I could go into the living room area and strike up conversation with the hosts. I was given great directions (and provided with a map) to get to the Bart station at Balboa in order to get into downtown SF! If you can request it of Myles (which I'm sure you could), you must ask him to make his breakfast scones...OUT OF THIS WORLD!! The only word of advise that I have as far as finding SF Summit House is that you need to keep hugging right on Summit Ave in order to find 310 on the right hand side. It's fantastically situated, though. You have a pretty impressive view of the city below! Well done, Myles and Matt!! Keep it up! You guys are awesome!

We had a very pleasant stay in a very comfortable location. We left our hosts feeling we had stayed with friends rather than in a B&B. Every thing was excellent. The hosts went out of our way to make us comfortable. I have to say the location is a bit of a walk to the BARt system. The walk back up the hill is not recommended. Our hosts were generous with rides to compensate and there is a frequent bus from BART terminal to one block from their house. We have one suggestion. Bring a compass and warm cloths. You will be staying truly on a summit. That means constant wind but with beautiful views. The minute you step out the door you lose track of direction with all roads leading away from the summit. You will enjoy this visit..

This place was a real find, and Myles and Matthew are the best hosts I experienced on my recent trip to the USA. I felt really welcome and cared for; travelling as a woman on her own. They sent me detailed instructions on how to get to their B&B and helped me plan my sightseeing and dining - even printing out maps, etc. The location is "high on a hill" so very peaceful, with a short commute via BART to the city centre. Thanks guys!

We found this online and thought we would give it a go. Of course we had a car and so the location was fine and there was loads of free street parking. The view in all directions is awesome. It's like staying in a SF eclectic museum, but that everything there is designed to add to the guests SF experience. After weeks of traveling it was the first place where we felt we could really relax, made easy by the friendly hospitality of Matthew and Myles. They went the extra mile by making great suggestions on eating spots, things to see and transport options. There we so many things that we would not have discovered if it wasn't for them sitting with us at the breakfast table going over the map. Strongly recommended. We'll be back!

My persistence paid off as I diligently searched for overnight accommodations in San Francisco that would be comfortable, provide easy access from the freeway, be in a lovely location, and offer exceptional amenities without taxing our budget. I located the SF Summit House displaying one exquisitely decorated room on the web site. Immediately I called and spoke to Myles hoping that my husband and I would strike it lucky and the evening we required, May 7th 2012, would be available. It was and all arrangements and directions were promptly confirmed. On arrival, we were awed by the beauty of the location atop Merced Heights. Off in the distance we could see the Pacific Ocean, Mount Tamalpais, and San Francisco Bay. Our hosts, Matthew and Myles, greeted us warmly on our late evening arrival. They helped us with our luggage and offered us beverages and snacks while we settled into our lovely room. The Summit House is tastefully and exquisitely furnished with eclectic and fascinating art objects, furnishings, books, memorabilia, and collector items. We relaxed in the large front room on comfy couches watching through the bay window the fog roll in eclipsing the last of the sunlight. It was both relaxing and romantic, a gorgeous setting. We elected to eat out at a nearby Italian restaurant and on our return we talked for ages with our hosts who are an assiduous source of information and fascinating, intelligent conversation. Our queen bed with the lovely soft pillows beckoned and we drifted off to sleep with a cool breeze coming in the through the open window. In the morning we enjoyed our continental breakfast in the charming breakfast room and were overwhelmed by the choices provided: hot and cold cereals, fruit, yogurt, bagels, cream cheese, jellies, orange and apple juice, coffee and tea. What a wonderful stay and ideal hosts! Arona and Jim Henderson- Blaine, WA 98230
