Of all the B & B's my husband and I have enjoyed over the past two decades--from Scotland to Tasmania--the Kern River Inn is our very favorite. The well-appointed rooms are bright and clean yet ever so comfortable. The spa shower and over-sized bed add to the sense of luxury and being pampered. The surroundings are quiet, yet interesting with the Kern River just across the street and a delightful small town full of interesting shops within a short walking distance. The Innkeeper Virginia McLaughlin is what makes it all work so wonderfully. She welcomes us home like dear old friends and provides delicious, innovative breakfasts among the tastiest we have had anywhere in the world. In our estimation this B & B rates among the best to be found anywhere and we highly recommend it. (Although it is not inexpensive, it is an excellent value.)

A great little gem of a place in the middle of nowhere, right next to a raging river. How nice. Virginia and her animals met us at the door when we arrived and we always felt welcome and comfortable. The breakfast was fresh, delicious, and well prepared. I am fully confident to recommend this terrific B&B. We also enjoyed meeting new friends, David and Margaret, and Mike and Trudy. Thanks for the lead on those Lilies! They were breathtaking!

My husband and I have just returned from 23 days in the USA. Because some roads in Yosemite were still blocked with snow we found ourselves unable to travel to Mammoth Lakes, so we had to find another route to Death Valley and somewhere else to stay. I used the B&B website to search for accommodation near Lake Isabella and discovered the Kern River B&B. We were fortunate that Virginia had a room for us and when we arrived we realised we had discovered a little gem Virginia was lovely, full of helpful advice and she sorted out our evening dinner reservation at a local restaurant. The B&B was delightful, our room was lovely and breakfast next morning was lovely. There had been no mention of WiFi on the website and we were wondering if we would be able to keep in touch with the family while we were there. We needn't have worried, Virginia did indeed have WiFi and hadn't thought that anywhere wouldn't be providing that service these days. Which is I suppose why she doesn't mention it on her website. Our stay with her exceeded our expectations and I think it was fantastic value for money. I'd stay there again anytime. Margaret & Dave Parton - England

The location of this charming b&b is right across the street from a park on the Kern River. It has a great front porch where I spent a lot of time reading and relaxing. At night the lanterns from a campground across the river shone in the dark. And I was able to walk to the small town, which has a lot of antique stores! The room I had was beautiful and cozy and very comfortable, with a large bathroom and a fireplace. Virginia is delightful and the food absolutely yummy! I will be sure to return.

The small cottage we stayed in was perfect. It had a kitchenerte with stove, fridge and microwave. The room was very clean. They even had a tempurpedic mattress which was the most incredible thing I've slept on. The morning breakfast was great as well: freshly made cinnamon French toast, shredded mushroom potatoes, and freshly baked banana bread amongst other goodies. The location was great as it was only 20 min to lake isabella and about 1 hr to the sequoias (which are amazing). I would highly recommend this place.

This was the first stop on our multi-day vacation to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary and it set the tone for a wonderful time. The Inn was bright and cheerful and our Innkeeper, Virginia, was a great hostess! She even had recommendations for us as to where to eat, what to do, etc. She does have pets, but they are all friendly and well-behaved - made it feel like home even more. Her breakfasts are excellent - not run of the mill, but something she starts the night before. Such a wonderful place to stay that the two of us are going back at Christmas. Thanks Virginia! -- Barbara and Len

We stayed here 3 times during 2006 and each visit was a delight. Virginia is a wonderful hostess and her breakfasts are splendid. We felt so at home during each visit and will definitely return in 2007. We really enjoyed sitting on the front porch in the twilight listening to the river flowing right across the street.
