Very nice bed and Breakfast near to the centre of Victoria BC. Ve really enjoyed the stay here.

We enjoyed our stay here...the only problem we had was the quality of the "budget room". Compared to the other rooms in the house, it definitely was below even average. However, location was great..walking distance to waterfront and downtown and Chinatown and the castle. There is a bus stop about one half a block away for those who cannot walk or to use in case of rain. Bus depot a ten minute walk away. Parliament buildings five minutes away and free tours available.

This B&B has an excellent location. The rooms are on 3 levels of the house. My room was located on the main floor and this was not a good location. There was fumes from the kitchen and with people coming and going all the time, there is little quiet time.

We had stayed at this beautiful home during a March weekend. We stayed in the honeymoon suite. Outfitted with an incredibly comfy queen size pillar style post bed and jacuzzi tub which we made good use of. It being rainy and cold all weekend, we really had a hard time wanting to leave the warm bed and cozy room. I guess the room was a little too nice, as we, unfortunately, missed breakfast all three mornings. I would stay here again.

We spent two nights in Victoria at Marketa's and enjoyed our stay immensely. Walking distance from the ferry terminal and easy walking distance to the main avenues, Marketa provided a lovely, clean, and welcoming b&b. The breakfast was yummy with ample options for all. The freshly baked muffins were a hit! Thank you, Marketa, for making our stay an enjoyable one.

My wife and I stayed at Marketa's for two nights for a little Valentines Day getaway. It was walking distance from the ferry terminal and downtown area. The overall experience was wonderful. The staff is friendly, the building is a charming victorian house, and the rooms follow suit. The breakfast was the best part- it was excellent both mornings we were there. Our only complaint is that our mattress was old and needed replacing, which was minor compared to everything else.

We really enjoyed our stay at Marketa's Bed and Breakfast. Upon arrival, we were given a tour of this beautiful character house, which included a TV room (located on the main floor) with comfy couches, a fireplace, books to read and a nice selection of DVD's. The whole place had Edwardian décor, hard wood floors throughout and was beautifully accented with lots of interesting works of art. Our room (the Honeymoon suite on the 2nd floor) had a large beautiful hand-painted four poster bed, a Jacuzzi and a fireplace. Since it was Valentines Day we were treated to heart shaped balloons, candles, rose petals sprinkled on the bed and a bottle of complimentary bubbly chilled on ice and heart shaped candies which were on a tray placed at the bottom of the bed. The room, while small, was clean, cozy and very romantic. At first we thought we were the only guest there as the noise level from the other guests was non existent. Marketa and her staff were very helpful and friendly. Ironically, although we definitely felt like we were away from home, Marketa also made us feel very much at home. The next morning breakfast was incredible. Marketa offered a selection of choices from the breakfast menu and I would definitely recommend the Eggs Benedict served with fresh fruit (absolutely delicious). I give Marketa’s Bed an Breakfast 5 stars and would definitely stay there again.

Lovely of Marketa to check us in early. She also was very helpful with local information and directions. Breakfast was beautifully presented and tasty. Great recommendation for a local hotel for a value and tasty dinner - think it was called the Mast Head or Mast Hotel? Lots to see and do around. Particularly enjoyed the bug zoo, but in hindsight wouldn't have worried about visiting the miniature museum.

We are a fairly newly married couple and looking for a romantic weekend away after a few busy months at work. The rooms were great, and the honeymoon suites even had jacuzzi tubs. The food was great, and there was plenty of selection every morning. The B&B is located just a few blocks from downtown and the main harbour. We had an amazing visit and would definitely recommend this. We hope to visit again soon!

This facility was close to all amenities, so no car needed. The food was excellent, the property is old but I do think the smell was a bit off putting. I did find an old stain on my sheet so I was a little uncomfortable with that, plus I think all the linen should be white.
Réponse du propriétaire
Dear guest, thank you for your comments. We honestly wish that you brought it to our attention that there was a problem with your sheet and we would have had dealt with the issue. As for white sheets we follow the latest research. Here is what Dr, Oz. have to say: If you sleep on white sheets, you could be sabotaging your sleep. The whiteness reflects the light, which stops the production of melatonin, the hormone responsible for regulating sleep. Sleep on sheets that are orange, yellow, red and black. Stay away from white as well as blue or green.

If you are mold-sensitive, and staying in the rainy months, request an upstairs room. We were on the basement/ground level and found our room a little musty. There was no telephone in the room; perhaps everyone is assumed to have a cell phone these days. The location is excellent, and the facilities (including a sitting room for guests and the use of a kitchen) are very good. The breakfasts were good, but not memorable.

My boyfriend and I had never been to a bed and breakfast before, and when we read the reviews online, we decided on Marketa's. Initially, I was a bit unsure as I had only stayed in hotels on vacation trips, but I am so happy that we gave it a try. Everything more than exceeded our expectations. The breakfast was delicious, the staff were wonderful and accommodating, our room was stunning and incredibly comfortable and it felt like a home away from home. It was a wonderful experience and I would stay here again for sure.

Marketa is friendly and highly organized. Her upstairs rooms are Victorian with the upgrade of a jacuzzi. Parking is easy both in back and on the street, which is tree-lined and pleasant. Her location is perfect for walking to the jetty and to Fisherman's Wharf, which is attractive and classy compared to San Francisco's. She offers a menu for breakfast, which is fast and very good.
4,2 sur septembre 26, 2013
Marketa has converted her 100 year old house in to a friendly B & B that is superb value. Walking distance to city centre, bus station, harbour etc. The rooms have emphasis on comfort rather than plastic modernity. Marketa's breakfasts are a wonder in themselves; unlikely that any hotel would provide that kind of quality.

Perfect location, amazing atmosphere and tasty breakfast! We have visited Victoria this September and we did love every bit of it. Markeras B&B has perfect location, just few blocks away from great sea, floating village, fish and chips and all the adventures you can imagine, whale, bear watching, kayaking etc. we have a small dog and the room we had was on main floor. It was clean, stylish and just perfect for our wee stay. And then breakfast!!! Amazing menu so you can choose what tou fancy that morning, great patio and the best was that you sgare the tables so we have met very nice couple and shared our experiences from this beautiful city. Marketas B&B is must to stay!!! Thank you!!! ,

The delicious eggs benny and smoked salmon bagel tops our stay at this lovely heritage house. There's really something about clawfoot tubs and vintage fourpost beds that charm my socks off. Their furry mascot Mr. T made them earn 10 more extra points for me.

Marketa's was conveniently located within walking distance from downtown. The room was clean, staff were accommodating, and breakfast was delicious! Our only disappointment was that the bed was squeaky, which took a little bit of the romance out of our stay.

I live in Sidney B.C and wanted to surprise my husband with a surprise getaway while attending the Rifflandia Festival in Victoria. What a find Marketa's B&B was! Our stay was affordable, the location was perfect and the staff were so helpful. My husband can't stop talking about the breakfast, amazing is the only word to describe breakfast at this B&B. I travel allot and could not have been more happy with my stay here, it was so much more then any other B&B I've ever stayed at.

We had a main floor room, which I don't recommend. We were next to the kitchen and the patio outside, where people were smoking, which smelled up the room. It was very loud and because of the close proximity to the kitchen etc, there was no privacy. Breakfast was good, but you are not given an option of what time to eat.

Marketa's is just a few minute walk from the ferry and downtown so it was very easy to get everywhere we wanted without having to rent a car. The breakfast every morning was exceptional and we enjoyed chatting with fellow travelers and the staff. If we make our way to Victoria again, we will certainly stay at Marketa's!

The Welcome was just an envelope at the front door and we didn't feel very welcome. But that changed with the breakfast: very, very good and a very friendly service. The rooms were clean. We have enjoyed our time in the B&B and that it was so close to the city center. Thank you!

We stayed for 4 nights and looked forward to the fantastic breakfast every morning. They had 4-5 different menus and we could choose one from them. I personally loved wonderful Egg Florentine coming with a lot of fruits on the plate. It's unbelievable that the price includes such a breakfast. We took a family room and they provided a playpen for my baby. The room was a bit too small for two adults, a child for needing an extra bed and a baby in a playpen. However this is a good place to stay, walkable distance from Fishermans' Whalf and downtown, and warm heart stuff.
5 sur septembre 05, 2013
We had only been there for a day, but Marketa's B&B was great! The room was more than we could have hoped for and the home cooked breakfast was spectacular. You are only minutes walk away from the Fisherman's Warf and everywhere else. I really wish we could have stayed longer!

We stayed in one of the "Budget Rooms," located in the basement/first floor of the B&B. The room was simple and clean, but had everything we needed. Our floor also had a kitchenette, which we used to store wine and ice cream. Breakfast was held in their sunroom with several tables. One morning we had to share a table with a couple of girls that were also traveling, which turned out to be a lovely experience. The breakfast menu changed daily and everything was just delicious. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

This B&B is a little treasure. It's about a 10-minute walk from the ferry, in a quiet residential area. The rooms are charming, the artwork is original (by Marketa), and Marketa herself is very interesting, helpful, and friendly. The best thing of all was the breakfast. You actually get a menu with real choices. I had the Eggs Florentine; wonderful! And all plates come with freshly cut fruit. If I return to Victoria, that's where I will stay.

After I watched the website promo video for Marketa's B&B I knew immediately that this was where we needed to stay. I am a history fanatic, so I was delightfully surprised when we entered the building to see the originality of the gorgeous house had not been affected by the commercialism of the hotel industry. The decor and atmosphere was authentic to the age of the home and every promise of an enjoyable stay was met. I had never stayed at a B&B that offered a breakfast menu and full service of a restaurant. The food was fantastic and the service second to none. We will definitely be visiting Marketa's B&B the next time we visit historic Victoria and need a dose of old world charm with modern conveniences. Thanks Marketa and staff for making our stay such an enjoyable one.

My husband and I recently stayed two nights at Marketa's. It was FANTASTIC! We loved the more European style bedrooms (smaller, uniquely decorated, shower/jacuzzi en suite). It's an old house so expect some creaky hallways and less than perfect window trimmings. But beautiful dark wood detailing throughout and heavy brass doorhandles? I'll trade creaks for that any day. Maybe just stay in the upstairs rooms. We really enjoyed #3. Sheets were clean and the bed comfy. Breakfast was prompt, beautifully arranged, and delicious. I was particularly impressed with the eggs benedict. And the muffins that came out with the juice and coffee? Incredible. They were fresh and hearty and I was much delighted to find the mornings leftovers in a basket in the common room later that day. The location is perfect for exploring Victoria by foot because it's so close to everything and yet still nice and quiet. The staff found out it was our tenth anniversary and left a tray in our room with a handwritten note, roses, and few treats as a congratulations- very sweet and unexpected. I tend to shy away from cookie cutter experiences and sometimes that can go south. Not this time. We are definitely returning to Marketa's for future visits to Vancouver Island.

We stayed 2 nights and it was great to be close to everything. Very busy B&B but quiet and cosy.
3,2 sur août 06, 2013
We stayed several nights at this B&B. The hallway had a musty smell. The room was okay but the bed was very creaky and wobbly. No A/C but the fan and open windows aired out the room quite well. The breakfasts were excellent, delicious, fresh. The staff seemed a little frazzled at times as it was a full house. The location was great as there's parking on site (and also on the street) and it's walking distance to the legislative buildings and city centre.
4,8 sur août 04, 2013
We were greeted by a lovely hostess who made my husband & I feel right at home. The room was charming in an old Victorian way with ample space, terrific mattress & a comfortable chair for hubby (not a little guy). Clean bathroom with a claw foot tub (yea!), back patio was very large, lots of seating over the herb garden. Next morning breakfast was perfection, the best eggs benedict I've ever eaten & husbands pancakes were delicious as well, decorated with freshest fruit & real maple syrup. The ladies serving were so pleasant (& pretty, nice plus). We would return to Marketa's in a heartbeat. Did I mention her price was reasonable & location exactly where we wanted to be between Parliament & fisherman's wharf? Sweet. Sheila & Bruce

As B&B veterans, Marketa's was a great experience. Cosy room. Fantastic breakfast. And the location was secluded from the hustle of the city but close enough that we could walk to everything in the downtown area. Marketa's was a big part of making our visit to Victoria enjoyable.

The location is great, only 10min walk from the harbour and downtown. Very clean room and breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Only downside is we had one of the budget rooms which is right under the kitchen and beside the stairs so you hear all footsteps and don't sleep so well. Would recommend it, but if you're a light sleeper like me don't stay in the budget rooms.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed staying in the Sunshine room. It had lots of character, we especially enjoyed the large footed tub. We stayed at Marketa's a year ago, and visited for 2 days in July. We had another wonderful visit. The breakfasts are wonderful - I had eggs benedict one day, and a bagel with smoked salmon and cream cheese, dill, and capers on the second day. Lots of fresh fruit and blueberry muffins for a starter. I love Marketa's kitchenette, as I am an early riser and love to have an early morning cup of tea before breakfast is served at 8:30am. This is a terrific value - walking distance to Parliament and all the tourist attractions in Victoria's Inner Harbour.

My fiance and I had just returned from a trip to Mexico and we were still in travel mode so we decided to have an adventure in Victoria for a week. She had stayed at Marketa's before and raved about the breakfast there. The B&B we were at only had cold cereal and luke warm coffee in the morning so I was really hoping that Markets's had a vacancy. We lucked out and got in before the Canada Day rush and we were both extremely happy to be there. The staff are awesome and fun, the the honeymoon suite was great and the choice of breakfasts was excellent. My eggs benny was perfect and the muffins were fresh out of the oven . The other guests were from around the world so the breakfast conversation was lively. I highly recommend Marketa's to anyone interested in a home away from home.

Marketa’s was our first experience with a B&B. We would definitely come back to Marketa’s. We stayed three wonderful nights in room #4. We arrived on Monday around 1:00 pm and had an envelope on the front door with our name on it. Inside were our keys and a very helpful instruction letter. It was really nice to be able to relax a little after arriving from Seattle on the seaplane. Room #4 was very nicely decorated and clean. It exceeded our expectations. I cannot say enough about the location. It is within walking distance of ALL the wonderful attractions the Inner Harbor has to offer. We did a lot of walking. There is nothing like a Jacuzzi bath after a day of walking. Breakfast was large very delicious. The presentation was spectacular. Marketa’s cooks a full breakfast, from a whole menu of choices. The muffins straight from the oven were to die for. We cannot say enough about Marketa’s girls in the morning. We will definitely stay with Marketa’s again if we get back to this part of the world, and highly recommend her place to one and all. Marketa's was definitely a great value.

We recently stayed, on two nights at Marketa's bed and breakfast. The rooms (we booked a two person room for the first night, and a three person room the second night - my mother who was in Victoria to attend a high school reunion, stayed with friends the first night, and with us the second). Our rooms were warm, clean, attractive, and comfortable. If you want to have breakfast, it is important to be sure the breakfast hours are compatible with your schedule. Breakfast is served from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., and we could see, Marketa serves up a lovely breakfast. Unfortunately for us on our first morning, everyone else in this popular B&B was hungry for breakfast at the same time, and we would have been late for a meeting had we waited for the first wave to finish their breakfast (tip: arrive in the breakfast room well before 8:30 if you want to be part of the first wave!) - the second morning, we would have been late for our ferry,so decided to eat elsewhere in order to eat a bit earlier. None of this was Marketa's fault, and we are not complaining at all. Our lodging for these two evenings was still enjoyable, and a good value. We would recommend Marketa's to friends.

We were looking for a home away from home spot to meet for mom's 80th birthday and we sure did find it at Marketa's! I would stay here again and again and recommend it to everyone!

I stayed two nights at Marketa's B&B in May. I stayed in one of the budget rooms with private bath and this fit my needs perfectly. The bed was comfortable, room was clean and the room had a patio. Unfortunately, it was a bit rainy during my stay so I was not able to take advantage of the patio, but this was a nice perk if it had been sunny. Location was great, only a few blocks from the ferry terminals and easily within walking distance to everything Victoria has to offer. Breakfast is wonderful, best I have had at a B&B. Additionally, met a few lovely people also staying at Marketa's and had good breakfast conversation. Many international travelers staying at Marketa's. All in all I would recommend Marketa's!

Amazing breakfast (tried the smoked salmon bagel with capers, husband had the eggs benedict; both were terrific). Old wonderful house, full of character, wooden trim, old doorknobs, and squeaky wooden floors. Marketa wasn't there during our visit, but her staff was awesome and accommodating (allowed us to use the fridge for our own stuff; also, they accommodated dietary restrictions). Very short walk to parliament buildings and downtown.

My boyfriend and I recently had a great stay at Marketa's while on our two year Anniversary weekend trip to Victoria. The nightly price was one of the best in the area and the location was central to everything we wanted to do. Because of it's great location, we were able to leave the car at the B&B and walk everywhere. only 7 minutes to downtown! Breakfast in the morning looked and tasted amazing. Marketa really goes the extra mile with your meal, decorating it with fruit and supplying a seemingly endless amount of juice, tea, or coffee. Our room was quaint and i loved the decor. It matched the historical vibe of the house perfectly. I've already started recommending this B&B to friends and family. A great choice!

My husband and I couldn’t have chosen a better spot for our impromptu visit to Victoria. We have stayed in B&Bs throughout the UK, Ireland, and the U.S., and what Marketa offers rivals the best of what we have experienced, and for a great value. The location is ideal. We came in on the Black Ball Ferry, and Marketa’s was situated just blocks from the dock, on a quiet residential street. We brought our car up from Seattle, but spent much of our four-day visit walking into downtown and to the nearby park, leaving the car behind. The house itself has a grand, but welcoming, ambience, with lovely wood finishes throughout, and Marketa’s original art on every wall. Our room had a beautiful, antique fourposter, which – to be honest - filled me with some dread, because those old beds can sometimes be very uncomfortable, but the mattress was great, and we both actually slept more soundly than we have in ages. The one complaint I have for the entire experience is that there was no designated place in our room to put our suitcase, so we had to leave it rather awkwardly on the floor. We were in one of the hot-tub rooms – a feature that many on a romantic getaway would actually desire – but we would have preferred a little more space over a bath in our bedroom. Any review of Marketa’s would be remiss if it didn’t mention the Breakfast. Let me end by saying that not only did we have the best breakfast at a B&B ever, this had to be one of the best breakfasts in Victoria – and I’m not prone to hyperbole when it comes to food. The selection to choose from was surprisingly large, and everything was made from scratch, with care towards both presentation and taste. Between my husband and I, we sampled everything on the menu over the course of our stay, and were impressed all around. The hollandaise sauce on the benedict was the best I’ve ever tasted. We agreed that the breakfast alone added a value of at least $30 per day which the two of us would have otherwise spent at a restaurant.

My girlfriend and I stayed at Marketa's for two nights. It is in an ideal location- walking distance to the harbor and just a couple blocks from a bus-line to go any where else. Marketa welcomed us politely and warmly. She provided excellent restaurant recommendations for dinner and lunch. Her breakfast was delicious! It was the best Eggs Benedict I have ever had. Each breakfast came with fresh baked muffins and a lot of fruit. I enjoyed eating with the other guests staying at the house too. The rooms are beautiful. We stayed in a honeymoon suite which had a jacuzzi-style tub. Though the bubble system in the tub was a bit awkward but we could both fit in the tub and enjoy it. On the last day there my girlfriend had developed a cold or the flu. Checkout time was 11 am but our boat back to Seattle did not depart until 5pm. Marketa let us stay in the room until we needed to head to the boat so that my sickly lady could rest. We would have greatly enjoyed our stay at Marketa's anyhow, but we will always be grateful for that extra hospitality.

We loved Marketas's bed and Breakfast !!! We were greeted at the door by Maketa herself, with a huge welcoming smile. The house being over a hundred is beautiful and takes you back with it's beautiful wood floors staircase and ceiling. We stayed in one of the honeymoon rooms on the top floor., our room was spectacular!!! Four poster bed , two man jetted tub and fire place with temp control ... What more does a couple need??? Walking distance to downtown Victoria and our breakfast was amazing!!! Fresh muffins, fresh fruit, fresh coffee and amazing eggs flourintine and eggs Benny . Great value for the price . We will be back .

Marketa's is our favorite place to stay in Victoria; we come several times a year. A charming old house with comfy rooms beautifully furnished and a fabulous breakfast in the morning with tempting choices--staying here is a romantic treat. The best part of staying here, however, is Marketa herself. She knows about whatever we are looking for in the area and is happy to take the time to help us find it and enjoy our stay. Whether we are looking for a bus across town, a great cup of tea, a restaurant recommendation, or an iron for a wrinkled shirt, Marketa has the answer.

I thought this B&B was priced right, as it was comfortable, clean and quiet. No extras like coffee makers in the room for early risers like myself, so I had to wait until breakfast was served, but that was minor. Loved the Victorian feel of the place, and its very central location, just steps to Dallas Road where I could go running the evenings.

Room was clean and as described on the website, the innkeeper was a bit less outgoing than other B&Bs we have stayed in, the food was outstanding with fresh muffins, a menu to order from and fresh fruit, tea, coffee, orange juice. For the money this is a solid value, great location.

Marketa's was a charming B&B to stay in, with the 100 year old home exuding a comfortable warmth and elegance. It is located in a quiet, tree-lined area of Victoria, whilst still being within walking distance of the downtown area. You are provided an amazing choice of mouth-watering breakfasts, that are served in a setting that allows you the opportunity to mingle with other guests. It was indeed a pleasure to be a guest at Marketa's and I would stay there again without hesitation.

The breakfast menu is extraordinary & delicious with every bite! Best I have had after staying at many B & B's. The room was attractively decorated but the bedding was weathered and could use replacing. We did have to squish 2 spiders in the room and clean cobwebs out of the lamp in order to turn it on. Economy room means your room shares windows with the front entrance and office. We had the misfortune that Marketa's staff were loudly discussing reservations at 3 am one of our nights there, making it impossible to sleep - 1 due to noise and 2 due to white thin curtains not filtering out enough light. Otherwise a quiet neighborhood and nice facility conveniently located to downtown, the harbor, museums and attractions as well as the bus station. We would stay there again but would probably request a different room.

~ two nights at marketa's B&B was fine. excellent location, good price. ~ victoria is a beautiful city, very walkable. restaurants can be a bit pricey but if you look at it as the full experience (we had drinks only at the bengal bar in the empress hotel) and take advantage of the free looks (parliament house and its broad lawn and ancient trees), you'll find a lot to satisfy. we were on foot - black ball ferry from port angeles, left our car in washington - and saw a lot of the inner harbour area and business district. ~ recommend taking the public bus to butchart gardens instead of one of the tour buses. it was a lot cheaper than the tour bus and it ran more often. you don't get the on-board commentary from the driver but that didn't seem worth the triple the cost (public bus was $5 RT on BC bus, the tour company buses ran about $60; no real time difference, the gardens are about a 40 minute ride each way). ~ all in all, a lovely addition to our vacation to the olympic peninsula.

We stayed three nights in a downstairs room and found it to be completely acceptable for our stay. Marketa and her team did a great job of looking after us and the breakfasts were particularly good. My only quibble is the noise made by other guests on the stairwell and in the corridor. Otherwise it was all fine.
4,4 sur septembre 08, 2012
A lovely Victorian house. The breakfasts were excellent with a choice of five different meals. We were on the second floor -the stairs could be an issue for some. The sounds traveled quite easily between some rooms which could be an issue for some as well. I would return again were I ever in Victoria.
4,2 sur septembre 08, 2012
Our stay here was beautiful. The rooms carried with them a nice Victorian feel, and though small were quite cozy and encouraged us not to spend all of our time in the room. Breakfast each morning was astounding, truly the gemstone of the operation. 2 versions of a simple menu prepared to perfection. The staff were all lovely and very polite, particularly a few of the ladies who served breakfast who were quite down to earth and funny. Marketa had some beautiful art that lined the walls, and it helped stamp the place as her own. All in all, the stay was wonderful and we would both do it again.
5 sur septembre 08, 2012
We were staying in Victoria only one night, and chose Marketa's B&B. Our front room was nice and big, and the house was very beautiful throughout. Marketa made a cafe recommendation, and we had a blast at Superior Cafe that evening. Breakfast at Marketa's was made to order, served with delicious muffins, by the friendly staff. It was close to everything Downtown Victoria has to offer, and I would definitely stay here again!

Marketa's is—seriously—our home away from home! We've tried other B-n-B's and hotels, but as soon as we found Marketa's, we've never looked back. From the beautiful original woodwork to the amazing breakfast (BEST IN VICTORIA!!) to the kind and attentive hospitality we always receive, Marketa's is the only place we'll stay while visiting Victoria. Just blocks from the Inner Harbour, Marketa's is a quick 10-minute stroll from the ferries, and a lesiurely 15-minute saunter into downtown, the Empress or Beacon Hill Park. It's quiet, peaceful and just off the beaten path, so it's a lovely oasis to return to after a day or evening of frolicking about town. And the breakfast is absolutely unbeatable. Everything is homemade to order and beautifully presented, there's always interesting guests (often European) to chat with and the portions are so generous that one will want to take a late (or abbreviated) lunch! Highly recommended and always a delight, Marketa's is an essential part of our Victoria adventures.

I have stayed at Marketa's many times over the years and have consistently found the experience most enjoyable. The staff go above and beyond. I have stayed at other B&B's in Victoria (only if Marketa's is booked) and found them to be so-so. My first choice is always Marketa's. I recommend it to all my friends heading to Victoria

I was in Victoria for a professional convention and was looking for accommodation other than a cookie cutter hotel room. I found Marketa's on-line and was entertained by the presentation on her website and was happy to find the location of her Bed & Breakfast was close enough to the Victoria Convention Centre for me to investigate further. The variety of rooms was excellent and the room rates were more than reasonable. My room was spotless and comfortable. While I was unable to enjoy the breakfast part of Marketa's, because of my schedule, I did enjoy the aroma of fresh baking and cooking on my way out every morning. Marketa's is a very pleasant, 10 minute neighborhood walk to the Legislature Buildings and Inner Harbour and the rest of the attractions and shopping offered in Victoria. It was a wonderful refuge after each day of presentations and workshops. I hope to return to stay at Marketa's on my next trip to Victoria. Marketa and her staff have created a very comfortable and genuinely friendly atmosphere that would be hard to beat by any other accommodation anywhere. Thank you ladies, Jeff MacDonald-Bain Tsawwassen, BC Canada

We were only in Victoria for a quick stay, and we are happy to have stayed at Marketa's! The location is great -- walking distance to Fisherman's Wharf and downtown. The budget rooms downstairs are a great deal, and very cute little rooms. We had to leave early, so couldn't enjoy breakfast (served only from 8:30-9:30) but cereal was available. Overall a good stay.

This is an older house converted into a B&B. Not all rooms have private bathrooms & t.v.s and this is definitely not a 5 star experience, but for the money the rooms are clean, beds are comfortable and staff is happy and willing to assist in any way they can. Location is just off the beaten path but close enough to the Inner Harbor to walk to. What really made the experience worth while was the breakfast! The menu is smallish but excellent! The Eggs Benedict were excellent and all the dishes had excellent presentation. Thanks for the great stay!! I'd definitely stay there again!

A great location right within walking distance of town, there were 6 of us and our room was great with a little garden off it, the other room passable but it was the breakfast that was amazing - not only did you have a choice, but there were warm, freshly cooked muffins to start with then an amazing gourmet presented spread.

Nice looking B+B on street close to downtown. Staff was friendly and helpful. Bed was comfortable but..... the very loud sound of water running at 6:00am woke me and kept me awake until person showering in adjacent room finished. Not acceptable to me and enough to keep me from going back. Stayed in room #3.

This is my first time at a bed and breakfast. We were in Victoria, B.C. for a couple of nights and rather than spend a fortune in pricier accommodations as we were planning to spend most of the day visiting attractions anyway, I discovered Marketa's. Trip advisor ratings as well as customer reviews gave Marketa's a thumbs up so I decided to give it a try. We stayed in a budget room with a shared bath and was hesitant at first as I've never shared a bath in any previous hotel stays but Marketa said she's never had a problem before as long as people were considerate of each other. This is the best value ofr your money in Victoria - rooms were very clean although modest. Breakfasts were to look forward to, we stayed for 2 nights and they have different sets of menu for both days. The staff was friendly. I did not get a chance to meet Marketa but Caroline was pretty awesome too! It was near the harbour, Parliament and most attractions - perfect for the first-timer on a brief visit. I would definitely recommend to families, couples, a group of friends, etc,

Marketa's was a great way to experience quaint Victoria. The room was clean and full of sunlight with a rad old clawfoot tub. Breakfast was delicious and the place is just a short walk from Government street and parliament and all kinds of touristy sightseeing stuff. Thanks for a lovely visit.

Had a downstairs room. Very cosy and clean. Trouble was the thinness of the walls and doors. I had to sleep with earplugs as you can hear the comings and goings next door and in the kitchen and common areas. Very intrusive. Otherwise it was fine with a simple, quite tasty breakfast, served - not self service.
3,8 sur juillet 06, 2012
The breakfast certainly exceeded my expectations! So yummy! Location was great. I wish the staff would have identified/introduced themselves properly ... "Hi, my name is ___. Feel free to ask questions, etc" I didn't know who were guests and who were staff. A list of names of the staff would have been helpful, perhaps. I would stay again.

We arrived late but we found an envelope with a key inside it at the doorstep and were able to settle and get to sleep right away. In the morning we woke up early and went to have breakfast. At Marketa's they give you a menu and you can choose from a few different delicious options. I got a bagel with salmon and it made me go through almost the whole day! Marketa herself was very friendly and I can definitely recommend staying at her place. It was a brief but very pleasant stay, thank you! Ps, and her B&B was the most inexpensive with a great location!

We stayed one night and will be back in the future! The staff were all very pleasant, and the accommodations were very nice for the price. The house was old and each room had a lot of character. Marketa's provided everything I wanted in a Victorian weekend getaway. The building had every heritage feature I could wish, including stain glass windows, a tranquil sitting room great for writing and a four poster bed in the room. Modern features such as a jacuzzi tub and works of art only added to the pleasantness of my stay and did not detract. The rooms were clean and quiet, the breakfasts varied and well presented. The food was of the best quality and delicious. The staff made every effort to be helpful and welcoming. A fun stay! -Evey Q

We spent a long weekend in Victoria at Marketa's. Because we'd booked a 'budget' room, its appointments were not elegant, but the private bath was spacious and the room was comfortable. Marketa and her staff were amazingly gracious hosts who went out of their way to accommodate our needs. Breakfast each morning was an adventure in eating well. And the inn itself is so well located that it was possible for us to either walk or catch a convenient bus to wherever we wished to go. I can recommend Marketa's without reservation.

The Breakfast and Staff was exceptional. Also the short distance to the city center is a plus. If you like the victorian style rooms you probably would rate them a bit higher, for us the smell of old furniture was not the best partner but ok. The shower is ok but not really nice. But looking back we had a nice stay at Marketas.

Location and price, availability were key reasons for choosing this spot. We arrived around 6:30 PM and hoped to get some help with dinner plans. The owner was just leaving to do errands, having left a note for us to settle in. The advice and directions for dinner were confusing and not what we were looking for. Rooms were fine, food for breakfast good. All in all, a good value.

The Room was very, very nice, definitely the most lovable room on our Canada journey so far (and there were some very nice ones). The breakfast was very good, too. So the a somewhat upmarket price is fully justified. I'd stay there again next time I visit Victoria.

Ten days before our stay, I sent an e-mail to Marketa's B&B to inform the owner of our late arrival (11.30 PM) and when my husband and I got there we had to ring the bell for 20 minutes before she came to open the door. I don't know if it was because of the "sudden" awakening, but she looked stoned. She showed us our room, gave us the key, told us the time for having breakfast and then disappeared. We settled in the room and went to bed. At about 01.00 AM we were awakened by somebody unlocking the door of "our" room. We screamed to back out, I got up and checked who was there. I found a man, a young woman and an elderly woman with a sleeping baby in her arms. They were frightened and astonished for having found somebody in "their" room. They told me that in the evening they were given that room by the owner and that she also had put a crib for the baby in it (I saw her pulling it out before showing us the room). We tried to understand what could have happend but were not able to figured it out. In the end my husband and I stayed in the disputed room, the two women and the baby slept in another room occupied by three other people (relatives of them, I believe), while the man had to sleep on a sofa in the living room. The morning after, the owner didn't even apologize for the inconvenience. Actually she didn't greet us at all. She just cashed the payment. As far as the rest of our stay, the room was clean and breakfast was good. However, in conclusion, we wouldn't stay there any more.

When we arrived, our key was in an envelope pinned to the door, not very impressed with security aspect. Marketta was out when we arrived but made no attempt to meet & greet us when we returned to the B&B after eating dinner in Victoria. At breakfast the following day, we were cramped into a table in the corner of t he dining room with no room to move. Marketa was present but again made no attempt to welcome us. Our order was taken by a young girl and after 45 minutes we noticed that others who had entered the dining room were receiving their breakfast and we were still sitting there. We had to ask twice before we received anything. The breakfast was cooked fresh but was very basic. When checking out with Marketa, we mentioned the speed of service and all she said was the orders had been mixed up. No proper apology and she did not seem particularly interersted. If choosing a B&B in Victoria, the choice available is extensive, however, would recommend not to stay here, you could do so much better. A great pity as the internet site made it sound really nice and homely.

We stayed at Marketa's for our fifth anniversary. We were pleasantly suprised upon check in to discover there was a jacuzzi in our room which I hasn't realized upon booking the room. Breakfast was good and service was quick. All in all a place to repeat.

Lovely rooms, comfortable beds, lots of soft towels - couldn't be more comfortable. Breakfasts are superb - several delicious choices each day accompanied by a variety of fresh fruit and tasty homemade muffins. Will be my first choice for accommodation in Victoria BC.

We are repeat customers who love coming here. However, the jacuzi jets in the honeymoon suite weren't working. I understand things happens, but I feel we shouldn't have been charged the full amount for the room - since the extra charge is directly related to the jacuzi. Also, the overflow drain was so low that the tub couldn't hold enough water to cover your thighs and the 2 of us couldn't enjoy the tub because the water level was too low.

We stayed at Marketa's for our honeymoon last week. Very close to downtown and all the sights. Comfortable, no frills room with friendly staff and amazing breakfasts. The only thing that could be improved upon was the quality of the cleaning - it wasn't consistent each day, and we found items under the bed belonging to previous guests. Our room was under the kitchen, and with the age of the house, it was noisy at times. But overall, we really enjoyed our stay and the value can't be beat, nor the breakfasts!

We loved the edible flowers and fruits on our breakfast plates! The presentation on our plates was elegant. We enjoyed the jacuzzi in our room!

The location could not have been better. Easy to walk. I did not need a car. Breakfast was yummy and bed was super comfy. Everything at Marketa's is clean and lovely. I'm very glad I chose Marketa's for lodging in Victoria. Definitely exceeded my expectations. Hope to come back some day.

My wife and I stayed at Marketa's for a total of 3 nights while on a bicycle trip through the Victoria area. The bedrooms we had were beautiful and quiet. Breakfast was a feast. Classic older building with character. Close to all there is to see in Victoria. Marketa's artwork is all over the building and she is very talented. We will come back.

We were made to feel welcome, and offered complimentary sherry in the sitting room. The four poster bed was extremely comfortable. It was like we were in another century because the house is very old and it was very peaceful and quiet. Breakfast was absolutely fabulous and served freshly made while we waited and the choices chosen from a menu, which we have never experienced before in a B&B. We will be back again.

We really enjoyed this great value b&b. Yes our budget room was behind the small office (which was slightly noisy), but someone needs to be! All staff and Marketa were so helpful, and the atmosphere is quirky, homely and very very lovely. We especially enjoyed the impromptu ukulele music on the back deck after breakfast that some guests felt sufficiently comfortable to provide! Very welcoming and good value. Thanks heaps Marketa - Mark & Jane (Australia)

We truly enjoyed our stay at Marketa's. The location was good, the staff was most helpful and the breakfasts were terrific. It was nice to be able to sit outside on the sundeck. We booked a room with its own bathroom which I would recommend. A first class operation.

Picked Marketa's because of all the rave reviews on the breakfasts. And the breakfast did not disappoint. Stayed for two days and enjoyed two different breakfast menus. The food was excellent, the muffins scrumpous and the staff were attentive, delightful with a good sense of humor. What did disappoint was the cleanliness of the room. I had to plug something in behind the bed and the dust bunnies were alive and breeding. Yeah, there were a lot of them. The house is old and some of the outlets don't accept three prong plugs. But there was pelnty of hot water for showers, so that was at least updated. The location is great, there are good restaurants in the area and lots of other amenities. It is easy to get where you want to go from Marketas.

From the outside, this B&B is not much to look at, but the rooms are very comfortable and spacious, the common room is dark but inviting and cozy offering late night home-baked goodies, and the breakfast is UNBELIEVEABLE! Beautifully (as in, take a picture!) prepared food by Marketa herself and team, fresh fruit, eggs, and all home-made muffins and breads served in a sunny breakfast room off the kitchen. Location is a short walk for those taking ferries to and from WA, USA or for eating great seafood on the wharf. A great value.

Marketa's location close to the ferries is quite convenient. She is a gracious hostess, and rooms are comfortable and clean. Her breakfasts in the sunroom or on the deck are amazing - artistically prepared, delicious, and abundant. Prices are quite reasonable. I will definitely stay here again when I return to Victoria.

My wife and I and our 2 friends stayed at Marketa's B&B for 2 days in July 2011. We got 2 budget rooms with attached bathrooms. The house is almost 100 years old and had its own charm. Marketa, the owner/operator, is a very hard-working lady and does whatever she can to make her clients feel comfortable. The toilet bowl in our friend's room had rust stains. When this was pointed out to her, Marketa tried to find them another room. As none were available, she gave them a small discount. Breakfast was good, with a reasonably large choice. There is very limited parking in the backyard, but there is ample parking in the street in the front.

You get to choose from a menu each day, you will get fresh muffins and all the coffee you want. You can walk from the B&B to the inner harbour in no time.

The breakfast included a beautiful fruit salad, and we were given a choice of entrees. The servers were polite and friendly. In our room was an old-fashioned 4-poster bed. Marketa and her staff of "angels" were wonderful, cheerful, efficient and sweet. We liked the bohemian aura of the B & B and the breakfasts were exceptional. I would have liked a chest of drawers in the room, and the shower was too high for me, I had to twist myself around to soap up...but otherwise I loved my experience and my friend did, too.

We stayed at Marketa's Bed and Breakfast just one night. The location is superb -- nice neighbourhood, close to everything. The breakfast was terrific -- they go to a lot of work to make a great meal. I do feel however that the rooms need updating and so does the bedding and towels. A computer in the common room would also be a great addition -- that has been done in many b&bs we've stayed at.

The room and facilities were very good. We were traveling with a lot of luggage as we were on a 4 weeks trip and the size of the room was a little small for 4 suitcases. Other wise the accommaditions were very good and the location was excellent for walking to the downtown area.

Marketa's Bed & Breakfast is very conveniently located, in walking distance to the Harbour and the Centre of the City of Victoria. The breakfast that Marketa prepares each morning is out of this world. The other guests that you meet each morning at your table are very engaging and mostly world travellers. Marketa is a beautiful hostess and very helpful should you require information of sites to see in the area. This is excellent value for so close to the centre of the city. The hospitality of Marketa and the staff she employs were outstanding. We walked from the ferry terminal and found the B&B without any trouble. The location was great since you could walk right to Fisherman's Wharf and historic buildings in Victoria. Couldn't have gotten a better breakfast anywhere else. Pride of ownership is evident in everything Marketa does (even to the homemade port wine served in the parlor!) A great place to stay in Victoria.
4,4 sur juin 14, 2011
My wife and stayed for three nights in the least expensive room at Marketa's. The B&B, an older house located on a quiet residential street within easy walking distance of the heart of action. Despite a bicycle race and a yacht race the weekend we were in Victoria, the room was always quiet. The furnishings and decor were simple and in places a bit worn. The furnishings and decor in the other rooms looked to be a cut higher. Marketa was an excellent hostess, friendly and helpful while respecting the privacy of her guests. The breakfasts prepared by Marketa and her three helpers were outstanding with a number of choices offered each morning.
4,2 sur juin 12, 2011
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Marketa's. The breakfast menus were outstanding! My room, one of the least expensive, was very new, bright in spite of being on ground floor, cosy and had an small outside patio. My only regret was the sometimes inconsiderate fellow clients who talked very loudly in the halls, for extended periods of time.
4,4 sur juin 10, 2011
Marketa's is a real find. Located within easy distance of beautiful downtown Victoria, it is quiet, comfortable and welcoming with breakfasts to die for! The wonderful friendly atmosphere is a tired traveller's dream. Breakfasts, apart from being delicious, are an opportunity to meet with and share stories with others. Well done Marketa's!

We stayed 2 nights at Marketa's and had a wonderful time. She gave us a great gift for our anniversary. Her breakfast are suburb. You won't find a better breakfast anywhere in Victoria. The rooms are good and good value. Marketa herself is a treasure, we will be coming back.

If you want a nice place to stay, walking distance from everything, and a great value, this is the B&B for you. Marketa is friendly and helpful in finding places to visit. The food is wonderful!!! Visit the Superior Cafe (only a block away) for a wonderful dinner (artsy, live jazz, outdoor garden seating). My only negative was the bed in our room was very hard which made me stiff in the morning.

I arrived via the Victoria Clipper from Seattle on a glorious evening having sailed through Puget Sound's astonishing grandeur of scale and arrived at Marketa's without special expectations just a simple night's rest and a nourishing breakfast after a week at a pretty heavy conference in Los Angeles. What a warm & welcoming smile at the door and comfortable room with perfect pillows and a Henry VIII four-poster. Breakfast was just as the doctor ordered and I shall return again and again to Marketa's.

Marketa's is a basic B&B and is well located in downtown Victoria, BC. Room was small but clean as well as the bathroom. We had the basement double bed room facing a garden and was very quiet. What was outstanding was breakfast, with a choice of several dishes that included fruit, coffee and juices. We chose this B&B to be close to the CoHo ferry line as well as the Empress hotel.

We went to Victoria for the weekend and were pleased to find a quaint and lovely B&B located so near to the ferry and provided a military discount! Marketa was very hospitable and even let us hang around the house while waiting for our ferry to depart! The breakfast was amazing and abundant. Marketa's is a unique blend of lavish pampering and homestyle comforts. The substantial breakfast with a choice of 6 menu items, coffee, juice and freshly baked muffins jumpstarted our day. No lunch was required. The rooms were spotless and the jacuzzi soaker tubs and electric fireplaces created a romantically charming atmosphere. Marketa's is only a 10 minute walk from the inner harbour so you can park your car and leave it for your stay.

My partner and I took a mid-week trip to Victoria and decided to stay at Marketa's based on other reviews we had read. The century old house was very charming, the rooms very inviting, and Marketa's breakfast will not be easily forgotten. Our room was very comfortable, quiet, and romantic. The B&B was only a few blocks from the Coho ferry terminal and all the harbor highlights were within walking distance. We also explored the neighborhood on foot and found a coffee/book shop, pharmacy, grocer, and access to the walking trail along the waterfront. Beacon Hill Park was also close by, a plus for us!

We enjoyed our stay in this older Victoria home and were served a breakfast of choice in the morning. I do believe that the diningroom service needs to change as we were not served per party but per choice of breakfast. example: everyone that ordered pancakes received their pancakes but if someone in your party ordered toast and eggs they would have to wait until the kitchen was setup for that choice. This was NOT a pleasant experience

I had never visited Victoria before so had no knowledge of local lodgings. Found Marketa's on the internet. What a good decision it was to book it. Marketa made me feel right at home with her relaxed approach. She takes an interest in her guests helping to make their stay as enjoyable as possible. Location is good, room was fine, breakfast good and price was very reasonable. Gilbert, the friendly seagull was only too happy to help me eat my breakfast. Be sure to feed him if you stay. Victoria is a great location. Marketa's was the icing on the cake. I can't wait for my next visit.
