Florence's Great-Grandmother's Ginger Bread: Bread

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup sugar

  • 1 1/2 teaspoon soda

  • 1 teaspoon ginger

  • 2 1/2 cups Flour sifted

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 cup butter or lard

  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1 egg

  • 1 cup molasses

  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves

Step 1:

Cream shortening and sugar, add beaten egg, molasses, then dry ingredients which have been sifted together. Add hot water last and beat until smooth. Bake in a greased shallow pan 30 min. in moderate 325 degrees to 350 degrees oven. Makees 15 portions
