Chocolate Chip Scones: Breakfast-Brunch

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all purpose flour

  • 2/3 cup sugar

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  • 6 tablespoons butter, chilled and diced

  • 3/4 cup milk chocolate chips

  • 3/4 cup milk

  • 1 egg yolk, large

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream

Step 1:

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Line baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2:

In large bowl, combine flour, 2/3 cup sugar, baking powder and baking soda. Mix well. Using pastry blender, cut in butter until crumbly. Mix in chocolate chips.

Step 3:

In medium bowl, whisk milk, egg yolk, and vanilla extract; add to flour mixture. Mix until dough comes together in moist clumps. Gather dough into ball.

Step 4:

On lightly floured surface, roll dough to 1 inch thickness. Using 2 1/2 inch round cutter, cut scones and place on prepared baking sheet. Brush tops evenly with 2 tablespoons cream and sprinkle with 2 teaspoons sugar.

Step 5:

Bake 20 minutes, or until lightly browned. Serve warm with Strawberry Sweet Cream.
