Cranberry Scones

Ingrédients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 cup softened butter or margarine
  • 1 cup dried cranberries or "Ocean Spray craisins"
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 tablespoon grated orange rind
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg

  1. In a large bowl blend flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and baking soda. Cut butter into flour mixture until it becomes a coarse crumb texture.
  2. Stir in craisins, nuts and orange rind. Add buttermilk and mix with a fork until moistened. Gather dough into a ball and place on a floured board. Roll or pat into a circle 3/4-inch thick. Cut into 12 pie shaped pieces.
  3. Place on a greased baking sheet 1 1/2-inches apart. Brush tops of scones with milk and sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg mixture.
  4. Bake at 400 degrees for 13 to 15 minutes, until lightly browned.
