Magnolia Plantation Bed and Breakfast Inn is an 1885 French Second Empire Victorian home in Gainesville, Florida. Joe and Cindy Montalto purchased the 5400 square foot home in 1990 and began the restoration process. The house had its original floor plan when Joe and Cindy purchased it and they decided that it was very important to retain the integrity of the house as much as possible. All the woodwork inside the home is original. If you enjoy seeing the way people would have used their home in the 1800's you will enjoy visiting the Magnolia Plantation. It truly is a family affair. Joe's father, a Landscape Architect, designed the gardens, pond and waterfalls. Cindy's mother lives in the carriage house and helps Cindy with the Inn. Joe and Cindy also live on the third floor of the house so someone will always be around to see to your needs. You should find yourself feeling very much at home shortly after your arrival because of the attention to detail. There is a stocked refrigerator with complimentary beverages and baskets of fruit and snacks. There is even a "boo boo sick" drawer filled with the items you may find you have left at home or may need to go to the drug store for. "Sleeping in" or waking up "at the crack of dawn" work equally as well at the Inn. Breakfast is as casual as a cup of coffee (ready before 6 AM, its on a timer) or by showing your smiling face to Cindy you can enjoy a full breakfast in 15 minutes. Gainesville is less than half-hour drive to many antique shops, clear water springs, museums, bike trails and of course is the home of the University of Florida and the 1996 National Champion Florida Gators. And we're pet friendly.

Enchanted Hideaway

5 on May 30, 2014

We have stayed at the Magnolia Plantation for the last 15 years I or so, ever since our son attended the University of Florida at Gainesville. The Magnolia is superb, with little cottages sprinkled throughout, if you choose privacy, or the main house, a restored regal historic residence. The surroundings are magical, with water fountains, gazebo, a little bridge, cobbled pathway, and lush giant trees. This is amazing. The beds are super comfortable, crisp beddings, wonderful decor, full kitchens in the cottages, just a joy. Yes, this is one of a kind hidden treasure.

Southern gothic charm

Lovely southern home with very, very helpful and understanding hosts. Highly recommend!

Relaxin' in Florida....

5 on April 15, 2014

Hubby and I enjoy frequenting BNB's but none moreso than the Magnolia Plantation in Gainesville, Fl. What's the difference that makes going back here an anticipated pleasure each time? Engaging inn keepers Joe and Cindy, chance meeting of short-cationers from close by, an old downtown within walking distance with an eclectic variety of restaurants to choose from adds to the charm of this unique place. We always feel like coming here grants us "permission to put away cell phones, turn off TV's, and walk softly" on wooden floors in the main house. Making our own home feel like the paradise we visit upon every visit here is a personal goal. And to all of my friends up north who need to get away from the snow and cold, this is your destination for a recharge.

Girls' Weekend

Conveniently located to downtown restaurants, owners were most pleasant and very helpful with recommendations. Joe has lots of interesting stories! We stayed in the Secret Garden which was very private and the court yard was beautiful.

Last-minute stay

3.4 on March 19, 2014

We stayed in the only guestroom on the first floor. It was nicely decorated and comfortable, but did not offer much privacy, as it was across the hall from the kitchen and dining room. The owners are delightful, and shared a lot of the history of the property.

Summer Specials

It's almost summer, when the nights are long and the rates are cheaper. Back by popular demand, we will be offering our Vacation Rentals for much of the summer. They will begin July 1st, just in time for an Independence Day getaway! Technically the end date is August 1st, but we can be flexible on the start and end date if the schedule permits. In case you are unfamiliar with what a Vacation Rental is, allow me to clarify. A Vacation Rental is when you rent a cottage for $100 a night, at a 3 night minimum based on 2 people. They apply only to cottages, and not the main house. This deal does not include breakfast or daily service. There will be some of my staff around for a couple of hours each day, so if after a couple of days you need more towels or trash bags (or something along those lines), then you can let us know and we will be happy to help you. But, for the most part, you don't see us and we don't see you. Everyone is generally happier this way.
