    pleasantly surprised

    April 11, 2013

Stayed 1 night with my husband and daughter. Was last minute decision but was very good. Understand that this is basically a hostel but for thoughs looking for budget stay, especially families with kids, you cannpt beat price and location. The crew is extremely nice (John the manager, Dennis the cook and Conrad the owner). Spent some time over coffee and pancakes chatting with them. And the pancakes are seriously good!

    Will Definitely Be Returning!

    April 03, 2013

Never have I stayed somewhere as welcoming and utterly home-like. The staff are down-to-Earth and yet very on top of any question you may have. Breakfast, and the company of those eating with me, was absolutely grand. My stay was everything it was advertised to be and more! I expected moderate accommodation and slept in a bed with the same comfort level as my own at home. I expected the normal, distant communication between myself, the staff, and other lodgers...only to discover a place that truly felt more like home. I will definitely return to The Pirate Haus when next I visit St. Augustine!

Best Deal, Best People, Best Pancakes!

    April 01, 2013

Captain Conrad has created a fantastic place to enjoy your vacation in St Augustine. His personality, like the rooms, is warm, quirky, welcoming, and open. He is the best pancake maker this side of Mrs. Butterworth's and knows how to make anyone from any walk of life feel like an old friend. The private rooms have private bathrooms, and each room has a fun, colorful theme. I have been visiting the Pirate Haus for the last 15 years, and it has continually improved under Conrad's ownership (since 2003). All the best historical sites are within an easy walk, from the Fort, to the La Leche shrine, to the Lightner Museum. It is a great value for the budget minded, but does not cut corners on quality. Definitely a gem.

    Family Friendly accommodations

    March 31, 2013

We stayed 4 nights at the Pirate Haus Inn (March 22-26, 2013). The room was simple, but spacious enough. Make sure you bring your own toiletries. The stairs are very steep, so might not be good for people with bad knees. We appreciated the quiet hours (10 pm to 8 am), and the guests seemed to understand that. But the noise from the street is terrible! Between drunk people yelling and car blasting window rattling music, I did not find it a restful place. Bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. The rest of my group had no trouble with the noise and slept fine. I can't fault the Inn for the street noise, just something to keep in mind. I thought the staff was friendly and breakfast time was very fun, with the kids playing together and the adults visiting. You don't get this experience in a fancy hotel where everyone keeps to themselves. I would recommend this Inn and a visit to St. Augustine - it was fun!

    A treasure on Treasury Street

    March 29, 2013

What a gem this place is! The location, the staff, the rooms, and the experience! We found it to be such a treat to be able to put kids to bed and then walk across the hall to the common room and "fraternize" with the patrons. Pancakes were delicious, and they even took requests for new shapes! Conrad, Dennis and John were all a pleasure. Thanks so much- we will spread the word!
