The Scandinavian Inn is an environmentally-sensitive bed and breakfast where you can enjoy the simple pleasures of an inviting small Minnesota town nestled within the bluffs of the Root River. This five-bedroom bed and breakfast is in the residential neighborhood of Lanesboro, Minnesota. It is a Victorian home built in 1893 by Ole Habberstad, a young entrepreneur and business man who had made the journey from the Norwegian community of Eidsvold in the mid-1800's. The home features Southern pine woodwork, period furnishings, worldwide travel mementos, high ceilings, transom windows, spacious grounds, and an inviting front porch to relax with coffee or a glass of wine. The rooftop gazebo offers a picturesque panoramic view of the Lanesboro valley. Lanesboro is a most unusual small town tucked into a Root River valley, with professional live theater, a waterfall, a central park, and an active arts community. The JailHouse Inn is the Old Fillmore County Jail built in the Italianate architectural style in 1869. The interior of the Inn has painstakingly been restored to its original Victorian splendor. Many aspects of the interior space have been left as they may have been, including the original curved walnut banister at the front entrance of the Inn. Some of the original seven foot paneled white doors remain from when the purpose of the building was the Fillmore County Jail.
