The Maxwell House Bed and Breakfast

Penny, the proprietor, could not have been friendlier or more accommodating. The house, lawn and gardens were beautiful and relaxing. Great location in the town of Walla Walla.

We love staying at the Maxwell House. Penny is such a gracious hostess. Her chocolate chip cookies are just the perfect delicious mid day snack, and the candy bowl is always full! Our room is beautifully appointed and so comfortable!

We had a lovely, relaxing stay at The Maxwell House whilst in Walla Walla for my daughter's graduation from Whitman College. The B&B is super-convenient for campus, just a short walk away. Penny is a charming and gracious hostess and serves wonderful breakfasts. The rooms are suite-style, with a separate sitting area as well as the bedroom and bathroom. Nice touches are quality toiletries - even makeup remover - and the "hostess" bar with teas, a Keurig machine for coffees and chai, and wine glasses and corkscrew for imbibing your purchases from area wineries. It's pleasant to sit out on the porch and a pretty garden with gazebo has tables and chairs for breakfast or enjoying the sunshine.

Penny is a wonderful innkeeper to the lovely Maxwell House. We had a lovely room, delicious breakfast and enjoyed our stay. We are making a return visit this summer!

Hostess was absolutely wonderful. She made dinner reservations,provided excellent information about what was happening in Walla Walla, and was very accomodating in every way.

The place was charming and Penny could not have been a more accommodating hostess. Looking forward to staying there again and being able to spend more time. Very enjoyable!

We stayed the weekend at the Maxwell House with another couple for winery touring and we're so happy we chose to stay here. Penny was such an accommodating hostess! She always made sure we had what we needed and her breakfasts were quite delicious. Her B&B is beautiful (Victorian is not a style I usually like but this place is quite charming), clean and her backyard patio and gardens are so comfortable and relaxing, especially with a nice bottle of wine. The location is very convenient for exploring both the Whitman college campus and downtown Walla Walla on foot, but she does have bikes available as an alternative. We will be referring friends and family to Penny and her wonderful inn!

Great time, and Penny was so helpful. She supplied us with a action-packed, fun-filled days in Walla Walla. Would reccomend the Maxwell House B&B as a favorite stay to everyone.

We have not stayed in many B&Bs, but our stay at The Maxwell House was a very comfortable one and we would definitely visit again. We really enjoyed the outdoor living spaces there.

The house is so convenient--close to downtown and a short drive to all the nearby wineries. The house was lovely and the food wonderful.

The Maxwell House is a beautiful old home and the proprietor goes out of her way to make you welcome.

Our stay at the Maxwell House was so enjoyable. The innkeeper was so sweet and treated us like we were her own children. The sheets were so amazing. The food was delicious. We will definatly stay there again. We have nothing but great things to say about our entire experience.

First time to Walla Walla. What a great place to spend an extended weekend. Wonderful downtown, more wineries than we imagined, 2 great golf courses and the accommodations at the Maxwell House couldn't have been better. The Maxwell House is located adjacent to Whitman College within walking distance from downtown. The accommodations were wonderful, along with the food and service. We will definitely be back.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Maxwell House. We spent a weekend in Walla Walla and were impressed with Penny's (the owner) warmth and hospitality. She made us feel welcome and part of the Walla Walla community. She spoiled us with amazingly delicious breakfasts and homemade cookies and provided wonderful recommendations on activities, wineries, restaurants, etc. We highly recommend the Maxwell House as a terrific place to stay in Walla Walla.

Having visited several Bed & Breakfast homes over the years, I've found The Maxwell House Bed & Breakfast to be my absolute favorite. In addition to a very spacious and relaxing guest suite, guests are welcome to sit in the living room and utilize the microwave. Fresh cookies, coffee, tea, and water are available all day and night as you wish. Penny is truly a gracious host and wonderful cook. Breakfast is quite filling! She made us feel welcome and comfortable. The rooms and bathrooms are very clean and cozy and the bed was so comfortable. I highly recommend staying at The Maxwell House.

Second time staying at the Maxwell House. Always a pleasure, its like staying with warm and caring family. Beautiful rooms, great strolls around the neighborhood, short walk to downtown Will stay there again.

We've stayed in both main floor rooms. They aren't the Four Seasons, but one cannot expect that at a B & B. They are roomy, have charming old fashioned touches, and are spotlessly clean. Penny, our hostess, makes delicious and unusual breakfast dishes. Plan on a light lunch - you may still be full from breakfast. Freshly home-made cookies appear every afternoon at the 24-hour, make-your-own coffee bar. Easy internet access. Comfortable living room for hanging out. Penny is very friendly and as helpful as a personal concierge, not only for dinner recommendations, bike routes, and such, but also for all kinds of problems. ("Forgot my prescriptions home. Where is a good place to get an emergency supply?") We have stayed at Maxwell House maybe 6 times and plan to keep returning.

We have had many happy stays at Maxwell House while visiting our offspring at Whitman College. Penny's hospitality is wonderful: warm, relaxing, delicious meals, comfortable beds and an imaginative host who gives you just the right balance of attention and privacy. Lovely room, Penny is very hospitable, the conversation around the breakfast table lasted close to two hours. You might not get as lucky as we did with the entertaining conversation, but the room, the breakfast, and the convenient location will be delightful.

The "Ravishing Rose" room was so peaceful, welcoming, and comfortable. Breakfast was absolutely delicious, and featured locally produced ingredients. The surrounding neighborhood is charming and in a wonderful location--walking distance to downtown's many wine tasting rooms and great restaurants.

Maxwell House is a classic B&B. Penny is a gracious hostess, helpful and respectful of privacy at the same time. She has a great attention to detail to ensure one's every need is met and includes an amazing number of extra special touches. She took care to find out our eating preferences and accomodate them. The yard is a delightful place to read a book under the pergola, and there is a fountain outside each bedroom window for a pleasant sound that wafts in with the windows open. The location is a pleasant walk to Main St, through the pleasant campus. This was the only place I found in town that offered a mid-week, multi-night special price which made it a great value.

Penny is a lovely host, very friendly and welcoming. We loved our room ( the pink rose room w/ claw foot tub) and enjoyed the privacy of being the only guests during our stay. The house is located in very close proximity to Whitman College and is a 10 minute walk to downtown Walla Walla. Penny is very attentive and accomodating and prepares a delicious breakfast. I highly recommend Maxwell House in Walla Walla!

Great place to stay and explore wine tasting stores and restaurants on foot. Vineyards are only minutes away. Enjoyed runs and bike rides just stepping out of the door. Best of all, Penny's hospitality and great breakfast.

My wife and I spent two nights at the Maxwell house to celebrate our 40th anniversary and thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Penny, the proprieter, was most gracious and eager to please. Her breakfasts were outstanding, and the room was clean and comfortable. The inn is conveniently located and Penny was most helpful in advising us as to things to do in the area during our stay.

Nice garden setting with a sitting porch. Penny is a very gracious hostess and engaging in conversation. We had that immediate comfort in conversation. Fresh cookies in the evening, nice healthy breakfast in the morning at our requested time. Very knowledgable about local restaurants. The most important recommendation - yes, I would stay there again.

We got every bit of our money's worth and more. The room was so well-appointed there was not one thing we were in want of. It was lovely and unlike the last B&B we stayed in, the mattress was of great quality and we slept wonderfully. High thread-count, patterned sheets, lots of towels, claw-foot tub (with a book and candle holder). The main floor lounge was beautiful but accessible and comfortable. I spent several hours reading out there while my husband napped. Beautifully decorated but not like I was in an untouchable museum. The owner is friendly and warm, and seems to know just when you need her and just when you want to be alone. We have been to B&B's where the owner won't leave you alone, or where you cannot find them to save your life. Not here! Last but not least, the breakfasts were incredible. First morning included a lovely quiche and scone and fruit, second morning a rose-patterned waffle with a choice of orange peel maple syrup or homemade rhubarb butter. She has her own house blend of coffee made and it is wonderful. Honestly, we have stayed at lots of lovely B&B's and this was our favorite!! John and Teresa Keene

What a great pleasure to share the Maxwell House with our friends, who thought they didn't like bed and breakfast lodging! Sitting around the living room with our group, borrowing the bikes and hanging around the dining area after breakfast or playing cards at the dining table made us all feel as if we were entertaining each other at home.
