My friend and I had just completed a 5 day hiking tour and wanted a few more days in Vermont before heading home; nothing extravagant or expensive just a country experience. We picked Stone Boat Farm mainly because of the reasonable rates. The location afforded us easy access to Jamaica State Park where we had a wonderful walk along the West River - one of the premier kayak rivers in the country. Geoff made us feel welcome immediately and mentioned the trail behind the farm house - which we hiked the morning we left. The room was very well appointed and the beds super comfortable. We especially appreciated the very comprehensive notebook with suggestions and directions to anything guests could possibly want to know or do. Yes, the property is located on a semi-busy road but a fan in the room created just enough background noise that we never heard the traffic at night. On the last night we were there we cooked a few things in the microwave in the common room (others cooked a steak on the grill outdoors) then took our food and wine outdoors to the screened picnic table beside the babbling brook in the back yard and ate dinner there. Later other guests joined us at a bonfire - again in the back yard - where we shared lively conversation. Unfortunately we did not have a chance to meet Chris, as she was away, but her influence is everywhere at Stone Boat. We loved this place!
