Sherry cordially invited us into her exquisite home, complete with fresh cookies and flowers. My wife, a clean freak, marveled at the cleanliness following a thorough exam. Don't forget to relax in the double Jacuzzi. We will go back.
Bay Haven has well appointed and spotlessly clean rooms. You can 'sit a spell' on the wrap around porch or wander through the beautiful gardens on the property. Easy walk to local park, shops, dining, beach. Tammy, the hostess, makes you feel comfortable and at ease. Great spot!
stayed here for an anniversary visit. great location in downtown norfolk, near cobblestone streets and mansions and the elizabeth river. minutes walk from great restaurants and shopping. greeted by host Sherry who was available for all of our needs. and since breakfast isn't normally until 8am and we had to leave at 7am, she accomodated! the rooms are beautiful and amenities modern. would easily stay again!
On a recent visit to Norfolk, Va. we decided to take an excursion to the Eastern Shore and Cape Charles. We booked a room at the Blue Haven Inn and found it to to be so relaxing, warm and friendly that we decided to spend another night. The accommodations were lovely and very comfortable, but the innkeepers, Tammy and Jim Holloway were the icing on the cake. They were extremely enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and helpful but not overbearing. The town of Cape Charles is very small but don’t let that fool you there are a lot of quiet gems there. There is a beautiful sandy beach on the Chesapeake Bay and a quaint downtown section along Mason Ave. The shops were too numerous to mention by name but sitting on the front porch of Watson’s Hardware is a must. Moonrise Jewelry is also a must with very unique reasonable items created by local artist, Meredith Restein. In the same building Is At Altitude Gallery with breath-taking local works by Gordon Campbell. Do not leave town without making a reservation and eating at Hook U Up Gourmet also on Mason Street owned by Melanie & Chef Tim Brown. This is a very interesting area so have Captain Dave of Cape Charles Boat Tours take you out to some of the barrier islands for a totally different perspective. There are a number of other places at which to eat and enjoy and here is where the innkeepers can be of great assistance. We enjoyed the total experience so much we booked the room again for the same time next year. Cathy & Bob
Loved the beautiful room and gorgeous bathroom! The bed was extraordinarily comfy and the whole home was beautiful. Loved the recommendation for our celebration dinner at Voila, literally could see if from my window. Their food was outstanding! I will definitely be visiting Freemason Inn again!
The Freemason Inn B&B was such delightful place to stay in Norfolk. The rooms are large and clean, and the jacuzzi tub was absolutely phenomenal. The Innkeeper was delightful and chatty at breakfast, and we really enjoyed our stay.
This was supposed to be a very special getaway for me and my husband and it was the most disappointing B&B experience we've ever had. The room we stayed in was okay but nothing special considering it was the bridal suite. We were upgraded to that room because "it's too much work to clear out the room you reserved". There was NO service. No innkeeper greeted us when we arrived, just left keys and a parking permit inside on a table. There was no note and no information about the inn or what was available to us as guests. There was an almost empty roll of toilet paper, no trash can, no glasses, ice bucket, etc. When I called later in the evening for toilet paper and a trash can, a young woman who I assume was "in charge" brought the items to us in her pajamas. No apologies, no inquiry about if we needed anything, no information about breakfast. The next morning when I went down about 7:30 looking for coffee and to find out what time breakfast was, there was NO ONE anywhere to be found. Yesterday's cold coffee on the burner, dirty sandals in front of the buffet, a few used dishes on the table. and a vacuum in the corner. I called to find out what was going on and no one answered or returned my call. I also called the emergency room number on the message and no one answered there either. Finally at 8:15 we decided to leave, as it didn't appear we were getting any breakfast. On the way home, someone, I assume the owner, called and apologized, assuring me he would refund my money. This has not happened yet. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
This was my first time staying at the Country Villa and from the moment we arrived we felt at home. My girlfriend and I stayed for two nights and couldn't have asked for a more relaxing time. Breakfast, when we were ready, made to order, was incredible. The room was clean, and full of amenities. Hot tub, fire place, wine glasses, mini fridge, comfortable bed. The owners are incredibly hospitable, friendly, warm, and welcoming. Ask them where to eat and you'll no doubt get great recommendations. We feel like family now that we've stayed and can't wait to come back.
The Freemason Inn was a lovely place to stay . You can imagine that you are in Europe, with the lite rail running past the inn, the coffee shop steps away and an excellent international restaurant next door. The caretaker was welcoming and attentive to our needs and the Inn is warm and inviting.
What a delight to stay at Bay Haven Inn of Cape Charles during the Eastern Shore of Viriginia Birding Festival! Not only was it handy to all the activities, it is a few blocks from the beach, and backs up to a lovely park. A wrap around porch, one portion of which is screened, enables one to enjoy birds and flowers and lovely landscaping. Rooms are filled with natural light, furnished beautifully -- and I had a wonderfully comfortable bed in the Georgie Wilson Room, with a private bath. Breakfasts were magnificient! Had I not had to hurry off with my binoculars, I could have lingered and lingered at the breakfast table. The Hollaways, our hosts are gracious and hospitable and made everyone feel right at home!
What a delightful visit on Virginia's Eastern Shore: Bay Haven Inn, Cape Charles' Lovely old house, beautifully restored and tastefully furnished, with the requisite wrap-around porch, set in lush landscaped grounds, backing up to the community park. And the best part: Hosts Tammy and Jim make you feel so welcome, the rooms are gracious and so comfortable - and the breakfasts are fabulous!
We spent Labor Day weekend at the inn. Petie and Phil make you feel as if you are a part of their family. They take every detail into consideration to make your stay special so you never want to leave. From the décor of the room to making sure you have every thing you want for your breakfast, I cannot say enough about the two of them and the extra mile they go to ensure your stay is one you will not forget and want to experience over and over. Mike and I so look forward to seeing you again soon!
Tammy and Jim were the perfect hosts. Our only minor concerns were that our room was a bit chilly (solved that by opening the windows) and breakfast was a little sweet for our tastes. Otherwise, I highly recommend this lovely B&B. It is easy walking distance to dinner at The Oyster Farm, the beach on the Bay, and the artsy gift shops. We loved meeting the other 3 friendly couples, and we will be back. The hosts are focused on providing excellent customer care.
We enjoyed our night at Bay Haven Inn. Unfortunately, it was too short! Next time we plan on staying a few more nights. The Inn is beautiful, our room was great, and the food delicious. My fiance is still talking about the breakfast. :-)
Bay Haven Inn is the best B&B in Cape Charles from what I saw, and there are lots to choose from in the intimate community. Cape Charles is such a restful, eclectic little town and the environment within the Inn is the same. The house is just gorgeous and the owners have outdone themselves making it feel cozy. My husband and I enjoyed coffee on the wraparound porch both mornings while we waited for breakfast. Jim and Tammy really know their history of the area, too! They are full of interesting tidbits. Tammy makes some of the best breakfast I've ever laid tastebuds on, implementing fresh fruits and vegetables straight from her garden. The only thing I would change is the time breakfast is served (advertised as 8:30 but served at 9:00 both mornings we were there). Don't get me wrong, it was well worth the wait! However for someone who might like to make use of their day kayaking or getting an early start to explore the area, it's a little late. I will say, however, the theme of the weekend seemed to be "Rest, relax and lose track of time" which we very much needed. All-in -all a wonderful experience which I would gladly relive in a heartbeat.
Tammy & Jim´s hospitality was simply outstanding. The room in particular, and the inn in general are simply unforgettable. That Buhara rug was the most. We´ll definitively try to come back for some further celebration.
We stayed here over the 4th of July weekend and it was everything you always hope you will find in a B&B but rarely do. Friendly, helpful hosts Tammy & Jim welcome you warmly, help you find a good place to eat, and point you to where you want to go and then leave you to enjoy the tranquility of this lovely, spotless home and the gardens. The breakfast both mornings we were exceptional, just the right portions with outstanding coffee, which is available as early as 7--we enjoyed ours on the porch! We definitely plan to stay here again when visiting Cape Charles.
We could not have asked for a better experience at this B&B. From the moment we started conversing with the owner Tammy to the minute we walked out and said our good-byes, she was amazing! The house is gorgeous, quaint and perfect location. The town of Cape Charles is delightful and just what we were looking for to sneak away for a bit. The breakfast meal was delicious, as well as all the little extra goodies Tammy and her husband made available for us during the stay. My absolute favorite part of the house though was the front porch swing. It was so peaceful and relaxing in the evenings. I highly recommend this B&B and can't wait to visit again!
My husband and I stayed here for our 15th wedding anniversary. Our room was lovely. There was a bottle of wine and cookies in our room upon our arrival. Everything was beautiful and clean. Petie gave us a great recommendation for dinner, and then we came back and enjoyed the hot tub and pool. The breakfast was outstanding. There were three courses and all were fabulous. We will definitely stay here again!
My wife and I recently stayed here in celebration of our Anniversary. The hosts greeted us on the front porch upon our arrival, gave us a tour and very interesting history of the house and original owners. The character of house is very respectable. The woodwork throughout the house screams historic beauty. The hosts have thought out every aspect to assure that their guests relax and have a blast during their stay. The landscape and gardens can make a master gardener envious. They have multiple seating spots for their afternoon "wine time". The Cape Charles beach is very impressive with over 100 yards of beach from the dunes to the water. Lots of open space to enjoy the beach without feeling crowded. We definitely recommend this B&B and we will be back to stay again very soon!
This has been by far the best experience we have ever had Petie and Phil are both very friendly and very sweet our stay was amazing very private very romantic the food was out of this word the crepes and french toast is a must the best I have ever had. If you are looking for a place to stay this is definitely it you will not be disappointed. My husband does not eat eggs and Petie was nice enough to go out of her way to make him sausage and cheese crepes, we will definitely be back.
