Good Morning, I would love to respond to your inquiry about our stay at 200 South Street Inn this past weekend. It was wonderful. Literally from the second we walked onto the property until the morning we left, we felt welcomed and taken care of! All of the staff were more than just helpful, they treated us as if they were really excited we were there and the entire experience was like being somewhere we have been before and loved to be. All of the guests were the same way due to the caring and pleasant environment everyone created. The continental breakfasts were beyond measure!!! The evening wine and appetizer spread was delicious and so very plentiful. Our room was cozy and kept very clean at all times. Especially loved our little #4 room. The location of the Inn was so close to everything...we were able to get to the places we wanted to go to see and eat by walking. Oh, and not to mention the incredible Farmer's Market across the street on Saturday mornings. What a perfect location for your Inn. So, we thank you for not only your accommodations and the many amenities...we thank you for the caring atmosphere and staff that you have. 200 South Street Inn will definitely be our place to come again when we visit Charlottesville. We will also recommend it highly to friends and family. Blessings and thank you again, Donna and Scott

My husband and I stayed here to break up our drive after dropping our daughter off for college in North Carolina. We loved the Charlottesville area but wanted to get away from the cookie cutter hotels we had been staying in. The room was gorgeous and very clean. The staff was friendly and attentive. They had a lovely social hour with wine and cheese late afternoon and several guests seemed to be enjoying this on the patio. It was all delicious and very well done. The downtown area is full of great boutiques, places to dine and great little pubs and within easy walking distance. We enjoyed a nice evening out and afterwards came back to sit on the porch with a bottle of wine. There was a thunderstorm the evening we were there so it was great to just sit and watch the rain with a glass of wine in hand. We had coffee the next morning and even though there was a nice breakfast offered we aren't big breakfast fans and opted for lunch in town instead. We are planning on staying here again after we visit our daughter for fall break and look forward to seeing Charlottesville in the fall!

My fiance and I stayed here during a visit for cville. The location is very convenient. It is just a few minute walk to the downtown mall as well as the stop for the free trolley. The room was clean & beautiful and the AC worked perfectly (mid-July, 90 F+ temps outside). The price was competitive with the Omni Hotel downtown, but the personal touches and unique rooms make the South Street Inn a much better value. They very kindly provided both vegetarian and gluten free breakfast options for me and my fiance. We can't wait to return to cville and stay here!

We loved our visit to South Street! The hosts were wonderful - gave great info on places to go and things to see. We had breakfast on the wrap-around porch each morning ... it was a walk to explore downtown Charlottesville - very convenient! We will be back South Street - thank you!

As a heads-up, the train vibrates the entire house, not just the room closest to the tracks. The rumbling woke me up and the screeching from the wheels woke my wife up. The pictures are somewhat deceiving as the upkeep of the rooms and the layout was not what we expected. Our initial service was great, and having a person on premises all evening is nice, but when I went to check-out I had to wait a long time. Perhaps this could be solved with a bell being put on the desk. The absolute best part about this B&B is its location. While the trip was not as plush/romantic as I intended, it really helped that we were within walking distance to so many things. There are many places to choose from in Charlottesville so I do not anticipate coming back.

My boyfriend and I stayed here over a recent weekend. What a lovely and hospitable place! Some of the furniture in our room (#18) was rustic at best, but nothing a little makeover and some WD-40 couldn't fix. We were pleasantly surprised with the room; given its description of "compact" on the Inn's website, I had expected the room to be much smaller. The wine and cheese reception was very nice and provided a welcome snack after a long day of sightseeing! The fresh cookies were fantastic too. Perfect location with easy access to the downtown pedestrian mall, lots of restaurants and the free shuttle to the university campus. Thanks for a wonderful stay! Maggie

My wife and I stayed there for three nights on the recommendation of a colleague. Great breakfast of cakes, bread, yogurt, fruit and coffee/tea/juice. Great wine and cheese happy hour every night. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Book early to get a good room, however. We booked last minute and ended up in a basement room with little light or room, let alone fireplace and/or hot tub.

We enjoyed our stay. Rooms are older but comfortable. The cookies, fresh fruit bowl and wine and cheese are great additions. The location is just a block from downtown mall with shops and restaurants and the pavilion so lots to do in walking distance. Staff is friendly and helpful and I loved the continental breakfast with granola, Greek yoghurt, fruits, brads and fresh squeezed oj.

My wife and I escaped for the weekend of Aug 22 and loved our stay. All the reasons for staying at an Inn and not a hotel were here. A fun staff that allowed us to be curious and ask questions. They gave great recommendations for things to do. I would definitely come back again. Ask for the rooms with the sitting rooms. Room 9 was a good one. Really good staff!

We have stayed in Bed and Breakfast Inns around the the country and in the UK. We were disappointed for several reasons. The most important is the breakfast. We have always been served a full breakfast at a dining table. The inn serves a cold buffet of pastries, cereal, fruits in a basket and yogurt; less than a Holiday Inn buffet. The same pastry was served the next morning, stale. We were moved from our first room because of a plumbing issue. The rooms are adequate, but need a paint job. The ambiance was muted because the television is mounted to the wall and the wires hang down in full view. The furniture may be antique but is not functional. The armoire doors were in bad repair and the dresser drawers were a struggle to open. We will not visit again.

Wonderful location, conveniently located to shopping and restaurants, superb service, charming B&B nestled in the middle of the action, and wonderful treats throughout the day. Will return again! - Jill and Ryan

I greatly enjoyed my stay at the inn recently. Inclusion of the wine and cheese hours and continental breakfast make the quaint space hard to resist even if the bathrooms are a little less plush than the Omni down the street. We stayed in the second cottage which was very quiet for the most part (not sure if a house manager's child or guest's child was unhappy one morning but we only heard the child one of our two mornings there). Great to be within walking distance of the downtown mall and have parking to boot. I will try to book here again in the future.

We had a marvelous stay here in Room 5 of the South Street Inn. The moment I walked in there was the amazing smell of fresh-baked cookies, which were offered at all hours at the front desk. The room was beautiful with a fire already lit, and the bathroom clean with a nice big tub (which we filled with about a foot of bubbles later that evening--I recommend). Wine & cheese hour held some truly superb cheeses, and the breakfast in the morning was so tempting I needed to try all five types of breads, which were indeed delicious. I suppose it would have been nice to have had some kind of hot-cooked items like eggs, etc., but they make no pretense on the website that there will be, and I was certainly stuffed from the breads, fruits, granola, and yogurt. The service was excellent--when my boyfriend and I stupidly turned off the pilot light on our fireplace one of the women came in & tried to light it for about ten minutes (it was very confusing), & happily left us with the lighter to try ourselves, which we eventually figured out. To address some complaints on other sites (such as noise issues), I did not notice any noise from other guests & when the train went by the windows did rattle quite a bit, but I jammed them with towels & all was quiet. So yes, it is an old house and rattles some, but honestly that's the charm! We wanted to stay in a beautiful old house, and that's what we got.

We came in for the Dave Matthews concert and were very impressed with this Inn!! There was always something fresh baking and it smelled delicious every time we walked in! And, everyone was so personable and welcoming! I would definitely return and recommend them to others!!

The large main house was built in 1856 for a family, later converted to a bordello (the history & renovation pix are in the library). I was there when the $110/night specials were being run in Dec. & Jan. -- during the week only 3 rooms were booked. It was perfect. Yes, the house creaks and things are old, but it was very clean & quite elegantly furnished. Yes... the train does come thru in the middle of the night and shakes the whole house -- it adds to the atmosphere. If you live in a vinyl village S/D and you require sterile & quiet surroundings when you travel (including 10 electrical outlets in your room and a marble vanity in your bathroom), by all means book the Omni or the Hampton while in C-Ville -- you will be much happier, and so will the 200 South owners. To me it was like visiting Grandma's house... if Granny lived on the CSX... and was a hooker. So much history & charm... and I walked everywhere (I'm almost 70) on the nearby historical outdoor mall -- good restaurants. Imagine reading the Jon Meacham book about Jefferson with a fire in your fireplace in your room. Desk people were lovely -- Annette even called Monticello for me to get an idea of the best time for me to go for the tour. Library/ breakfast/ wine&cheese room was comfy... with overflow downstairs. You will need to carry your bags up a flight even to the 1st floor -- there are stairs everywhere. If booked solid, there could be parking issues & noise issues on creaky floors above you. It is a very old house in a terrrific location in the historic section -- if that appeals to you, you will have a wonderful time. Otherwise don't even consider it. BTW, I am not sure I would pay $300/night to stay here -- I will have to debate that with myself if I go to C-Ville again during peak season... but I would go up to $250 just for the fun it all.

South St Inn is an exceptionally comfortable and beautiful place to stay. Everyone working there is enjoyable, informative, and thoughtful. You could not have a better place to stay in Charlottesville.
