The innkeepers are delightful people who do all the right things to make their guests comfortable. The inn isn't elegant, but it has solid comfort in a spectacular setting, and the staff goes out of its way to provide whatever is desired. I left feeling like it was home -- a rarity in a hotel of any kind. An unexpected extra is the quality of the dining room. That's rare in so small a place and makes a visit worthwhile by itself.
The graciousness of the staff was/is exceptional. From the welcome to our having to leave early because of a turned ankle, folks were ready to help in any way they could. And how delightful to be greeted at breakfast by Dick and Sally. We found the value of our stay to be exceptional as well.... very reasonable prices for an exceptional facility and touch of the old world of vacationing in the mountains. And the view.... breathtaking every time one looks out. Fred and Margee
We were swept away by the beauty surrounding this Inn. The natural beauty of the area was complimented by the beautiful grounds all around the property and the Inn itself was a picture from a post card. Each room that we explored gave us the same feeling of being welcomed and comforted as though we were walking into a much loved older relatives home. Our room was very comfortable and exceptionally clean and had the view everyone dreams of when they think of being in the mountains. The delicious meals and the view from the dining room kept us going back for more. Venturing out to the towns around the inn and enjoying the beauty of the area and some of the local eating establishments confirmed that we had made the right choice of location for our vacation. Our stay at the Inn at Sunset Hill was perfect and we give an extra star for all the work Dudley, the big friendly dog, did keeping our granddaughter entertained. According to her he was the best part of her vacation!
The staff functions beautifully as a team creating a casual yet very gracious atmosphere. When an emergency crept up for us, folks couldn't have been more supportive. The Inn at Sunset Hill has been and will continue to be our go to place for our anniversary each year.
The Inn at Sunset Hill was the perfect spot for us! It's location was beautiful and peaceful while being close enough to all of the area attractions that we could easily set off on adventures for the day. When one in our party got sick during our stay the staff went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. We couldn't ask for better!
We had a wonderful stay at the sugar hill inn! Steven and Karen were absolutely amazing! Karen was spot on with her recommendations from things to do to in the area to suggesting places for lunch! Thanks to her we visited the beautiful flume gorge which is stunning and to earn our delicious meal we hiked 6 miles up to lonesome lake which was again one of her recommendationsThe views up there were totally worth The room was lovely and charming and the meal we had was outstanding ! Hats off to Chef Val Fortin- dinner is highly recommended ¿¿. The staff were lovely and provided such excellent service !! We also took advantage of their massage therapist and she was brilliant We will definitely recommend the charming sugar hill inn to our friends back home in London Michelle & Jonny
This was our second stay at the Inn. We intend on coming back in October for the Fall foliage. The location is exquisite -- so are the facilities and the hosts: Dick & Sally. They know what they are doing -- they are making it a first class, elegant but informal and friendly place to stay. And of course there is Dudley!!! He is the grandest friendliest sheep dog you can imagine. Would highly recommend a visit to one and all. Rudy and Cathy Fiorillo, Tolland, Ct. Visited for the Lupine Festival (PS Inn At Sunset Hill is right in the middle of the Lupine Fields -- just glorious.
This is a wonderful, cozy Inn with sunsets that you would die for. The new owners have really spruced up the place and they constantly circulate throughout the dining room mingling with the guests. Their English accents were always a hit! Clean rooms, exceptional service - everything you would want in a nice inn tucked away in the mountains of NH. Only less than perfect part - while the breakfasts were delicious, the dinner menu was a bit limited, with too much of the "usual" stuff. But I'm sure they will work on this because this is a place worth staying at and upping the menu will only make your stay even more spectacular.
This Inn has everything. The location is perfect--nestled beautifully in the mountains and only a 30 minute drive to any section of the White Mountains. Remember, this Inn was built in the late 1800s, and this is part of the charm. Each room is unique because of its age. Having seen most of the rooms, it is safe to say that you cannot go wrong. Odd numbered rooms get the morning sun and the White Mtns.; even numbered rooms get sunset and the Green Mtns. The staff are spectacular. Friendly, knowledgeable and caring. Last but not least, Dudley, the Inn's Old English Sheepdog, serves as greeter and inspector general. Super job Dudley.
My wife and I don't really think of ourselves as "B&B" people. But our recent stay at the Inn at Sunset Hill might change our minds. The historic property is delightful, in a gorgeous setting, but it is the owners of the Inn that are the stars. We were running a bit late to check in, and they made sure the restaurant staff remained ready to serve us a delicious dinner before they closed for the evening. In the morning the cook-to-order eggs, bacon and toast were really superb. My wife loved the home-made granola with fruit & yogurt. We chuckled a bit at the sloping floors in the old building, but it was in immaculate condition - very clean. And we loved Dudley, the English sheep dog that roams the premises making sure everyone is having a good time. If you're looking for a peaceful retreat in the heart of New Hampshire - this is your place.
We loved our stay here! The Inn is in such a beautiful location and the hosts are absolutely wonderful! Our room was wonderful and the bed was really comfortable. I loved the way the room was decorated! They made our little dog feel right at home! We wanted to eat there at the restaurant, and we had a wonderful experience...the service was very good, and we had a beautiful view from our table. The food at dinner was a on the heavy side for my taste and lacked ingredient imagination, but the breakfast was absolutely wonderful! We would definitely go back! :-)
My wife and I were looking for a romantic home base between a few winter hikes in the white mountains. The inn on sunset hill exceeded our every expectation. Dudley alone was enough to keep us coming back, but the food was amazing, the owners made you feel so welcome, the rooms were clean and pleasant and the views were astounding. Not to mention it was very affordable. 5 stars aren't enough
In spite of the coldest weather in decades, and the lack of copies amounts of snow, and in the face of a broken water pipe in the Pub, the stay was quite pleasant and the service outstanding (literally when it came to bar service the next day, outstanding in the snug). The kitchen kept running and the beers flowing, all taken in stride.
It was as rated, outstanding, and the owners hard working and very accommodating. Breakfast is always tops but never the same; Dinners, satisfyingly rich. The only suggestion for the owners is that they advise guests with king sized beds how to adjust the softness or stiffness of the mattress.
We enjoyed ourselves. They are very helpful to answering any questions and to let us know what was happening in the area. The wonderful view of our room and dining table was outstanding to see the snow covered mountains. Our meals made to order was extremely delicious. They surely made us feel right at home. R. Bevis
Arrived to do some Plein air painting mid-week.. Delighted to find all the space in the world to set up on a covered porch... And inside on the lower level, with wall of sliders, good light, space to spread out.... , coffee, hot chocolate, bathroom right there too... And the best part, we could leave all our stuff set up..... Easels, paints, supplies, etc. .etc.. Would go again, as it was affordable...clean and very comfortable and sitting rooms with fireplaces in many rooms. .. .
From the warm owner welcoming, to the perfectly charming room, to the incredible dining... This place rocked! We enjoyed one of the best meals we've had in years at the Sugar Hill Inn. We also took advantage of their talented massage therapist on-site. She was equally amazing. This was a Great experience that will surely have us coming back.
We stayed for the weekend. We hoped to cross country ski locally but there was not enough snow. The owners of the B&B were really helpful, researching conditions at other places and giving us great advice about skiing, skating and hiking.
The place was wonderful and the view of the snow top mountains are spectacular . The owners and staff where very friendly and informative of the area towns. They made us feel like home. We had breakfast and dinner here and it fabulous. Made the dish the way you liking. We highly recommend this golden gem of a place to family r friends.
This is our second time staying at the Inn and no place around can compare. The owners are so nice, the staff extremely helpful right down to ensuring my food at dinner was allergen-free and our room was so cozy. There was a gas fireplace, the room was immaculate and the view of the mountains was breathtaking. Sally and Dick have made Sunset Hill feel like home, so much so that we didn't want to leave. My girlfriend has a leg problem and the owners wanted to know if there was anything they could do to help her with the stairs. They are truly caring people. And who could forget Dudley....the sweetest most well-behaved dog ever who also gave us a warm welcome. If you're looking for a quaint and homey place to stay no matter what the season, the Inn at Sunset Hill is definitely the place! We will be back! We are also recommending this place to all of our friends and family. Thank you.....Mark & Lorrie
