We stayed here for 2 nights after visiting San Francisco, we would have liked to have stayed longer! Our hosts Linda and Johan couldn't do enough for us, gave us recommendations on what to do and where to eat, spoilt us with great breakfasts and treated us to happy hour drinks and snacks in front of the fire in the evenings. Our room was so attractive, cosy and clean with every extra you could think of including bathrobes, coffee making facilities and a fridge. The location was great, you can walk down to the lake in about 10 minutes. I would not hesitate to recommend this lovey lodge!
We were the only guests at the inn for one night and wanted to stay near the Heavenly California lift so this was perfect. Except that I didn't realize the Frontier Room was on the road: very loud traffic noise most of the evening and it started up again very early in the morning. I wished I had asked to move to a room in the back as the road noise was deafening and we had not brought ear plugs! Otherwise, a good experience: the breakfast was outstanding and the wine and cheese very nice. I would go back but would not choose the Frontier Room again.
My husband and I stayed here for out anniversary and we're just so pleased with the whole experience. The innkeepers, Johan and Linda, we're extremely kind. There was an amazing homemade breakfast every morning, fresh cookies in our room every day and a great happy hour each evening. We will definitely be staying here again and will be referring family and friends if they ever come to Lake Tahoe.
My husband and I recently visited the B&B in February to celebrate our anniversary. We have been to the b&b 2 previous times and both times stayed in the main building. This time we took a cabin and although it did not snow (which we had hoped) we wanted to be able to watch the snow. The "Happy Hour" which was wine & cheese. Very enjoyable to sit and chat with the other guests. Breakfast was served every morning. The best day was Sunday as they served Eggs Benedict. The other 2 days were also good. We will be back again hopefully when it snows.
My husband and I stayed at the Black Bear Inn for a weekend of relaxing and skiing - it couldn't have been more perfect for either. Situated on Ski Run road, the B&B is less than 3 minutes from Heavenly and even has a bus stop outside so you don't need to deal with parking. They have a ski room to store boots, skis and boards in so your equipment doesn't get cold in the car overnight. The B&B itself has been designed with impeccable taste - comfortable and pleasing to the eye, it was hard to get ourselves to leave! We immediately felt at home with Kevin and Jerry - they are phenomenal hosts. The morning breakfasts (8:30-9:30) are to die for, and we loved the fireside wine and cheese (5:00-6:00) chats. We know where we will be staying on our future visits to Tahoe and highly recommend that you make the Black Bear Inn your B&B of choice!
Once again my wife and I had the opportunity to stay at the Lodge. This being our ??? number of times back (at least twice a year). Linda and Johann make you feel at home and part of the family with great rooms, cocktail happy hour, and breakfast--all for a great price. Love the people and the place and will be back!!
As a lover of beautiful furnishings, fine food, and stimulating people, we can't say enough good things about Jerry and Kevin's Black Bear Inn. We very much appreciate the combination of their ability to present a AAA experience while making it look so casual and easy. The best recommendation we can give others is to say that we will definately return.
Perfect getaway spot. The property is beautifully designed, the service and food exceptional. The owners have good attention to detail and professionalism, with the right amount of customer personalization to make you feel taken care of. If you're looking for a romantic trip in the mountains, this location has great privacy with access to south Lake Tahoe just past the front doorstep.
Linda and Johan were some of the nicest people I've met. They go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable. The breakfast and cocktail hour was an incredible part of our stay here. The location is also perfect on the way to the California lodge at Heavenly.
We really enjoyed the hospitality of Linda and Johan. The breakfasts were amazing as were the cocktail hours with yummy appetizers and generous cocktails. We were able to meet and chat with the other guests. By breakfast time it was like we knew the other guests quite well. Linda and Johan were amazing at going out of their way to honor all of our requests and provide directions and lots of advice and recommendations of places to snowshoe and x-country ski. Dining suggestions were a home run every time! The truly cared about making our stay as comfortable and relaxing as possible.
What a great BnB! We stayed at the Black Bear Inn during Christmas and it was everything we hoped for. Jerry and Kevin are the best hosts, who provide fantastic breakfasts and supported in all questions we had. Although we were almost snowed in, they constantly kept the driveways clean and snow-free. We can recommend anyone to go to this BnB - we are sure you won't be disappointed. You simply can't.
The Donner Lake Inn is an excellent B & B with good access to Donner Lake and Truckee CA. Paul and Mindy are exceptional hosts with lots of personality and lots of info about the area including restaurants, drives, hikes and other local activity. The B & B and the rooms are well maintained. They have quality beds, linens, towels, robes etc. There is a newer hot tub on the property for viewing of the stars, relaxing, etc. An afternoon snack with drinks is provided and early coffee is also available. Paul and Mindy seem to know what their guests will want and they are very accommodating. The breakfast was fantastic and on the morning that we were there it was homemade with red, white and blue accents since it was Veterans Day-they are very appreciative of Veterans. The breakfast was communal and provided an interesting and informative conversation. This is our second time at the Donner Lake Inn and the first time was excellent and it has only gotten better!

Every breakfast was Pinterest worthy! Forget the normal simple scrambled eggs and hash brown, this breakfast is gourmet every day. My wife and I made it a point to wake up at 8:20 am every morning to make sure we made it to 8:30 am breakfast -- and we're not morning people. We also made it a point to make it back for complimentary wine and cheese every day at 5 pm! We stayed in the Black Bart Cabin and it was quaint, comfortable, and private with it's own kitchenette, large bathroom, fireplace, and king size bed. It felt like home in the Inn's backyard garden. If you're looking for a rustic cabin getaway you'll be quite comfortable. The Black Bear Inn is walking distance to the lake, a few fantastic restaurants, Heavenly Ski resort, and just a few minutes drive from pretty much everything in South Lake Tahoe. Jerry and Kevin always very helpful with restaurant recommendations and they have some great stories if you spend some time hanging around with a glass of wine. We were genuinely sad to leave and plan to stay here again on our next trip out to Tahoe!
We spent 3 nights at Black Bear Inn in South Lake Tahoe the end of July. This was one of the most special b&bs we have stayed in. The actual Inn is beautifully decorated and furnished. Our rooms were upstairs and very private and comfortable. There are cabins in the back by the gardens that have kitchens. The breakfast each morning was outstanding. For any who are not comfortable with family style breakfast relax...you are seated in a common room with only your party yet still close enough to visit if you choose. The grounds are beautiful and we enjoyed having wine and cheese on the patio in the late afternoon. Jerry and Kevin are wonderful hosts and will direct you to whatever activity or site you might want to visit. This is definitely a wonderful place to stay in Tahoe!!!!
Jerry & Kevin took great care of us! The breakfasts are fabulous, the rooms are quiet, the beds are comfy. We even had to leave for an excursion before the scheduled breakfast on Sunday (hated to miss those Eggs Benedict's) and they put us together a "to go" sandwich of bagels & eggs. It was wonderful as well and kept us fueled up as we tackled the Rubicon Trail on ATV's. This was a surprise trip for my wife's 50th B-day. It was worth everything! Would stay there again.
We found Black Bear Inn on line and it far exceeded our expectations. We stayed in a Cabin and it was quiet and nestled among the pines. Jerry and Kevin took care of all our dinner reservations and made us feel very welcome. The breakfast they provide is 5 star and even shared a recipe. We'll definitely return. We enjoyed this little haven for two nights while visiting Lake Tahoe in May. It is conveniently situated close to the lake but well set back from busy Hwy. 50 on Pioneer Trail. The cabins are cozy warm in cold weather and the bed was wonderfully comfortable. The owners are extremely hospitable and extended us a very warm reception and a friendly atmosphere throughout our stay. The bed and breakfast format includes a plentiful hot breakfast and a wine and cheese hour in the evenings. We stayed during the low season when things were pretty quiet but I think it would be a terrific spot for skiers in winter, only a few hundred yards from the slopes. We would definitely go back again.
The best part of our stay was the hosts, Johan and Linda. They were very accommodating and met all of our needs. Linda gave us recommendations on restaurants and attractions within Tahoe/Nevada while we checked in. The rooms were exactly what we were expecting and they were quite delightful. The lodge is in a great location on Ski Run Boulevard. Off the main street, but very close to great restaurants and shops. If you stay there, make sure you attend their happy hour. It's a lovely time and we attended every day we stayed. We will definitely make it a point to stay there again next time we're in Tahoe. We are repeat guests for life!
