This is a basic, no frills B&B. It was a good value for us as it served our purpose to stay on the coast and not spend a lot of money. Pleasantly surprised to have a suite with a microwave, refrigerator and separate sitting room from the bedroom. The innkeepers were very nice and informational. Breakfast was French toast, fruit and microwaved bacon...not gourmet if that is what you are looking for. Not much in this town, but we knew that from other posts and had dinner in Newport before we arrived here.
My family of three had a wonderful 3-day stay at Resting On The Rock B&B. Facilities are super clean and comfortable. The hosts are accommodating and we left feeling like we had made friends. Short walk to a great beach with active tide pools and indeed it does have seals on rocks as well. Short distance to Beaver Creek (Ona Park) where we had a marvelous experience with a guided kayak tour. Short drive to Hatfield Marine Ctr. I cannot think of anything negative to say in regards to our accommodations at all! If you get a chance - go!
Penny is a gracious hostess, sharing her home, her crafts, and her family with guests. My daughter and I booked the sunset room and enjoyed watching the skies darken over the Pacific. The room was spacious with extras like movies, books, a private bath, and plenty of pillows. We scheduled our breakfast time and were called down by beautiful music to blueberry French toast with wild berries from the yard. Penny's art is amazing and she keeps a beautiful home. For more space, the other room includes a kitchenette and sitting room. The grounds are also beautiful with all kinds of birds gathering at feeders. I wish we had planned to stay more than one night. Penny goes the extra mike. She even mailed my daughter's phone charger to our home address. Knowing I was a scrapbooker, she also supplied brochures and beautiful cards to take with us. I would change a thing. It was fabulous.
My husband and I enjoyed two days at Resting on a Rock. The owner was very helpful in providing information about the local area (state parks, restaurants, etc.). The breakfast meals were delicious and presented very nice. The room was equipped with a kitchenette and all the amenities we wanted. We would definitely stay there again.
AMAZZZING.... I wish we could have stayed here the whole honeymoon! Relaxing, Fun, Food was amazing... Mrs. Penny Made sure we had everything that we needed... Very fun Couple....made you feel like family. Could not rate it to highly! BY FAR the best place we stayed. There is a short walk to the beach and when you get down to it you are pretty much alone....Great place to get away from it all! Me and my wife need to save up money because we want to go back VERY soon.
My husband made reservations to stay here for our honeymoon. When we arrived we were made to feel welcome. The room was beautiful and comfortable and We slept great listening to the ocean out the window. The breakfasts were delicious and Penny was very accommodating when it came to our food restrictions. It was the little touches while we were there, like the flowers and card left in our room, that made us feel special. We left vowing to return each year for our anniversary and have made it so far.
Resting on the Rock provided a peaceful place to stay on the Central Coast near busy Newport. The Sunset Room was well designed with everything that 3 of us needed. Penny and David Mackey were wonderful hosts, and offered information on farmers markets and restaurants, local birds and the resident pod of whales. Penny's breakfasts were superb! Be sure to checkout the children's book nook, David's trains and Penny's weavings.
We stayed here in July 2012 and really enjoyed it. The hosts were delightful, and it was quiet and a short walk from a beautiful beach. It's close to Newport but not right in town, which we liked. An added bonus is that Penny is very flexible with the menu and can work with people on special diets (gluten free and other food allergies/sensitivities). The breakfasts we had were delicious.
We recently stayed at Resting on the Rock with our two children. It was a wonderful experience - like staying at the grandparents' house. Breakfast was homemade, large, and delicious. Our food allergies were all accommodated. The suite had a private entrance and was very roomy. And Penny was so friendly, accommodating, and helpful with everything. Very enjoyable!
We stayed here for three nights. It did not exceed our expectations because we knew what to expect from our visit the previous year; that's why we came back. The hosts are terrific and provided us with some excellent suggestions for hikes, etc. The bed was very comfy and the room is spacious.
We stayed here with our two children! The couple running this couldn't have been nicer. They were very accommodating, even asking about food allergies. The room was great! It had it's own entrance, bathroom, and kitchenette. It was perfect for our family's needs.
This was the first time I've been to a B&B where I felt truly supported in my stay - as a home away from home. Everything went smoothly, service was great, price was excellent - all in all, just fantastic.
My husband, son and I recently stayed in the Sunset room at Resting on the Rock. It was a very enjoyable experience, to say the least. The room has a wonderful view of the ocean, the owners were very hospitable and caring, and the B&B is right off the freeway which makes it easy to find and also convenient for sightseeing. Leaving the window open at night was bittersweet, though: the sound of the waves crashing on the shore was unbelievably soothing, but the noise of the freeway made it difficult to hear at times. Thankfully, there's not many cars at night so it wasn't a big issue. The greatest thing about staying here, though, was definitely how much the owners genuinely cared. They would play with our year and a half year old son while we enjoyed our breakfast, they accommodated my strict dietary needs with ease, and they had lots of toys for our son to play with. They chatted with us as if we were family or old friends. The bed and breakfast is very clean, neat and cozy. The rooms are even more spacious than they appear in the pictures, and the garden behind the property is simply amazing. Family pictures adorn their walls, so it truly feels like you're staying at grandma's house while you enjoy the wonderful beaches and sites located around the area. The beach is a five minute walk from the B&B, and there's lots of restaurants nearby as well. In short, you won't regret staying here the next time you're out on the Oregon coast. In fact, I bet you will be thoroughly delighted and already planning your next stay at Resting on the Rock.
