This was our 5th stay at the Castle in the Country and it was just as pleasant as the others. Ruth and the staff always have good recommendations for things to do and new places to try. The breakfast was delicious, and provided a great start to the days. The views from our room and on the grounds do not disappoint. Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer. We can't wait to go back.
We stayed for one night on our way to Traverse City. We found the Castle in the Country to be beautiful, clean and relaxing. Ruth provides much attention to detail in the decorating and comfort of your stay. She was very helpful to us in determining were we would want to spend our limited amount of time and found that she was right on the money. Her recommendations did not fail us. Breakfast was wonderful. My husband and I are both gluten free and they made every effort to accommodate us. We stayed in one of the smaller rooms and that was fine for what we needed, but would recommend any of the suites they have on the property. We were able to view all of the rooms before we left and they are wonderful for a romantic getaway.
I recently stayed at Pigeon Creek over the long Labor Day weekend. My daughter and I were in Summer Suite which is decorated in a glorified Holiday Inn style. In fact, it looks like the furniture may have been acquired from a motel furniture closeout sale. No dresser with drawers, a weird little couch, and a TV with only 3 stations available. Brown sheets and ugly green towels. Shower is huge, so If you need to fit a football team in there, you're in luck. Each morning as we climbed the stairs, we were greeted with a weird art-ish type large picture of Jack on his motorcycle. Not B and B-ish. Breakfasts were delicious, but no seconds. And you get what you get. I've stayed in many B and Bs and the most successful are run by women. I can see why now. Don't count on homey, comfy rooms - but functional and quiet.
I stayed at the Bed & Breakfast twice this summer, once with a group of girls and again with another couple. Both times were wonderful. We loved having a porch for games in the evening. The location was perfect -- we could walk everywhere. The breakfast was good and delivered hot and on time. And the hosts were friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay there again.
Very nice stay definently a great choice to get away with your significant other had a great time. Service was amazing very well prepared and planned had great information and maps for everything to do nearby.
Pardon my tardiness on the review, my wife and I stayed here in August of 2012. Kathy and Michael were wonderful hosts, and were friendly and personable while maintaining privacy. The food was excellent and the house/property was beautiful and peaceful. We would certainly recommend this to anyone, and would have no problems staying here again.
This is a real quaint house in the best part of town. Walking distance to everything, and so easy to find. David and June are so welcoming and go the extra mile to share with you all of the options you have available to you in Saugatuck--and there are many! So knowledgeable and friendly. We enjoyed our time so much we'll definitely be back to Saugatuck in the near future.
We were looking for something off the beaten path and had never stayed at a B&B. On our way up we received a welcoming call in anticipation of our visit. The accommodations, hospital, and tranquil environment were first rate and just what we were looking for. We will definitely make a return trip sometime in the future. We will be forever spoiled in terms of visiting another B&B. This experience and comfort level will be hard to beat.
We only stayed one night, but would have loved to stay longer! This is a beautiful old Victorian home in the country, but close to Lake Michigan. The owners did a wonderful job of keeping with the era of the home, but giving it an updated look with modern amenities. (flat screen TVs, free wif-fi) The home was super clean everywhere... inside and out! We had our bikes with us, so we were able to ride on the trails on the property. We rode to the lake where you could either use the paddle boat or kayaks. We chose the paddleboat and it was so fun! We rode our bikes back up through the trails and grabbed our picnic basket that was ready for us to take to the screened in gazebo. It was a delicious dinner of a fresh green salad, homemade pot pies, rolls, sparkling juice and delicious little bite sized desserts. We even had Ms Abby, the resident cat join us! After dinner, we went on a short drive to visit our son in nearby, Holland. When we came back, we grabbed a couple complimentary movies and popcorn to take up to our room. We stayed in the Golden Tower, which was beautiful and cozy. Everything was very tastefully decorated. Slept very well! In the morning we again rode our bikes to the breakfast house.... fresh fruit, juice, a freshly made blueberry muffin and made to order omelet. All delicious!! I would recommend this B&B to anyone that wants a peaceful, relaxing spot in the country. (In fact, I already have to at least three people!) No details have been left out. The owners definitely know what they're doing!
A bit pricey, but worth every cent. This was our first B & B experience, and Prairieside may have spoiled us for any other B & Bs. Cheri, Paul and the rest of the staff were just great. The rooms are tastefully designed and have all the amenities you could want.
My husband and I spent our 26th anniversary here and loved every detail that Ruth and Herb put into this place. The scenic path and surrounding wildlife was beautiful, our room was AMAZING and the breakfast, cookies, coffee, teas, hospitality, and amenities available were perfect. We have been to several bed and breakfasts in various states and this one is on the top of our list. We will highly recommend it and definitely return. Two other couples that we know also came here this past year and were in different rooms than ours and had the same experience we did. Keep up the fantastic job of putting meticulous detail into your Inn for couples to get away.
My wife and I spent a long weekend at Prarieside Suites to celebrate her birthday. The B&B is actually located in Grandville, just outside of Grand Rapids. The town is big enough to have plenty of food options, but small enough to navigate easily. Also the location makes it easy to get to Grand Rapids or Lake Michigan. The B&B was kept clean, the owners were very friendly and the food was very good. We would definitely come back again!
We stayed here 2 time, once in July & In Aug. The Breakfasts were Fantastic, the cottage was cute and cozy we had our privacy, hot tub was great the ladder up to the loft was different but all and all it is a great little place to stay. Everything close , can walk anywhere around town. Tell Dave & June We sent you. They will treat you like family.
Location matters a lot, and in that respect, Castle in the Country delivers. The surrounding forest is beautiful. However, the house is three stories high, which requires you to carry all of your bags yourself up three stories with no assistance. The room was not very attractive, much like your grandparent's extra bedroom with a nice name tag. The house does not have central air. The air conditioning unit was very, very loud. Parking was ample, however. There was free popcorn. Breakfast and the view (though breakfast was not large nor a culinary feat), was pleasant. Check in is a bit late (4pm-6pm). Checkout is a bit early (11am). Which was also a bit annoying. So if you're coming, make sure you're coming for the nature, because there isn't much else that makes it worth it.
We truly enjoyed our stay at Castle in the Country. Ruth and Herb do a wonderful job at paying attention to details. They are extremely accommodating and have a perfect set up. I highly recommend this facility if it is in your price range!
We desperately needed some time away to relax and be refreshed, and we got what we came for, and more. Our room and your home was beautiful. Your hospitality and help that you offered made our stay so relaxing and enjoyable. Breakfast, and night time snacks were nothing short of wonderful. We came for the beach in Holland, and it was so easy to get there from Zeeland. Zeeland itself is a beautiful little town, and we enjoyed our visit there. Getting to know you Anna, and Vic, was a great time of fellowship, and we will never forget that. God bless you greatly for your labor of love for Him. Hope we get to come back again some time. Love, the Miracles
We have stayed at many B&B's all over the country and the Baert Baron Mansion is by far our favorite! Thank you, Vic and Anna for opening your home and your hearts. What a blessing it was to be on the receiving end of your ministry! Thanks especially for the last minute revisions to the breakfast menu to accommodate my food allergies. We loved discovering the history of your home and appreciate all the effort you put into restoring it. I feel as though we started out as guests but parted as friends. Blessings to you both! --Chet and Robyn Strawinski
My new Husband and I stayed in the English Cottage for our honeymoon and it was just perfect! The room was beautiful the house was gorgeous and the service was top notch. We had scheduled for breakfast in bed our first night and planned to eat in the dinning room with everyone else the last night and at 9pm the night before Cherri called to offer us another breakfast in bed free of charge so we could sleep in! Thats excellent service. We had a fantastic time and will be sure to make this an annual destination site for years to come.
What an enjoyable stay we had at Heritage Manor Inn! The owner, Ross, met us at the door and was very friendly. He explained everything we would need to know about our stay including asking what our plans were for staying in the area and gave us tips for places to go while we were there. Diane and Ross made a delicious breakfast for us each morning including local in-season fruit! We would definitely stay at Heritage Manor Inn again and commented to each other frequently throughout our stay that we would return.
The first time we stayed at the DeLano and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Marcia, the innkeeper, was very gracious and accommodating. The room and B&B was everything advertised and more. Many amenities were available or we could sit on the porch and relax. Next time we visit relatives in the area, we will definitely stay at the DeLano.
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at Jack's Bed and Breakfast, Pigeon Creek Inn. The combination of the quiet, wooded location with easy access to the beaches and walking trails and Jack's warm hospitality accented this great find. We were able to spend some quality time celebrating while resting in this beautiful setting. Rooms were inviting, clean and comfortable. Thanks!
We stayed at the Baert Baron Mansion last week in the first floor room. The bathroom is beautiful and as big as most bedrooms. It has a shower big enough for two with a rain shower head and a claw foot tub. The antiques are amazing. Anna brings dessert to your room each night, home made and delicious. Breakfast was at 9:00 and delicious. You won't be disappointed if you stay here. I hope to go back.
I was looking for a weekend getaway for my 10th anniversary and didn't want the typical lace doily B&B. This was the place. Very modern with a wonder screened in room for just lounging or breakfast. Anniversary Suite was breath-taking and a wonderful atmosphere all around. I will definitely be going there again.
