We stayed for our 5 year wedding anniversary to have a weekend away. It was a gorgeous relaxing stay, we loved walking the grounds, the delicious breakfasts, and the wonderful dining in the area. We will definitely be back again.
Great hosts. Architect-designed tastefully modern getaway. Great base for a couple of days on Lake Michigan. Would definitely return. Could have a little more of the delicious home-cooked food for breakfast.
We stayed in the Spanish Hacienda, which is in the basement of the main house. It was thoughtfully decorated and prepared to accommodate any convenience we might have. There were even "emergency toiletries" in the bathroom, which were unneeded, but an added touch that I haven't seen elsewhere. It was very quiet (another room was occupied down the hall from ours) and we were undisturbed. The Jacuzzi tub was the highlight of the room--big enough for two but not "oddly" placed in the room so as to be the main focal point. Breakfast was mediocre, but the coffee was fantastic, and it certainly was better than venturing elsewhere to have a meal before starting the day. I will definitely stay again, and plan to recommend it to friends. Top notch B&B.
From the moment we pulled up to this wonderful B&B and stepped through the door, we were immediately greeted by innkeeper Marcia. She showed us around the mansion and the architectural details were beautiful. Such as, the 11 foot sliding pocket doors and the 12 foot ceilings highly decorated with Victorian accents. It was Victorian at its best! Each room had its own character and charm. Our room was the French Garden and it was a separate residence just off the back of the property, and it was beautiful as well. Room had a electric fireplace, King Bed, walk-in shower with a separate two person deep whirlpool tub and a water fountain located right out in front of our room. There was also a Gazebo that was lit up at nighttime. Marcia is a very detailed innkeeper and she takes everything to heart. Each day was started off with a surprising homemade breakfast that was delicious! The area itself had plenty of things to do. Winery's were just a short drive away and downtown Allegan was a short walk away. We were able to visit Holland and Fennville. Definitely enough to do for a few days. If your looking to just go and relax within a Victorian setting and be humbled by the surrounding area, then you have to check this B&B out. Hospitality at its finest! Thanks Marcia and Kent for making our 21st Anniversary very special. We will see you again someday. Tim and Tina :)
It was such a blessing staying at the Baert Baron Mansion for a weekend get-away with my mom and sisters. The Innkeepers , Anna & Vic were just awesome and made us feel right at home as soon as we walked thru the door. The food was amazing, especially those fabulous desserts in the evenings. We stayed in the Attic Suite, which was perfect for us. It was beautifully decorated and very cozy. I can’t wait to bring my husband back some time to stay in one of the other rooms! Thank you Anna & Vic for being so hospitable and for making our weekend a great memory that we will never forget!!! ¿
Soon as we entered the front door, our service was wonderful! Super friendly and helpful , happily accomadated our every need. Breakfast each morning was amazing! Such a relaxing atmosphere! Grounds are beautiful, especially in the fall.
This was our first experience staying at a Bed and Breakfast, and it most certainly won't be our last. We stayed at Castle in the Country for our honeymoon and everything was spectacular. We upgraded to the royal treatment package and it was worth every penny. The food was wonderful, everyone we met was very nice and personal. I could write pages of worth of great things to say, the only negative is that it will be difficult staying somewhere else because this stay has raised our expectations. We hope to return again next year.
We stayed in the smallest room which is extremely small. A/C in the bathroom meant the walls don't go up to the ceiling and it's really cold after a shower. We tried to get to the boats for the full experience but we're attacked by so many mosquitoes we could not get there, even after bug spray. The grounds are beautiful as were the other rooms we saw. The food is outstanding. Not too much else to do in the immediate area but there are other towns about 40 minutes away.
We enjoyed a Thurs-Sat stay in the Oval Suite. The room was cozy and nicely decorated. There was plenty of room, but B&B standards and the decor was lovely. Jan and Gary, the owners, were very warm and hospitable. Breakfast was delicious each morning and they provided tea, coffee, and water to take with us for the day. Marywood is located half a block off of the main street in Saugatuck, and the price was good for the room and breakfast. We highly recommend!!
My wife and I stayed at Pigeon Creek during the first weekend of October. The check in process was simple and quick. The owner contacts you and provides a code for the front door. We walked in and went right to our room without having to stop and register. We loved the location as the Inn sits in the middle of the woods. The stay was peaceful and relaxing. Jack made recommendations for dinner and other things to do in the area. He also gave us directions to take a different way home because of construction near the area. The breakfast was very good and we picked up ideas for new dishes. Jack and his friend sat down and ate breakfast with us. We enjoyed the conversation and the hospitality they both showed.
This was our first time going to a Bed and Breakfast and I have to say we cant wait to go back! Castle in the Country is awesome! The people, the rooms, the grounds, the food and well everything is done top notch! 5 stars
This is a very clean B&B and rooms are beautifully theme decorated. Food was marginal. No creamer for coffee in the room. Unable to get receipts from staff, resulting in much confusion with billing, Bottles of shampoo and lotion are refilled for the next customer's use, but I prefer smaller complimentary individual bottles instead. When I took the used bottles, I was charged $15 and told by the owner "to read the label !" Nuts shouldn't be left out in rooms due to peanut allergies, although this B&B does ask about allergies prior to arriving. Recommend alternative "snack" be provided. Gift items like mugs are quite expensive, ex: mug $24++. Prefer at the high rates they charge that towels and wash clothes be refreshed daily. We were told to hang our wet towels on the heating rack and reuse them!
We had such a wonderful time at the Baert Baron Mansion. Anna and Vic are so warm and gracious! The room was beautiful and the breakfast was delicious! One of the best places we have ever stayed. It was very hard to leave :)
I have stayed in many B&Bs and this one was very attractive, but our room was in the basement and our only window was a window well (decorated with plants). It was an extremely small bathroom and the towel warmer (very nice idea to have) was placed out in the bedroom area. The location of the frig and microwave was back in a very tight corner. The breakfasts were nothing special scrambled eggs, pancakes, and omelets. I've had hosts really show off their specialties with their breakfast. A friend travelling with me used up some of a bottle of the lotion and we used most of the shampoo. To not be wasteful and also not realizing these amenities were not complimentary, she took the remaining lotion and shampoo home. We were charged for these as they refill the bottles (unsanitary??). Considering the price of the room ($265/night), we thought this a bit much. We also each gave the cook/maid our charge cards upon arrival and my friend was given a receipt. I didn't receive a receipt because she didn't know if they took my particular card (which they didn't). We never saw the owner and the cook/maid didn't know how to take care of my payment. I asked for a receipt upon leaving, but couldn't get one. When I arrived home, I checked my account and I was charged for the entire room, not the half as expected and requested. There was a bit of a dispute, but the owner finally straightened it out and my friend paid me for her half of the room - her receipt was never submitted to her card company. All and all, not the best of experiences.
Nice location for a ladies get away. Staff is friendly and accommodating. Owner is engaged with guests seeking personal preferences to supply guest rooms with favorite drinks and snacks. They have a large selection of movies on DVDs along with a smaller collection of books in the suites. Breakfast was served on time and tasted great. Easy access to a wide variety of restaurants and to the expressway.
This was our 2nd visit to Castle in the Country! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can't wait to visit again soon. The rooms and property are gorgeous and very relaxing. We love the surrounding towns and the incredible shopping! The innkeepers are incredible host and wonderful chef's.
We recently stayed at Pigeon Creek for a one night getaway. I liked that we could get a one night stay as so many places have a two night policy! We stayed in the Honeymoon Suite. The suite is very nice. When we arrived it was very cold in the room (early fall stay) and the tile floor hadn't warmed up yet nor was the pilot light lit in the fireplace. Jack took care of the heating issues promptly and did it ever warm up! The room is hot to say the least once everything is turned on. The room is located very near the kitchen area so in the morning, it was quite noisy and sleeping in really didn't happen as we'd hoped! Overall, a good stay and lovely interior. Great book and movie selection as well. We did not request breakfast.
I stayed here in October. Very pleased with the property and rooms. The house was beautiful and the porch was great for relaxing with a glass of wine. Check in was easy and no hassle. Breakfast was amazing! Everything was fresh and seasonal and the dining room was cozy. I would recommend this B&B.
We came to Grand Rapids for ArtPrize and our anniversary. It was a perfect weather weekend. Prairieside was a great place to stay in every way. The attention to detail was so impressive. I was amazed at all the "extra" niceties they added to the room, which is way beyond what you'd receive in a five star hotel (without a charge). Breakfast was delicious and the proprietors made us feel very at home. Since we were in Grand Rapids to experience ArtPrize, I wish I could have transplanted this B&B right downtown. The location is about 10 minutes by car. Still...loved our stay and would come back again!
We had stayed at the DeLano Inn the end of June of 2014. We wanted a nice place to stay for my daughters wedding. We could not have chosen a better bed and breakfast. Hopitality was excellent, we are looking to stay there again. Gene and Emily Ryers
The DeLano Mansion Inn is beautiful inside and out. Our room was perfect in every way. It was our Anniversary weekend, so we had an Anniversary card and a box of chocolates in our room when we arrived, which was a very sweet touch. Breakfast in the morning was delicious, and all the ingredients used were very fresh. If you would enjoy a quiet relaxing stay somewhere, the DeLano Mansion Inn is ideal.
Prairieside suites was beautiful! I loved everything about our stay. They really took the time in all of the details to make us feel welcome and comfortable. I really enjoyed the private entrance to our room. I would have to say the jacuzzi was my favorite part! I have already booked my next reservation!
