We came to Newport from the west coast to help in the planning for the wedding our son this summer in Newport. Heather and Michael were so helpful and hospitable. They were so patient with all our questions and that, alone, made the trip worthwhile! The home was so beautifully restored and decorated with great attention to detail. We stayed in the Perry Room - very comfortable bed, Wi-Fi, tv and the split bath actually worked out really well for the 2 of us. Every morning was a different surprise with a delicious breakfast of home made treasures prepared and served by Heather and Mike. The location is perfect - just one street up from Thames, where all the shops and restaurants are, but on a much quieter street. We are coming back with friends this summer and can't wait! All in all - this is an "A+" B&B!!

The house is charming, impeccably clean, and is excellently located. Our spacious room was beautifully appointed, warm - despite the zero-degree weather - and marvelously cozy. The attention to detail is striking; the furniture, rugs, colors, and overall decor gave our room a timeless quality - a truly colonial room augmented with modern amenities (private bathrooms, cable TV, WiFi and even a mini-fridge hidden in a bedside table). The hosts, Heather and Michael de Pinho are incredibly friendly, accessible and have great tips on where to eat, what places to visit, and what local events are happening. Although we arrived rather late, the de Pinho’s went out of their way to ensure that we could check in. The breakfasts were absolutely delicious (especially the Belgian Waffles with Berry Compote) and provided a perfect start to the day. During breakfast, the de Pinho’s listened to our plans and offered advice; even drawing out directions, on maps provided to all guests, to places we wished to see. The afternoon refreshments of coffee, tea, and assorted treats and snacks, a perfect “pick-me-up”. The House’s proximity to Thames Street, just one block east, means that dozens of shops, boutiques, restaurants and museums are well within walking distance. The Thames Street area near the Samuel Durfee House is full of small boutiques, wonderful restaurants, and classic bars. Further up Thames Street are the wharves, with seafood places overlooking the ocean, dozens of shopping opportunities and The Brick Alley Pub, a delicious lunch place, also recommended by our hosts. The parking available for guests in the rear was a pleasant surprise. One can easily drive out to see the mansions, return, park and then stroll to dinner at any of the great restaurants nearby. Overall, the combination of the house's charm, the hosts' graciousness, helpful suggestions and the great location contributed to an absolutely amazing weekend in Newport.

The Harrison Suite was lovely and the bed was VERY comfortable. The gas fireplace was a nice touch. Michael and Heather were very gracious in accommodating my husband's particular dietary requests, and the food was delicious. The location is superb: Easy walking distance to the charming downtown area with shops and restaurants. We would definitely recommend it and stay again.

From the common areas and rooms (we stayed in the Ida Lewis room with a private balcony) to the delicious breakfasts and gracious hosts, I cannot say enough positive things about the Samuel Durfee House! The location was perfect - one block off Thames, an easy walk to shopping, restaurants, the wharf area, and Tennis Hall of Fame. We drove to the cliff walk/mansions, but the off-street parking made it easy for us to come and go as we pleased. We also liked that it was a bit quieter than staying right on Thames Street. We would recommend this B&B to anyone and will definitely be returning in the future!
