Aunt Ethel's Bran Muffins: Bread

Ingredients:

• 

  2 cups Boiling water

• 

  2 tablespoons Baking soda

• 

  1 cup Shortening

• 

  1 3/4 cups Sugar

• 

  4 Eggs

• 

  1 quart Buttermilk

• 

  5 cups Unbleached white flour

• 

  1 teaspoon Salt

• 

  4 cups All-bran cereal

• 

  2 cups 40% Bran flakes cereal

• 

  2 1/2 cups Chopped dates

• 

  1 cup Chopped walnuts

Step 1:

Mix water and soda. Let cool

Step 2:

Cream shortening, sugar and eggs. Add buttermilk, flour, salt, and cereals and mix well. Stir in dates and walnuts.

Step 3:

Store batter in an air-tight container in the refrigerator. Batter will keep up to six weeks.

Step 4:

Bake as needed for 20 minutes in a 400 degree oven.
