I loved that we could walk to the beach from this quiet and charming BnB. Only regret is that the breakfast wasn't a hot breakfast and the price was a little steep, but we stayed over a holiday weekend so that's to be expected.
The room was beautiful, and the owners were super-nice. We arrived late, and had a little trouble getting in, but the wait was well worth it. Definitely will be a place that I return to and that I will recommend to friends and family!
Our stay at Brewster house was the highlight of our trip through the north eastern states. We definitely plan on returning. This was our second stay (with new owners this time) and was every bit as enjoyable as the first!
Stayed at The Inn at St.John for a couple of nights in the beginning of September 2016. Though slightly away from downtown area, we either walked 20mins to downtown or took a cab for $7. This is the only fault we can find. The rest exceeded our expectations. Would definitely stay here again.
This was our third stay at the Inn at St John. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly, the rooms are very nice, and the hotel itself is ideally located for the sort of activities we like to do in Portland. Highly recommended! Mark Smith
We arrived by Amtrak-- leaving by ferry to Nova Scotia next day. Of the many options in the area, the Inn at St John seemed the most interesting. We were not disappointed. We chose a first floor room, since our foldable bikes were in our bags and heavy. Although the Inn offers to help with luggage to upper floors (there are no elevators) we thought better of it. The Inn is quite close to the commercial port district. Its all walkable. In the morning we found a nice loop to run down to the water and around to the port area that avoided much of the crowded commercial district. Continental style breakfast served in a narrow area off the main lobby. It's a bit difficult to get around when breakfast time arrives.
Atlantic Birches Inn is the best place to stay in Old Orchard beach. It has the best value, very close to the beach and restaurants. Heidi and Ray are great hosts and are very accomodating. We definitely recommend.
I'm so happy that I booked this hotel to spend my labour day weekend in here. The room is cute and warm. All the people in the hotel is so warm and nice . The location is easy to access. Next time I will stay here again if I come to visit Maine ! ¿¿¿¿
My wife and I stayed at this B&B to celebrate our wedding anniversary and babymoon. Matt and Amy were warm and welcoming hosts. The attention to every little detail made for a really great experience. Breakfast each morning was fantastic and cooked/served by the hosts. The room clean when we got back from a day of sightseeing and the overall vibe around the inn was very relaxed. The location of the inn is also very convenient to Portland and Old Orchard Beach - around 20-30min drive. The town center of Gorham is also within walking distance that has restaurants and shops. My wife and I would definitely stay at this inn again!
The Inn was really nice. The room was small but cozy and it was really nice having a front porch. We really enjoyed the pool as well. Since it was such a busy weekend it was nice having a private escape. Clean and comfortable, we would definitely stay here again!
My girlfriend and I stayed here for a long weekend and loved it. We stayed in the Gables Room in the guest house. There is a small kitchen downstairs, which was a nice surprise, with a mini-fridge, sink, and tables, and another mini-fridge upstairs, so you can store some food. It was very quiet and clean. There's a large front deck and a small private back deck that was wonderful. There's also a pool! The only negatives I have, and they're not really that bad, are that the mattress was pretty firm, so if that's not your thing (I myself need a much cushier mattress), maybe try another room, and there's no second shower curtain in the bathroom, so the water can leak through the thin liner that's there. Other than that, it was fantastic! The owners are very nice, friendly, and can recommend places in the area. The house itself is in walking distance of Old Orchard Beach and the carnival/arcades/restaurants down there, and a very convenient drive to Portland, which is where we spent a lot of our weekend. I would definitely recommend it!
The Inn at St. John was absolutely perfect romantic getaway for my boyfriend and I. The rooms were clean, and the staff provided everything we needed. They also let me bring my 9-month old Bernese Mountain Dog for the trip, and always welcomed us in with huge smiles. They also SPOILED my girl with treats every we came back in. We will definitely be back to this cozy inn.
We stayed at the Inn for along weekend and loved it. The staff went out of their way to be helpful, the rooms were exceptionally clean, the location was nice and the Inn was charming. An added great were the yummy cookies in the lobby each night. And the price was very affordable. Overall, a great place to stay.
We just returned from a really lovely stay at the Wolf Cove Inn. It is a wonderful place, the owners couldn't be nicer nor more helpful and the breakfast was one in which you couldn't wait to get up and go downstairs to eat!!! Highly recommend the Wolf Cove Inn
I enjoyed my stay at the Inn at St. John for one night while I was in Portland. The location was great and the customer service exceeded my expectations. The rooms were very clean also. Our bed was a bit too soft but I am use to sleeping on a firm mattress. Parking was simple.
My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights as part of our brief honeymoon to Portland, and it was wonderful. Scott and Erin, were professional, friendly, and made excellent and varied breakfasts for us each morning. The inn itself is small and intimate but my husband and I stayed in a room that had its own hallway with its own bathroom, as well as a little balcony off of our room. We never encountered other guests except for when we went down for breakfast. The bed in our room was exceptionally comfortable and both our room and the bathroom were immaculate. As for location, the Chadwick is in a nice residential spot of Portland, but it's not too far of a walk if you choose to go downtown via foot (approximately 20-25 minutes). We used Uber to get around when we didn't feel like walking and that only took 5-10 minutes. We loved our stay and will be back when we visit Portland again!
We always choose the Inn and St. John and were not disappointed this time around! The rooms are very simple but clean and equipped with everything you might need. For the area, the price is quite reasonable. This time we opted for a shared bathroom rather than private, but it practically felt private anyway which was really great. We recommend the Inn at St. John to all of our friends when they visit Portland.
