If you are visiting the totally hip Division-Clinton neighborhood, stay at the Bluebird Guesthouse! It's comfortable, casual and friendly. The rooms are very pleasant and well maintained. The best part of my stay was the kitchen, where guests can make their own breakfast with yummy supplies on hand and tea or coffee anytime. It turned into a nice gathering place for the outgoing visitors to chat. There's also a lovely dining room, living room and parlor for relaxing.

The Bluebird is one of the best kept secrets in southeast Portland. Within walking distance some of the most amazing small restaurants are found and there is great shopping for vintage items. The beds at the Bluebird are comfortable and the service was great. Gluten free continental breakfast is available. The only downside to our stay, we had to change rooms. We were not fast enough in making up our minds to book two nights in the same booking. However, the staff moved our things to our new room. Can't wait to return.

I adore this place. I have been here six times and it is always better. Now discounts for cyclists! Breakfast is very vegan friendly, nice bagels. NO TV anywhere, yay!! Quiet and nice fellow guests who are usually in bed early and up early. Yoga place and vegan food at Papa Gi's within 15 blocks south on Division St. Yoga place is Bhakti Shop.

For this neighborhood (sorry I do not know Portland neighborhood names) this was very close to the event I was attending, and the price/value is great. The rooms and guests were warm, the place is clean, serves great coffee, tea, fruit & pastries in the a.m. Gluten-free muffins were a treat! No TV and low noise make it extra nice for those attending meditation workshops that don't include lodging. Walking distance to a few each of coffee/tea houses, bars, restaurants and shops. Street parking may be a hassle at times, and I'm not sure I'd pay the summer rates, but the rest of the year the value is great. Oh, and an honest website!

A friend recommended this place to me when I went to Portland for a long weekend by myself. I was looking for an affordable place to stay in SE Portland and this fit the bill. Nice towels, clean bed. Good vibe and nice coffee in the morning. Located close to a number of nice restaurants. I plan on returning when I need to go down to Portland again.

The room was perfect for my girlfriend and I. Waffling distance from tons of food and drink options. Affordable rates and way better than a comparable hotel experience.

This was my first visit to Portland. Arrived in PDX at 1040pm on a Friday.I took light rail to the Hollywood transit center and bus75 to within 4 blocks of Bluebird Guest House(Cesar Chavez-39th and Division). Passcode worked to let me in. A fine home, with a welcoming first floor. I found a key in my room's door and a welcome message. Slept well and enjoyed the claw foot tub the mext morning. After some excellent coffee and nice muffins, I was off for the day. Second and third nights were equally comfortable, other guests were friendly folks that I didn't even know were there during the night. Pok pok and Hedge house were easy walking distance. I will be back!

Adorable guesthouse. The baths were not en suite, but, rather, were shared, but I'd known that this would be the case. Everything was immaculately clean. There was wifi and a computer that guests could use, as well. The check in and check out set ups were as easy as could be. The price was excellent. I also thought the neighborhood was cool and fun.

I recently stayed at the Bluebird while attending a workshop nearby. I was a little apprehensive about booking it online, with no information about the neighborhood or surroundings. I was quite pleasantly surprised! The Bluebird is charming. The furnishings are comfortable and speak to the era of the home. It really felt like being a guest in someone's home, rather than an anonymous visitor in a modern hotel. I stayed in the Sherman Alexie room and found the bed to be very comfortable. The neighborhood offers many good places to eat, and coffee is everywhere! If I ever have the opportunity to visit Portland again, I will certainly stay at the Bluebird again!

Quaint B+B, homey and comfortable. What you would expect, nothing fancy but very nice.

Portland is not the sunniest place, so we were perplexed that our nice comfortable room was painted, walls AND ceiling, a dark reddish-brown. The windows helped offset that darkness some, though, if the sun was shining. Common living and dining rooms similarly darkly decorated. Breakfast is do-it-yourself: coffee, assortment of cold bagels, muffins and scones, with some fruit provided, and powdered pancake mix if you want to make a mess that you will have to clean up. At this price, a hot breakfast should be provided. The shower delivered plenty of hot water, and the bed was comfortable for me, but my wife thought it too hard. We had a private-bath, king room: with tax about $500 for 4 nights in mid-October. Most mornings we walked somewhere else for breakfast or ate with our daughter whom we came to visit. Nice neighborhood to walk in, bus service close by.

I was traveling by myself and on a budget, so I booked the Raymond Carver room for a few days. The house is large and well manicured, with a feeling like you're staying at grandma's house. Very large kitchen with tea, coffee, orange juice, bagels, muffins, bread, bananas, peanut butter, cream cheese for all to use. A computer with Internet as well. Lots of bathrooms and showers to ensure no waiting. Staff was friendly and helpful. My small room had towels, wash clothes, robes, soap, and a hair dryer, none of which I expected; also, each room has a book written by its namesake. Very Highly recommended if you want a quiet place that feels like home.

Three night stay was very pleasant. Only the factory next door (bottling company?) operating at odd hours was not so nice, as I was trying to get over jet lag. The neighborhood is full of good places to eat, and I recomended the Bluebird to others while I was in Portland.

We stayed at the Bluebird Guesthouse after our wedding for one night, as a "mini honeymoon" in Portland. We reserved the small room on the top floor with a skylight. It was, as expected, small, but super cute, and perfect for us. I wake up early, so was up about 5:00 am. When I tip-toed down to the kitchen, another guest had already started a pot of coffee. From 5:00 to about 10:00, we just relaxed, hung out in the room, sipping coffee, enjoying delicious vegan muffins, scones, bagels, and fresh fruit. Yum! We never seem to take time to relax like that, so it made it extra special. Crossed paths briefly with some other guests, but never heard them or were bothered by them during our stay. Nice and private. At under $100 for the night, it was well well worth it! Now I'm just trying to find another excuse to stay there again! My only (very minor) suggestion: It is so awesome that you had vegan and gluten free goodies clearly labeled in the kitchen. Thank you! That's the reason we chose your bed and breakfast! But it would've been nice to also have some vegan creamer or milk for coffee or vegan butter for bagels or something like that. Like I said, very minor suggestion. The coconut carrot raisin muffins were outstanding!

Everything about the Bluebird is excellent -- other guests were friendly and helpful, the room and (private) bathroom immaculate. Parking on the street not as easy to find as we would have liked, but that's not Bluebird's fault. We were helped in by welcoming and friendly staff. We would definitely try to stay at Bluebird in the future and recommend it unreservedly to friends.

The bluebird guesthouse was wonderful. Clean, stylish and simple. The owners were never around, making it feel like you were renting the place, but they left good instructions for getting ahold of them, ect. There were brochures for local attractions. We stayed in the Elliot smith room, which was downstairs, one floor below the restroom and two floors below the bathroom. I would definitely stay there again for the price and great location.
5 en septiembre 18, 2013
We drove right past it a couple times before finally deciding to walk to find it. The front was blocked by trees so that when you walk up the steps to the front yard it becomes a serene little getaway in contrast to the bustling street it is located on. The house is absolutely adorable inside. We stayed in the Elliot Smith in the basement, which was really quiet. The only downside to that were the showers being two floors up which made for a long venture through the house with embarrassing morning hair, which isn't all that bad. The room itself was a little plain, but it was much bigger than it looked in the picture and had a very comfy bed. Although breakfast isn't "served" here, local breakfasty treats are provided and there is a full kitchen for the guests to use. Aside from the busy street it's on (which has so many great restaurants. A couple must-try places we ate at were Cibo, Hedge House, and Salt and Straw), the neighborhood is mostly residential and great for relaxing walks or a bike ride. To the east there are a couple beautiful rose gardens. Overall, we loved our stay and plan to stay here any time we visit Portland in the future.

Incredible value for this SE Division neighborhood. I've stayed in Portland many times before, but have usually stayed in the downtown area at either a hotel or with friends. However, the location of the Bluebird Guesthouse can't be beat; there are shops, restaurants, tea houses, and lots to see within a few blocks of this bustling neighborhood. In general it was easy to find parking nearby, and the neighborhoods didn't have restrictions for how long you could park (i.e., ended up not moving my car much...too much to do/see nearby!). I stayed in two different rooms during my stay, the first one being a basement room with no air conditioning, but it was nice and roomy. The lack of air conditioning, although an initial concern, ended up not being an issue with the cool Portland nights and fan provided. The second room I stayed in was on the second floor (closer to the bathrooms and had A/C), but was really tiny. Luckily I didn't have much luggage, but the small size could definitely be an issue for folks not traveling light. Although the room was still a great value, I would recommend checking out the room descriptions on their website before booking to make sure you'll have enough space to meet your needs. I was a bit hesitant to book here at first knowing I wouldn't have my own bathroom, but as their website states, there are a couple located in the guesthouse, so I never ended up having to wait. It was also a nice touch that bathrobes are provided so you don't have to worry about walking to the bathroom in your pajamas. The breakfast was as expected (mostly pastries and bagels), and I also thought it was nice that they also provided vegan and gluten free options as well. I also loved that guests are given full access to the kitchen, so you could store food in the full size refrigerator, and also cook if you wanted. Overall, I was very impressed with the Bluebird, and look forward to staying there again on future visits.

We loved staying at the Bluebird Guesthouse! The house was beautiful and quiet. The neighborhood was great—lots of great coffee, restaurants and shopping. There's convenient public transportation nearby. Definitely a great place to stay if you want to be a little bit off the beaten path but still close to downtown. Next time we're in Portland, we plan on staying at the Bluebird again!

This is a great old house with a full kitchen, dining room, living room, porch with swing and a delightful innkeeper. I stayed in the Raymond Carver room and had friends meet me at the house. We sat in the living room talking late into the evening, then had coffee and scones which they picked up in the neighborhood the next morning around the dining table. Very friendly, clean and accessible. The price was right too. Has it all over hotels...would recommend it to friends or family and hope to go back!

Was surprised not to be greeted by owners during our stay. Very quiet house, street outside very busy, had to look for a place to park everytime we came back. Did not know we were making our own breakfast and cleaning up afterwards. It worked out okay, just did not know that was how it worked. Room was large and so was bath. No TV which was okay.

Serene house with lovely details in fun neighborhood. Good quality beds and linens and use of laundry in basement a real plus after a week's backpacking trip. Instructions were thorough and everything worked as expected with no surprises. Use of a computer also much appreciated. Street parking is easy but be aware there is no "driveway" beside the house to unload your bags--it's a small apron from the street across the sidewalk only.

Very clean, great breakfast with bagels, muffins, fruit, pancakes, coffeecake, etc. and even vegan and gluten free options! Full access to cooking in the kitchen too which was nice. Incredibly walkable in one of Portland's coolest neighborhoods. This place felt like home, awesome after a long day trying to make the most of a short vacation! Nice relaxing patio to hang out on. We stayed in one of the basement rooms and I'd say the only bummer was all the bathrooms were upstairs. Also frustrating to wait for a shower in the morning when both were taken (I'd imagine this doesn't happen too often but we were in a hurry to get to a morning wedding in Salem). Overall, this a fun place to stay and the management is super friendly!

My wife and I spent a weekend at the Bluebird Guesthouse, simply put, we love this place!! Our room was VERY clean and VERY comfortable. The house itself is quite charming. I was delighted to have a seat on the couch and find a perfectly tuned guitar to play. The kitchen (and the ENTIRE house) is immaculately and impeccably clean, we are truly impressed with our whole, memorable stay. We were in Portland for my sister's 60th birthday, her vacation rental was just a few blocks away, this gave us the chance to walk the neighborhood, which is filled with delightful places for tea, coffee, lunch, etc. Thinking of staying at the Bluebird? I say don't think, commit, get your reservation ASAP, I know you're gonna love it as much as we do!!

Home away from home. We stayed in the Ken Kesey. It had a bathroom outside the door (it was a shared bathroom) when others are staying in a room down the hall. They had fruit, coffee, bagels and muffins every morning.

The facilities and house were grat to stay at. Or house is of a similar age so it was a welcome home to us. It's a bit off the beaten path, but if that's what you're looking for then it'll be perfect! Some eating choices nearby, but sadly not if you have celiacs.

Quick run down of this charming guesthouse: No ankle-biters. Kids under six years old are not allowed, which means it is super quiet. Most comfortable hotel/hostel bed I've ever used. Good sleeps makes for happy travelers. Great location. For those that want to travel without a car this is a great home base. There is plenty to do in this area, plus it is easy walks to different neighborhoods, pubs, restaurants, shops, parks, bakeries. We rented bikes, cuz bikes are fun, but they are not needed. Between walking or bus #4 you could easily fill a weekend without need of a car. We rented from Clever Cycles, an awesome shop that is a pleasant 2 mile walk from Bluebird. This may be a negative for some, but it was a bonus for me: we never even saw the owners/managers. We let ourselves in following their emailed instructions and just left the keys in the unlocked room when we left three days later. Zero hassle. The house is gorgeous. It is brimming with Craftsman touches, little nooks and crannies abound. One little nit is that I wish the bedrooms had hardwood floors; carpet gives me the heebie-jeebies. Rudimentary breakfast fare (and coffee) are provided, but Portland is such a breakfasty town you should just go out and get yourself a salmon Benedict and a Bloody Mary with homemade pickled veggies. Really. Do that. It was a lovely visit and I wouldn't hesitate to stay at the Bluebird again.

My husband and I really enjoyed staying in this quiet guesthouse in a great location on SE Division. I was unfamiliar with the concept of the guesthouse (there is a cleaning service, but no on-site management, a communal kitchen, and some shared bathrooms), but as folks who prefer to be left to our own devices, it suited my husband and me perfectly. Our room was very clean, with comfortable, homey vintage furniture, a lovely skylight in the bathroom, well-functioning air-conditioner, and windows that opened. It's just down the street from a highly recommended casual Thai place called Pok Pok, my favorite restaurant in Portland (and we went to several great ones). Longish but manageable walk to the Hawthorne/Division and Clinton Street areas, although we mostly used a rental car to get around. Coffee, fruit, and delicious fresh bakery items tided us over in the mornings, but there are good cute breakfast places around. Otherwise, we didn't really use the kitchen. The common areas had the same comfortable, vintage-y-but-clean vibe, and everything was convenient (newspapers laid out in the breakfast room, robes in the bathroom, etc.). I give this place an A-plus and will return here again.

I have stayed at this guest house twice and it works for me. Don't expect high service or any interaction with an inn keeper. This is a self service operation. It is well run, clean and comfortable. It had everything that I need.

Are you looking for a very reasonably priced alternative to chain hotels? Then the Bluebird Guesthouse is a sure thing. My wife and I stayed one night in the Sherman Alexie room on a spur of the moment trip to Portland. The rooms are clean and the mattress is comfortable. There's plenty of space on the ground floor to hangout or relax. The overall vibe seemed low key and quiet. There's a surprisingly good continental breakfast as well ss the option to cook your own meals. If you don't mind sharing a bathroom, towels and robes are provided, then this might be your place.

Bluebird is nicely located on Division and just one block away from Clinton. Both streets have many terrific restaurants and homes. It is a nice residential area that is easily accessible by bus, car, or bike. The guest house feels very much like a private home and is quiet most of the time. It has a big kitchen, nice sitting room, dining, and a small backyard/garden. My room locates in the back of the house and overlooks the garden so it is very private. It has a private bath with a large tub. The king bed is large and comfortable but the pillows are a bit too soft. Breakfast is provided with organic fruits (mostly apples and bananas), Irish steel cut oatmeal, pancake mix, bagels (I think these are brought in once a week so depending on when you stay there, may be fresh or stale), gluten free muffins and other pastries (also semi fresh, often from the freezer), juice, fruit jam, butter, cream cheese. Residents can bring their own food and there's room in the fridge to store some basic items like eggs, sausage, and fruits. The kitchen is fully equipped with cookware, tea bags, oil, salt and pepper, etc. A really comfortable place to stay. Those that don't want to cook can go to the many eateries just minutes away from the guesthouse, including the very popular Pok Pok Thai Restaurant. I will definitely stay there again.

We were very impressed with both rooms.Initially we were concerned that the rooms might be stuffy, one being below the kitchen and the other on the top floor but the ventilation and the fans made them very fresh and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful and the 'help yourself' approach regarding the food was most relaxing. The bagels were fresh every morning and the kitchen was fully stocked! This was our first time staying in a Guest House and we were won over.We will be back!No more boring hotels for us in Portland!Thank you from Victoria BC Canada

My fiance and I decided to stay at the Bluebird Guesthouse due to its great reviews on Yelp, its charm, and its location on Division St. We really enjoyed our stay! Our room (the Sherman Alexie) was very spacious for the two of us. Even though we didn't have a private bathroom, we had no trouble with the shared restrooms. I never had to wait for one. The house was very cute, and the breakfast in the morning was pretty good (aside from a pastry that had gone bad). They also had vegan and gluten free options, which I liked since I'm vegan. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, and I would definitely return!

My partner and I stayed for three nights in a room on the 2nd floor at the Bluebird guesthouse and were both equally pleased at the quality of our stay. We loved the comfortable and home feeling we had every time we were in the guesthouse and will definitely be staying there again next time we are in Portland. It is in a great neighborhood, and is walkable to most places on the other side of the river. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was close by, and the house was old but obviously well cared for. The breakfast was okay but had all the necessities. I loved how easy it was to arrive and depart, even when we arrived in the middle of the night.

We stayed two days in the Garcia Marquez room. The house is absolutely gorgeous and is perfect for a person who wants the charm of a bed and breakfast without the need to explain your entire life story to the owners and that nice couple from Kansas. The common areas are generously sized and wonderfully filled with character (built-in sideboard in the dining room, gorgeous bookshelf in the living room, the air vent covers have a sort of filigree pattern, etc.) We really enjoyed it. Plus the 4 bus is right outside the front door. Would definitely stay again. By the way, it's a pretty good deal, too. To be clear regarding both service and breakfast - though there was a staff person there from morning until about 3 PM, you really don't see her and you kind of have to guess she works there. Super friendly, answered all questions knowledgeably about neighborhood, bus service, etc., just not really around much, though the letter you get on the bed tells you there's an office upstairs, which was easy to find when I went to look. Breakfast is a selection of pastries, plus coffee and your choice of tea, as well as fresh fruit. Nothing hot, though you are welcome to cook your own.

Stayed here for a night and it was lovely! convenient location in a charming area, VERY clean. Rooms were nicer than I expected! Great value considering how much hotels cost downtown. Very peaceful and quiet. We stayed on a Sunday night so we had a chance to explore the house and get a glance at some of the other rooms that had not been booked for the night, all of them were absolutely gorgeous! We stayed in the Beverly Cleary room and it was particularly nice :) The Sherman Alexie room looked very comfortable as well! Staff was available but mostly out of sight, which gave it a nice place-to-yourself feeling. The breakfast was pretty good, nice help-yourself selection and they had fresh fruit which was a nice plus. I would stay here again :)

Spacious, comfortable and relaxing, The Bluebird Guesthouse is a great home base for a visit to Portland. It is located in the beautiful SE neighborhood, great for walking, with many of the uniquely Portland shops and restaurants nearby. The house itself is the essence of comfort with spacious kitchen, dining room, living room. In the warm season, the porch swing is great, and in cold months, there is a cozy couch by the fireplace. The house is beautifully kept and the kitchen is well stocked for breakfasts. The staff are friendly and helpful. The Bluebird is my favorite place to stay in Portland.

My family just stayed at the Bluebird Guesthouse in Portland and loved it! We only wished we could have stayed there longer! The beds are super comfortable, rooms are clean, atmosphere is friendly, and it's convenient to all the local restaurants and shops. This guesthouse is the perfect place to stay if you need to stay in the East side neighborhoods of Portland. The people that run in are extremely nice, and you can actually get to know them a bit if you're open to it. It is a great place in between a standard hotel and a bed and breakfast. You feel like you have the amenities you have when you're home but your home isn't an authentic Victorian. The unique charm of the house definitely stood out to me and with the location and service it was an all around wonderful experience. I would definitely go back if I end up in Portland again.

This room will be very tight for two people, best to stay here if you're flying solo. That's not a complaint at all, just the way it is. I would definitely stay here again. I found the bathroom always clean, ditto the kitchen. It was hot when I was there, and I asked the caretaker for a little fan for my room and she checked, and got one for me! Oh, and I don't know if it was just happy coincidence of the guests who were staying there at the same time, but the noise level was low, which was very much appreciated.

I stayed at Bluebird Guesthouse for some meetings in Portland. It was a very convenient location, and its a very nice place that makes you feel right at home. Nice kitchen and rooms to read, relax or do some work on your laptop. Nice little frontyard and outside seating, and a backyard lawn. Highly recommend it and will come back when I'm in Portland again.

i highly recommed others to stay at the bluebird guesthouse. this was my first experience staying in a guest house and it was great! very homey and the other folks were friendly. the room and bathroom were clean and fully stocked. it was nice not having to pay for breakfast each morning too. i will definitely stay here again when i visit portland!

The Bluebird fits the bill for an 'in and out' overnight in a B&B. Room very comfortable; self help entry, breakfast, etc. an interesting way to run a place for low overhead. Pricey for what it is, I thought. But so many things sold out that particular weekend. Very "Portland" kind of place. Clean, comfortable, funky.

I love the Bluebird. I've stayed twice, now, and both times it felt so unassuming yet comfortable. Nice amenities include bathrobes, a medicine cabinet filled with emergency staples and a really nice continental breakfast with good coffee, fruit and yummy breakfast treats like local pastries, muffins and bagels. Fridge on site. Wi-fi. Friendly staff person in the morning. Later, I got a phone call inquiring if the earrings they found in my room were mine. I wish all my stays could be so relaxing! I definitely will stay here again!

This is an old house with good bones. The kitchen area is old school and very charming. My room was warm, beautifully painted, nice combination of furnishings, spacious, and the bathroom was lovely. I met one guest and we had a nice exchange. The house was full but guests were respectful to honor the quiet peace and calm guests experience here. It was a sweet experience for me. It was a very nice exception to the isolation I have experienced in hotel. Priced well.

Bluebird Guesthouse feels like home. It's so convenient to be in one of Portland's most desirable neighborhoods in a comfortable house. The value is outstanding; I wish every city had the same exact set up for the price. It's charming without being fussy, it's comfortable and clean, a bit quirky, which is why we love it, and encourages relaxation. I especially like having long lazy mornings in the sunny dining room with cups of coffee; it's just like being at home only better. Honestly, I try to think of reasons and excuses to come to Portland just so I can stay here more often.

I stayed in the R. Carver room while I stayed at the guesthouse. The guesthouse is not a traditional bed and breakfast. There is a continental breakfast served in the morning with freshly ground coffee, bagels and muffins. I only saw staff once. There isn't someone there to entertain you, which I prefer, so if you are looking for a traditional bed and breakfast, keep that in mind. For the price, it is definitely worth it. It's a clean place to stay that is inexpensive. There are a few bathrooms in the house that are shared by all the guests, and there was never a problem with waiting to use one. It seemed that I was the only one who used the bathroom located next to the Raymond Carver while I was staying there. So, it seems like they are spread out enough where guests hardly notice that they are sharing a bathroom. It was a very tiny room, but perfect for a cozy sleep while saving money and traveling alone. The coffee and muffins were fresh. I have stayed there twice and I would stay there again.

The Bluebird Guest House exceeded our expectations for comfort, location and walkability. Hanging out on the porch drinking a local microbrew and eating popcorn on a sunny afternoon was great. Our room - the Gabriel Garcia Marquez had a wonderful view of the garden. Great location to walk to local amenities including Whiskey Soda and Pok Pok. We would stay again!

Booked a basement room, comfortable bed, two flights upstairs to the shower. Never saw the host/hostess, due to my hours, but all relevant information was provided in writing. Good value, good location. Breakfast was a do-it-yourself continental style, which suited my time schedule.

I stayed here on a 5-day trip with one other person. We wanted something outside of Downtown that would be easily accessible, safe, interesting and off-the-beaten-path. The neighborhood is great with many interesting stores, bars, restaurants and bus stops to get around. If you're looking for something casual, you don't mind sharing a bathroom (we had no trouble with availability) with a charming feel, go to the Bluebird Guesthouse.

We had a very nice time here! The staff provided some awesome recommendations on restaurants in the area which catered to my vegan tastes, as well as other things to do in the neighborhood. The location is terrific, with so much within walking distance. The rooms are clean and appropriate and I felt the breakfast items they provided were just right. This is a great, low key, way to see Portland!

The Bluebird is a great place to stay, in a cool neighborhood in Portland. As I was in a rush when I booked it, I probably didn't read the description closely enough and thought it was a full breakfast type of place, which it isn't. The breakfast is more continental style, but the baked goods etc. on offer were very good. And there are great places to eat over on Division St.
3,6 en marzo 07, 2013
Because of its location on a main street, I was surprised at how quiet and private Bluebird was. I chose a room w/o a private bath, and only once in 5 days did I have to wait to use it. Breakfast is serve-yourself: Coffee and fresh fruit were always ready in the morning. Bagels and muffins were in the frig for the taking, but unfortunately they were never refreshed. Each day, I expected to see new choices--but they were the same for 5 days.

I always love staying at the Bluebird! It is charming but not run down. You can feel the love that is put into the place! I also really appreciate the gluten free snacks and the really good internet connection. The neighborhood is also very cool and central. Thank you so much for always making me feel so welcome, Rebecca from the Bay Area

I would recommend it to anyone, and Im sure we'll be staying there again next year. :)

This place is very nice and clean, not a top of the line hotel by any means but is a great alternative to an expensive room elsewhere. We always appreciate the convenience and price of these rooms. Now they've placed new beds in the rooms and it's very comfy. The Beverly Cleary has a king sized bed now, and the room is big enough that it doesn't crowd two people. You can walk to many shops and restaurants in the SE neighborhood, but it's not hard to park, either. Great choice.

My husband and I have stayed in boutique hotels (Ace, and Modera) as well as McMennamin's, and while they have their charms, The Bluebird Guesthouse is a much more compelling place to stay. Less expensive than anywhere else, and so very welcoming in an unassuming way. I knew there were offerings of bagels, pastries and coffee, but was impressed with the gluten free pastry array, as well. I had read about the fact that there was a laundry chute, and easily identified it in the bathroom. The neighborhood was not exactly what I was expecting, but was pleasantly surprised by the new Townshend Tea Company, and the vintage shop just down the street, where I scored a beautiful beaded medicine bag, and a view-master with 17 pristine reels dating from 1939. I look forward to coming back in the summer to see what the new construction turns into, and further exploration of the culinary gems nearby. I am also looking forward to my stay at the nearby Evermore guesthouse in April.

I reserved two rooms, one for my mom and one for my in-laws. It worked out perfectly. They loved the house, the location was excellent, and they very much enjoyed conversations with the other guests in the mornings before they came over to us. I will do this again!

We have stayed at this guesthouse twice in the past six months. Each time the reservation process was very efficient. Other guests were courteous and we enjoyed visiting briefly with them in the kitchen area. The surrounding neighborhood is fun and walkable. It is not hard getting to downtown Portland by car or bus. We were in the basement rooms and slept well there without intrusive street noise. Trips up and down the creaky stairs to the bathroom and shower added to the authenticity of our homey experience. This is an unusually economical lodging for the city. We highly recommend it to independent and casual travelers who prefer making their own breakfast.

This wonderful house in SE Portland is relaxing, beautiful, and completely enjoyable. My wife and I live in SE Portland but when we need a break from the kids and want to get away for an overnight we bike down to the bluebird and hang out. The well-stocked kitchen has everything you need to make meals, and the hosts supply a wonderful array of breakfast treats for the morning. I highly recommend it!

This is a good place if you want a clean, quiet room with self-catering. We chose it as it was close to friends of ours living in SE Portland. The breakfast food was good, but on a couple of days, the butter, bagels, bread and milk ran short as we got up later. Direct bus to downtown Portland and 10 minute walk to Hawthorne for supermarkets, shops. Division Street has some shops but not as many. Our room was a good size, clean and comfortable, and next to a bathroom. Someone was there in the mornings if you had any questions, need help, etc. Not much tourist information. Internet access and computer very rapid and reliable. Fully equipped kitchen made it easy to prepare meals or just eat takeout.

Wanted a get away with little contact with others in a comfortable space. PERFECT! All business was handled online; didn't even encounter keepers during 2 night stay. Great kitchen for prep of food I brought with me and great location for other meals I needed. The delicious and popular 'Pok Pok' is just a couple of blocks away. The Marquez room was great. On the main floor but private with the bonus of its own bath. I will return!

I stayed here during my first visit to Portland two years ago, and loved it. Last year, I chose to stay at a McMenamins hotel downtown, which was ok but the area was noisy and jarring, and the windows were far from soundproof. Returned here for my third Portland visit earlier this week - I'll never stay anywhere else again. If you're looking for concierge service, a lounge bar with purple lights, and organic verbena hand cream, go stay at the W. If you want an authentic Portland experience in a real Arts and Crafts house in the best part of the city, this is your place.

Our stay at Bluebird felt like we were at home. It was pleasant to hang out downstairs. Other guests were friendly and nice. We had a feeling of being tucked away but the location was so convenient to everything. The staff was helpful. The laundry facility was convenient and immaculate. The kitchen was well stocked. Breakfast was always a nice time with a lot of variety to choose from. We are definitely making this our place to stay while in Portland.

We spent a week at the Bluebird Guesthouse and enjoyed it immensely. This adorable, cozy bungalow is nestled into a great neighborhood. Lots of good food and coffee to be found on Division and it's an easy walk to Hawthorne. The rooms (including the bathrooms, kitchen, and shared spaces) were all very clean. We stayed in the Elliot Smith room and didn't mind going upstairs for the bathrooms. The shared spaces in particular were very inviting. We found ourselves spending way more time in them than we'd anticipated. The porch has a porch swing... 'nuff said. It's easy to interact with others or just keep to yourself. Either way you get to enjoy this charming home while you're in Portland and that's more than I can say for any hotel.

Stayed at Bluebird for 3 nights in Portland while on a road trip. Easy parking (always directly in front of the house), lots of great food and drinks within a few blocks. The down side is that, if interested in touring around downtown Portland, it's a bit out of the way, but southeast Portland has more than enough to offer. Rooms had plenty of space, the bathroom was clean, and the house had plenty of maps and newspapers to find things to do. Again, not a traditional B&B - no breakfast served, though they set a coffee maker and put out bagels and pastries, and there is an entire fridge - great for leftovers.
2,8 en octubre 16, 2012
Great quiet location along the bus line that goes into downtown. Close to restaurants on Hawthorne Street. Tea and coffee shops and restaurants steps away. Overall, a clean, comfortable location with minimal interaction with the owners and self-service breakfast with variety of choices.

Bluebird Guesthouse was cozy and conveinient. It was everything we needed for our stay in Portland. Kitchen and bathrooms were clean and comfortable. Breakfasta choices were great. We had no problems booking or confirming our reservation.
2,4 en octubre 14, 2012
House was clean and eclectically furnished. Chosen because of location (near daughter's) but did not realize that because it is on Division, there would be nearly constant fairly loud traffic noise, even with the windows closed. Never met our "host? hostess?"--all dealings were either online or by impersonal printed note on bed when we arrived. Strict cancellation policies are ridiculous--should allow you 2-3 days prior to cancel, not a week. Overall feeling is that this is a big moneymaker for someone, definitely not providing a service because they enjoy it at all. Will not stay again, even at half the price.

Reccomend taking a walk in the neighborhood and looking at all the styles of houses and gardens. The Bluebird is a quiet, clean and well kept house that happens to be a B&B. We have recomended it to others and those who have stayed have also relaxed in the peace and quiet of the surroundigs.

I was happy to find a vacancy when I changed my plans a day before I arrived in Portland. My room was clean and quiet and the bed was comfortable, which was really all I hoped for, but the room and the house was also comfortable and inviting, and the free WiFi worked well. I did find the whole experience to be a bit surreal, like I was playing Zork, or a character in a thriller. I arrived after dark, punched in the code for the front door, as instructed via email, and entered a clean, well-lit house without sight or sound of another living person. Once in my room, I heard some footsteps in the hall, but never saw another person, or heard another voice until a brief encounter with a few other guests in the kitchen the next morning. I don't count this as a negative, but I mention it because I found it notable. I'm giving a high rating for service because it was so efficient, I didn't need to talk to anyone. Overall, I am quite happy with my stay. The price was reasonable, the room clean and comfortable, and the location was convenient. This will be my first choice the next time I need to stay overnight in Southeast Portland.

I was pretty happy overall with my stay - I just wish the breakfast offerings featured something besides carbs (I'm gluten-free) and that it was possible to open the window in my room (there was an a/c unit and the house was musty). Otherwise, the location was great - several good eats, a tea house, and yoga within walking distance, and a 10-minute walk to the Hawthorne district. My room was small, but comfortable for one person, and having a skylight made a big difference since the room was rather dark overall.

We really enjoyed our stay here and couldn't ask for more. Beautiful house, nice room, friendly guests, great location. It was quiet, and set in a nice neighborhood with good cafes and restaurants, easy parking, etc. Enjoyed pokpok Thai restaurant, micro brew bar/restaurant across street, vintage/consignment shops etc. House had maps etc and was a quick drive to airport, the falls, etc. Place was not available during our whole stay, so we had to book a hotel downtown afterwards. Bluebird was much better in terms of location, value, etc. Looking forward to coming back sometime.

This was a perfect home base for our visit to Portland. We love the front porch, where we sat to wait for friends. All facilities were kept impeccably clean and the kitchen is welcoming and well-managed. I only wished we could open the window in our room (Ken Kesey). It got a bit stuffy and we had to use a/c although the weather was cool. I highly recommend this guest house as an affordable and charming stay in a great location. Excellent restaurants and shopping nearby.

This was a surprise; it is very conveniently located in an interesting neighborhood with very close & fast bus service to city center. I would definitely make this choice on my next visits to Portland.

It is really easy to make yourself at home in this guesthouse. Our room was very clean and cozy with an incredibly comfortable bed. The common areas are also very welcoming. The continental breakfast was delicious and I loved the "help yourself" style. Don't worry if the room you book does not have a bathroom in it, ours didn't. Sharing was certainly not an issue.

Charming, convenient, good value. Service? Well, I never saw anyone other than guests, but everything seemed to be kept in good order. Dining? Ummm, just bagels and English muffins plus fruit in the kitchen. But the bed was comfy and rooms were large (Beverly Cleary) if somewhat dimly lit.

The bluebird is not your typical B&B, it's your own little place with full use of two sitting rooms, kitchen, dining room and outdoor areas. Our room "Beverly Cleary" was spacious with a nice private bath. Breakfast was "do it yourself" which turned out to be just fine. Nice neighborhood for walking, shopping, dining. The place is a little difficult to spot from the street, especially at night, but I would happily return there again.

Ideal location. The bus stpped right across the street, and lovely restaurants and shops within an easy walk.We had the smallest room, the Raymond Carver, and it was small. The other bedrooms were nice. However, it didn't really matter as there were so many other cozy rooms to sit in.

Stayed in the Elliot Smith room. It was OK, but a little drab, and not having a bathroom on the same floor is a pain. Also, the room was very clean, but there was a spider in the bed when I opened it - not a big deal but it freaked me out. But we loved the breakfast, the service was super nice, and the other rooms look really nice. I'd stay at the Bluebird again and try to get another room.

We arrived late at night the day after Christmas, so perhaps it was not surprising that I couldn't contact anyone by the posted phone numbers. After receiving help finding the appropriate bus, we got to Bluebird with no fuss. The room was spacious and the rest of the house quite clean and full of antique character. I loved it, my wife thought the basement looked haunted. I appreciated the directions provided when we got in, and would be happy to stay again.

Staying at the Bluebird Guesthouse was what I imagine post-collage house sharing might be. Folks came and went, used the kitchen and common areas as needed, engaged in pleasantries or more in depth conversation. There are several places in the common areas to sit to eat or work on laptops or whatever. Most evenings, we sat on the porch swing after our evening walk in the surrounding neighborhood. Terrific location on main bus line into downtown and a 10-minute walk to the Hawthorne area which we enjoyed more each time we went. Our room was simple and clean.

We loved our stay at the Bluebird. We will definitely be back next time we are in Portland. My husband took me to Portland for my birthday weekend and the Bluebird was just the place. It is right on Division street, with some of Portland's best restaurants and coffee only blocks away to the left and right. We brought out bikes and were able to bike everywhere without breaking a sweat: downtown, pearl district, sunnyside, etc. - the location is central and perfect. The guesthouse was very clean, well kept, welcoming, the vibe is super cool with a retro flair. Breakfast is simple but tasty and its nice have the flexibility to serve yourself as you like. I recommend the Bluebird Guesthouse to anyone looking for a unique, affordable stay with local charm.

I was in Portland for over a week and was not familiar with the southeast area where the Bluebird Guesthouse is located. I was on a budget for my trip and I did not want to spend most of my travel dollars on lodging. As a single woman, I wanted a safe and clean establishment and neighborhood. I selected the least expensive room and it was perfect because Bluebird is convenient to public transportation to downtown and there were lots of restaurants and grocery stores within the area. My room was small, however it was great for the price and I had access to the common areas and the kitchen, so it met my expectations fine. The breakfast, while not gourmet, was generous and the coffee great and a few times I cooked dinner, in after a long day out sightseeing. I would definitely stay there again.

The Bluebird Guesthouse is great - nicer, cleaner, and quieter than a hostel with more flexibility than a B&B. Great location! I especially like this place because we can make our own breakfast with the items provided at the time we want. It feels like a home-away-from home.

This is our third stay at the Bluebird. Our daughter lives nearby. Sometimes my parents join us. The convenience of the available kitchen & dining and outdoor table enabled us to have an 85th birthday celebration for my Dad in an intimate environment rather than somewhere more distracting for seniors. Breakfast, public transportation, convenient dining and a relaxing atmosphere make this a great choice for us.

Charming and picturesque, the bungalow sits up a flight of steps from a busy street. The rooms are not as spacious as the pictures online might suggest, but they are more than adequate. The common areas, on the other hand, are roomy. The kitchen is large and light and fairly well-stocked. The breakfast is make-your-own, which is fine, but don't look for the griddle to make pancakes; there isn't one. Parking can be tricky; parking a block away is not unusual. The house is located in a pleasant neighborhood, perfect for a long walk. It is also on Division Street and Hawthorne is nearby - both are great shopping for new and vintage goods. Stay at Bluebird if you are looking for a bit of comfortable nostalgia and peaceful leisure. While I preferred the do-it-yourself entertaining style, I know some prefer more company and structure. Don't expect live-in hosts to break down every experience for you or groups of friendly guests gathering every evening for scrabble. Do expect a soothing, quiet atmosphere, comfortable beds, clean towels everyday, and great coffee. I will be back.

We have stayed at the Blue Bird Guest House twice; both visits have been very nice. The house is clean, comfortable and relaxing. The kitchen is guest friendly for preparing your own meals if you choose and every morning breakfast treats and coffee are waiting. The Staff "Nina" is very accommodating and pleasant.

good location, interesting neighborhood, lots of places to eat nearby, easy to get downtown, close to transit, decor was nice, not overstuffy but could use a bit of dusting in the rooms, breakfast was great - lots of choices, but they should provide milk for tea (can't drink tea with half and half cream!) I would recommend this place and will definitely come again.

For my needs, taste and expectations I considered our experience at the Bluedbird Guesthouse to be completely satisfying. It is simple, elegant, in a great location, very clean and private. I feel we got our money's worth.

I stayed for one night in the Raymond Carver room. It was a wonderful cozy room with a great reading light easily accessed from the completely comfortable bed. The large round mirror at the dressing table was a nice touch. A sweet little bathroom just a few feet down the hall and a bright kitchen with freshly brewed coffee and English muffins in the morning left me wanting nothing more. This is my second visit to the Bluebird and I hope to be back again.

I stayed at Bluebird recently and I loved the home. It was very clean and maintained. I loved sitting on the porch and reading a book and the house was full of beautfiul antiques. The neighborhood is also great with restaurants and shopping and a nice park. The breakfast at this B&B was disappointing. I'm used to meeting the owners and enjoy a bit more of a personal touch when I stay at a B&B, which is the reason I choose them. But if those things don't bother you, you will probably enjoy your stay here.

If I'm ever back in Portland, I will stay here again. Great location in walking distance to restaurants, shops and a food cart pod; clean and adorable rooms; beautiful craftsman details; and a great price. If you want to experience Portland as if you lived here, this is the place to stay!

Bluebird is in a perfect location for exploring SE Portland on foot and it is very easy to get to other parts of the city by car or bus. Division and Hawthorn streets are packed with cute shops restaurants and bars. The guest house is very cute. It is an old house and the floors make noise so bring ear plugs if that would bother you while sleeping. (This was only a problem during middle of the day napping when people were in and out more often) It has all the amenities you would expect and several price points depending on the room you want. We will definitely stay again.

I have stayed in bluebird guesthouse many times with friends and family. It is a lovely craftsman style home with warmth and everything you need for your stay. It fits well for the traveler who wants to be left alone and appreciates staying in a quiet setting. The rooms are very clean and if you have a room without a bathroom there's one right in the hallway. I like the self service approach to helping yourself to breakfast of bagels, fruit and coffee in the morning but if you are looking to be pampered or waited on then this should not be your choice!I love staying here as it feels like a home!

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our five-day stay at the Bluebird Guest House. Our room (Beverly Cleary) was spacious and comfortable. The skylight in the bathroom made the space inviting and cheerful. The kitchen facilities were easy to use and the nearby computer room was very helpful. The surrounding neighborhood has many charming restaurants and coffee houses. The northern Thai "Pok-Pok" restaurant is just a couple of blocks away on Division Street, and the Mediterranean "Laura" is even closer. The Bluebird Guest House is great value and we will definitely plan to stay there again on future trips to Portland. Mike & Sue Philley Boise, Idaho

We stayed in two different rooms, the Gao Xingjian and the Beverly Cleary. Both were very nicely decorated and very clean. The en-suite bathroom in the Beverly Cleary room was great. The street noise in the Beverly Cleary room was pretty significant, although turning on the window A/C helps to drown it out. Would definitely stay there again.

My husband and I were pleasantly surprised with the Bluebird Guesthouse. Though there wasn't anyone to great us upon arrival, the room key was in our door and the room was well prepared. We loved the quaint bungalow feel with the modern furnishings. The floors weren't creaky as they are in many old buildings, and the walls were fairly sound proof. We thought we were the only tenants until we awoke to find 4 other people in the kitchen! The country kitchen was very welcoming, with a fridge full of items including bagels, bananas, and muffins. There were a few ants crawling on the table while eating. Also, dishes have to be cleaned by the tenant. We would happily stay at the Bluebird again as it exceeded our expectations overall. The great location and fast internet were a huge plus!

I spent a spur-of-the-moment overnight stay with Bluebird Guesthouse and totally enjoyed it. They were efficient with reservations and instructions. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was perfect and I had complete access to the kitchen if I wanted to cook something more. The rooms are not en-suite but I was there on a full night and had no troubles getting a toilet or shower.

Located in a great neighborhood, but it's best to have a car. The wifi worked well, and it was sufficiently comfortable. The walls are thin, the mattresses soft, and the floors creak, so if you're a light sleeper or have a bad back, this isn't the house for you.
4,0 en mayo 06, 2012
Although some of the rooms are quite small, everything was sparkling clean, and the hosts were friendly and accommodating. There was delicious coffee every morning and a selection of muffins, scones, bagels, etc. for a cold breakfast, along with easy do-it-yourself supplies for a cooked breakfast (eggs, pancakes). The neighborhood was full of restaurants and art shops, and, although Portland is wonderfully walkable, there was a bus stop a block away from the Bluebird.

Very clean, very comfortable and a good price. The coffee was great, the bagels and fruit were good--everything I needed for a good breakfast. I appreciated the use of the fridge and that I could have breakfast whenever I wanted. Nice to have the daily paper and plenty of room to hang out and read it. The swing on the deck was nice, too. Easy walking distance to many restaurants and a corner store. I liked that the rooms were named for authors I like and the only one I hadn't heard of inspired me to try a new author. Next time I hope to book in time for a room not on the basement level because I am a bit claustrophobic and like to sleep with the window open. But even with my neuroses, the room was fine.

I have travelled enough so that major downtown hotels with their contrieved elegance have lost their appeal. The Bluebird answers to all of the weary travellers needs. A decent room, good facilities, basic food and communications gear available plus: an atmosphere, a feeling of "this is my home", caring and friendly personell, location in a wonderfully attractive district with lots of places of interest within walking distance and a bus stop across the street for that quick downtown tour. I stayed longer than intended, I just came back home halfway round the planet;I want to return.

This was our third stay. Previously we had stayed in the Gao Xingjian room in the basement, but we decided to upgrade to a room with a private bathroom this time and stayed in the Beverly Cleary. Although it was convenient to have a room with its own bathroom, it was like sleeping next to a freeway. The street noise was very significant, even with a fan on to try to drown out the noise. The room itself was nice and clean. The bed was comfortable. However, next time I would go back to the Gao Xingjian room (or something that faces the backyard, maybe) because the basement walls insulate against the street noise quite well. Breakfast is self-serve bagels, spreads and fruit. They had a bad ant problem in the kitchen (in the past they had some, but this was a swarm of them on the island). We didn't see them in the dining room or other areas of the house. Overall, it's still a good place to stay.

Our first stay in Portland at the Bluebird, it was fairly easy to find coming in off the I-5. Settled in a great neighborhood with a few great places close by to get a decent meal and some great beer! A few to many Subaru's for my liking in that hood...kinda creepy how many actually but I guess it's a sensible car?? The house has great character, large and spacious, even a BBQ in the backyard if you feel like it. The staff were polite, the breakfast of bagels, muffins, fresh fruit, coffee, tea or juice was great to get an early start. I would definitely stay here again just don't spread the word around to much or I won't be able to get a room here again. Chuckle.

Had a lovely 2 nights at your B&B. The house itself is charming and provides a surprisingly cozy sense of privacy set back nicely with trees providing a buffer from a busy street. The young ladies who work there were friendly and helpful, and the kitchen facilities and offerings got the day off to a good start. A great value and I plan on staying there whenever I'm in Portland.

We stayed in a double room with bath at Bluebird for four nights. The room was well appointed and comfortable. Although next to the kitchen, this did not prove a disadvantage since we were up by 7:30 a.m. and most guests made breakfast after that time. Breakfast fixings (continental) were very good and included fresh fruit along with bread, muffins, bagels, pancake mix, etc. The only issue was noise (lively conversatioin)one night in the living room after 11 p.m. But when we asked the guests to quiet down, they did. We'd stay at Bluebird again, however and rate it four star.

Laid back and just right. Conveniently located within walking distance of both the bustling Hawthorne district and public transportation. Our fellow guests were very sympathetic and, while I'm sure our hosts are lovely people, it was nice not to need to visit with them: a very relaxed stay. We enjoyed breakfasting at our own pace and having the kitchen at our disposal. A few of the nice touches: the daily newspaper, the computer for guests' use, the robes (with pockets for the room key), washer/dryer availability, for those longer stays. Our daily caretakers and bringers of clean laundry and fresh food were friendly and accommodating. We couldn't reserve a room with a private bath, but even though the guest house was full for most of our stay, there were enough facilities that we never had to wait for a bathroom. Only negative: ants in our room and no ant traps available to stem the tide.

This is a beautiful, clean, hospitable B & B. Little touches - like a guitar in the lobby and a little sitting room with a fireplace going - make it very homey. I plan to return when I am next in Portland.

Centered in a buzzing young neighborhood, rooms solid and comfortable without being frou-frou like so many b&bs, kitchen available to save travel bucks by cooking your own dinners, excellent coffee and bagels, a sweet friendly hostess in the mornings. I have never stayed at a guesthouse before, so we weren't sure what to expect. It is basically a very, very nice hostel arrangement with every amenity you could need (e.g. fridge full of great breakfast foods, brand new washer and dryer, complimentary computer/internet, etc.) Our room was very classy and comfortable. This whole house appears to have undergone a massive renovation, but has retained all of it's 1920?s character. Every detail is polished and new feeling. Unbelievable, especially for what we paid. Why anybody would stay in a hotel, or anywhere else in Portland for that matter, I couldn't say. This place would be perfect for romantic couples, business folk, families, and/or people looking for a very nice place for cheap (we were in the first and last categories). Never staying anywhere else in Portland again.

The Bluebird is a great little place for the DIY B&B kind of person. My room, though small, was quite cozy for one person and the rest of the house affords other venues in which to spend time. The kitchen is big and bright and clean with options available for a light fix-it-yourself breakfast. My only negative critique is that the bagels and muffins are certainly not fresh daily and don't seem to be replaced until they're gone - even if that takes several days. The location on Division is OK, though the shops and amenities are a bit more sparse than if it were on Hawthorne. However, Hawthorne is just a short walk away.

The overall decor of the house was what we were looking for, and the photos on the website did it justice. Thanks again! Steve

When I first arrived in Portland, I took the wrong bus and ended up on the NE side (as it turns out, most routes have the same number bus in each direction, but I was new to public transport). So, my first impression wasn't all that great of the city. By around 3:30pm I finally made it to the right stop and walked down the street to Bluebird. I let myself in, was aided in finding my room by a wonderful older woman who was also staying there, and settled in with no problems. The turning point early on in my trip was Bluebird Guesthouse. It made such a great impression that I was able to feel more comfortable in the city and less like a horribly lost tourist. The Guesthouse is nice and clean, cozy, and really it just feels like you've lived there for some time after you've spent the night. I had a really great experience, and it was a lot of fun. When I go back to Portland to see the things that I missed out on this time around, I'll definitely go back to Bluebird.

I finally booked early enough to get a room at the Bluebird! I loved staying there. The location is excellent, plenty of free parking to ditch your car and walk this lovely neighborhood. Accomodations were clean and cute. I loved the decor. WiFi worked fine. My only comment is that on the 2nd floor, some numbers or markings on the door would be great especially if you arrive at night to easily find the bathrooms. I already booked my next stay at the Bluebird!

I lived in PDX for many years, back in the 1990s, and oh, the nostalgia I felt at Bluebird Guesthouse -- it embodies the best of southeast Portland style: comfortable, colorful, cozy, clean, classy, and a teeny bit creaky all at once. I will definitely stay there again!

Loved my four-day stay here. Stayed in two different rooms on the second floor just to change things up, neither of which had its own bathroom, but I never had to wait in line to take a shower or brush my teeth. The house has a lot of character and plenty of common area. The rooms are adorable. I slept so well, very quiet and relaxing. The staff was very helpful. Everything was also very clean and tidy. Also, the bus line that goes to the train station has a stop right in front, so very convenient location on a street full of shops. Finally, I really liked that the continental breakfast food was left in an accessible spot throughout the day so that if you wanted a second coffee or banana later in the day it was there for you to have. Overall, I was really impressed, and thought that my experience at the Bluebird was totally worth the value, which is reasonable anyway. I even got to enjoy the bench-swing in the front porch! A beautiful place for any season, and I would totally stay here again on a future visit to Portland!

Nice old fashioned house with comfortable rooms, even in the economy rooms in the basement. Big kithcen and dining room so it was really nice to be able to keep some things in the refrigerator and cook a few meals, especially breakfast. (They did provideorange juice, a hot pot of coffee and bagels, muffins and oatmeal every morning, as well as bananas and apples, but I liked to make my own omelet in the mornings.) Since I only drink decaf, it was great to have a coffee shop right next door so I could start every morning with a decaf latte. Division Street is a great place to be in Portland and it made a good home headquarters whether I was going into the city or doing things in the suburbs each day .Bathroom access was OK, especially since there were not many other guests while I was there, but I imiagine it could be a bit dicey if the house was full. Really nice group areas (living room and den with firepace) besides the big kitchen and dining room. Very clean and well run; folks were very helpful and courtious but not intrusive on your privacy. It was nice to have a washer and dryer avaiable for my week long stay. I would most definitely stay there again on another trp to Portland. So much better than an inpersonal hotel

Overall this place is great. It's convenient, quiet, low key, no fuss, clean and a great price. I never actually met anyone running the place. They seem to trust you to look after yourself which works great - as compared to other B&Bs where I've stayed. The only negative I would give is the baked goods which are part of the continental breakfast seemed to be there for several days - the bagels/muffins etc never seemed to change and the former were really tough. The kitchen is available for use, and really, it is PDX so it's almost shameful to not eat out for breakfast.

I spent Friday night in the Gabrielo Garcia Marquez room at the Bluebird, and it was just wonderful. The bed was comfy and the location -- right on Division Street -- made getting to downtown Portland a very easy proposition. The #4 Trimet bus goes right past the front door and takes you to Portland's Old Town/Chinatown with no need to change lines. Very handy! The guest house is also located near to the Hawthorne district, where I took in a music show at the Hawthorne Theater and near excellent places to dine. You can tell I had a great time in Portland -- and staying at the Bluebird made everything easy.

I ended up at the Bluebird guesthouse for the first time four years ago, when all the hostels I tried were full; since then I've been waiting to go back - and it was well worth the four-year build-up! It's a very cosy place, though you should probably avoid it if you're very asosial, and prefer crisp, white towels and sterile surroundings. If, however, you enjoy old houses, don't mind creaking beds, and wouldn't mind staying in a place where you can end up in lots of random conversations with - from what I experienced - very pleasant people, this place is definitely worth a try! The service is lovely, the shared bathrooms are plenty, the breakfast is good (and you have the option of buying your own food, storing it in the fridge and making whatever you want to - it would probably be quite practical for people with food allergies), and there are maps available, as well as a selection of books left over from previous guests. It's not the kind of place that is a good fit for everyone (they don't allow kids under the age of six, and it might not be very family-friendly if you have younger children), but if you want something unique, this is definitely the place for you! I, personally, am hoping I won't have to wait four years for my next visit.

Staying at the Bluebird Guesthouse was such a delight! We arrived late after a long day of travel and were pleasantly surprised to find the place easily. Having the key-code access at the front door was nice not to have to worry about keeping someone up late to let us in. We stayed in the Beverly Cleary room, which had a comfy queen size bed, lots of storage for us to unpack and a huge private bathroom with a skylight over the toilet! The charm of this old craftsman's style house really shined through and we felt at home right away. I also appreciated the fresh cup of (good!) coffee in the morning and the spread of bagels and muffins. We even made some pancakes one morning. Nina was sweet and wonderful to chat with, it was like having a really great roommate :) The best part of staying at the Bluebird was the easy of accessing the #4 bus which takes you straight downtown. So convenient! My husband and I will definitely stay here next time we visit Portland!

I stayed here for 3 nights last week and it was perfect for my needs. The neighborhood was quiet, there was easy parking, and the house is close walking distance to cafes/shops and a short drive away from downtown. Nina was super cool and helpful. The room was quiet, simple, and inexpensive. There was a copy of the Elliott Smith biography in the nightstand which was a nice touch. Having a shared bathroom means walking upstairs, but it was never occupied when I needed it. Since most of my time there was spent exploring Portland, I wasn't really using the kitchen or living room much at all. However, there is room to sit and read in the living room or enjoy the continental breakfast in the kitchen. Overall, I would stay here again if visiting Portland and I would recommend it to others. -Jared (San Francisco, CA)

This place is clean, cute and cozy. It's centrally located; everything you need is within walking distance. The guest computer saved me. The owner was incredibly helpful and sweet. The coffee and breakfast was delicious and convenient. I'm staying there again in 3 weeks!

Spent 4 nights in the Raymond Carver room -- good for a single person, too small for two. Location was wonderful -- great restaurants within a few blocks, Hawthorne District an easy walk. Parking was just as good as represented -- amazing to this New Yorker.

A really nice, quiet B&B with friendly staff and excellent service in a beautiful character house. So relaxing that we could have spent all day hanging out on the porch with coffee and reading the newspaper.

Clean and comfortable. Choose the rooms in the back of the house. Front rooms face Division ST. which can be noisy. Staff extremely friendly and helpful.

we stayed in the Beverly Cleary room (own bath). it was roomy, bed very comfortable, spotless, continental breakfast & 24 hr access to kitchen a real plus, convenient location. The windows open! Best was the big porch and porch swing and the greenery surrounding it -- a real haven for us (we were in Portland for a big family event) -- and you're not trapped inside and in your room as you would be in a classic hotel Place ran very smoothly -- owners had thought of everything. Priced right. We will be back when we next visit Portland.

I really enjoyed my 6 night stay here while getting my daughter settled in college. The large kitchen was wonderfully stocked and felt like home with the "help yourself" service. My only wish was that the windows could be open for fresh air. The window AC was fine, but at night would rather have fresh air. I fully recommend staying here!

We stayed in the cozy Raymond Carver room at the beginning and end of our holiday this year. The B&B was tastefully decorated (no dried flowers!) and it was great to stay in a Craftsman and enjoy the architecture. We sat out on the veranda swing one evening playing a guitar from the B&B! Our stay was very quiet, and the place was very clean and tidy. I didn't even feel like there were other guests there. Nina took very good care of us an gave us recommendations about visiting Portland and Oregon. Thanks!

Since we arrived past mid-night, we did not meet any staff member. But we had been given clear instructions and everything was well prepared and organized. The room and bathroom were very clean, comfortable and well thought out.

I recommend the Bluebird as a base for anyone wanting to explore Portland. The house itself is a beautiful building, great location on Division St, some great restaurants and bars a short walk away. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, a great value place to stay.

This is not really a B&B. We consider it more of a upscale hostile. Breakfast was "stuff in the fridge" get it when you need it. There was coffee ready to be made and lots of great teas. We went out for breakfast because I need more than a muffin or bagel. But the location is close to great restaurants so it was easy to find a coffee shop for restaurant for breakfast. It sits on a busy street so its not super quite but we live urban and it was fine. The window air conditioner took some time to get use to. The price is great along w/ the location it was perfect for our stay in Portland. Easy interstate access and 15 min. from the airport. Awesome.

The Bluebird is a charming, low-key guesthouse. It's great to come and go as you please. The staff are available and helpful in the middle of the day, while in the morning and evening the guests have the place to themselves. This creates the sense of a real home away from home. The Bluebird is close to dozens of restaurants on Division and Hawthorn, and is convenient to downtown whether by bus, bike or car. We have been back every time we visit Portland, and if we had to stay anywhere else, it just wouldn't be the same. Jeff Dorr

We had a fantastic stay at the Bluebird (Beverly Cleary room). The room was large, extremely comfortable bed and had an oddly placed (though private) skylight over the toilet. The building is great - several rooms to lounge in, front porch swing, private backyard table/chairs. Just a brief (and I mean brief) walk from some amazing restaurants, cafes, etc. I could go on but really just give it a shot yourself.

Quiet, comfortable and walking distance to tasty food and delicious coffee. The perfect place to stay if you're taking a class at Bullseye Glass Factory (only about ~1 mile).

The staff at the Bluebird Guesthouse made me feel at home. The Raymond Carver room was right by the bathroom and conveniently organized, while small. The bed was particularly comfortable. The available computer helped me plan activities and transportation for my day. The location provided for a bus stop just steps from the front door. I will stay here again next time I'm in Portland.

My daughter and I stayed in the Gabriel Marquez room which has a private bath. It was a comfortable room and bed with a spacious bathroom. The room is right off the kitchen which could have been noisy, but besides hearing some light conversation in the morning, we would not have known other guests were even around! The inn has a front porch that was nice to sit and watch the neighborhood in the evening. We really enjoyed the southeast Portland area--if you have bicycles be sure to bring them--you will feel right at home exploring by bike: Voodoo Too donuts, Mt.Tabor park, shopping on Hawthorne. I plan on visiting again and would stay at the Bluebird Inn: easygoing vibe and comfortable, too!

Stayed in a small room without bath for 2 nights. Night time was noisy because child in another room must have been sick. Walls are thin in this older house. No toilet seats in the shared bathrooms a surprise. Also no dishwasher in kitchen made me wonder about sanitary practices. Kitchen was pretty clean though given how old house and fixtures are. Not enough fruit and no low/non fat options. Ended up buying most of my breakfast food as a result. One night spent in room with bath. That was ideal. All in all a good place to land especially since guesthouse is in an active and interesting neighborhood on a direct bus line to downtown. Street parking was readily available. Was greeted when I arrived but had no idea who was in charge when I left. Staff person I talked to upon arrival was extremely cordial and helpful. Bottom line, I would stay here again but only in a room with a bath.

Thank you for your review and feedback. Regarding the toilet of course they all have seats, not sure why you would say that.

We loved the Bluebird Guesthouse so much, we've already booked a future stay there! The house is very lovely. I like that the breakfast is continental and not sit-down. They have a large kitchen available for cooking in. I will be recommending to friends. Very reasonably priced too.

I was impressed with the neighborhood that the Bluebird Guesthouse was situated. The area has a bohemian flair to it. Cool cafes and thai restaurants are within walking distance. The guesthouse itself reminds me of places in Europe. Others staying there were friendly too. I would highly recommend it if you want something different from generic hotels.

We stayed at the Bluebird (Sherman Alexie roomm) for 6 nights when we in town for our brother's wedding. They live a 8 blocks away from the Bluebird, it was easy to get together and spend time with our family. Everything was very clean. Even though we were sharing a bathroom, we never had to wait. We had no problem parking on the street, most of the time, right in front. Self serve kitchen and breakfast works great. The common rooms on the first floor are cozy if you want to hang out in the evening. We found plenty of resturants and shops within walking distance. Overall a great place to stay. We'll definately consider staying here again when we are in town (and brother's house is full of family)

This way our first stay in a B&B, and what a great choice. This inn has tons of character, and is in a funky Portland neighborhood; within walking distance are a few great antique shops (Old Portland is a must!) as well as some interesting little watering holes. A word of advice though: in the Gabriel Garcia-Marquez room, sounds from the kitchen prevent any sort of sleeping in!

We stayed in the Ken Kesey room one night and Raymond Carver the next (no room was available two consecutive nights when we booked). Both rooms were great, the difference being that for $10 more, Ken Kesey is much bigger. I wouldn't want to spend much time in Raymond Carver because it would feel cramped; fortunately, we didn't have to. The house is beautiful and nicely furnished with classic and retro stuff, all clean and in good condition. I hardly interacted with the staff except for emails, but they seemed nice and had no problem arranging our room-swap two-night stay. Same with the other guests. I had no trouble with waiting for a bathroom but I could see how that might happen; still, unless you are really in a hurry, it should be fine. The complementary breakfast foods (muffins, bagels, coffee) were a nice touch--better than standard hotels by far. Overall, I'd recommend it and would stay there again.

This was our first time in Portland, and we were looking to stay someplace with some character on the cheap with access to major public transit routes. Bluebird met our needs perfectly! Not only was the house and neighborhood fun, but very welcoming and extremely well-kept. We felt very comfortable lounging in the common areas and taking our time with breakfast in the morning or a couple glasses of wine in the evening. The guesthouse was a great way to experience Portland at a local level. We will absolutely be recommending it to friends and family!

I have to say that our stay at the Bluebird was one of the best parts of my sister and my trip to Portland. The place was charming, and we loved the area that the Bluebird was located in. For us, it was far better than staying in the heart of downtown because the area was so funky, artsy, with great vintage stores, coffee shops and restaurants (just a few blocks away on Hawthorne Street) -- we wanted to stay out there all the time. We had a rental car, and parking was extremely easy, though it was also easy to take the bus into the city (which I did as well). We loved that breakfast was "serve yourself" and used the kitchen to cook up eggs in the morning, and dinner in the evening, when we didn't feel like going out. My sister enjoyed playing her accordian on the front porch. All in all, we loved the Bluebird.

My husband and I visited Portland last year and due to a limited budget, stayed at the cheapest hotel we could find. It was so old and gross and unclean, we vowed to search for something better for our return vacation this summer. The BlueBird Guesthouse was exactly what we were looking for! The price per night was only a little bit more than the gross hotel from last year, but we got so much more bang for our buck. The room was cute with soft sheets and lamps that cast warm lighting. The kitchen had this little nook where my husband and I sat in the mornings to enjoy the breakfast that the Bluebird provided. They always had delicious bagels and muffins out plus coffee and tea and even orange juice which really came in handy when we got the cold half way through the week. The innkeeper was friendly and helpful. I asked her if she knew what the weather would be like that week; she didn't, but then came back and told me after looking it up on her computer. She went out of her way to be helpful. The whole inn was adorable with quirky quaint accents throughout every room. I was absolutely delighted and didn't want to leave. Next time I'm in Portland, this will be my go-to lodging.

The guesthouse was very quiet and had a lovely patio and backyard to relax in. The kitchen area is huge and self service. Even though the inn was booked solid, I never ran into another guest. The Bluebird Guesthouse is a hidden gem. So mellow and comfortable and a great bargain as well. Perfect location if you happen to be visiting Reed College as we were. We were charmed by the house and the neighborhood and we were able to take the bus and light rail everywhere -- didn't even need to rent a car. There is top-notch dining within walking distance -- we recommend Pok Pok Thai for an amazing dinner and Pix Patisserie for late night dessert and wine. Add in a well-stocked vintage clothing store, some lovely coffee houses, and other interesting shops, and you could easily spend the day just strolling the neighborhood.

We stayed 6 nights in the Gabriel Garcia-Marquez room. The room was large with a very nice included bathroom. The kitchen was right next door, which made it very convenient to start the coffee maker in the morning. It was already set up with really good coffee. I like that the staff is there only during the day. We heard no street noise. Our only problem was finding it at night when we first arrived. I also wished for some more protein options at breakfast, perhaps some eggs, yogurt or cheese. The bagels, muffins and organic fruit were quite fresh.

My 19 year old daughter and I only spent one night here because we already had reservations on the Oregon coast. But, the night we stayed went fine. We never had to wait to use a shared bathroom. The place was really quiet for what, at first appearance, seemed a creaky old (but cute) place where sound would carry. The neighborhood was very walkable. Bagels, fruit and coffee for breakfast was perfectly adequate. Next time I visit Portland (and hopefully get to stay longer), I'll have no hesitation in booking a stay at the Bluebird Guesthouse.

Although the owners were for the most part absent, they do a fantastic job of making sure everything we needed was available to us. There was a nice note on our bed when we got there, and breakfast in the kitchen. We enjoyed getting to know some of the other guests as they sat out on the porch or over coffee in the kitchen in the morning. The room was very cozy, well decorated, well lit, and comfortable temperature. The house itself is absolutely beautiful, and really well located. I was impressed by the value of the room. We would have paid more to stay at a hotel that wouldn't have had any character or opportunity to meet other guests. Great choice to stay here!

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this guesthouse. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and I also enjoyed interacting with my fellow travelers in the common areas. The kitchen in particular was nicely stocked and inviting, and there was free high-speed internet available for public use. My room was clean and quiet, and nicely appointed with towels, soap and a robe. I would recommend this guesthouse to anyone. Thanks, Bluebird!

We wanted to visit Portland, to see everything the city had to offer and to be in the middle of everything. Our only problem was finding somewhere affordable to stay. A friend recommended the Bluebird Guesthouse, and at $60 a night, it was right in our price range. We didn't realize until we arrived that this was more than an affordable B&B--it was in the middle of the vibrant Division Street neighborhood and only minutes from downtown. The owners weren't intrusive and everyone was friendly. The Bluebird Guesthouse was clean and the morning coffee, muffins and bagels were a great way to start each day. Highly recommended!

I stayed for 6 nights to visit our two young adult kids, our grandson and his Dad. The stay was very pleasant, inviting and the staff that I met were very helpful and kind. I think the value of staying there alone makes it worthwhile. However, it is also conveniently located, with a good system for the personal use of the kitchen and refridgerator. Parking is also fairly easy even though the street it's on is a busy one. I had a good time and the internet service worked well too.

I stayed at the Bluebird Guesthouse two nights, I was traveling solo and on a limited budget, I stayed in the $60/night room. The house was lovely, it was welcoming and very comfortable. I will defiantly stay here again. It is located in a hip part of town with restaurants and other amenities very close by. My room was in the basement, and I might warn anyone with a active bladder (or someone that had a couple beers) that they will have to walk up stairs to use the bathroom.

I travel a lot for work and have gotten in a rut of staying at the closest large chain hotel near my project area. When in Portland I usually stay at the downtown Marriott due to it's convenient proximity to my project location. However this time my project was located in hotel-barren SE Portland. To mix things up I decided to stay at the Blue Bird Guest House, and I couldn't be happier with this decision. I was able to get one of the rooms with private bath. Both the room and bath were charming, spacious and very comfortable. I love the neighborhood in which this guest house is situated. Short walk to all sorts of delicious places to eat including famed Pok Pok, a pod of food charts, a wonderful bakery, etc. Staying here made my work trip feel more like a mini-vacation. Loved it!

The Bluebird Guesthouse was the perfect place for us to stay over a long weekend during our son's college graduation. We were able to come and go--using it as our base for exploring Portland--and also enjoy a nice, quiet breakfast sitting on the back porch before we started each day. Now that our son has decided to make Portland his home, the Bluebird will always be our choice for a place to stay when we visit. Comfortable, great part of town, and as much a "home away form home" as you can find.------Parents from Minnesota

The Bluebird is in an excellent location for exploring SE Portland. It was definitely the most low-key b&b I've ever stayed at, which was mostly fine, except in the breakfast area, which was sub-par (muffins and bagels are fine, but they, along with the giant tubs of cream cheese and jam, seemed to be from Costco) and there was no juice of any kind to be had, no butter, no peanut butter, no cereal. Just the very basics. The room was very nice (the Gabriel Garcia Marquez) but it was right off the kitchen and when anyone was there, it sounded like they were in the bedroom with us. Also, more than once someone mistook our bedroom door for the door to the shared bathroom, which was a bit jarring at 3am.

We love staying at the Bluebird. It is simple, yet cozy and suits us perfectly. Sometimes we use it when we are on our way out of town or having a city respite (we live at the coast). Most recently when it was a refuge for my son and i while my husband had surgery nearby. My son could work on the computer and actually walk or bus down to the hospital. I could curl up in the evening and rest from the stresses of the process. easy walking distance to good eating too. Thanks for being there, Bluebird.

We throughly enjoyed our four nights at the Bluebird. They were gracious enough to move us between two different rooms as one room was not available straight through for all of our stay. Quiet elegance. We loved the simplicity, yet clear attention to all the details that make for a comfortable, no hassle experience. Will definitely stay there again on a return trip to Portland. Stayed at downtown hotel on one of our first trips to Portland. It was fine, but the Bluebird was so much more relaxing and convenient. Felt like being at home.

This was a great place to stay. It's near the number 4 bus that can take you downtown and over to Mississippi Avenue, which is the weirdest/best route to be on. The breakfast food was great and easy to find. The whole place was very very clean. The kitchen very organized and bright. The living room/dining area also nice. I missed having a TV in my room or the living room, but I can understand why it wouldn't be there. It would disrupt the other guests too much.

I am happy to be able to share my experience at Bluebird Guesthouse. My husband and I stayed there a few years ago when our son lived in SE Portland and loved it. So, when I scheduled a visit last week, even though he now lives in NE Portland, I was excited about staying there again. It meant I had to make a 20 minute drive to his area each day and night, but it was more than worth it. It has a warm, welcoming atmosphere that made me feel comfortable and safe. The staff is very friendly, the rooms are simple, but comfy and clean and the beds are great! I hope I have the opportunity to stay there again sometime soon.

If you enjoy staying in a beautiful old home, this is the place. I loved the architecture and feel of this home. The kitchen is very clean and spacious and has everything needed to make your own breakfast or just enjoy the delicious bagels and fruit. The coffee was ready to go every morning. I stayed in one of the rooms with a private bath which was perfect for me. I will stay there again if I'm in the Portland area.

From minute one, I felt right at home at The Bluebird Guesthouse. Nina and Monique are wonderful, the room was cozy, you have your choice of clawfoot tub or shower stall, the kitchen is fully equipped, coffee brewing, organic fruit and tea on the counter, and there are laundry facilities in the basement. What more could you ask for? The bus stops on the corner, to take you downtown, or the other way to Mt. Tabor, or you can catch a connecting bus up to Hawthorne Street. There's a computer off the kitchen, so you can plan your daily excursions online, or check your email. I would not hesitate to book again!!

We just spent six nights at the Bluebird Guesthouse and enjoyed our stay tremendously. The house was kept extremely clean, with a wonderful selection for breakfast and quiet with other respectful guests coming and going. There were opportunities for casual conversation if desired or complete privacy. The location was great if you're looking for slice of life in a neighborhood minutes from downtown and walkable to restaurants, shopping, and other neighborhoods of interest. This was the best of both worlds for a "homey" feel while on vacation yet accessible to sight seeing around Portland. If our travels ever bring us back to Portland, we would stay again and highly recommend it to others.

I would not recommend the Gabriel Garcia-Marquez Room. It is right off the kitchen and we had late night snackers having an argument 6 feet from our bed. They provide food for a continental breakfast but no service. Two of the three days we were there the coffee was gone and we had to make our own. With those reservations, I would still stay there again because of the location.

Great location, very helpful stuff - recommended good places to explore in the area. Obly one detail needs improvement - more fresh air in the house and in the room, because house is pretty old and you can feel smell of an old house, it' not too disturbing, but would be great if stuff could improve it.

I absolutely loved this guest house. Peaceful and full of character. The kitchen was nice and big if you wanted to cook in and the continental breakfast items were plenty! Using the internet was really easy, and I just loved walking around and looking at all the great architecture and furniture. Totally reasonable rates, way better than any hotel we could have gotten. Our room in the basement was clean and quaint, nothing too fancy. A bit noisy in the morning with people walking upstairs with shoes on, but the room was nice and dark at night. Taking a shower in the cool claw-foot tub was a treat! And there were so many places around the area for coffee, shopping, food trucks and breweries. We will definitely consider staying here again upon our next visit to Portland!

My Fiancée and I stayed in the Raymond Carver room, and it was just what we were looking for. Room was very small, but so full of character, color and plenty of windows that nothing seemed lacking. The house was charming, very quite and welcoming with delicious fresh bagels, muffins and fruit all day long in the kitchen. the location was perfect, just a short walk from Hawthorne, although we found parts of division to be just as lovely! We walked across the river to downtown which only took an hour, and caught the 4 bus back late that night(runs till midnight) which delivered us 1/2 block from the Bluebird. Nothing but good things to say about this place, had trouble with shower water being lukewarm but that could have been user error. We will definitely stay here again!

We arrived in Portland after 10 hours of travel time, it was midnight by the time we tiptoed onto the front steps of the Bluebird Guesthouse. Even in the dark I could tell we made a good decision in choosing to stay a few days in this particular B&B, not only was it’s location perfect to explore the neighborhood but easily within walking distance to some of Portland’s best mom & pop shops. And the overall decor and feel of the Bluebird Guesthouse was adorable. We quickly felt right at home. During our stay we met a few friendly faces at breakfast and exchanged a couple casual hellos in the living area. Everyone was friendly but private, so we felt perfectly free to move about and leave whenever we pleased. I'm confident in saying we’d choose to stay there again, although this time we’d opt to pay a little extra for an upstairs bedroom, that gets less foot traffic. Even so, it was a charming and relaxing place to call home for a few nights in Portland.

the house is beautiful; it felt so homey, or like staying at a friend's house who was away and left little notes for you everywhere. we stayed in the elliott smith room, and the value was outstanding. we loved the breakfast options, too, and all the little details about the house (like that pull-down door with the flywheel and the porch swing). thank you so much for making such a great place for us to stay on our trip!

This is a beautiful and well taken care of guesthouse. The rooms are cozy and impeccable and this is arguably the best neighborhood in Portland, lots of coffee shops, dining, and fun places nearby. The breakfast is continental-- bagels, cream cheese, and muffins. Wonderful!!

My wife and I found the Bluebird Guesthouse to be the perfect match for our needs. It was warm, friendly, comfortable and perfectly located for us. The guitar that rested in the sitting area was a special bonus for someone who did not bring their instrument on vacation! Our next visit to Portland will include the Bluebird Guesthouse.

I have stayed at the Bluebird on two occasions. It is fun and comfy, well situated to drive, walk or take the bus to explore the neighborhood and other parts of Portland.

Very homey and low-key. Access to spacious kitchen and free internet.

My boyfriend and I stayed in the Shermin Alexie room. We loved the fact that you didn't need to meet with anyone to check in or out. We pulled up, unpacked and had a lot of privacy. We loved the decor of all of the colorful rooms. The breakfast options were just right. We will definetly stay again the next time we are in Portland.

Quiet, comfortable old house and room with charm; Nina is a very warm and friendly hostess; complete freedom to move around the house and meet your housemates if you wish; centrally located amidst some great neighborhoods; TV would be nice, but I had no trouble filling my time with more worthwhile activities. met some great folks in the house. Can't beat the price, but I'd be willing to pay a little more with an included hot breakfast. I'll be back!

love, love, love the bluebird guesthouse! a home away from home with wonderful warm colors, decor, nice unexpected touches here and there. it's always a peaceful place to stay in one of portland's up and coming neighborhoods with some of the best restaurants and bars just a few minutes walk away.

i stayed in the Elliott Smith for a few nights and was very happy with my stay. the room itself was modest, being one of the cheapest in the house, but was still very nice. i enjoyed using the huge and lovely kitchen, which was fully stocked with dishes, silverware and cookware. i barely noticed the other guests most of the time. the convenience of the #4 bus that runs along Division to downtown was great.

Fourth stay and we are very satisfied with the Bluebird.

This guesthouse is perfectly located if you want to explore SE Portland! There are so many restaurants and bars within walking distance - and if you want to go a little further, the #4 bus is a half-block away. The rooms are quaint, clean, and affordable. I would recommend Bluebird to all of my friends.

We enjoyed our stay. The property is well maintained and the breakfast was adequate.

My girlfriend and I spent three days at the Bluebird before continuing onto our next destination, and we will definitely be coming back the next time we're in Portland. The location is convenient to some wonderful neighborhood restaurants, and of course the bus to downtown. The rooms are all different, of course, but we were in the Sherman Alexie and we found it to be comfortable and amply sized. It was so nice to have laundry available in the house, and although we didn't get around to using the kitchen much, it was good to know it was there as well. We both loved the fact that there aren't any TVs in the house, because that makes you more likely to spend time in the common areas, where you can meet your fellow guests (we had a great time playing a few games of dominoes with a couple visiting from California). All in all, we are very satisfied with our stay.

Bluebird Guesthouse will always have a special place in my heart. I may a bit biased since they were willing accomplices to my boyfriend's efforts to woo me with flowers and sweet-nothings! Putting my love life aside, I was very impressed with the cleanliness, atmosphere, and affordability of this charming home. I would recommend it to friends and family visiting Portland.

This guesthouse really felt like a "home away from home:" with kitchen privileges, a computer and phone for our use, it had all the conveniences of home. Even though it is located on a busy street, the rooms were amazingly quiet, and I especially appreciated the thermostat in my room that allowed me to turn down the heat.

This was a great find, in a great location! It's a nice older home, no frills, but very comfortable. There is shared space, kitchen, living and dining, that was nice to relax in during down time. Breakfast was simple, but adequate, and the kitchen is totally available for use if you want something more. Location is accessible to Hawthorne area and lots of shops and restaurants. We were there for 3 nights-did not have a room with a private bath, but for the money was very doable!

Loved the Blue Bird. Able to prepare Thanksgiving dishes for our meal, quite a plus!

Great place to stay in Portland. There a many shops and restaurants in walking distance to the road going parallel. Nice rooms and a shared kitchen that you can cook your own food, if you want to. I can higly recomend it!

A great place to stay! I always try to book this place when I stay in Portland. It is like staying at a friend's house but with your own room. Clean, quiet, and run by very nice people. Oh, and a terrific location if you're looking for something close to cafes, brew pubs, transit, etc!

We stayed 5 nights at the Bluebird Guesthouse in the same room Elliot Smith on the downstairs floor. It was quiet, clean, we just had just a small window but the queen bed was comfortable. We were glad to meet Nina, who looked after the kitchen supply and ensured our comfort. We liked the independence of location and vibrant neighborhood of Portland, we will return with pleasure. I have stayed here a number of times and won't stay anywhere else in Portland. This is a great value and super cute. It's so nice to have a kitchen to use, but one that doesn't feel like grand central station like in hostels. I wish there were Bluebird Guesthouses in every city!

The Bluebird lets you be yourself. The rooms are cozy, the public spaces are inviting. The facilities are great with a nice detail for history. It is in a great neighborhood -- and just three blocks from Pok Pok Thai restaurant. We stayed for six nights and would go back in an instant.

Thanks for your fine, funky hospitality recently. It was my first stay at Bluebird and I'm sure I'll be back, since it seems my older son loves living in Portland---can't think why. The free wi-fi connection and washer-drier were both pleasant surprises---the place is spotless and decorated with some interesting old photos. Other guests were very quiet. Hot coffee, muffins and bagels were always ready in the early morning. I liked Division Street-- glad to hear you may be starting up at another location too.

A wonderful mix of turn-of-the-century boarding house and 50's decor. It's the perfect place for an independent traveler who enjoys b & b's but not the fussiness of it all--You want a bagel, it's there on the table; cream cheese is in the fridge. Make it yourself. And it's good. I will make it a point to return to this clean, unique and undemanding place.

Rooms are named after Oregon authors - neat idea, but there was nothing in the room to honor Beverly Cleary other than two books hidden in the drawer! Appreciated "Socks" nonetheless. Never saw any staff while we were there, which was fine - kind of felt like it was my place! Perhaps just me or one two many horror movie, but it felt a little spooky (because we didn't see anyone?). Overall, recommended if you would like simplicity and value.

Overall this charming guesthouse in SE Portland, OR exceeded my expectations and is high on my list as a place to stay on my next visit to Portland, OR. Wonderful to have a house as a home base to explore a new city when the local efficient TriMet can get you downtown quickly. Was great to have good coffee and some fruit available each morning as part of the included continental breakfast although the quality of the available muffins was a bit dubious. Also, there are many coffee, eating, dining options, including a selection of foodcarts and a New Seasons grocery store within comfortable walking distance. Highly recommend Bar Avignon a little further down SE Division Street. However, for a guest house that names its rooms after authors the lighting was not bright enough to read in certain rooms and certain locations in the guest house once dark. Common areas are spacious although, at times, far too warm in the common areas. The local Oregonian paper delivered daily was a helpful resource too. Also, very comfortable bed.

The Bluebird Guesthouse is a cool little inn in southeast Portland, within a reasonable walk of the Hawthorne District. It's right down the street from a pod of food carts, the Pix Patisserie, and the Weird Bar. Although it is on a busy street, the Bluebird is surprisingly quiet -- we didn't notice any urban noise during our stay. The Bluebird is an excellent value. We stayed in the Ken Kesey room (a cute touch: a copy of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" in the nightstand drawer), for $70 a night. To get a comparable rate from a regular motel, we'd have had to stay in the suburbs -- and who wants that? Breakfast is informal -- bagels, muffins, fruit and pancake mix for anyone ambitious enough to make pancakes. The kitchen was also available for use throughout the day, which would especially be convenient during a longer stay. The house is clean and charming, and well-maintained. We will definitely stay at the Bluebird again, any time we need to stay overnight in Portland.

What a wonderful place to stay when in Portland. I hate motels, and this was just what I needed when visiting my son in Portland. Clean rooms, quiet, lovely common areas and a helpful and super nice staff made this the place to go. I'll definitely be back!

Pleased to finally get to stay at the Bluebird, an understandably popular guesthouse given it's eye to comfort and at a very comforting price. A lovely soak in the clawfoot tub after a delicously spicy meal at Pok Pok, a read of one of Raymond Carver's short stories, and a peaceful sleep. Can't wait for the opportunity to return.

My husband and I stayed for two nights. The house is a great base for exploring Portland, as its decor gives you a sense of the blend of old with new that seems to typify the city. The continental breakfast available was great. The first floor features several sitting rooms to relax in, as well as a nice front porch swing.

Nice lodging. Arrived to an empty, quiet house. Room was clean. Bed was comfy. Bathroom was clean. Our stay was one night only and it was quiet. We didn't actually encounter anyone, but it was a nice place and centrally located for the SE part of Portland. They had computers available too to internet. I'd recommend it to friends.

I stayed in Portland alone, so was a little apprehensive about knowing my surroundings. The staff was extremely helpful in directing me around town and made me feel very comfortable. Thank you so much for making my stay so nice!

only bed and breakfast that the owner does not live there. Makes the stay even better because you don't feel like you're intruding on their space. furnishings are little funky but again makes you feekl comfortable. Not a hottie tottie place. near everything you would want to do from the best thai food to great dessert all within two blocks

I loved the simplicity of staying at Bluebird. I was able to check myself in and out without needing to talk to anyone, and everything was as it should be: clean room, nice towels and toiletries, great bed. Location is in walking distance to nightlife and yummy restaurants, and if you're driving, street parking is easy to find. I stayed in the Gabriel Garcia-Marquez with a private bath and it should be noted that this room adjoins the kitchen which can get noisy in the morning when people are getting breakfast. Also, the floors are a little creaky which could disturb your sleep if someone's walking around at night or early morning.

Our weekend away in Portland would not have been the same without our quaint little room at the Bluebird! In a lovely neighbourhood full of heritage homes, the guesthouse immediately became our home away from home. Bagels, muffins, organic fruit and tea every morning in the breakfast nook was the perfect way to start our day. And after a day spent vintage shopping and exploring Powell books, it was the perfect place to come back to for an afternoon nap before heading out to many of the surrounding local restaurants or for a night out. We stayed the Elliot Smith downstairs, it was quiet, bed was comfortable, and the room was small but just big enough for two. The complimentary bath robes came in handy when you had to run upstairs to use the bathrooms as well! The house was full when we stayed and there was never a problem waiting for a bathroom either. On our next visit to Portland, we’ll definitely be staying there again!

We stayed in the Gabriel Garcia-Marquez Room. It was a charming, well-lit room with clean robes in the closet and a large clawfoot tub in the bathroom. I would probably not stay in this room again because it is right off the kitchen and not very soundproof- made it hard to sleep in! I like the ease that the key-code entry provided upon arrival- hassle-free! All of the common areas are awesome and open- I wish we would have had more time to hang out! The breakfast was pretty simple- muffins, bagels, do-it-yourself pancakes and a less than appetizing selection of fruit. Just butter, jam, and cream cheese for spreads, so not many choices for protein. Eco-friendly environment was awesome! Great value for an area within walking distance of Hawthorne street. I would definitely stay at the Bluebird in the future!

My boyfriend and I stayed only one night in Portland, but we were both very pleased with the Bluebird Guesthouse. It's in a great location, and the house itself is quite beautiful. We stayed in one of the smaller (and cheaper!) rooms downstairs because the other rooms were all booked. It was a very pleasant stay, short but sweet. I would stay here again.

This cozy place is perfect for a short (or long) stay in Portland. A perfect spot to lay your head, it is quiet and serene. In the morning, there is a plethora of good coffee and morning treats. The staff is friendly and the rooms are just right, each named after a famous author. I highly recommend this cute, quaint, personable establishment for travel (personal or business). ~ Carey B. The staff & innkeeper were friendly & helped us get orientated, chatted about Porltand & what-not without making us feel like we were in someone else's house... a perfect mix of hospitality. The guesthouse is kept very clean, and we loved the style, not overdone but had all the stuff you'd want, such as a good continental breakfast and bath robes even. Can't say enough good things about this gem... we'll be back!!

Good location for visits or business in SE Portland. Never met a staff person in 5 days. Breakfast is good except for margarine not butter in kitchen.
