We have extended family in SE Portland and we have stayed at the Bluebird Guest House during many annual visits. We have stayed in several different rooms, with and without private baths. Our favorite room is the Beverly Cleary. Everything is clean and neat and functional. You can walk to many cafes and restaurants. Public transportation is at the corner. I would definitely recommend this guesthouse to others.

We spent two nights in the Raymond Carver room. Even though the website already described it as small and we had seen pictures of the room in advance, we were still surprised about the small size of the room. Do not let the wide-angle lens pictures deceive you, the bed barely fits inside the room! You can only enter the bed by one side. Besides this small issue (hehe), we're quite content. The house was beautiful, the price decent, the location reasonable, etc.

This place was amazingly beautiful. Due to bookings, we had to switch rooms but we didn't have to even carrry our luggage to our new room, they did all of that for us and hung our suits/dresses for us too. The beds were huge and comfortable. Our private bathrooms immaculately clean. Soft cotton robes provided. The rooms were lovely, really lovely. The breakfast that is provided was wonderful. Coffee, pastries, muffins, fruit, even some gluten free offerings. There were two problems with this place. The first is parking. There is no parking ot and you have to find street parking. We found it, but it was a hassle sometimes. The second problem with this place is the neighbors and their dogs. I'm sure they are nice people, but when I go on vacation, I want to sleep in. You can't do that with the two yappy dogs next door. One evening, we wanted to enjoy a glass of wine on the front porch. This time the neighbors weren't home, but the dogs were and their windows were open. For the 30 minutes we attempted to enjoy the lovely porch, we had to listen to these dogs at the window right next to us, barking incessantly. It was non-stop. We finally moved to the back yard. One would hope that the dogs would have stopped, but they didn't. They just kept on barking. I loved this place, but we will never go back because of those dogs.

Nice to have restaurants we could walk to. Close enough to train that we could bike to the guesthouse from there. Good price & value for our stay. Would be nice to have gluten-free breakfast items that weren't sweet pastries. Nice to have fridge for our items. Common space & computer access were good to have also.

Great place to stay - basic but clean/well-maintained facilities. Homely feel, plenty of privacy and a generous breakfast. Location is excellent - away from busy downtown and in Portland's up-and-coming gastronomic hub.

I needed a room for an overnight in Portland and was looking for a B&B to save some money and perhaps get off the beaten path a little. I stay in hotels a lot for work and it's nice to have a homier touch, but I've never really cared much about the breakfast part (having to make small talk first thing in the morning isn't my style). Bluebird Guesthouse fit the bill perfectly--it's on the other side of the river from downtown, so I got to see more of the city; it was affordable and offered one-night stays where many in the area required 2-3 nights; the rooms were cute, comfortable and clean (I stayed in the Beverly Cleary room); you can show up whenever you want and use the common areas until your room is ready and breakfast is a la carte in the kitchen so there's no schedule to adhere to. SE Division street is undergoing a revitalization and within a couple blocks of the Bluebird there are several fantastic restaurants (I had dinner at Sunshine Tavern and brunch at Lauretta Jean's). You don't need a car either--the 4 Bus runs right from Division to Downtown and connects to the MAX. All in all, a great stay and a terrific experience.

We arrived shortly after 4 PM. The staff that comes to service the guesthouse each day were gone, but that was absolutely ok because their instructions were very clearly written and welcoming. We made ourselves right at home. Nice, warm decoration - clean facilities. We stayed in the Elliot Smith room, which is actually in the basement, but the room smelled fresh, clean, and it was nice and cool. That was refreshing since it was rather warm out. Breakfast foods were good - lots of options and fresh. The other guests were very kind and quiet at the appropriate hours. It was a great location with delightful neighboring businesses: a coffee house, a tea house, and a delicious Italian restaurant with $5 large wood-fired pizzas at happy hour. Walking distance to Hawthorne St and tons of other fun things on Division. This was a great stop and we plan to return!

My daughter and I have stayed at Bluebird twice now, and both times had a fantastic time. It is very clean and peaceful. The people are always nice, and my daughter loves chatting with the other guests in the kitchen at breakfast time. They have outstanding bagels, too :)
