Wonderfully Tranquil and Remote

4,0 en agosto 12, 2012

Remote and peaceful with panoramic views of central Oregon ranch land and the Strawberry mountains in the distance. Hosts were friendly and helpful and offered a very generous, high quality home made breakfast. Great for night viewing, hiking and experiencing the back country wilderness. Hearing coyote's howl at night was unexpected surprise. The accommodations were spotless clean and cozy. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to get out of the city but still have cell phone access.

Wonderful ambiance, exceptional service, highly recommend a visit!

What a great get-away! The Smith's took care of all our needs; beautiful country and the views are extraordinary. Recommend a stay to anyone looking to explore this part of Oregon.

Outstanding experience that we have felt ...

I can't believe only $150 stay including a spacious wonderful cabin with 2 twin bed, love sofa. rocking chair, 360 view, deck, refrigerator and kitchen. From the cabin, only 10 seconds walks, main house there with a clean jacuzzi. Breakfast is fabulous.

The breakfast was the best ever. The owners were amazing - built us a fire at night in our cozy room, decorated for one of our birthdays, and the owner took us on a hike. The view was beautiful. We would definitely go back!

Private, peaceful with the warmth of our hosts

Our room was spacious and cozy at the same time. Fabulous views in all directions and places to walk all around the 1,000 mile spread. Tons to do in the area, great hikes, sites to see. Our hosts were fun, interesting and made lovely breakfasts. (cowboy eggs, hashbrowns, bacon, juice, coffee et.al, or lemon pancakes with yummy blueberry sauce and more sausage, juice coffee etc. If a long visit is planned and you will be cooking, a stove top and microwave are your tools...no oven so plan accordingly. We will be making an annual trip...

Restore your soul at Inn at Juniper Ridge!

If you are a stargazer, hiker, birdwatcher or history buff you will love this place! Cozy, modern "cabin", delicious breakfasts each day with our gracious and knowledgable hosts, Mary & Norbert! Splendid territorial views of the Strawberry Mtns and the rolling hills of their 1,000 acre ranch from our little porch. Heard and then spotted Elk, watched the llamas! Spent 3 nights there and only scratched the surface of things to do. Check out Strawberry Lake, John Day Fossil Beds, or veg out at Mary's Pond. Drive to Prairie City and pony up to the 100+ yr old bar at the Oxbow Saloon. You will be glad you came! oh, we visited in Sept 2011 and plan to return! R&R from Gig Harbor

I couldn't have asked for more!

This is my 2nd stay at the Inn and I love it. I stayed with a coworker on business in John Day, just about 20 minutes away...and I absolutely love it up there. The views and the quiet are unparalleled; we saw some shooting stars; we woke up to cheerful llamas running around the place. It's more than a place to stay; it is an experience. Mary and Norbert poured us a glass of wine and stayed up to chat with us--what great conversations! The room is fabulous. Completely clean, in a place you'd expect a lot of dust!! I have never stayed long enough to take advantage of the mini-kitchen, where we'd cook dinners (they feed you breakfast, of course), but I intend to come back. I have recommended the place to my parents, who love that high desert country. I really like it here. -- Jen

We stayed one night on our "road trip" from Portland, OR throughout the John Day - Baker City area loop. This was our last night's stay for the trip and it could not have ended on a better note! Our hosts were warm and very helpful. The cabin is very modern and lovely with lil' deck to sit from and view the hills dotted with junipers and sky above - romantic, quiet, beautiful setting and lovely in every way. We definitely hope to be back and stay longer!

Relaxation abounds near John Day

Breathtaking views, fresh juniper scented air. If you want a place to just relax or hike to your hearts content, this is the place to stay. We hiked the Strawberry Mountains during the day and relaxed in a stunning room with 360 degree views of mountain peaks, and the rolling hills. If you want to get away from it all stay here and plan nothing but enojoying the property it will keep you busy all day with birds and wildlife to view.

Want to go back!

What a view, if you want privacy and a stunning view out every window of your B&B then the Inn at Juniper Ridge is a great choice. After a long day of driving through the beautiful John Day River valley, and an awesome hike into Strawberry Lake in the Strawberry Wilderness we arrived dead tired and just wanting a shower and some rest. We were met by our host Mary & Norbert we were shown a great room in a private building just a short distance from their home. They were very hospitable and wanted to make sure that if we needed anything they were there to help. We showered up and then had to sit outside and look at the unbelievable views out the back of our room until dark. Not a person in sight and the opportunity to listen, hear, and see a diverse array of wildlife right from the room. I wished I had had more time just to explore the property around the Inn. Overall I was very happy with our too brief of stay and hope to make it back there soon.

Tranquility

Even with the unseasonably cold weather, our stay was very enjoyable. The accommodations were bright & clean and the wood stove kept us warm. This location is visually stimulating. I had the privilage of receiving a guided tour from Norbert of the 1000+ acres of Junipers and riparian areas. Wow! Norbert and Mary host a wonderful experience. Glenn & Diane

Memories are made of this

Prepare to be pampered when you visit the Inn at Juniper Ridge. It's a romantic getaway set in some of the most picturesque country in Eastern Oregon. The ranch is so big and beautiful that once we entered its gates, we didn't leave again until our 3-day stay was over, and that came way too soon. Can't wait to return!

Inn at Juniper Ridge on my mind

We were there two years ago. The Inn at Juniper Ridge keeps staying on my mind. We are going to get back there this summer. It is a must. I smile just thinking about it. You feel your brain uncurl and your body breathe.

Juniper Ridge

Juniper Ridge gets our highest recommendation. Mary and Norbert - the owners - made us feel right at home. The house and the cabin are beautifully designed and furnished and the view of the Strawberry Mountains is simply overwhelming. (The occasional llama gets in the way when you are gazing out your bedroom window.) Breakfasts and dinners were wonderful. In two days we hiked to our hearts content and never left the property - all thanks to Norbert acting as our guide. This is that rare place to be if you want solitude, privacy and space to reflect. We're veteran bed and breakfasters and this is without a doubt one of the best places we've visited. We hope to go back later this year. Steve & Leah

My friends and I return year after year for our "luxury hiking" trip and we are never disappointed - with anything! We love the Inn, the location, the food, the ambience, and our hosts. We wouldn't consider staying anywhere else.

Juniper Magic

What a magical find The Inn at Juniper Ridge is. Situated in splendid isolation--we didn't leave the property! It was that good! Mary and Norbert are fantastic hosts--hugely welcoming--western hospitality with a contemporary twist! We are impatient to return for an extended visit next year.

We loved the Inn at Juniper Ridge!

We can't imagine being disappointed with the Inn at Juniper Ridge. We stayed in the Cowboy Suite for three nights to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. The location is breathtaking, the accomodations are superb, and the hosts were wonderful. We were very impressed with their hospitality and willingness to share information about the surrounding area as well as provide so many extras to make our stay memorable. We highly recommend this Inn and want others to visit and not miss out on this incredible blessing.

I wish I'd had more than one night to stay. The countryside is beautiful, and a great place from which to explore the John Day area. The rooms are fully-equipped and comfortable. I learned about llamas, too! Did I mention breakfast? Yum!

If you are looking for a peaceful setting, this is it.

I love it when I find lodging that is unique, such as the Inn at Juniper Ridge. My friends and I had barbeque tri tips and cold beers out on the deck, with views that seamed to go on forever. Mary and Norbert seam to be well suited for the Inn business, as they were very friendly and took care of every detail. Why would you want to spend another night in a motel room with options like this?

Highlight of our Oregon Trip

5 en julio 21, 2009

We stayed at the Inn at Juniper Ridge for two nights while traveling through Oregon with our two teenagers. On arrival Mary & Norbert welcomed us with a glass of wine on their beautiful terrasse, which offers the most amazing view. During dinners we had great conversations about life and traveling and Norbert explained and showed us a lot about local wildlife. Mary is an excellent and creative cook, she even prepared extra dishes for our vegetarian family member. The highlight for the kids was Panda, the llama greeting them both mornings at their window and eating out of their hands.

Superb accomodation in a beautiful setting

5 en julio 17, 2009

We spent three wonderful days at the Inn at Juniper Ridge. The Inn is in a beautiful location overlooking nearby valleys and mountain ranges. Mary and Norbert Smith are wonderful hosts who made us feel very welcome and made sure we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. They are very knowledgable about the local area and had lots of great ideas for hikes, fishing, and places of interest to visit. The Cowboy Suite had lots of space to relax and enjoy the lovely views of the Eastern Oregon Mountains. One morning we had a surprise visit from Panda the llama, who came right up to peek in our window. The suite has a small kitchenette with mini-fridge, so you can take your own food and beverage. Or, if you prefer, the Smiths will prepare a tasty evening meal for your group for an additional fee. The country breakfast was a superb start to each day. We had a great time during our stay at Juniper Ridge. We hope to return in the future.

A unique place to enjoy nature.

The Inn exceeded our expectations! We used it as an overnight stop on a cycling trip and it felt like we were visiting old friends. Norbert and Mary were wonderful hosts and even ran a sag wagon for us when we had a mechanical issue with a bike. The meals were outstanding and the atmosphere and view were some of the best I've experienced. It made our trip.

A wonderful find

The best part about this place was the view and the hosts. Both were out of this world. If you are looking for a relaxing evening with some great people, this place is a can't miss. Mary and Norbert went over and beyond to make our stay incredible.

A Hidden Treasure!

4,8 en mayo 25, 2009

The Smith's are fantastic host and their B&B is marvelous. If your looking for a place to get away this will be your secret hide away! Lot's a feathered and furry friends and larger one's too, so don't forget your camera and binoculars. Impeccable taste and experience of a lifetime. Thank you to the Smith's for the time of my life! Don't miss out on this secluded and very private B&B. Truely a hidden treasure! With sincerity, Marsha

Ranch style B&B with superb views

5 en mayo 25, 2009

My sister-in-law and I took a spur of the moment overnight trip to the John Day area. Luckily Norbert and Mary Smith had an ad posted in a local tourist guide, so we thought we would call. We were happy to learn they had a mid-week evening open for us. This B&B is great for those who are a bit more adventurous. The property has several small wildlife critters (birds, squirrles, chipmunks) as well as the couple's small but fascinating llama herd that walk and rest near the home and cowboy suite cabin. So many opportunities for the photographer. The mile drive up the hill is gravel and they suggest a 4x4 vehicle, however, I am sure they could arrange to bring you up from the highway. They prepped our cabin/room with only an hour's notice and provided a glass of wine upon arrival. That evening we enjoyed the stars and mountain air from their hot-tub/jacuzzi. The views of the Strawberry Mountain Wilderness were heaven, especially with some snow on them during our May stay. They provided binoculars. Norbert set up the fireplace in the cabin so we could easily light it when we wanted to warm up. The breakfast was large and nice and they offered a variety of options including special granola, eggs, hashbrowns, turkey sausage, juices, fruit, local honey, and superb coffee. They ate with us and made the morning extra special with their conversation--answering all of our questions. If you love the outdoors and are prepared to walk around on uneven surfaces you will delighted and tickled. My sister-in-law had never stayed in a B&B and now I told her she's too spoiled and won't appreciate the next ones quite as much. This would be a wonderful honeymoon spot for an outdoorsy couple. But suitable for several types of travelers. To really appreciate it I think you need to stay atleast 2 nights.
