My wife and I celebrated our honeymoon in Maine. We wanted something intimate and casual- the Captain Lord Mansion provided just that. Rick is unmatched in his customer service- he led us to all the right spots, and was very helpful during our honeymoon. Of course, I had to book the Merchant Suite; all I can say is my bride was beyond impressed! She was stunned, and it made for a wonderfully romantic week. It's close to everything in Kennebunkport, and VERY quiet. We have had to judge all of our B&B stay's by the standards of Captain Lord Mansion, and it is simply unfair to the other B&B's for us to do that due to the class of this wonderful establishment. I am from south Louisiana, so I am passionate about my food. All I can say is that EACH breakfast was FRESH, VERY filling, and PERFECT to start our day. Do yourself a favor, men, and take your bride to this wonderful place- it may very well be the best decision of your marriage- it certainly has helped our marriage for four wonderful years!
Clean and great shape. small shower (well, the place was built in 1907, so limited space to work with!). Hosts are GREAT. Breakfast was EXCELLENT. Access to Marginal Way and ocean very close. I would book again!
While the food was so-so, everything else about Nellie Littlefield was wonderful. The location was probably the best thing about it. We couldn't have been in a better spot. The ladies that work there were very helpful as well.
Very nice property, walking distance from the beach, but away from the noisy downtown beach area. The hosts gave us great recommendations for dining and provided a very nice breakfast. We made a last minute reservation, but they were still prepared to help my husband with gluten free offerings. A very nice swimming pool is a great enhancement to the property. We recommend highly!!
The value at Dockside is in the setting. The rooms are average and the breakfast is not as good as at some chain hotels. York is a charming place and the staff at Dockside were very nice, but overall the B&B did not live up to the pictures online.
Our children surprised us with a two day stay at The Trellis House and it will be hard for them to top that gift next year. We enjoyed the beautiful home and our room was perfect...Loved everything about it from the conversation, food, gardens and the décor right down to the crisp linens. We loved that the location made it so easy to enjoy the beaches early in the mornings and late into the evenings. We will be back!
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay, barring one factor. The inn, unlike others in the area, is on a beautiful and secluded point of land. Our suite was spotless, had very comfortable beds, a lovely living room and a deck with outstanding views of the inlet. We could often watch the various boats that frequented the channel before us. We loved it! The Continental Plus Breakfast was a feast for the eyes including a wide range of home baked breads, muffins and French toast, fresh fruit and yogurt plus poached eggs and sausages. All was served in the dining room of the Main House, complete with period antiques, nautical paintings and, of course, wonderful views of the water. Our one disappointing, in fact, surprising experience, was with the inn keeper herself. Her manner was less than the welcoming one we assumed would accompany the setting. She was officious, answering our inquiries but without a hint of warmth or interest. We interacted with several other staff members who were exemplary in their warmth, helpfulness and, best of all, cheerfulness. It was refreshing and reassuring to interact with each of them. We would certainly return to the inn; the many plusses outweighed the occasional discomfort of those few interactions.
My Mum and I stayed at Atlantic Birches for the first time recently. We found the inn by chance, what good luck for us! We had a lovely stay, Heidi and Ray the innkeepers are lovely and super helpful. They supplied us with lots of ideas for our first trip to Maine. Old Orchard beach is a fun town with lots to do, the Inn is very conveniently located , walking distance to everything. The Inn is quiet, clean and cosy. Great continental breakfast served daily. Would recommend to friends they stay here!
Our stay here was wonderful. The room was large and comfortable. The setting was so relaxing and the owners, Judy and Walter were a delight to meet. The location was walking distance to many restaurants and the main street. The breakfast was very good and our second morning we had an early flight in Portland. They prepared a cold breakfast and had our table set for us. I would highly recommend this inn to anyone visiting Kennebunkport.
This was a brief stay in Kennebunkport - have been there many times and stayed several other places, but found the Maine Stay to be exceptional. From Judi's greeting and her offer to recommend places to dine, etc., to the lovely breakfast on the porch, the spacious cottage (#5) - all made for a very pleasant few days in Maine.
Beautiful refurbished Victorian mansion. Cozy and welcoming. Delightful Innkeeper, who makes wonderful, tasty breakfasts each day, and surprised us with fresh baked cookies and iced tea in the afternoon. Easy walk to the beach, restaurants, and stores.
decor was interesting, pool was good size and clean, wished there was a protein with breakfast such as quality Greek yogurt or hard boiled eggs, location in town excellent, innkeepers knowledge of area and ability to match your likes with that knowledge are excellent
We stayed in the Wyeth Room at the Captain Jefferds Inn in June, 2014, and it was fabulous. The grounds were immaculate, and the common areas inside the Inn, as well as our room, were decorated beautifully. Our room was very comfortable and quiet. We really enjoyed the breakfasts - they were just delicious and very fresh tasting. The Inn is on a beautiful, quiet street that is a few short blocks to the center of town. We can't say enough about our stay and will certainly be back to visit Sarah, Eric and the wonderful staff at the Captain Jefferds Inn.
Went up to Maine to get engaged last week. I was greeted by a great staff with drinks and snacks waiting. Personally walked to my cottage which was cozy, and very clean. Breakfast in the morning was great. Room was cleaned daily. Inn keepers found out I had gotten engaged, and put cakes and balloons in the refrigerator as a surprise. Everything about the stay was great. Would go back in a heart beat.
The Dockside is a perfect place to relax and enjoy seeing the very best of the southern Maine coast without leaving your lawn chair. Birds and boats abound. The staff is friendly and competent and the guests we've meet reflect their satisfaction. We are happy to have found one of the best lodging experience of our many years of wandering along the eastern seaboard.
I recently accompanied a friend on a road trip to New England, and of the 6 inns we stayed in, CJI was my favourite. The accommodations combined gracious décor historically appropriate to an old house with all modern conveniences (best sheets on the planet!). The grounds/gardens were lovely, the location was close to everything yet quiet and serene and the afternoon tea and snack selection was phenomenal. Best of all, the hosts were totally on top of their game after 20+ years at the helm, and the staff showed courteous but unobtrusive attention to every need. I look forward to returning with my husband for a romantic getaway as soon as possible! And if we need to bring our dog for any reason, they accommodate pets- how great is that?
We were very impressed with our room and the hospitality shown to us by all that worked at the Maine Stay Inn & Cottages. Breakfast was delicious! Thank you for accommodating my various food allergies.
My husband and I loved our stay. The room was lovely, clean and comfortable. The breakfast was fantastic. The hosts friendly and very accommodating to your needs. It was a truly relaxing weekend. We will be returning to enjoy another stay.
The innkeepers were very friendly. The inn was very clean, beautifully decorated. It is located very close to the beach and shopping. It has a beautiful yard and an in-ground pool. It only serves a continental breakfast.
My wife and I spend one Saturday night at the Hartwell House just to "get away." It was a little before the normal Summer season and there were only two other couples staying, but that made our stay that much more intimate. Neither Eric or Charlene could have been any nicer and it shows they take pride in their work. How many places have you stayed at where you are escorted to your room by one of the innkeepers?? Great location and walking distance to Perkins Cove, the Marginal Way or downtown Ogunquit. We were both very pleased and will likely stay here again.
This is the second time we have stayed here and we will definitely be back again! It can be difficult to find a bed and breakfast that is also appropriate for our three year old. Patty and the rest of the staff here were very accommodating and welcoming.
Our stay at Dockside GQ happened to coincide with a wedding that took place on the property's spacious grounds outside while we ate dinner. In addition, to seeing the entire wedding party eat dinner after the ceremony, many of the wedding party stayed at the hotel and it added a little bit of a flair for staying there, although when we made a reservation there was limited availability. The pictures on the property website, including the scenic shots of the boats in the water are representative of what we experienced sitting on the Maine House wraparound porch. As I indicated, the dining at the restaurant was excellent as well as convenient after we had a driven for a number of hours and were able to eat dinner on property prior to our first night stay. The continental + breakfast that was served in the Maine House was good and the service staff was excellent in asking if anyone needed anything. Our two criticisms, one of which was basically resolved after the first night was a large number of gnats and other flying insects that came into our suite when we entered at night because the outside light was on right outside the door. On our second night we made sure that the exterior light was not left on so the amount of insects were minimal. We did have a number of gnats inside the bedroom on the ceiling when we had the lamp light on. We live in a large urban area and realize that when you are in a wooded rural area insects are part of the landscape. My only other negative was we stayed in a room that we needed to drive to the restaurant and the Maine Room - however, I have a physical disability and most guests would probably not be inconvenienced by this facet. The only reason we would not stay here if we are in the York Harbor area would be because we would want to stay at an oceanfront property that has a beach. With the exception of one, I did not see any such property with the classiness that Dockside GQ offers. It was overall a very enjoyable stay.
Went to Dockside to celebrate anniversary (4 days). Thought it would be a quiet and relaxing atmosphere. Not so much! Could the guy next door taking a leak and every conversation. Friday (third night all hell broke loose). Seems the innkeepers do not live on-site and the office in the main building (all employees) leave at 9pm. Animal House (absent the togas) started up and calls to the management went to voice-mail. 3rd call to the cops resulted in quiet being restored. Next morning my wife received an accusatory call asking if she called the cops. When I went to breakfast I heard a member of the management apologizing to the head miscreant for "last night". Bottom line: Do Not Go here on a weekend if you expect a quiet/ relaxing place! Management should either stay later if they are having an event or require a deposit from people under 35 to cover noise complaints/ damages.
