It was just two nights, but I really enjoyed staying at the Sofia. Such a refreshing antidote to the anonymity of most hotels and so much more stylish than most B&Bs, with plenty of thought given to creature comforts. Big rooms with just the right amount of things to entertain and soothe the eye, wonderful thick mattress, blankets and quilt on the bed, comfy upholstered chair and ottoman, lamps scattered around the room in the right places. Besides that it's in a great Brooklyn location with good restaurants and bars close by and very handy subway links for Manhattan. Good value for the money and I'd definitely stay again.

Three of us stayed in the Garden Suite of the Sofia Inn in September/October 2010. We loved it. The inn is close to the subway and shops/restaurants. Billy was very pleasant and extended our stay at short notice when our flight was changed. The Garden Suite is very private and quite spacious, and it was great to have a kitchen to prepare our own food in. We are happy to recommend the Sofia Inn to travellers, especially those who like to be independent.

We enjoyed our recent four-night stay at the Sofia Inn, a lovely, comfortable 1920's home that the owner has done an outstanding job of maintaining. I had a preconceived notion that a facility called a B&B would have a dining room available for at least breakfast (guess I've read too many novels), but that was the only disappointment. We stayed in one of the suites because there were three of us and we wanted the space, but we didn't really much use the kitchen, even though we were impressed with it being up-to-date and definitely sufficient. There was a great deck and what is most likely a lovely garden just off our kitchen, which we will probably enjoy when we visit there at any time other than January. I have only good things to say about the staff, Billy and Celeste; in our somewhat limited interaction with them, they were both very pleasant and helpful. Best of all for us was the location...just around the corner and a couple of blocks away from our daughter, son-in-law, and new first grandchild! Perfect for us. Great neighborhood with all the conveniences we needed. Looking forward to staying at the Sofia Inn again and again -- Gail, Huntsville, AL

I had difficulty booking a room and being cancelled on with three different B&Bs. After I spoke with Mr. Tashman, I had no problems. He promptly sent an invoice and I booked the room (and it stayed booked). His bldg/rooms are beautiful, everything in working order. The beds were comfy, the neighborhood beautiful. We stayed in the South room, which has a small kitchen. There's a market (and wine shop) at the end of the block to stock up on scooby snacks. Less than two blocks to the train, which is a straight shot to Manhattan. I ran in Prospect Park in the mornings which was gorgeous (and VERY dog friendly). If your not, be assured not one dog ran at me :) I highly recommend Sofia Inn.

Great price, great location for Botanic Gardens, Prospect Park, Brooklyn Museum, many restaurants, grocery store. Stayed in North Room and beds were very comfortable, room nice and quiet, clean. First time sharing a bathroom and didn't have any problems. Small kitchen came in handy. Antique, funky design felt like home. Billy very accommodating by letting us leave luggage before check-in and after check-out time. Bring your own maps. Highly recommended.

My boyfriend and I stayed a few nights in the parlor suite and were very happy with our room. The decor maked us feel so at home, and the room was incredibly spacious, we also had our own kitchen which we didnt end up using much, but I think in future stays we would definatel take advantage of. I definately think the parlor suite was a great value as it included the kitchen, our own bathroom and the beautiful outside deck that led into the garden, and also enough sleeping room for five. The only complaint I have is that since its a house, the walls are thin and so being quiet is a must. I feel like the ambiance here beats that of hotels, though if you want room and maid service that wouldnt be found here. Overall, great location, great price, great room, we would definately stay here again

The Inn is a great location for activities in Brooklyn and catching the subway to Manhatten especially to a Broadway play. There are enough rooms for extended families who wish to share bathrooms. Be prepared with your own maps of the area including the subway and the closest stops. Be sure to eat at Tom's Diner too as its close. Towels are budget quality. Bad experience with Evelyn's Car Service. Try Legends or Eastern.

You can't beat the location -- this is a comfortable place to stay if you are on a budget in Brooklyn. We were traveling with friends and took the two rooms on the top floor that shared a bathroom, which was ok for us. The inn keeper was really not around very much at all but that was fine. This is not a fancy place but I would stay there again because of the location and the fair price.

We discovered the Sofia In on the web as we were looking for a place in Brooklyn near my brothers house. It's an excellent location for getting in and out of Manhattan as the Subway is a block away. The rooms are spacious if a bit dated but the beds could be bigger because the rooms are so big. The owner is not intrusive but available to help if anything is required. We stayed in the North and South wings and shared a bathroom with our friends. IF youre comfortable with this fine but we'd have preferred a separate bathroom. That said if a coupd or three kids were travelling this arrangement would be perfect. Plenty of hot water and towels. There was beer in the fridge and canny left out for the guests if they fancied it. There was a kitchen to cook breakfast, which we did, and the supermarket is nearby for stock if you dont fance a diner every morning. I'd go back unreservedly but if we were on our own as a couple then my wife would want a bit more pampering in a hotel. For the money you cant beat it and it's an excellent base to explore Brookly and NEw York. Brookln is hip and trendy and very nearby is the legendary Toms Diner. Dont think about it, just go. A real old fashioned diner with excellent service. We also got the bus to the Brooklyn Bridge and walked acroos it. A must for anyone staying in Brooklyn.
