Habberstad House Bed and Breakfast

The Carriage House was wonderful. It is a very spacious, quiet place. The breakfasts were amazing and Dave & Nancy were very helpful with things to do in the area.

Would highly recommend and will go again...

Other than the awful spring weather...which the owners could do nothing about...the accomodations, delicious breakfast and genial hosts and guests were all five star!

We stayed during Christmas time and went and saw the local show at the theater. All was lovely!

My husband and I have been guests at Habberstad House many times since we first discovered it several years ago. Nancy and Dave know how to make you feel at home. If we want privacy and quiet, our room (any of the rooms) is warm and welcoming. We have stayed in every room over the years and each is clean and decorated tastefully. The beds are very comfortable and linens, blankets and bedspreads are always crisp and clean. Lunch is never needed when we stay at Habberstad House as the breakfasts served are more than generous. Nancy and Dave serve a gormet breakfast that is always very filling and they often create and aquire new and wonderful recipies. Served family style, breakfast is, in our experiences over the years, a time to enjoy wonderful food, meet new people from anywhere in the world, and to be treated more as family than guests. Thanks to Nancy and Dave, our visits to Lanesboro always feel like coming home. CT

Our stay in the carriage house was fantastic!! I read all of the reviews and it lived up to all of the hype. Dave and Nancy make you feel right at home and the breakfast was better than we could have imagined. We left Sunday morning so refreshed and we can't wait to go back. It's the best place we have ever stayed.

Dining was not at the B&B however, there were many choices in town and the Village Pub was wonderful for dinner. Hosts were very friendly and attentive along with poodle Lena. Gorgeous yard and outdoor water fountain. Wonderfully decorated and authentic antiques.

The food was excellent and the room large and beautiful. My only complaint is that the innkeeper was a bit unfriendly when we arived 20 minutes early and when she asked me to move something of mine. We had very friendly and welcoming innkeepers at our previous two inns and it took a while for me to feel comfortable with the female innkeeper here.

Our hosts Nancy and Dave were very gracious and helpful. They made reservations for us for dinner and a tour and gave us wonderful other recommendations for entertainment. Our stay was wonderful and the breakfasts were delicious. There are many things to do in Lanesboro and nearby towns including biking or walking on the trail, Amish tours, canoeing or kayaking as well as antiques. We will definitely return to Habberstad House when we visit Lanesboro again.

My husband and I would highly recommend this wonderful B & B to anyone. The Scandanavian room was a special treat! Breakfast was amazing, beautifully presented and delicious. Nancy and Dave Huisenga, owners, go above and beyond in many ways and know their buisness well.

We received our stay as a gift from our family and we decided on the Carriage House. Simply wonderful - hottub, fireplace and breakfast served. Nancy and Dave were amazing innkeepers and the breakfast was above and beyond what we expected - dessert first, then the meal....fantasitc. We cannot say enough good about our stay. We will be going back again someday..you cannot beat the hospitality - Thank you Dave and Nancy!!

We really enjoyed the privacy that the Carriage House provided and loved having breakfast come to us - we even stayed in our pajamas! We were looking for a quiet, restful get-away after a stressful month, and Habberstad House really filled the bill. We also brought our bikes and were able to bike the trail right from the house, which was really convenient. Excellent food and lots of it. Nice to have the kitchen available, too. It was a wonderful couple of days!

Our main reason for this trip was to come down from the cities to see the cave in Harmony. I did A LOT of research and found Lanesboro to be the most interesting place for us to check out and with the (bike) trail head right in town we thought it sounded great to bring the bikes along and go for a ride. Everything was beautiful. This lovely town sucks the stress right out of you! Our decision to stay at the Habberstad was very much worth every penny and I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a great place to stay! Nancy and Dave are wonderful and their home is perfect and very well kept. We stayed in the carriage house which was a private room above the garage. This was our first time staying at a bed and breakfast and we will definitely return to the Habberstad house sometime in the near future!

Room was quiet, and the bed slept very well. The bathroom was large and had a nice whirlpool tub to relax in after biking on the Root River Trail. Breakfast was home made and excellent.

Habberstad House was the BEST B&B I have ever stayed at! The owners, Dave and Nancy, were exceptionally gracious hosts and incredible cooks! The breakfasts were exceptional, the service great and the presentation impeccable! We stayed in the Amish Suite, which was airy, roomy and with a view like none other! I was a bit apprehensive about our first bed and breakfast experience. The idea of hanging out in a house with a bunch of other guests honestly didn't appeal to me. But my wife wanted to do it, so I decided to cowboy up. I did my research though and found the Habberstad house. They have a carriage house room - a room on top of the garage, separate from the main house. I booked it immediately as I thought it would be a good compromise. We still had a lot of privacy, but got to enjoy the B&B feel as well. Food was amazing. Service was great. Proprietors were awesome too. Able to make good conversation and tell us everything we wanted to know about the area (finding the best places to buy Amish furniture for example). We will definitely be back and we are recommending to friends and family.

Outstanding hosts, outstanding accommodations and outstanding breakfasts!

Our stay in the carriage house was a great retreat. It was spacious and extremely clean. The bed was cozy and the two stereo systems enriched the atmosphere. Our night at the Habberstad House was our first ever B & B stay. We made the right choice! What a lovely house and grounds. We so enjoyed our suite with sitting room and private balcony - perfect places to spend a quiet relaxing evening. We enjoyed chatting with the other guests ( repeat customers), and the host/owners. Breakfast was so delicious and served at a beautiful table. We will be back.

We thoroughly enjoyd our 4 night stay in the Amish Suite at the Habberstad. Large comfortable room, fantastic breakfasts, interesting guests. Nancy and Dave are wonderful hosts and made us feel right at home. We enjoyed an evening at the theatre in great seats reserved for us by Nancy. One of the best B & Bs we have ever stayed in!

I thought the house and the gardens were absolutely breath taking. They have really done a great job of keeping everything as it would have been in the early years the house was lived in.We stayed in the Orchid room. It was very nice with alot of light coming in the bay window but it was a a little warm at night. We tried to open the windows but they didn't stay open. The other thing was the bed was not that comfortable. It did that sinking in the middle thing which would be fine if there was only 1 person in the bed but there was 2 of us and we would sink into eachother, The breakfast the next morning was really great! The owners were nice but I did feel at one point that one of them was put off by some of our questions..

The Habberstad House put the breakfast back into Bed and Breakfast. The room was furnished with charming antiques and decor while providing comfort for one of the best night's rest I have had in a long time. Great location in town with security for my bike. Worth every penny.

We stayed in the Carriage House - it was large, beautifully decorated with all the amenities one could need (the glass of wine given to us upon arrival was the perfect way to being our stay). The breakfasts were creative and delicious. Sitting in one of the outdoor shaded areas, reading my book was exactly what the doctor ordered.

My husband and I stayed at the Habberstad House last weekend and loved it! Nancy and Dave are extremely personable and gracious hosts. The house is lovely and very clean. The breakfasts were wonderful. I can't say enough good things about it.

The Habberstad House is in amazing condition. The owners did alot of hard and talented work to restore it to a very beautiful and comfortable B&B. The owners, Dave and Nancy, were so pleasant, delightful, and enjoyable! Our room, The Scandinavian, was large, comfortable and relaxing, included was a whirlpool tub and charming balcony that we were able to enjoy. To top it off, we started each day with a outstanding-delicious breakfast that was craftily prepared and presented.

Our first time in Lanesboro was made great by this wonderful inn.

We recently stayed here. LOVED it. The whirlpool/shower combination was unique, we really liked the combination. The concierge service was great, no problem finding and making reservations for us. And what can I say about the breakfasts, they were way above what I was expecting. Both days it was a multiple course meal, everything was so good I couldn't leave anything on my plate it was so delicious. We would recommend staying here. The location is also nice. It is several blocks away from the hustle and bustle of the downtown but still within walking distance.

We had a wonderful time during our two day stay at the Habberstad House Bed and Breakfast. Nancy and Dave were the quintessential hosts and ensured that our stay was wonderful. Both breakfasts were outstanding and filled with fresh homemade ingredients. Nancy and Dave worked with my allergies and both of our diet restrictions to ensure that everything was perfect. Our room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was very spacious and well appointed. The rain shower was a nice touch. We will be going back!!

The carriage house was wonderful space although we did not feel we utilized it enough since we were there only one night and were with a big group. The only improvement I would make, would be to add a shade to the skylight opposite the bed - the morning light woke me up at 6am. The whole house and grounds were impecable. The owners are doing a top notch job of keeping up the old home and gardens. Beautiful property and very relaxing.

Nancy and Dave are the terrific hosts of this B&B in pretty Lanesboro. They took great care of us during our stay, arranging for great seats in the local playhouse, offering excellent restaurant recommendations, and serving up tasty breakfasts every morning in their beautiful restored home. Habberstad is definitely a B&B we will recommend to friends, and one we hope to return to ourselves again and again.

Our recent three-night stay at the Habberstad House offered a little taste of heaven! Our spacious room with a great bed, provate balcony to sip a morning cup of coffee and the quiet gazebo to read and rest in the late afternoon after a long bike ride ensured peace and tranquility for our time of restoratation. The best part of our stay was the extraordinary breakfasts prepared by our hosts! We have stayed at many B & B's across the nation and our meals at the Habberstad were the best. We stayed at the Habberstad for our 40th anniversary. It was spotless, beautifully decorated, and the gardens were exceptional. Our host and hostess were welcoming, funny, and very informative about the area. The breakfast was delicious, hot and promptly served. We stayed at the Habberstad in October 2010 and again on our honeymoon in October 2011. Needless to say, we love Dave and Nancy. We stayed at a different B&B this spring and the experience did not even compare. We've been spoiled and plan to celebrate our anniversary with them every year. Even in a moment of crisis when a water issue made serving breakfast impossible, Dave and Nancy made us feel wonderful and appreciated as guests, paying for our breakfast in town and buying us a bottle of wine at dinner. We'll be back for years and years to come.

Nancy and Dave are terrific hosts, providing a welcoming glass of wine with fine cheese and crackers upon arrival. They were very helpful with planning activities and sharing where the rare curiosoities and great food that Lanesboro has hiding. Breakfast was delicious and a great start to the day. It was fun to hear what others had enjoyed the night before as well. We loved it.

My husband & I visited Lanesboro & stayed at Habberstad House for a couple of days R&R after a working trip to Minneapolis. We were delighted with our choice. The beautiful, historic home had every comfort available for guests & was spotlessly clean. The breakfasts were a delight in both quality & quantity and we really enjoyed the breakfast time chats with our friendly & helpful hosts Nancy & Dave. We stayed in the Scandinavian room & were pleased with the size & comfort of the room & inparticular with the enormous Jacuzzi bath in the bedroom. The private balcony was a lovely spot from which to admire the house's immaculate gardens. I cannot rate this B&B highly enough. A wonderful house & genuinely nice owners who go the extra mile for their guests!

The house, grounds and rooms are beautiful, well designed and in top condition. Our hosts were very attentive and interesting conversationalists, even making dinner reservations for all their guests. The background information they gave was very interesting to my wife and me.

Relaxing time with great weather, biking, shopping, relaxing, and dining. The Habberstad House was great - great beds, great food, great hospitality. April is a good time to visit - fewer tourists, cool weather for biking, and lower overnight rates. We definitely would like to return someday.

The grounds and the house are beautiful. Friendly, entertaining and helpful hosts. The breakfast was outstanding both for the food and the service. We had very pleasant conversations with our fellow guests. Overall, a relaxing and comfortable stay. We definitely plan to return for another weekend trip.

2 night stay- Saturday and Sunday night in late April. Stayed in the Heather Room. We loved the spa tub- got chilled on our bike ride and really appreciated warming up in the tub. Dave and Nancy obviously love what they do, so gracious and welcoming, delicious breakfast that filled us up until dinner time! We would recommend Habberstad House to anyone in a New York minute.

The hosts were inviting and friendly and we quickly felt welcome and comfortable. The facility is spotless, and there is a real noticeable pride of ownership and interest in making the stay memorable. The food was outstanding and unique. We would stay again in a heartbeat and would give our positive recommendation to anyone on any of the rooms.

This historic home is fabulous. My mother-in-law and I came to Lanesboro for the Holiday Inn Tour, where you are able to tour 12 inns or B & B's in town over the course of two days. We were pleasantly surprised to see that we were staying at the nicest of them all! The innkeepers Dave and Nancy were so informative about local restaurants, happenings, and history. Even little Lena (the dog) was a pleasure to be around! We stayed in the Amish Suite, which has two beds (perfect for us) and was very relaxing. The location is very quiet, the grounds are beautiful, and the food amazing. I have only stayed at a 5 star hotel once in my lifetime, and I would actually prefer to return to Habberstad House. Thanks Dave and Nancy for a memorable weekend!

This was our seconds stay at Habberstad House. I've been dying to go back, and it was all I remembered and more! A glass of wine upon check-in, a wonderful dinner suggestion from Dave. We stayed in the Heather room this time and loved their whirlpool tub for two. We got great night's sleep in their comfortable bed and the next morning a delightful gourmet breakfast. Beautiful gardens and a peaceful retreat. Do not stay anywhere else in Lanesboro. This is the best!

Nice quiet home in quiet little town. Scandinavian room was awesome and we felt at home due to the excellent service we received.

Upon our arrival, we were offered a complimerntary beverage - soda, beer or wine. We shared ours with another guest couple and had a good interchange. Nancy and Dave are very friendly and easy to get to know. Dave made us a delicious breakfast and Nancy enjoyed telling us of the history of Habberstad House. The brightest spot, however ws the conversation we had over breakfast. Everyone got along so well and shared to completely that we were disappointed to have the meal come to an end.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Habberstad House. Nancy and Dave were great hosts, wonderful breakfast cooks and are thoroughly knowledgeable about the Lanesboro area. Lanesboro is a great town to visit, ride bikes in, take in the professional theatre...it's hard to go wrong, and you will be glad you chose the Habberstad House.

My husband and I spent this past fall weekend at The Habberstad House in Lanesboro for a much needed get away. Dave and Nancy were welcoming and made us feel at home with a nice wine and cheese reception on Friday evening to get to know the other guests. Our main purpose for the trip was to relax and we were very pleased with the Heather room that we stayed in. The large Jacuzzi with rain shower was perfect, the house was quiet, and the bed comfortable. The grounds of The Habberstad were very beautiful and peaceful with a nice arbor swing and fountain. Breakfast was so good and filling that we didn’t need lunch both of the days that we stayed there. Many of the guests there were repeat visitors that said that The Habberstad House was their favorite B&B. After our weekend, I can see why.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our hosts Nancy and Dave could not have been more welcoming We stayed in the Scandinavian Room, which was spacious with a hot tub and outdoor porch. The food was delicious and the fellow guests were engaging. The number of repeat guests is a tribute to the quality of the hospitality.

Our stay was a wonderful experience. As mentioned in previous reviews, Nancy and Dave are great hosts, warm, welcoming and ready to offer suggestions but never intrusive. We enjoyed hearing the history of the house and the town over a great breakfast, browsing the photo books in the parlor and strolling through the lovely grounds. The Amish room is spacious, comfortable and quiet, just what we needed after the day’s long bike ride. The house is beautiful, clean and well organized. My favorites: the dining room and the garden fountain. We will be back!

Our second stay at the Habberstad House. We had time to read underneath the grapevine ensemble, while a fountain bubbled in the background. Once we set out to bike, we didn't need to stop for lunch after a fulfilling, fresh, organic breakfast full of nutrition. My favorites at the Habberstad House, are the Friday night appetizers, the unique rooms, the well groomed yard, the easily assesible place to house our bikes the friendly atomosphere, hosts who are willing to assure our adventures and dinner reservations are complete to our satisfaction. We will return. We have such a great time at Habberstad.

Our recent stay at Habberstad House Bed and Breakfast was just fantastic! We stayed in the carriage house and just loved it. It was just perfect for us and very spacious with everything we needed for our stay. In addition, they are truly gourmet cooks and we really enjoyed their very flavorful and ample breakfasts each morning. The gardens are really lovely which surround the beautifully restored Victorian home. Our stay there was very relaxing and we were within easy biking distance of the the Root River Bike Trails. We would definitely stay there again and would highly recommend it to everyone else. Our two night stay was booked a year in advance on recommendation from a couple returning for their fourth time. My husband is not fond of B&B's, but this was an awesome experience which he wants to repeat next fall. Nancy & Dave are wonderful hosts, they both have a great sense of humor and quick wit. If you wish, you can pet and enjoy their poodle, Lena. The breakfasts are outstanding and a good reason to walk or bike the day away. There is no reason not to stay at Habberstad House!!!!

We have stayed at the Habberstad B & B three times now with two different groups of people. It is the best B & B I have ever stayed at and we will stay there again in the future. The owners are a fantastic couple that make the stay especially nice. It is a very welcoming place and they make you feel very comfortable in their home. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

I surprised my wife with a surprise honeymoon to Lanesboro. The Habberstad House Bed & Breakfast was one of our destinations, and it was a phenominal experience. The Carriage House was very clean, with many nice ammenities for our use during our stay. The two course breakfast was a gourmet breakfast fit for a King & Queen. This is definetely on our return list for the future to come.

This was our second stay at Habberstad and we definitely intend to return! Dave and Nancy are wonderful hosts and, I might add, excellent chefs!! Breakfasts are out of this world! My wife and I chose the Habberstad House for our 33rd anniversary getaway. Our two day stay was exceptional. The congeniality of our hosts, Dave and Nancy, along with the ambiance of the restored house combined to to help make our stay memorable. Breakfasts are superb!

We have stayed at the Habberstad House frequently over the past 10 years. It is simply one of the best experiences we have had and we look forward to returning to Lanesboro for a week of bicycling each year. The highlight is staying with Dave and Nancy at the their wonderful B & B, becoming spoiled because of the fabulous breakfast they serve each morning and being recipients of their attention to even the smallest detail. We give the Habberstad House our highest recommendation.

Our August 2011 visit was thoroughly delightful. I am by nature wary of B & B experiences, although I've stayed in several wonderful B & B's in the Pacific Northwest and Europe. Our experience at Habberstad was everything we could have asked for...clean and well maintained accommodations, friendly owners, superb breakfasts, beautiful and peaceful grounds, and a wonderful location close to the bike trails and downtown Lanesboro, without being in the center of traffic and activity. Our 3 night stay left us refreshed and fully appreciative of the time we spent in southeastern Minnesota.

We've stayed at the Habberstad House during numbers visits to Lanesboro and wouldn't think of staying anywhere else. The grounds of the B&B are beautiful. The room we stayed in was spotless, well decorated and even better than we remember. Dave and Nancy are a joy and the breakfasts are amazing. We are looking forward to our next visit to Lanesboro and a relaxing stay at the Habberstad House.

Dave and Nancy have the best place in Lanesboro! I can't recommend this B&B enough. We definitely plan to return. We just loved everything about the place. I spent lots of time taking photographs of the unbelievably lovely grounds.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our 1st stay at the Habberstad House. We stayed in the Heather Room, and highly recommend it. The whirlpool and the rain shower were so pleasant. The breakfast was absolutely amazing. Dave and Nancy do such a good job. Thanks!

We were warmly welcomed by Dave and Nancy at the Habberstad House. The breakfast was delicious, the coffee abundant, and the conversation stimulating. They were also extremely accommodating for my glutenfree needs. Our room was delightful and classic, and really showed off the glorious property. Also lovely were the gardens and patios around the house, where we spent a relaxing evening sipping on wine. And joy of joys: no mosquitoes! Many thanks to our gracious hosts for the stay in Lanesboro. (And for the tip about the theatre production - so funny!)

We stayed in the Heather room. It was very comfortable and overlooks the beautiful fountain in one of the gardens. It has a large bathroom with a rain shower and whirlpool bath. Dave and Nancy were gracious hosts. They are very friendly and wonderful cooks. We were on the MS TRAM bike ride and they were very helpful and accommodating with our special needs for the bike tour. Thank you Dave and Nancy!

My husband and I stayed in the carriage house and really enjoyed having the place to ourselves. We were able to cook a meal together and dine in, were recommended walking routes, and relax together in front of the TV and in the wonderful jacuzzi tub. We would love to go again.

ROOMS: The entire house and grounds are impressive and our room was quite comfortable. SERVICE: The host served complimentary beer and wine in the evenings, which we were not expecting. However, the hostess, who served breakfast, never stopped talking to allow us to enjoy our meal peacefully. The meal was family style at 8:30 AM, with all guests present at the table for one sitting. Most appreciated the hostess’ input, I’m sure. We would have preferred an earlier sitting to make more of our day, and a more private breakfast experience. VALUE: Putting aside personal grievances about breakfast service and breakfast itself, the price for a night's stay met my expectations for a well maintained, high end hotel experience in this part of the world. CLEANLINESS: Seemed spotless. DINING: I'm sorry to say that our dining experience was not satisfactory with regard to food, as well as service. We were served a breakfast consisting of a slice of cake (for breakfast!), nectarine (yay fruit!) in cream, a piece of quiche that was about 1/5th of a 9 inch pie plate and had a hash-brown potato crust and 4 kinds of cheese, two pieces of toast, and 2 slabs of some sort of ham. Although great care was taken, I'm sure, in the preparation of these items, the caloric tally of this spread would rival a Denny's Grand Slam breakfast. The food came in two courses: course 1 included the cake and peaches and course 2 included the quiche, ham, and toast. These pairings were not well considered. The cake spoiled the delicate sweetness of the nectarine. The second course was excessively salty. The quiche was overloaded with salt. Why bother with 4 cheeses if the only flavor is salt. The toast was drenched in butter (more salt), and needless to say, the meat was salty. There are many other seasonings besides salt, but if any were used in this meal, they were overpowered. Surely some guests loved this food, but in our view it was poorly conceived from both a nutritional and gastronomic perspective.

We had a fabulous stay at the Habberstad House in Lanesboro last weekend! We stayed in the Scandinavian room, that was quite large, beautifully decorated and very comfortable. There were appetizers (fruit, cheese, crackers and chocolates) and wine and beer offered on check-in for the weekend. It was a nice time to meet the hosts and other couples that were staying there. The breakfasts were very tasty, and extremely filling! I especially enjoyed the fresh fruit with homemade ice cream that started out the first breakfast! We enjoyed biking on the many trails in the area, then to cool off, rented tubes at the Little General store and floated down the root river. There are several restaurants in the area to choose from, and Dave & Nancy (the B&B owners) have menus from several places to help you decide where to go. There are also two theatres in town (right next to each other) and we saw an entertaining play that Nancy was in! We had a great time, and would love to go back!

Habberstad house is wonderful. Nancy and Dave are exceptional cooks. They made dinner reservations and advised us on available events. Both my husband and I loved our stay.

We have been privileged to stay at the Habberstad House 5 times since 2006. A a Travel Consultant, this is my first recommendation in Lanesboro. Nancy and Dave are great hosts. The modern accommodations are immaculate, and the breakfasts delicious. With a nice selection of rooms offering a variety of amenities this is the perfect choice for a romantic getaway or a small group gathering.

What a delightful stay we had in the Scandinavian Room at Habberstad House! From the wine upon arrival, to the personal sized pannekoeken for breakfast, we were pampered. The room was so carefully furnished and felt as if we were truly on a getaway.

The carriage house at the Habberstad House was a perfect retreat for us. We biked in the Lanesboro area and would come in our own private entrance, pour some wine, enjoy the hot tub, and then go to dinner. The breakfast prepared by Dave and Nancy was delivered to us and was outstanding. We thoroughly enjoyed their gracious hospitality and beautiful grounds. I would highly recommend making this your B & B destination if in the area. Very peaceful, tons of room, great breakfasts, beautiful gardens and outdoor seating areas, great for a couple or big enough for a small family or another couple. Can't wait to go back!

We have been going to Lanesboro and the Haberstad House for quite a few years now. The property and gardens are impeccable. Dave and Nancy the proprietors are gracious and fun hosts. The welcoming wine and appetizers and the gourmet breakfast are such a treat. We love staying in the Carriage House with it's views, privacy and amenities. It always on the top of our list for weekend getaways.

This B&B was an excellent home base for our weekend getaway to the Root River Trail. Nancy and Dave were very nice and accommodating--they even went out of their way to use meatless sausage for breakfast when they learned we did not eat meat. The inn is also located within walking or biking distance to downtown Lanesboro and the Root River Trail (we never got into our car once!). I would definitely recommend this B&B for its hospitality, breakfasts, classic beauty, and proximity to Lanesboro and great biking excursions.

We were looking for two nights of total rest and relaxation, and got that and more in the Carriage House at the Habberstad House. The accommodations were spacious and wonderful, the breakfasts outstanding, and Lanesboro and surrounding communities are charming! We did a lot of biking, so the large whirlpool bath was a definite plus! We'll be back--and HIGHLY recommend it!!

What a delightful stay we had in the Carriage House! The Carriage House is next to the main house. You stay on the second level and so you look out over impeccably kept and beautifully landscaped grounds. In the middle stands a fountain, that during the day doubles delightfully as a bird-bath. The room of the Carriage House is spacious and airy, with lots of windows. Four sky-lights bathe the room with lots of golden morning sun. We loved the jacuzzi. Bath-salts are provided. We had fun putting on the spa robes provided, just so we could take them off as we slipped into the tub. Put on a relaxing CD and see if your blood pressure doesn't drop by at least 20 points. One thing we noted was how clean both the Carriage House and the main house were. No dust, no cobwebs. Inside the main house and the Carraige House, we loved the soft, muted color scheme and Asian motif of the appointments. You're just half a block or so from the edge of town in a quiet neighborhood. That makes for a restful night's sleep on a comfortable King bed. Because we stayed in the Carriage House, we got to enjoy a delightful, private breakfast on the patio. The cooking is superb. The food simply could not have been any more delicious. If the patio for whatever reason isn't to your liking, you can have your breakfast served to you in the Carriage House. We enjoyed grinding our own coffee in the morning, using the whole coffee beans stored in the frig. And, it was good tasting coffee. We never got around to it, but if you like, you can also take out some bottled water or a soda pop, or even a beer stored and kept cold in the frig for a very nominal cost that we thought was most reasonable. The Habberstad house has now become one of our new favorite places to get away to when we want to recover ourselves and our sanity in a place where we felt immersed in serenity and beauty. Thank you, Dave and Nancy! We will be back again, and again.

We have stayed in many B&Bs but this was our favorite. The home is beautiful but not fussy. The hosts are wonderful...they make your stay welcoming and comfortable. We had a lovely 3 day, 2 night stay at the Habberstad House. We were looking for a quiet cozy place to spend a couple days to relax from the hub-bub of summer. This was the perfect place. The weather wasn't terrific, but we were able to bike one day and relax on the wonderful balcony off the Scandinavian room. This room was perfect for us. Nancy and Dave were wonderful hosts and gave us whatever help and attention we wanted. They seemed to know when to leave us alone and when to step in. We had a great discussion at breakfast with the other guests which was fun. Thanks again for a great time.

My husband and I recently spent our anniversary weekend at Habberstad House. Everything was perfect and far exceeded our expectations in every way! We stayed in The Carriage House and felt truly pampered when Nancy and Dave brought us our delicious breakfast each morning. It was a wonderful experience! We'll definitely be back!

We have made several trips to Lanesboro and have stayed at the Habberstad House every time except once. When you find perfection, why change? If you are looking for beautiful rooms, excellent food and warm and friendly hosts the Habberstad House is the place to go!

The Habberstad House was a wonderful place to stay. The grounds are gorgeous and provide many lovely places to rest and relax, as does the main house. The host and hostess are superb. They are most helpful, happy, knowledgeable and both have wonderful senses of humor. The breakfasts they provide are among the best ever! Their culinary skills are excellent. All the breakfasts we had consisted of fresh fruit, an egg dish, a homemade breakfast cake, sausage/bacon, potatoes/waffles, juices and coffee. We highly recommend the Habberstad House.

Couldn't have had a better experience. We are not really bed and breakfast regulars, usually staying in nice hotels, but the Habberstad House may have changed our minds forever. We stayed in the Amish room which was perfect because there was plenty of room for me to work when I had. The whole house and all of the rooms (we all decided at breakfast one morning to see each other's rooms) were so nicely decorated - very good taste, not overdone, just elegant. The breakfasts were beyond any expectation I could have had, like eating in a fancy restaurant every morning - dishes that I would never have thought of and done to perfection. And of course, Dave and Nancy were full of ideas of where to go and knowledge of the area and the history - they were the perfect hosts. You won't be dissapointed at the Habberstad House.

We stayed in the "Heather" room (w/ fantastic whirlpool bath and shower) and enjoyed every minute of our time in Lanesboro. It has been a long time since I had better breakfasts, the yard and landscaping are idyllic, and the proprietors are wonderful. We felt we couldn't have picked a better place to stay.

The Habberstad House Bed and Breakfast was more than I had expected. The flower gardens were beautiful and well cared for and the house was gorgeous, clean and tastefully decorated. We had requested a vegan breakfast and the lady of house created a wonderful breakfast - I would love to see what she would make for lunch! The host and hostess were most helpful in booking dinner and the theater reservations for us. It was a perfect weekend of getting away from the city and leaving all stress behind. We will be back again!

We loved our stay at the Habberstad House. Dave & Nancy were super helpful & kind, and their home is just gorgeous. Being a bit of a foodie, my expectations for breakfast weren't too high just because I didn't want to get let down, but boy was I pleasantly surprised! Breakfast was absolutely delicious both mornings & we were barely able to clear our plates. I would highly recommend staying at this b&b.

The stay was fine and amenities was as expected. But the price was too high for this stay despite the fact that its not a highly visited and crowded place. The breakfast was really awesome, infact thats the only positive thing there. I had to pay nearly $150 for one night in the orchid room and its definitely not worth that much since its neither a big city nor a scenic location. My overall feeling is a huge dissatisfaction! I won't even recommend Lanesboro as a place to stay.

Great place to stay - especially liked staying in the Carriage House - lots of peace and quiet. Dave and Nancy were gracious hosts and very nice and friendly but knew when to leave you alone. We love staying at the Habberstad House. It's a beautiful house with wonderful landscaping. The breakfasts are so delicious. We love relaxing in the jacuzzi or out on the deck. But what tops it all are the hosts, Dave and Nancy. They take care of us, helping with reservations or tickets, directions or maps, any other plans or needs. They are fabulous! Can't wait to go back.

This was our second visit to the Habberstad House and we stayed in the Carriage House. We love that it is designed like a studio with an open floor plan and includes a kitchen area. My boyfriend loves that they keep the fridge stocked with beverages! Our hosts made the most delicious gluten- free breakfast, which was a real treat for me since I'm gluten intolerant. Lanesboro is a great place to go to relax and enjoy cute shops and good food. As it is only 2 hours from the cities, we will definitely be going back again soon!

Second time we've stayed at the Habberstad. Our plan was to go biking, but Mother Nature changed that. Even in the rain we had fun in town. Then we hung out at the house. Plenty to do there, games, cards, and visiting. Breakfast was great both mornings. We stayed in a different room each night. The Amish room was big and roomy. The rose was very nice and plenty of room. It was a little strange to take a shower and look out of the shower stall. Ready to go back again.

Although we came because of a retirement gift certificate, we will return on our own. Hosts were very gracious and friendly, rooms were large and quiet - and the grounds and house are beautiful. Very relaxing time - made us forget the cares of the world.

We had never stayed in Lanesboro before, but knew that we wanted it to be one of the stops on our "bed and breakfast tour" vacation. The breakfast was amazing, and the house beautifully restored, but it was the hospitality that really made our stay. We felt as though we were old friends being welcomed for a visit rather than guests. Out of the four B&B's we stayed at, Habberstad House was our favorite. We will definitely return!

We stayed in the Carriage House, which is separate from the main house, and it was everything I hoped it would be, plus some. The pictures on the web page actually don't do the room justice as it is larger than it appears there. We enjoyed the hot tub everyday along with the warmth of the fire place, both of which are great during the cold weather. There was absolute privacy except for in the morning when our breakfasts were hand delivered and placed on the table for us. The food was awesome and the service great. Nancy and Dave are very friendly and willing to do whatever they can to make sure your stay is the best it can be. When we were leaving they asked if there was anything they could have done different or better to make our stay more enjoyable, honestly I did not have one thing to say. It was our perfect weekend, just too short! Thanks Nancy and Dave, it was truly outstanding!!

The Habberstad B&B was a wonderful surprise! Having taken a spontaneous trip to Lanesboro, we lucked out to find this B&B. The inn is tastefully decorated and absolutely clean and comfortable. We were welcomed with a glass of wine! Breakfast was a feast of fresh, healthy food. Our hosts were great sources of information on the area. We'd stay at Habberstad again in a heartbeat!

This is a great B&B! I highly recommend it to anyone. We have stayed at many B&B's. Our standards are a bit high. So we really look at their websites and reviews thoroughly before we book. Dave and Nancy are really focused on you having a wonderful Lanesboro experience, not just on your experience at their inn. Their recommendations for activities and dining were spot on. They also seem to be well liked members of the community. Folks around town got excited when we mentioned where we were staying. We stayed in the Scandinavian Room. It felt very Scandinavian with its furnishings and two-tone stained pine board paneling. The room also feels very private as it is down the end of the hallway by itself. Everything about the room was wonderful.

To celebrate our 41st anniversary we chose to stay at the Habberstad House in Lanesboro. What a fortunate choice! A fantastic breakfast was delivered to our table in the carriage house. Nancy and Dave Huisenga have made the Habberstad House into a beautiful, restful, and enjoyable haven. Breakfasts were amazing, though the quantity was somewhat overwhelming for those with lighter appetites. Locally sourced and home-baked/cooked food was delicious and beautifully presented. Both owners are engaging and informative leading to interesting discussions.

We were greeted at the door with a friendly welcome and then were given a tour of the home. Nancy was very helpful informing us of events going on in the town and offering to make reservations at the local theatre. We enjoyed using the sitting rooms to read the local papers and looking at the photos about the history of the house. Dave answered any questions we had about the house. We stayed in the Scandinavian Suite and were very pleased. If you want privacy, this is the room for you. This room was added but the other rooms are the original of the house. When we got settled in, Dave offered us a beverage of choice. I would suggest maybe some food be offered with the drink like crackers and cheese or cookies. Now to my favorite part. The breakfast was to die for. It was delicious and let me say we were full when we were done. The presentation was also very nice. Dave and Nancy were very friendly and we always felt welcome. We would positively go back again.

Lake home? Why? Habberstad House in Lanesboro provides great accommodations (no need to open when we arrive or close when we leave): wine upon arrival, reservations for meals and theatre, exquisite suites, and gracious hosts (Dave & Nancy) who engage and inspire conversation. We are repeat visitors (at least twice/year - no matter the season ). Habberstad House is our Minnesota Vacation Home. Habberstad House is nestled in the thriving community of Lanesboro where the bike paths, canoeing, trout streams, fine dining and live theatre are a delight for every season.

We stayed 3 nights in the lovely Amish Room at the Habberstad House Bed Breakfast. We wished we could have stayed a month. The entire room was sufficiently supplied with comfortable beds, plenty of books, games, and movies. This room was decorated with style and class- right down to the custom soaps and shampoo. The Innkeepers fussed over each and every guest offering special treats and drinks, interesting conversation, suggestions for dinner and pampering with exquisite attention to detail, sugar cubes! The home and gardens were in mint condition with several outdoor quiet places to sit, read, play chess or enjoy the water fountain. A private indoor storage area was provided to store bikes with ample room to make adjustments for a long ride. The Nancy and Dave together are masters in the kitchen and offer a fresh, healthy, organic breakfast. (We didn't need lunch) Our stay was perfect, we had privacy but, also had consistant attention to our needs. We highly recommend the Habberstad House.

We have stayed three consecutive years and hope to come back for a long, long time. The primary purpose for staying in Lanesboro is to bike the magnificient Root River Valley trails. But we have experience so much more - fine dining, superb theatre, great shopping and the spectacular landscape. I am from the Red River Valley of North Dakota and my partner lives in the lakes country of Minnesota so the limestone bluffs are like another world. The very best thing about Habberstad House (except for Dave & Nancy) has to be the breakfasts. The menus are well thought out and distinctive. As much as possible they use local, organic food. Every morning is a new, delicious adventure and gives us a jump start on our long days of biking. The house and gardens are impeccibly cared for. We, without reservation, give the highest recommendation to the Habberstad House.

One of the warmest and welcoming places I have ever experienced in an absolutely beautiful setting. It mystically allows you to escape the troubles of your world. Dave and Nancy are great host, the rooms are beautiful and the breakfast is scrumptious. It is all beyond "marvelous." I can't wait to return!

We make our annual trip to Lanesboro in the Fall, and each year wonder if we should try a new place, but keep returning to the Habberstad House. The Habberstand House B&B is an outstanding place to stay. Dave and Nancy, the proprietors, make you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. They great you with the beverage of your choice. The home is lovely and spotless - I don't know how they do it. It has been maintained to the highest level including the historic furnishings and woodwork. You are given a key to your room and to the front door so you can come and go as you please. There is no shortage of hot water or towels and the beds are extremely comfortable. Now, that said, you must stay here just for the breakfast. It is a wonderful, wonderful meal that starts with dessert. How can you possibly beat that. We will definitely be going back here again and I live in TX!

I was one of three couples that traveled to Lanesboro for a weekend biking vacation. My expectations of staying in a small town in rural Minnesota were a bit hesitant after having stayed in B&Bs in Cape May, NJ and Rehoboth Beach, DE where "painted ladies" are abundant and renowned. This was an amazing experience! Innkeepers Dave and Nancy are obviously people who love their occupation and take extraordinary pride in hospitality and service as well as the accommodations and ambiance. The house is immaculately maintained, the gardens are picturesque and the rooms are neat, tidy, and extremely comfortable. I made the reservation for the Amish Suite in March for a stay we planned in August and as the date approached I was concerned - the summer of 2010 has been one of the hottest on record and staying in an attic room had visons of sweltering heat and sweaty nights of sleep. But I assure you it was not! A large ceiling fan, air conditioning that retro-fitted to the ventilation system and a large fan ensured that my nights were spent covered and sleeping in comfort! My friends that traveled with me stayed in the Carriage House and the Orchid Room and we spent Saturday night dining and playing cards in the spacious Carriage House. We've decided will have to do a coin toss for who gets the Carriage House on our next stay but I honestly think there isn't a room at Habberstad that isn't comfortable or inviting in its own way. Breakfast is gourmet and will absolutely delight your tastebuds and the level of knowledge Dave and Nancy have of the area's interests, history and dining and attractions is a bonus that you'll want to utilize during your stay. We are already planning our return and can't wait to stay at Habberstad again!

Dave and Nancy were fabulous hosts and we felt like we had known them forever. The breakfasts that we had were top rate and most of all delicious. We are looking forward to spending another weekend there next summer.

The facilities and the hosts were wonderful. The hosts were accomodating to our needs and let us be as private or social as we wanted to be. The yard areas and landscaping are beautiful with multiple areas to sit, relax, read or just be. We enjoyed playing cards at a quiet table in the backyard and our breakfast in the courtyard. The food was unique and delicious. We felt well taken care of and that our hosts were sincerely interested in our comfort. Our room had everything we needed and was well furnished and maintained. We plan to stay at the Habberstad House again.

What a great place to begin and end our biking week with friends. Everyone met at the Habberstad House to check in and begin our week. We found the rooms so clean and comfortable, it was hard to get up and prepare for our bike ride. Once we did crawl out of bed, we were introduced to the best breakfast we have ever had the joy to eat! Ironically, now that we are home, I see I have as many pictures of our rooms and our breakfast experience that I do of the biking trails. Quite a nice tribute to the hospitality of Dave and Nancy. We stayed for a week and it was wonderful, can't wait to return. Terri S

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at the Habberstad House and were very pleased with the lovely accomodations and even more impressed with the hospitality of the owners Dave and Nancy. We stayed in the Scandinavian Room with a private jacuzzi tub, our own private deck and beautiful furnishings. The breakfast was wonderful. And the special touches throughout our visit made us feel welcome. We enjoyed the community of Lanesboro with its historical main street, shops and restaurants, and particularly the production at the Commonwealth Theatre. We hightly recommend the Habberstad House.
