National Geographic has recommended that tourists explore the neighborhoods of New Orleans. Most tourists do not have an opportunity because so few are available to tourists. Audubon Park House is in the Uptown neighborhood of New Orleans where Victorian homes are cherished. This B&B offers the tourist a very unique place to stay in a very unique part of the city. Just recently National Geographic filmed the lagoon located minutes away which is a sanctuary filled with the sounds of wild birds, wild ducks, ibises, egrets, and herons. A streetcar runs at the head of the park which enables tourists to visit the historical French Quarter. At the foot of the park is the Audubon Zoo and at it's back runs the mighty Mississippi River. A swamp exhibit in the zoo captures the true nature of New Orleans before it was established as an urban center. One can experience the history of the city through the eyes of owner Barbara Lefevre Martin, who was born down River on land which was once part of a plantation where the British battled for the control of Louisiana in 1812. She will be happy to share her history with her guests.

Audubon Park House is our home away from home. Barbara is not just your owner/proprietor, she is your friend. Located in a beautiful, quiet, residential Uptown neighborhood just a short walk from the St. Charles Avenue streetcar, Audubon Park, Tulane, and Loyola, Barbara and Auduon Park House have hosted my wife and me 15 times for six days or longer between April, 2005 and December 2012. This B&B is comfortable, quiet, and always filled with interesting quests with whom you can kibbutz during breakfast around the dining room table. (No topic is out of bounds.) In short, Audubon Park House and Barbara (and adorable pet pomeranian "Chico") exude personality and serve as wonderful complements to the music, food, sports, people, excitement, and soul of the city of New Orleans.

I felt welcome and at home the moment I stepped inside this bed and breakfast. The close proximity to the street cars, park and university made my visit so much more enjoyable and possible. There really was no need to call a cab to get to Magazine street or the French Quarter because a short walk through the lovely neighborhood lead me right to the street cars while also letting me take in the view. The relaxed environment allowed me to come and go with ease which was great because the mixture of visiting friends and sight seeing came with unpredictability. The security is very good (each room gets its own key) and the private bathrooms are nicely kept. The price of my stay was way too good to pass up and I will definitely come back again!

I stayed here for 5 days in March 2012 and found it delightful. Audubon Park, 2 blocks away, is a wonderful place to go for a walk or run. Massive live oaks provide shade. The host is very relaxed and makes you feel at home immediately. The house is full of furniture but I found the room and the attached bath very satisfactory. The neighborhood is very quiet but it's easy to catch a streetcar to downtown or elsewhere. It's in an area of town where there are almost no other guest houses and the rates are reasonable. I'm sure I'll go there on my next trip to the city.

I stayed there with two friends for an extended weekend. The house is wonderful - lots of furniture that make it seem a bit messy but in a very charming way. The host couldn't be more accomodating. She puts everyone at ease right away. She has a little dog who's very cute and quiet. Breakfast is great too - abundant and diversified food, and it is served in a beautiful room. The surroundings are also very nice - beautiful houses all around. And it's only a few blocks away from the streetcar, that goes right to the French quarters. My friends and I loved our stay there.
