Everything about our stay was just about perfect. The place was clean, nicely decorated, spacious, and comfortable, and the neighborhood is great -- lots of interesting places within walking distance, including a coffee bar that opens at 6 am (expensive but good). I gave "dining" four stars, although, of course, there is no food -- this is not a B&B. But it does have a well-equipped, shared kitchen. Having private parking was another bonus. The owner was extremely nice -- helpful but unintrusive. We'll definitely want to stay there again.
Ronit & Pini were fabulous hosts!! We enjoyed our quiet time in our room, in the pool, and with candlelight dinner outside. The room was comfortable and spacious. They made sure we had what ever we needed, from coffee, soda, water, snacks, fruit, GPS, and even a washer & dryer in our room (you'd never know it was there!). The food was out of this world (Ronit is an amazing chef) and we left full and satisfied. We look forward to going back for some rest and relaxation in the future!! Steven & Kathi
The rooms, other people were ideal for our stay. Quiet, respectable & outgoing. On top of that the snacks, drinks & more importantly breakfast were phenomenally good. If in the Pasadena area & wish to have a 1-of-a-kind experience in a beautiful part of this gem, The Bissell House is where to go.
Our family of two grown-ups and two teenagers stayed four nights at this very nice B&B. Marsha and her daughter were very friendly and helps us with ideas of what to see, where to go and how to drive there. Marsha prepared a delicious breakfast that was waiting for us whichever time we chose to get up in the morning. Most importantly, she provided a great variation of foods in spite our family’s many food allergies. We can definitely recommend Goldfingers’s Getaway!
Stayed here in May 2014, as part of a long weekend to attend a friend's wedding in Malibu. Lovely place; lots of privacy and quiet. Room was very comfortable; common areas were delightful, breakfast was great. Bring your hiking shoes - the canyon and state park are right next to you. Steep paths, but worth the walk. Parking is tricky (because of the hills) but available. Quick drive to LA, Santa Monica, Malibu - but nice and quiet. We had a great time and would recommend it.
We loved this place. It's so nice and romantic. We had the cozy queen. Very small room but it was very comfy. Had its own private entrance. The hor d'oeuvres were better than the breakfast IMO. The ambiance was amazing and beautiful. The hostess was very nice and provided all the info we needed. The beach is right down the street. You just have to walk thru a tunnel to get there. I can't wait to stay here again. The price was very reasonable. We plan in getting a bigger room next time. To enjoy it a little more.
The addition of new, energetic, personable and talented staff added immeasurably to our third stay. Since a complete update of such an enormous old house would cost a fortune, I think the management should invest in new fluffy towels. The breakfasts were huge and delicious, the pool was just the right temperature and we will definitely visit again.
Michael was very nice in completing my reservation and making sure I knew where to come. Instructions were clear and easy to follow, which was good as they were complicated. The driveway into the back parking area has a narrow pinch point. I wouldn't try it with a large car. It was nice to have free parking. I was surprised that there was no note to welcome me. There was no hospitality at all. I never saw anyone who ran the place except the cook. My room was large but the whole house felt stuffy. Open windows were not an option due to the noise from the busy street. All the windows had bars on them. Decorative bars- but still bars. The view out the window looked onto a busy street and the view was awful. My bathroom was spacious but the shower was small and there was no place to set my shampoo and soap. There was not even a water glass in the room! The place felt deserted. I looked for the garden I had seen mentioned in a past review and could not find one. I sat at a tiny patio that was so little used that I had to sweep leaf litter off the table and chair. Breakfast in the dining room was nice. There was a good choice of items and I saw other guests eating very appetizing omelets. The are is not one where you can walk comfortably at night. I would way that if you know you will be going places in the immediate area it is a good choice-but I really can't recommend it otherwise, unfortunately. I can find better options for the price.
The Bissell House was a lovely home back in the day; however, it needs some renovation to bring it up to standards. Paint peeling on windows, old bathtub with stains, etc. The interior was "tired" looking. We expected more from a B&B in South Pasadena in this price range
We were very pleased with our stay. The negative aspect is the battle for parking, as there is no designated parking for guests. We had to park a couple of blocks away on two nights of our stay, but this is the only major drawback of our visit. The garden cottage is the place to be at this B&B! A room set back from the main house, with a nice patio. The bed is very comfortable and the room has a window A/C unit, along with a skylight that can be open or covered. The breakfast is nice, consisting of bagels, yogurts, milk, juice, coffee, and the like. Very simple, but adequate to start the day off. Gail made sure items were replenished for each day, and also made sure any other reasonable requests were met by her housekeeping staff each afternoon. The location is pretty close to many of the Hollywood attractions, as well as to Dodger Stadium, and the freeways. This made it easy to navigate the area to see and visit places we wanted to patronize. Overall, a really nice value, and a great little surprise lodging place!! We enjoyed ourselves immensely. Su Casa was the perfect place for us to stay at the end of a gruelling three-week journey. It's positioning at Venice can not be bettered being in the middle of all that goes on. Having said that though, the room was quiet and perfect for our stay having all the necessary amenities. The staff at Su Casa were superb and went the extra mile when we needed help navigating the best way to get around Los Angeles. I can not speak highly enough of them and we are so thankful of their help. We would definitely go to Su Casa agin and will recommend it to friends who travel to the USA.
We had a more than lovely stay at the Goldfinger's get-away. Marsha and her daughter gave us a real welcome and went out of their way in every way possible. The lush breakfast was more than we could handle, fresh fruit, juice, a new baked or cooked treat every morning, eggs the whole works!! The neighborhood is quite, all the mayor highways are right around the corner, so easy access incase you had plans to see some of the sights. We were asked at the end of our one week stay to draw and write something on the momentum wall for guests who stayed at the GFGA. So maybe you'll be next to read all the nice comments at their wonderful B&B Greetz H&M
The house is very nice and unexpected in this area, The staff was very nice and helpful. The room and bath were wonderful. The little buffet is very cute and good. I would recommend this place "without moderation"... Go and enjoy one of the nicest and quietest stay in L.A.
very noisy air conditioner and noisy room right on the busy street. mosquito bites when sat outside at night breakfast was lovely but my H wished for some meat and I wished it was earlier. it would have been nice to have coffee earlier at least. wonderful place overall and lovely staff.
We stayed at the Bissell House when we had to travel from San Diego to L.A. on business and did not want to make the drive twice in one day. Chose the Bissell House for its proximity to the city and value. Arrived late, but our room was ready and we were greeted at the door. The room was adorable, very clean, lovely linens and comfortable bed. The room was small but made up for its size in charm. The next morning we went down for the seated breakfast. Expresso was made to order, the delicious quiche was accompanied by fresh fruit and scones. We shared our meal with two other couples, and had such lovely conversation with them. The grounds are beautiful. I would like to come back here and do a few tourist things in L.A., and spend a little more time at the House. I would definately come back here for the hospitality and charm.
The thing that stood our for us at Channel Road Inn was the lovely people, they were friendly and helpful! The food options looked nice although not many options for vegans, but we were very grateful to have fresh fruit. The room was nice and the bathrooms are of a high standard. However the room we stayed in was a bit dark and quite stuffy! We often had to leave our door open to the street with the ceiling fan going to get some airflow as there were no other windows other than the double french door entry. Having a stuffy room that smelt a bit dusty was a bit off putting but because the people are so nice it helped to make our experience a good one overall! The location is a bit inconvenient if you aren't hiring a car to get around. It is an old residence with lovely character and a comfortable bed.
The Bissell House is a beautiful place to stay when visiting Los Angeles, Nestled away from the busy freeways, yet with easy access it offers the amenities of a modern 4 star hotel but in a Victorian setting. The innkeepers and staff are ready to help and accommodate. Definitely will be back.
My room was lovely! Two days was not long enough to enjoy all of the local attractions and nowhere near long enough to enjoy the inn. I look forward to spending more time there on another trip to the LA area.
I thoroughly enjoyed discussing the history of this gracious, historic b & b with our wonderful hostess, Julie. The breakfasts were amongst the best I've ever had - anywhere! Everything was homemade and fresh, and the presentation was beautiful. We're definitely returning, even though we live less than 25 miles away. It was a perfect retreat during my Occidental College reunion!
My husband was reluctant to stay at a B & B. To be short, this was exceptionally clean....no cobwebs, no stray dead bugs. Very, very clean. The food was great and the gals working there were helpful and friendly without being fake. Much better than staying at a hotel, even a high priced hotel.
This was my second time to LA. The last time I came, I stayed in a different part of town. The rate for The Channel Road Inn was great and it came highly recommended by a colleague. It was everything he promised and more. I loved the ability to run along the beach and cardio on "The Stairs" which are within walking distance, but my favorite thing was the breakfast and snacks available when you needed. It was like staying with a family member. I would stay here again in a heartbeat and infact am already making plans for a return visit to a Four Sisters Inn.
