Corner George Inn

The innkeepers were extemely nice, the breakfast served both morning we stayed was glorious. the town was small and quaint. We stayed in the summer house and having the bathroom facilities in the main sleeping room was a little awkward. and the fans and heat needed to be updated as they were very loud. But the innkeepers friendliness and cleanliness will have us going back, but maybe visiting another room

In October 2012, we stayed one night at the Corner George Inn, located in a tiny but idyllic community nestled in the hills of Illinois. Stepping into the inn--which houses a general store and a ballroom--was truly like stepping back into time; the inn has the look and feel of an 1800s hotel. The innkeepers are passionate about both the inn and the community and their respective histories. Our room was very comfortable, and the ballroom provided a great space for just relaxing; I enjoyed playing the piano and the pump organ located in the ballroom. On the afternoon of our arrival, the innkeepers pointed us in the direction of area attractions, and we particularly enjoyed exploring the partially reconstructed Fort de Chartres. The next morning, the innkeepers served us a hearty and delicious breakfast in the ballroom. I wish we had had more time to stay because the inn is so charming and comfortable, the innkeepers are so interesting and dedicated to historic preservation, and there are so many other historic sites to see near by. We plan to come back and bring friends.

We felt like we took a step back in time. The B&B is in an old German town away from it all. We enjoyed the local wineries and restaurants. The room and breakfast was great!

My husband and I stayed one night at the Corner George and we loved every minute! The inn has a rich history and David and Marcia are very knowledgable and love to share the stories. They are both extremely friendly and you couldn't ask for better hosts. The house is charming. We didn't see the loft rooms or the summer kitchen, but the inn itself is full of character, and restored beautifully. We would love to return some day!

My wife and I had a great stay at the Corner George Inn. Very neat history of the Inn and town, and all of the restoration work is excellent! There are many fine antiques in the Inn as well. David and Marsha are very friendly with a lot of interesting stories to share. They truly are proud of all that they've accomplished and it shows. Good for them! We're already planning another visit.

The Corner George Inn is truly one of the loveliest B&Bs you'll ever find. David and Marcia create an experience that extends far beyond the typical bed and breakfast. This is a very small town, but there are so many cute places to visit and shop. We loved the General Store (check out the Shaker boxes!), Coffee Shop and Historical Museum. David helped us plan our day with trips to French Forts and hiking trails. Our rooms were very comfortable and the dining room makes you feel like you are visiting in the grandest of style! We will definitely be back!

My husband and I recently were able to get away for 2 nights and stayed at this lovely B&B. The owners and people in this town make it a class act and a place we will return.

My husband and I stayed at the Corner George Inn for our 24th Anniversary weekend. We fell in love with the Inn and Maeystown. We will definitely go back again. David & Marcia exceeded all of our expectations of staying in a bed and breakfast (our first B&B stay). There was another couple there the first night, but the other two nights we had the Inn to ourselves. We felt so at home during our stay and never left the breakfast table hungry. Breakfast was amazing each morning! Late afternoon snack with homemade breads and spiced tea hit the spot and were so appreciated. I kept forgetting that we were guests and kept offering to help clear the dishes or help with coffee in the morning. We can't say enough nice things about the Corner George Inn. The decor is completely Victorian and they did a wonderful job restoring the building. They were also very knowledgeable about the area and we had quite a few adventures at their suggestion. David took us to the coffee shop across the street and to the antique store. Later he gave a tour at the Mayestown Museum. We loved shopping at the general store attached to the Inn and I think of the Inn each time I burn the candles I purchased there. Mayestown and the Corner George Inn are going to be our home away from home! Thanks for making us feel so welcome the whole time!

We were completely thrilled with our stay at the Corner George Inn. We were given a free room upgrade simply because it was available, the rooms were very clean and comfortable, the food was fantastic, and Dave and Marcia were great hosts. They were informative about the history of Maeystown and the building and they even helped us to reserve a carriage ride and dinner in the next town over for our anniversary. We would go again and highly recommend anyone to visit!

I joined four friends for a two night rendezvous at the Corner George and what a fabulous getaway it was! I came away amazed at what the innkeepers, David and Marcia Braswell, have done to preserve this historic German village. (By the way, the whole village is listed on the National Register of Historic Places!) Their own complex of four restored buildings includes not only the inn but a general store, a sweet shop, an antique store, and a gourmet coffee shop. And to their credit, they are restorationists of the highest quality. The inn has the look and feel of an 1880's hotel which in fact it was. There are period antiques in every guest room as well as the common areas. Yet, they have seen to it that their guests have the creature comforts of the 21st century----central air, private baths with fine Italian toiletries (Poggesi), and WiFi. And the breakfasts were simply delightful! David and Marcia have operated the B & B for over twenty years and it shows. They are wonderful, gracious hosts who have honed their skills to the peak of perfection!!! If you are looking for a getaway to a quiet historic location (a short and easy drive from St. Louis) then this is your destination! Treat yourself soon!!!

This is our second stay at the Corner George Inn and an equally delightful stay it was. Maeystown and the inn itself are like taking a step back in time. Wrought with history and unique antiques there is something to look at and learn about everywhere you look. Our hosts David and Marsha were delightful and we thoroughly enjoyed all our breakfasts. If you are looking for a unique getaway this is the place to come.

Picture this… A horse and rider ascend Main Street as you leave a gourmet coffee shop, where beans are roasted and grinded before your eyes. Many of the surrounding buildings are made of stone, and a saloon across the way has a wooden bar reminiscent of the Wild West serving O’Fallon dark beer from a nearby micro-brewery. These are some sites we saw upon our arrival to Maeystown, Illinois. Only minutes from St. Louis, this 160 year old German town features buildings lovingly restored to their original splendor, and one is the Corner George Inn. We can’t say enough about our hosts David and Marcia Braswell, the gentle and generous innkeepers who operate this lovely B&B. We had our own suite, which is actually an entire apartment. An exposed stone wall with deep set windows was wonderful to gaze out from our antique iron bed, and in the bath was a claw foot, oh-so-deep, antique tub! David Braswell spent the whole first evening with us explaining the history of the town (he is a German language and cultural scholar), setting up a golf outing and tours for the following day, and then recommending area restaurants. We enjoyed Gallaghers, the Dreamland Palace, and Frederico’s, all near to Maeystown. Breakfast is served in a gorgeous ballroom filled with antique furnishings, and combines a delicious array of fresh fruits, gourmet delicacies, and beverages. For one needing extra rest and a long lie-in, breakfast was delivered to my room, which was a service above and beyond! The stay a the Corner George Inn was a wonderful experience, one I will do again. The little town of Maeystown is like being in a small, quaint Germany town and the people there could not be more accommadating and friendly. The Inn and the Inn Keepers David and Marsha are outstanding host. Lovely!

Maeystown, Illinois, is nestled into a sloping, timbered bluff above the Mississippi River flood plain, a short distance south of St. Louis, Missouri. Originally settled by German immigrants during the mid-1800’s, the town maintains many of the original structures, one of which is the painstakingly restored building that now houses the Corner George Inn at the town’s center. Innkeepers David and Marcia Braswell make you feel welcomed and right at home upon arrival. Our accommodations were very spacious (in the Loft) and quite comfortable with a quiet serenity helped by the thick limestone, outside walls. Breakfast at the Inn is served to your tastes and it was delicious. For lunch and dinner, a restaurant serving several tasty offerings is just a stone’s throw away. First impressions include the town’s size (less than 200 residents), its architecture, and surprising solitude given its proximity to a major metropolitan area. If you are seeking a quiet get-a-way that’s rich in early Illinois history while enjoying excellent accommodations and food, the Corner George Inn in Maeystown is for you.

We stayed with the Corner George Inn on our wedding night, so we got in very late, but the owner stayed up until midnight just to let us in! The room was wonderful; clean and lovely. The breakfast was hearty and delicious! We could not have asked for more. We would recommend this bed and breakfast to everybody for all occasions!

The Corner George Inn in quaint historic Maeystown Illinois was a magnificent experience. The Inn was cozy and comfortable and sits in a quiet village in rural Illinois. The Inn is beautifully restored with great attention to detail of the period, and despite this it is very reasonable priced at less than 100 dollars. The breakfast rivaled that of the Ritz Carlton, which consisted of a beautifully arranged fruit plate, artichoke frittata, coffee cake and fresh squeezed orange juice. Maeystown sits about 1 hour outside of Saint Louis and was the perfect stay for my wife and I on our wedding night, The Braswell's beautiful inn did not disappoint. Thank you!

A wonderful retreat away from the hustle & bustle of city life. Excellent breakfast and hospitality. The rooms were all in meticulous condition.

We stayed in one of the "hotel rooms", which would out well. They have rooms in the old hotel as well as rooms in separate buildings just across the street. Very well satisfied with the stay. David is very knowledgeable about the surrounding area and provided good suggestions for dinner, etc. The only restaurant "in town" closed, so expect to drive for food other than breakfast. Good to very good options within 15 - 40 minute drive.

We stayed a night over this past weekend. There is no cell phone service in town, which I didn't know ahead of time, but it was nice to get away from it all. The room was exactly as it appeared in the pictures. The only thing I did not realize ahead of time was that the bed, toilet and tub are all one big room, with only little privacy screens. Other than that, it was great. The staff was all super friendly. Breakfast was very delicious!

Maeystown is so peaceful. My husband and I will be back. The people are very nice and put your needs first. They have the best breakfast so far then any other place we have been.

The inn itself exceeded our expectations, clean and very nicely decorated. The only disappointment was the breakfast. It was a rice casserole and was very bland and way too much rice. Also, do not like being told a time for breakfast without a small window. We were last to table and everyone was waiting to be served until we sat down. Very embarrassing.

David was a gracious host and a great travel guide. His recommendations to historic sites in the area, other activities and restaurants in the area were great. His history of the Inn and the town of Maeystown were very interesting. The Corner George Inn is a wonderful place to visit and the breakfast is excellent.

We recently stayed at the Corner George Inn with a group of friends. The Dave and Marcia were most kind and helpful. They offered many suggestions on places to visit and how to find them. Dave also gave us a tour of the town. He was very interesting and knowledgeable. The town is wonderfully quaint and quiet...a step back in time. Be sure to stop and listen to the babbling creek. The rooms at the Inn were all well done with antiques and romance. We played games in the ballroom and had an absolutely great time! Breakfast was also outstanding, delicious...and plenty of it!! The Inn and the town were definitely a passion for our hosts and they sure did it justice!

David and Marcia have ran this Inn for 20 years and it so obvious as to why they are successful! This quaint inn is beautiful, clean and is the hub of the village of Maeystown. They are gracious and giving hosts who know how to spoil their guests.

14 years ago we went to Corner George Inn to celebrate our 10th anniversary. Coming back to the same great host and hostess, the Braswells, was an extra treat, especially when we were able to enjoy the 'left' they had restored to make a most desirable getaway for us, with no TVs or telephones and the impressive room with gourmet breakfast delivered to our room, we were sad to leave. The town was indeed Shangrila tucked away in a gulley- a real treat!

Clean and comfortable. Well-maintained with attention to detail. Personable host. Guest company is consistently friendly in fun conversation over a Connoisseur's breakfast that is sensitive to individual likes and needs. A nice retreat while visiting other local interests as Forte de Chartres near Prairie du Rocher with its annual events

We enjoyed our stay at this lovely inn near St. Louis, MO. The room was comfortable (summer kitchen room) and the food was delicious. We'll be back!

Very relaxing, a lot to do or do nothing. The bluffs overlooking the Mississippi river, antique store located not to far, very rich in history. We had a wonderful picnic under the trees where 2 streams come together provided by our host. The breakfast was one of the best we've had at any B&B. We will go back.
