Just returned from my lovely tonight stay at the Vrooman mansion. Came into central Illinois with my high school senior so that we could visit to Illinois Weslyan University. I didn't realize that my daughter would end up staying at Illinois Weslyan the entire weekend and so I was alone at the Vrooman mansion. It ended up being a step back in time, as a history lover and an avid reader,I treasured every minute of it. The mansion is very clean and the rooms well appointed, great bath products, beautiful robes, and the breakfasts were absolutely incredible. I highly recommend this bed-and-breakfast to anyone looking for something special.

Washroom was shared and had antiquated leaking flush box toilet that required water to be shut off at the valve or the toilet would run all night, to use the facility you had to turn on valve wait for flush box to fill flush and when complete shut off the valve. Quite cumbersome and annoying.

My husband and I spent a wonderful three nights in Julia Vrooman's Suite. The restoration of the home is impeccable, and the breakfasts were scrumptious. And, best of all, the Vrooman Mansion is only two blocks away from wonderful, longtime friends. If your travels take you to Bloomington, you really ought to consider staying here. It may be more expensive than the chain hotels on the Interstate but, oh, the difference!

What an impressive place the Vrooman Mansion is! The public spaces are spacious and luxurious, and the guest rooms roomy and comfortable, taking one back to a time we could only remember. Also, the outside grounds are beautifully landscaped and maintained, and breakfast was truly a treat for the palate. This is a place one wants to visit again!

The Vrooman is truly a unique place to stay. The property is well maintained and charming. The staff is very nice as well. I'd recommend staying in the carriage house at least once. It still has old-world charm but the bathrooms are more modern and upscale. The rooms in the house are great, though. You will be amazed that you're staying in some place so old and beautiful. One thing to remember: the house is old. If creakiness bothers you or you are a light sleeper, you might be disturbed when others move around. The only thing that could be improved upon for me is the breakfast. It's beautifully presented, but I haven't loved most of the things I've had. They've just been OK. The staff will, however, honor special requests. So if you just want something simple like scrambled eggs, they'll do that for you. Overall, I love it. And I will continue to go back.

The rooms are romantic and breakfast is outstanding. The staff gave us a grand tour and we spent time pouring over the Vroorman family albums, which were very interesting. I highly recommend staying here.

We could not have asked for a better getaway for the weekend. So quiet and peaceful. The staff was warm and friendly. The Vrooman Mansion is so full of amazing history. Absolutely beautiful place!
This charming European-style bedroom was originally a guest room in the Scott's home. The adjoining trunk room, originally used to house guests' baggage after it had been brought up to the second floor by an English Lift, has been converted into an attached private bathroom. The original bath fixtures include a wooden rail claw-foot tub and shower combination. This lovely room overlooks the original home of Eli Barber, the man responsible for the building of the mansion. A lovely guest room, this room was used for the same purpose when the Scotts and Vroomans lived here. Its proximity to the trunk room made it convenient for servants to deliver houseguests' luggage.
