"Originally, my husband and I planned to go to Mohonk Mountain House, but with their two night minimum stay requirement over the Christmas break, it was too expensive (over $1100). Since we just wanted to get away from the city for a couple of days and walk around the scenic mountain area, we found the Stone House B&B through an online search which is relatively close to Mohonk and much more affordable (two nights came out to about $430 something with tax). We chose the Geographer room because of the whirlpool bathtub, which was very relaxing after a chilly walk around beautiful Lake Minnewaska. Minnewaska State Park is adjacent to the Mohonk Preserve and is only $8 to get in. (Owner, Sam, recommended it.) It took us about 30 minutes to drive there from the B&B. Breakfast at the B&B was delicious and so filling we ate only a light snack for lunch and for dinner drove into neighboring Kingston (about 10 minutes drive) for a scrumptious meal at a French restaurant recommended by the B&B owners. The house itself has many interesting features and artifacts that we were fortunate to learn about from the owners and the staff. Overall, our trip fulfilled everything we were looking for--a relaxing mountain getaway-- at a much better price than if we followed our original plan. "
