This is an excellent BnB! Janet and Warren are so nice and genuine. About the house – very clean-spotless in fact, warm and cozy. The hosts have thought of everything and then some. They have a ton of books, movies and board games you may use if you want. A self serve fridge and snack area along with coffee and Tea area(with tons of flavor choices),wine glasses and bottle opener that was open for guest use 24 hours. The best part of this was the yummy homemade cookies always available. They also had a microwave for guest use if you needed it. They were kind enough to keep our wedding cake topper(since it was our 1 year anniversary) in their large fridge for us until we wanted it also which we greatly appreciated. Our room: We stayed in the Wayne room although I would stay in any of them. The room was as I said spotless and had a nice size bathroom and awesome shower. It also had a fireplace, seating area, robes plenty of towels, blankets and pillows. The room also had some special features such as fresh flowers, little dish of candy, shampoo, conditioner, soap, makeup remover cloths, hairdryer and a really useful"in case you forgot it" basket with a variety of items for guest use. The bed was large and very comfy. We spent a lot of time in the room reading, watching TV and relaxing. It was the perfect atmosphere for that! The Food: The breakfasts were tasty and beautifully presented and always several courses. The first day we had Angelic Bananas, scones, pumpkin stuffed french toast with an amazing pecan maple syrup and bacon. The second day we had baked apples, a sausage egg and cheese strata and toast with a selection of Janet's homemade jams. Each day also included several juice choices, coffee and tea. Everything was baked or made from scratch and was delicious and very filling. They want you to be full and graciously offered seconds of everything if you wanted it. Janet makes many different varieties of homemade jams and jellies and we got some to take home.
The Proprietor Mary is one of most lovely people I met ever. I had a 2 days pause in Honesdale on a cross-country biketrip and on the whole journey this was the best place I stayed in. Without exaggerating, I couldn`t imagine a place to revitalize better! Sorry for my bad English, neverthe less I hope you understand :)
We were guests at James Manning House this past October for the first time. My husband and I received a warm welcome from Warren and Janet (in spite of our late arrival). Since we were the only guests that evening, they were kind enough to upgrade us to the larger suite. Our night was warm and cozy with the fireplace burning. The highlight of our stay was the delicious breakfast and the warm conversation. We will definitely be back soon and recommend to our friends! L&B
We had a great stay at the James Manning House. We have come to that area for years and learned so much more about the history of the area, the eating in the area and some shops in the area. The hosts were so interesting to talk with and also interested in what we had to say. They accommodated our every need. I would go back in the New York minute. It was a great time.
We first stayed here for several nights in July and when informed we were going back to the area for a family affair, we contacted Kathy for another reservation. Our experience in July was so nice, we wanted to come back and no longer stay at another area B&B we had for several years. Kathy makes the place work in many ways and the experience has been very enjoyable
My family and I took over the E. Kellogg B&B for several days in June for a family reunion (some others in the family stayed in a B&B a few houses away). Kathy was most gracious and helpful in our plans. All of us got together for dinner a couple of times at Kathy's. Using her grill, the kitchen and some utensils of her own we were able to have a great time and reconnect in a private setting rather than a restaurant. Kathy, thank you so very much! Don't be surprised if some of us show up again!
My husband, myself and another couple stayed with Warren and Janet for our second visit recently....They are so welcoming and warm...seems like we returned to old friends or even family when you are with them...wish we could get there more often.....maybe we will.....
We stayed at The James Manning House for my 40th birthday. It was a special birthday, and thus we wanted something nicer than your standard motel/hotel fare. The Manning House is quaint, quiet, and surrounded by picturesque, old-world type scenery. I love historical settings and old buildings, and The Manning house gives you a sense of being a part of history while still enjoying the amenities befitting a modern establishment. It's the best of both worlds. The owners were friendly without being intrusive, and the food was excellent. They always had various types of coffee available at all hours along with fresh-baked treats. This was important to a night owl and confessed foodie like me. I will go back one day which is saying a lot since I'm from the midwest, so getting to PA is not a hop skip and jump endeavor.
Whenever I'm in town, I purposely stay at Kathy Schloesser's E. Kellogg B&B. In April, 2013, I stayed in the Ladd Room for a week and indulged in the comfort and serenity this B&B offers. Kathy is a great proprietor, serves wholesome, big breakfasts that are made to order, and is a lively conversationalist. Great place to stay!
My husband and I had a simply wonderful time at the E. Kellogg B&B last weekend. Kathy made every effort to provide us with delicious foods and beverages, a history of the house, places we might like to visit during our stay in Honesdale and much more. We're looking forward to returning for more relaxation and pampering. Jeannie and Ken
This is what a B&B is all about. The home is appealing, warm and friendly. We went for a birthday celebration and it was more than we could have hoped for. Our hosts were just terrific and we can't wait to go back again. As someone who has visited a number of B&B's, I highly recommend The James Manning House as a "must stay." Thank you Janet, Warren and Louie for making us feel so welcome. Diana and Alan Karmin Westfield, NJ
On a spur of the moment three of us decided to get away for a weekend. We arrived on Saturday afternoon and were greeted by Kathy, who made us feel right at home. She gave us some ideas about what was going on in the area, especially what was not especially noted in tourist literature. We followed her advice, and had dinner in a wonderful place which is also an art gallery. Breakfast on Sunday could not be beat. I only wish we could have stayed longer, but I will be back.
Our recent stay was wonderful! What a relaxing find- just the get-away we needed from the pace of everyday life. Kathy does everything she can to make her guests feel "at home". We will plan yet another trip in the spring.
My husband and I stayed at the E. Kellogg B&B last month and loved it! Kathy was so welcoming, and her B&B was really cozy. Food was great - she does little things that really make a difference (remembered our preferences, had extras for us, etc). I can't recommend this place enough and we will be back!
We stayed for two nights in Nov, 2012. The entire home was very clean, which is important for us because we have allergies to dust, mold and perfumes--but we had no problems at all. Janet and Warren were wonderful hosts. The food was excellent and they even had their own homemade brandy, jellies and lots of other goodies for us. The home was beautifully decorated and very cozy and peaceful, with lots of interesting things to read and enjoy in the sitting and living rooms. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely return!
Recently stayed at James Manning House for our fourth mutli night stay. We love returning to this fine establishment. Janet and Warren are wonderful people and provide an excellent experience. The breakfasts are lovingly prepared,, delicious and plentifull.
I can't say enough about this B&B. Everything was fabulous and the owners, Jan & Warren, could not have been better hosts. Great food, vintage historic home, very clean, beautiful grounds and gardens. We couldn't have been happier at any B&B!
Even though our stay at E. Kellogg B & B was brief we couldn't have been happier with our choice. Kathy, the owner, is a true gem of a person. She has a great way about her, makes you feel welcome immediately, and has a great sense of humor. Our room was immaculate and very quaint and comfortable. Breakfast was a real treat including some of Kathy's home made baked goodies. As we were leaving I was admiring some perennials in front of the house, and Kathy actually went and got a shovel and dug out a batch of the plant for me to take home for my garden!! Definitely a place to stay if you're visiting the eastern Pennsylvania area.
Our stay ar the James Manning House was the perfect home away from home. Not only is the Inn BEAUTIFUL and so well maintained but InnKeepers Warren and Janet were the most wonderful hosts! We definitely plan on returning to this cozy Inn located in one of the most scenic and lovely areas of PA's Endless Mountains - Highly Recommended!!!! Oh - and the breakfast was absoultly delicious!!!
This is a charming and extremely well-kept B &B in a lovely village located in the prettiest landscape the area has to offer. If this were not enough: Really warm hosts, wonderful home-cooked breakfasts with new surprises every morning, and a well-sized room very comfortable room. Stepping outside the house a spacious and very pretty garden, with a bench overlooking a lawn/meadow gently sloping down toward a wooded area. Simply delightful!
I was pleasantly surprised by the accommodations and genuine hospitality found at this wonderful Bed and Breakfast. I had booked the James Manning House mainly for its proximity to Honesdale, Pa for a family event. Resting in and relying on this Bed and Breakfast as our "headquarters" for a family funeral was so easy and pleasant to do. The ambience was wonderful; the hosts absolutely delightful and the Breakfast large and lovely. I would and have highly recommend this Inn as a place to stay that would enhance any trip to NE Pennslyvania. Mary Maloney, Virginia.
