We visited the area to go to the Herkimer Diamond Mines, and were very pleased with the Bellinger's proximity to there as well as the Canal Cruises, food etc. Leon and Chris were very personable and friendly without being too pushy. The breakfast was great and very easy to customize every day. The whole house was gorgeous, obviously well cared for and the dishes were exquisite. We stayed in the Heritage Rose room and were very pleased with it, the closet was huge, big enough to put suitcases etc in. The AC was great as it was pretty warm when we were there. One night we sat out back at the fire pit with the owners as well as another very nice couple, great way to relax! There was a sauna, treadmill and hottub available, though we did not use them this time, we will in the future! Their dog and cats were friendly but not too pushy, just adorable. We will definitely come back next time we want to go back to the mines :)
We arrived early and was welcomed into their beautiful home despite the hour. Because we were the only guest midweek, Chris upgraded our room to the largest one. It was a beautiful retreat- just what we were hoping for. We were treated like royalty ! My husband and I just loved the cats- who were more like dogs. If I am ever in this area again, Bellinger Rose will be our destination,
Chris and Leon are wonderful hosts-- very warm and welcoming without being the least bit intrusive. The bedrooms and house are amazingly beautiful without being overdone with nick nacks. The breakfasts are gourmet quality without being overdone or too sweet. They also are very accommodating in allowing you to choose your breakfast. Chris's massages are amazing! The surrounding Mohawk Valley and small towns around it are beautiful and historic anytime of year We have been coming for over a decade and it is always on our list of places to go for a short get-away. Note they do have cats, but we come despite my wife's allergies and they keep the place very clean so she can last without her allergy medication
We stayed here for two nights for our niece's wedding. The host Roland and Steve were very nice. Very welcoming, breakfast was delightful each morning. A Victorian house with nice charm, bright bedrooms with private bathrooms for each.
Warm and welcoming hosts made our stay a delight. Roland and Steve shared their knowledge of the area and the history of their beautiful home and made us feel "at home". Portobello Inn was a highlight of our trip and we definitely recommend it. Nance and Ken
My wife and I recently celebrated our anniversary with a stay at Belinger Rose. It was our second visit there. Chris and Leon are outstanding hosts and although we didn't see any of Leon this time around Chris certainly carried the day. Not only that but she is an incredible massage therapist. I highly recommend both the B&B and the massage.
From the moment Roland met us at the door,. we found the service at Portobello to be attentive, but in no way overbearing. The Inn is beautifully decorated, with a fabulous collection of antiques. The room was comfortable and quite clean, with surprising attention to detail (for example, ironed bedsheets and towels). Breakfasts were exceptional, with a good variety of pretty healthy choices, well prepared (see recipes on the website!). One of the owners spent time one morning telling us about the interesting history of the area, We were looking only for a place to stay over the weekend while we visited relatives, but found it to be much more than that, We would return just for the B&B.
The Portobello Inn is a hidden treasure in Central NY. Roland and Steve made us feel completely at home in their magnificent inn. The historic home is backdrop for tremendous service and amazing breakfasts. As anyone who has owned a historic home can attest, they are always a work-in-progress... The Portobello Inn has enough charm to make up for a few repairs that were underway during our stay.
Stay one night in early June. We were met by a gracious host who remember all our requests and upgrade our room to the Arlington. The room was comfortable, well decorated and quiet (no concern in this room due to closest of train tracks.) Breakfast was well prepared and tasty. A lovely egg dish with the recipe shared. Do not avoid this lovely and old home due to the outside appearance. Per our host the flaking outside paint has been a problem and not easily solved.
Our visit to Belinger Rose was just what we needed for a quick getaway. The house is beautiful. The room was very big and comfortable. The jacuzzi tub and I roomgas fireplace added extra touches for relaxation and ambiance. Chris and Leon were gracious and wonderful. We will be back.
Hi Newcomers, and Double-Hi Leon and Chris (the hosts)! The tiny town and huge hearts of our hosts were both well-welcomed in our stay at the Bellinger Rose! OH!!!! and Triple-Hi to the Kitties!! Ashley the puppy was shy and adorable but the Kitties were our roommates when we left the door open for them. We loved the fireplace in our room (we stayed in the Crimson Rose room), the TV, and taking a short walk downstairs to the awesome hot tub (so many buttons!!). The amenities definitely talked us into more downtime inside than we were planning on but that shouldn't stop you from visiting the 2 ski areas within a 40 minute drive, or the Cooperstown breweries/distillery. Our hosts were also wonderful! It seems like they never get bored of talking to us strangers. Leon also recommended a restaurant for Valentine's Day dinner and called ahead of time for a reservation which was just the beginning of their hospitality. Breakfast was delicious and fresh every morning, and it was all made to order. Chris made the muffins herself ...order the muffins... We would definitely visit again!
At the Portobello Inn we enjoyed our very comfortable room, excellent breakfasts, and the warm hospitality of Roland and Steven. In the area we rode the canalway bike trail in the fall beauty of the Mohawk River Valley.
I would love to stay again! Thank you for running such a gem of a B&B! Thank you for accommodating our crazy rush in and out need starting on Saturday. Breakfast was great with the other guests on Sunday morning, it was sad to have to leave would have enjoyed getting a massage, maybe next time! Your cats are so well behaved and delightful to be around also!
Home for a wedding in the valley and our first time at Portobello Inn. Stayed two relaxing nights. More like staying with friends than lodging. Roland's attentiveness and friendliness were great. It was a very pleasant time,
We stayed at this charming B & B on our trek through NE as we toured the fall colors tour of up state NY, VT, NH and ME. This was a restful enjoyable stay and besides the owners who opend their home to us we met a very nice younger couple from Germany. A great place to stay! Ed & Karla from AZ
My wife and I greatly enjoyed our stay at the Bellinger Rose during our recent cycling vacation. Chris made us feel very welcome and even offered to shuttle us to dinner. The house is beautifully decorated and the breakfast was delicious.
Roland and Steve were delightful hosts but have their work cut out to restore the house to its former glory. The main problem though was the fact that the property is so close to the railroad. Some goods trains that went by in the middle of the night were exceptionally noisy and went on for ever.
We stayed one night at the Bellinger Rose Bed and Breakfast while in the area for a wedding. Chris and Leon were gracious, attentive hosts and have done an outstanding job of refurbishing their home into a beautiful Victorian period property. Our room was attractive, cozy and well appointed. We filled out a menu for our breakfast choices and the meal was delicious and bountiful, served in a lovely dining room. We enjoyed our stay and highly recommend this wonderful B&B. Mike & Andrea
Leon and Chris were very accomodating hosts! The massage by Chris was wonderfully relaxing. Breakfast was made to order and was simply delicious. Room was clean and very cozy. What else could one ask for?
What a relief to enjoy an antique filled home which doesn't require one to tip toe thro' the tchotkes. Formerly an antique collector, our host Roland has a museum of enchanting pieces for viewing. The ingeniously juxtaposed private baths ensure that no guest is bothered by noise from an adjoining room. The rooms are bright, bright, clean, clean, and thoughtfully detailed. They are, thankfully, free of the gloom, fringe, decorative pillows and clutter that so often presents hurdles to work around with luggage and personal effects. Instead, there is plenty of room on bedside tables for books, writing materials and your own digital equipment. Our opera group was warmly accommodated. Some of the best news is that Roland and his business partner, Steve, anticipate opening a gourmet restaurant for intimate dining. The food will be wonderful, judging by the breakfast. We learned that Steve is an organist, pianist, choral director, and Episcopal priest which certainly adds class to any gathering. As two of us were there to work on music using the baby grand supplied by Steve, this added meaning and enjoyment to our stay. Yes, as TripAdvisor noted, the outside still needs painting and freight and passenger trains rumble rhythmically by. None of us objected and instead welcomed the trains and far, far, far in the distance, that "diminished seventh" train whistle which I only heard once . . . Comfortable beds, fluffy towels, lots of fast, hot water, and superbly accommodating hosts ensured a memorable week with Glimmerglass Opera..
What a refreshing place - there are few pleasant places to stay in Herkimer. Roland is an amazing innkeeper, so accommodating and a delight to know. Our room was elegant. The sheets were even ironed. Breakfast was delicious: quiche, homemade muffins. There was a wonderful sauce made of Herkimer blueberries. We were in the area on business, and Roland was so kind as to make early breakfast for us both days. We encourage you to visit.
