We just spent a few nights at Ship's Knees again after a 5-year gap. (Where does the time go?) Peter welcomed us as if we had just been there last year. Denise does an excellent job paying attention to details. The location, facility and grounds are all very appealing - especially being able to walk down the hill to Nauset Beach. Breakfast each morning was delicious, and the other guests were friendly. We are looking forward to returning next summer!
Stayed a couple nights before the summer season started. The innkeepers are very nice and helpful with any questions about the area. The room we stayed in was very comfortable, recently refurbished and nicely appointed. The included breakfast was just what we needed to start the day. We would stay here again and recommend it to anyone.
We had the good fortune of staying at the Ship's Knees in later April. Couldn't have picked a better spot. Friendly, caring, hospitable, helpful, and all at a very reasonable off-peak price! Peter and Denise were very helpful in getting us oriented and off to good adventures in dining and more. We would go back in a minute--the access to Nauset Beach, the CCRT, and all of Orleans and Wellfleet is superb!
I have been going to the Nauset House in now for 14 years!!! I have only great things to say about the customer service, comfort and coziness of the Inn. John and Cindy and Judy ( receptionist) go above and beyond to be helpful with information on local eating establishments, and things to do in the area, and most of all that you are happy there. This year, four of my five sisters are joining me!! Lorena M. Hart, Madbury NH
Ship's Knees was a great place to stay in a perfect location. It's about a 5-7 minute walk to Nauset Beach and a short drive to lots of restaurants and shopping in Orleans. The pool was an added benefit with complimentary towels. The room we stayed in was a tad small (no place to lay out suitcases), but that may not be the case for all rooms at the inn. The owners were very welcoming and helpful.
We stayed at the Ship's Knees Inn in April of 2011, just as the weather began to warm up. It is a charming house, a bit small, but the rooms are comfortable and the decor makes you feel like you are spending a few evenings in a time gone bye. A walk through the upstairs hallway is particularly intriguing. The breakfast was the best we had in our 2 week tour of New England. The scones are to die for. The inn is situated a mile or so from a public beach, 10 minutes from many places to eat, 30 minutes from Chatham (which was one of my favorite towns we visited) and an easy day trip from the upper arm of Cape Cod. Would definitely recommend staying here, and will return again.
I stay at the Inn once a year, usually for a couple of nights, to walk Nauset Beach and go to a couple of Cape League baseball games. Peter and Denise are terrific - welcoming, engaging, helpful. I've stayed in several different rooms, ranging from small to spacious. All wonderful if you like "old Cape" style accommodations. If you like Nauset, you can't beat this location.
People have a lot of different criteria regarding what they want and need in a vacation lodging. My companion & I wanted something quiet and peaceful where we could spend a few days. Before we found Ship's Knees Inn we had been looking at places in Provincetown, but soon realized that area was quite busy and crowded. We were both so glad to have found this lovely quiet place in East Orleans. We visited in the "shoulder season" (late April in our case) so there weren't a lot of visitors yet either in town or at the Inn. i.e. things were quiet and very peaceful. Our room was sweet and felt very private (we chose rm 4 which has a private entrance) Everything about the place and our stay exceeded our expectations. We have agreed in retrospect we would do it all over again without hesitation and we would certainly choose Ship's Knees Inn again. What a lovely place!
My husband and I were in Providence, RI for a family wedding and decided to take a side trip to Cape Cod. What a find this inn was! We couldn't have been happier with our stay there. Our room was clean and cozy, and we loved the beach cottage-y decor. The continental breakfast was very good, lots to choose from. The location can't be beat (just 1/4 mile from Nauset Beach!), and Denise is a wonderful hostess. The only problem with our stay was that it was too short! We definitely recommend Ship's Knees Inn, and hope very much to return before too long.
First time back in thirty years, don't know why we waited so long. Spent our honeymoon there in 1981. Really enjoy the way the rooms have maintained that old inn look. Very quiet and relaxing. Denise Butcher was very friendly, made you feel like you were coming home. Continental breakfest was very good. Looking forward to returning in the spring to enjoy the outside patio and fireplace
I stayed at the Ship's Knees Inn twice last year and had a lovely time on both visits. It was nice being so close to Nauset Beach - easy walking distance! And Peter and Denise are wonderful hosts. I can't wait to go back again this year. Five Stars!!! Laura Lepine Cape Elizabeth ME
My friend and I stayed only one night, and we were very impressed..we wanted to stay 2 weeks.... The rooms are very clean and beautiful. This Inn has so many beautiful areas, where you can find relaxation and peace.... The breakfast is absolutely delicious and the service is also wonderful . We can't wait to visit again
Everything you would expect from a New England B&B and more - beautifully maintained Colonial home, gracious innkeepers, and delicious, hearty breakfasts. We stayed in the Cranberry Room - well-appointed, cozy, a good value. At night, we enjoyed mingling with other guests over wine and hors d'oeuvres while finding a restaurant for dinner, and playing board games upon our return. We also enjoyed late-night walks to the beach, only 15 minutes away. Only criticism - the bed in the Cranberry Room was a bit uncomfortable and perhaps could be replaced.
We found a wonderful bed & breakfast inn 3 years ago on Cape Cod, Orleans, MA. Denise and Peter Butcher are great people. We will be back again next year. I would recommend this place to anyone!
This inn was the best b&b we have ever stayed at. Beautiful, comfortable rooms, immaculately kept, delicious, multiple choice for breakfast including eggs - not just a bun or cold cereal, although there was that too. There was a very pleasant, sociable atmosphere with other guests thanks to breakfast served "family style" at big tables and a glass of wine or fruit juice offered at the end of the day. Most of the guests were repeaters and were a very pleasant group from all over the world. The owners were most thoughtful and gave excellent advice on places to go, things to do and where to eat. Real HOSTS.
Located within walking distance of beautiful beaches, Nauset House inn exudes warmth, charm and friendliness at a level far above most country inns. Attention to detail and guest comforts is paramount. Arrive as a guest, leave as a friend
Yes indeed we spent 8 wonderful days at the Ship's Knees Inn. An ample breakfast outdoors, Denise and Peter so kind and helpful even when we had lost the key for the third time. A 5' walk to the most beautiful and clean beach, Nauset beach. I hope very much to be able to come again!
Reasonable prices get you a comfortable room, very clean with lovely little decorations. Wireless internet worked great. Walk to the beach or sit in a comfy chair on the lawn, the grounds were very well kept. Yummy breakfast and friendly, happy staff. Make sure to get a room away from the construction until that finishes. Really great location!
