So, I wanted to return to Mexico city after 17 years and show it to my wife, and Patio 77 was recommended by my cousin, who lives there. Sometimes you choose a place to stay that just defines the entire trip, and this was one of those times: wonderful, helpful staff, an unbelievably tranquil and well renovated building, and a sense of style and comfort that is just hard to buy. The location in old Mexico City has a wonderful mix of classic elegance and modern hustle and bustle: you're right on the Metro for buses and trains but you can also easily walk to Reforma and all the sights of the city (why not spend your first day wandering to Chapultepec castle?) But most of all the staff were wonderful. Helping us with our rubbish spanish, bringing us fresh, eye-opening, perfectly prepared breakfast, and even telling us where we can get a decent pair of cowboy boots. I was always in love with La Ciudad de Mexico, but el Patio 77 means I'll be going back every few months. This place is almost too nice, for serious. PS it's hard to cover everything, but even the art on the walls there became a sort of visual companion for our stay. Just beautiful!

Absolutely wonderful B&B, very helpful staff, delicious Mexican breakfast, clean rooms and modern furniture. I loved it and would come back to Mexico City just to stay at this nice place again.

I booked my room after reading the reviews on Tripadvisor. It is located very close to metro station San Cosme so you can reach easily the sights. I loved my room it was nicely decorated as the whole place. The exhibited works of local artists provide a special atmosphere. When you enter the big door you can find a beautiful, relaxing place where you can feel really comfortable. I spent 5 nights in room Veracruz. My bed was huge and super cozy and the shared bathroom was also nice and clean. The wifi was much better than in my previous 4star hotel. I liked the breakfasts a lot - warm Mexican food with fresh juice, fruits and coffee. The staff is very helpful and kind, their hospitality is amazing. They arranged great tours for me to Teotihuacan and to the local markets. Both tours were professionally organized and I could learn a lot about history and arts too. El Patio’s staff gives you all support you can imagine (from suggesting places to see or eat to calling a taxi) they are really taking care of you. Big thank you Alan, Diego and the entire staff! I would like to come back and I highly recommend this place.

I stayed at El Patio 77 for two weeks while working in Mexico City. I very much enjoyed the calm and beauty of the space and the friendliness of the owners and staff. The breakfast is proper Mexican, but I could have something else if I wanted to, so I recommend the 'real one'. I will definitely come back for a cultural trip. The area is still a little rough, but it is an upcoming location, but it is extremely central and everything is in close reach. It is a beautiful place and a little magic too!

Fabulous, staff very personable, beautiful space, and the was breakfast fantastic! Every morning the staff would ask us where we were heading to and they would give us a local recommendation. Can't speak more highly of our stay! Will stay here again and have already recommended to our friends. Walking distance to everything or very easy to catch the subway. Only complaint it was a little noisy at night but would stay there again. Love it!!!!

We generally enjoyed our stay at El patio 77. It was fun staying in an older restored home of a wealthy family in what today has become a working class neighborhood, away from all the tumult and commotion of the Centro. We enjoyed the high ceilings, techos de bóveda, large windows, stately staircases, and art and artistry all around us. The shared bath proved not to be a problem. Breakfasts were prepared with love and affection and there was only one repetition in our seven day stay. The staff was friendly and helpful and made us feel at home. There is a library featuring books about Mexico City for all to enjoy and benefit from. Our bed was comfortable and beautifully made for us every day. There was no change of bath towels for the week, but perhaps that is to be expected in a bed and breakfast calling itself "sostenible." Actually, our only problem during our stay in mid-May was that if we opened our windows at night, the room was full of hungry mosquitoes. If we did not open them, we were uncomfortably warm with no air stirring through the double-paned windows. Sleeping was difficult without fresh air flowing through the room. (The staff provided us with a plug-in device to help ward off the bugs, but alas it did not work.) So we chose to open the windows to get some cool air at night to be able to sleep and went home with more than a few bites. Requesting an inside room facing the courtyard may provide for air flow and freedom from mosquitos, though we are not certain about that.

The environmentally aware aspect of El Patio was the reason for us choosing to stay there. But what we hadn't anticipated was the beauty of the building-photos cannot convey how spectacular El Patio is. In addition all the staff were professional and helpful. We were very appreciative that they were able to accomodate us as vegans with a really great breakfast daily provided without fuss or stress. Thank you everyone at El Patio we hope to return soon but meanwhile you are in our dreams! Ginny and John

I recommend to all this pleasant B & B in the heart of México city. It is eco-friendly. We stayed in the beautiful Oaxaca suite. Every morning, we had a different typical mexican breakfast with fresh juice, fruit platter and fresh grounded coffee. Diego and all the staff were always there in helping us with restaurants, tours, taxis, etc. They even lended us a Metro card for us to use; we only had to refill it at the end. They gave us a map of the surrounding area with all the typical mexican restaurants. We tryed some and they were as indicated on the map. El Patio 77 is situated near the Metro station San Cosme (3 minutes walk) and near also to the Centro Historico (15-20 minutes walk). We had a dream stay with El Patio 77.

El Patio 77 is a good choice for a place to stay near the center of Mexico City. The metro is very close by and tonly a few stops from the historic center yet El Patio 77 remains in a clean quiet area. The rooms and common areas are gorgeous and the eco-friendliness is real. The patios themselves are quite small but the friendliness of the staff makes up for it.

My boyfriend and I made out first trip to Mexico City this year and decided to go the bed and breakfast route for places to stay. We absolutely loved El Patio 77. The staff was friendly and spoke English fluently, the food was delicious, and the rooms/bathrooms were very clean and well decorated. The entire BnB was beautiful and unique in its own way. The eco-friendly aspect was definitely a nice touch as well. Upon arrival, we were greeted with hot tea, our choice of a piece of fruit, along with answers for any of our questions about the city. We'd totally recommend the BnB in a heartbeat to any traveller wishing to explore the wonders of Mexico city.

This renovated house in San Raphael is the perfect oasis amidst Mexico Cities crazy pace. The owners and staff are courteous and helpful. The rooms are immaculate with each one having a unique character of its own. Stay here to hide from the pressures of the city or use it as a base camp to explore the dynamic flavour of the neighbour hood and beyond. Breakfast was served promptly each morning and was varied and delicious.

Lovely B&B in the heart of the city. Located in an up and coming neighborhood, conveniently located to the metro and known sites. The staff is friendly and responsive. The rooms are clean, spacious and comfortably furnished. While you can get a less expensive room, I don't think you can getting a nicer experience for the price. Patio 77 far exceeded my expectations and I look forward to returning and sending all of my friends.

Lovely. The whole experience was top notch. The staff helpful and kind, the whole place is stunningly decorated, and the breakfast superb. The location turned out to be a treat too. Easy to get on the metra, catch a taxi, walk. We stayed 3 nights and enjoyed the room which was huge and comfortable. It was so well thought out and we appreciated the art, the architecture and the special touches like water left everyday in a beautiful pitcher. Being eco (recycling the water from showers/sink for cleaning/other uses) was the reason I booked our stay at el patio 77 but there are so many more reasons we will go back.

We've never been to DF and loved every minute of our week there! El Patio 77 is a glorious place to stay!! Diego and Alan are wonderful hosts, very knowledgable about everything Mexico City and gave us amazing recommendations. The room we stayed at, the Oaxaca, is spacious and beautiful, all the staff are friendly and gracious and the breakfast was simply gorgeous! My partner and I loved the fact that El Patio 77 is far from all the tourist hotels and in a neighborhood that is not in many foreigners thoughts but that's why we adored it. We felt as if we really did see what most tourists never do and that is one of the most colorful and quaint neighborhoods of the DF. The next time and I'm sure there will be, we will definitely stay at El Patio 77 again!! We adored our stay and can't wait to go back. Keep up the great work Diego and Alan! I travel a lot for my job, so it was a very refreshing experience to stay 2 nights at this fabulous B&B in Mexico City. The rooms and common areas are furnished and decorated beautifully and with so much attention detail. The staff are super friendly in a very personal yet professional way. Great advice on things to do. Ended up going to a small rock concert that I would not have known about otherwise. For those that want to connect: Excellent wireless internet! Definitely my base again for the next trip to Mexico City. Frieder (Houston, USA)

Very good B and B in an interesting area of the city. Many budget Mexican restaurants in the area and very close to the San Cosome metro station which is a plus. Rooms more than adequate and breakfast very nice with a Mexican touch - different each morning. Spent 5 great (and quiet) nights here in Feb 2011.

The first eco-friendly B&B in Mexico DF, the first phantastic hair cut in this city, the first carrots puree for our little daughter, and not the last one... A wonderful house with wonderful details of the artistical composition and design, wonderful owners and also bustling keepers: Diego and Alan, the switched mexico-france, at least by their names and the helping hands of the wonderful Bertha and Luisa. A really recommendable location!!! Birgit, Stefan, Freya and Ada

We stayed 6 nights at El patio. This place is awesome, comfortable and so quiet. We couldn't believe we were in the middle of this huge city. The breakfast prepared by Berta every morning is just delicious and I am missing this delicious organic coffee.

I stayed here for three nights and was really pleased to have found this place. It's a beautifully renovated townhouse (high white walls, polished wooden floors, quality modern furniture) with friendly, helpful multilingual owners. The breakfasts are nice and the location is pretty good- about 5 minutes from San Cosme metro station, which is only a couple of stops from the centre. Some (not all) of the rooms have a shared bathroom- if you don't mind sharing, these are particularly good value. First rate.

We only had one full day in Mexico City and were glad to have El Patio as our base. The hotel has been beautifully updated, the common areas and rooms (we had Hidalgo) were finished extremely well, clean and comfortable. Diego, Alan and Berta were wonderful, warm, friendly hosts. The taxi from the airport easily found El Patio with the map and directions they sent after we booked. Don't be put off by scare stories about Mexico City and the neighbourhood: on our first night we (1 guy, 1 pregnant lady and a 14yo girl) happily walked from El Patio to Zona Rosa and back at 2am without any worries. Our first morning kicked off with a delicious breakfast of fruit, yoghurt, quesadilla, coffee and fresh juice. A perfect start for our only full day in Mexico City - we took a Frida bike tour with http://mexicobiketour.com.mx and a tour with Mojdeh & Alvaro http://www.ourexplorer.com/tour-guide-mojdeh-hojjati-3275.aspx After a great 2nd night's sleep, we had an early start to the airport, Diego organised a cab and we tiptoed out at 5am. We can't wait to go back! (Don't forget to check out Alan's artwork and the eco-features of El Patio)

El Patio 77 www.elpatio77.com , in Mexico City was by far the BEST hotel experience I have ever had. The renovated villa is absolutely charming, with spacious beautifully design rooms, an atmospheric courtyard and perfection around every corner. The owners are lovely, personable and extremely knowledgeable about the city, and how each guest can best experience it. I highly recommend it!

Located in an 19th century colonial mansion, this green-conscious B&B might very well be the best B&B experience I have ever had, period. The B&B is actually difficult to see from the street, which makes its inner beauty even more impressive. The entire place is gorgeous, and every room is different, unique, and decorated with fine taste, enough to please a design maniac like myself. Every morning, breakfast (different every day) is served in an interior courtyard patio innundated with light. And let me tell you, I wish I had every recipe for those breakfasts, because they were copious and delicious. And finally, our hosts, Diego and Allan were incredibly friendly and helpful, full of knowledge about everything in Mexico you would need to know, as well as off-the-beaten track knowledge that was particularly useful for someone like me. In short, most of the time, I wish I lived there.

El Patio 77 is a beautiful, incredibly clean, full of personality place to stay in Mexico City. Although not in a late-night spot, its super convenient to the metro. The innkeepers are some of the warmest guys you will meet - full of suggestions and advice, and always available for anything that you need. The house is truly gorgeous, and all of the renovations are impeccable. A great place to stay in Mexico! We look forward to our next visit at El Patio 77..

I stayed 3 nights at the Patio 77. The innkeepers renovated an old colonial house in a very creative style. Each room has a unique style (I stayed in Veracruz). What most seduced me is the eco-friendly aspect : I had never washed myself in water heated by the sun before. It feels incredible! Thank you very much Alan and Diego for welcoming we and making me feel like home!

I can't imagine it getting any better than El Patio 77. The house is unbelieveably beautiful, and the hosts Alan & Diego go out of their way to make you comfortable - with travel tips, advice, cab-calling, and a delicious, healthy breakfast every day (we had always a fruit course followed by a quesadilla, eggs, or pancakes). The house has been retrofitted to be environmentally friendly - but don't expect any downgrade in design or comfort. The rooms are spacious, airy, and gorgeously decorated in Mexican modern style with Alan's art pieces throughout. This is a better "refuge" hotel - not in the very thick of things. We loved it. Also, the Metro is a 3 minute walk, and we found it a fantastic base from which to venture out to see all of the D.F!

A beautiful house, rescued to become a B&B. It's more like staying with friends than in a hotel. Sure, it needs some more furniture which will come with time in this new venue. The neighbourhood is not at all "tourist", which is a positive for me. Good location for business and tourism. I will happily stay again. Brian, Cape Town
