    LOVE the Golden Gate Hotel!

    My daughter and I stayed four nights at this adorable establishment. The location is perfect for sightseeing, only two blocks from Union Square. More than anything, the owners and management were all so helpful and kind. If you are a pet lover, as we are, there is a ginger cat named Pip and occasionally a Golden retriever, Cookie, to pet and love. Also, there were afternoon tea and cookies in the parlour. I would highly recommend this hotel!

    Quaint hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. Clean rooms with unique antiques and memorabilia. I would return to this hotel and would recommend it to friends. Centrally located.

    Affordable Stay in Charming, Clean BnB with great service

    Stayed one night 6/5/2013 Had a wonderful stay at Golden Gate. The gentleman at the desk helped me up the elevator with my bags, gave me a choice between two available rooms, settled me in and refused to take a tip! Different fellow was just as nice next morning and woman working breakfast very pleasant as well. Nice to see Pip the cat casually appearing here and there. The place was charmingly decorated, extremely clean and had yummy muffins and croissants in the morning served with coffee and oj. My room was smallish but sweet and I had opted for the shared bathroom in order to save $60 on the one night stay. I didn't run into any problems with sharing. The only thing I noticed was that with this particular bathroom, the shower opening was extremely small, so could be problem for larger person. Minor issue. Bedroom had sink which was great and bed, pillow and linens were very comfy. My only problem was that there were flowers that I was allergic to in the lobby, but more importantly, they seemed to be one of those places that used a scented rug powder, that left my feeling allergic in my room. Luckily I had some antihistamine and it was not too bad. If that is a concern you may want to stay elsewhere or ask them to not use the powder as they prepare a specific room for your stay. (I've had this issue with other places as well). I had stayed other nights in hotels right off Union Square which had it's pluses. But I chose this BnB for my last night in part because it was right across the street from the rental car garage where i was returning from a road trip to Big Sur. It is not the fanciest neighborhood and there is a male review theater down the block but even walking by there at night I didn't feel any issues. It is located UPHILL several blocks from Union Sq. It is two blocks walk East to entrance to China town. One block to cablecar stop. Would definitely stay again.

    This hotel was great and quirky with an original elevator, a live-in cat, and dog which appeared occasionally. Everyone was very friendly and helpful especially as we requested a second night at short notice.

    Charming room, lovely decorated. Very friendly staff, happy to assist at any time. Intimate atmosphere, for example breakfast at shared tables in the tiny hotel lobby. Great start of my holiday, definitely recommended!

    Convenient location with friendly staff, would stay again. Complementary tea and biscuits are served daily at 4pm in common room. There is a computer for complementary use in the common area to check the internet. The room we had was relatively small for a couple, but this is expected in downtown San Francisco.

    Golden Gate Hotel

    I spent a week at The Golden Gate Hotel. It is conveniently located, clean, well kept, and the staff are efficient and pleasant. I had a room with a shared bath, and while the room was small, it was cleaned every day and it was quiet. Overall, I felt that it was a good value for the money. The breakfast was strictly Continental, and I ended up eating elsewhere on most days. The Union Square area has a lot of very seedy hotels, so The Golden Gate is a real standout in its class.
