We have been staying at the Whale Watch for years. While the property location is ideal, over the last several visits we have noticed the property falling farther and farther into disrepair. This time was the final straw. The room was dirty, smelled moldy, had spider webs hanging from the ceiling, the toilet didn't work properly, the decor was extremely dated, and the carpets are smelly and old. Not to mention the bedding - substandard at best, especially for the money. We hope the new owners make the effort to remodel the property and restore it to its former glory. Until then, we will not waste our time nor our money.

We really would have enjoyed having the "inn" apparel available for purchase at the now closed gift shop, (my wife really loved the bath robes.) although the breakfast & snacks at the Inn are healthy & great, the local restaurants were a bit disappointing. north turned out to be the better direction for dining out ; ) We're hoping for another break from the "rat race" soon so we can book our encore.

We stayed in the Reflections Room and really liked the view. Staff was friendly and getting breakfast served in the room was really nice. The beach below the hotel was a good place to take a quick break. We saw some Elephant seals go by.

Very disappointing, maintenance issues, property is not what it appears online. Grounds are not well kept. Roof is in bad shape. Locks are worn out. Not worth it. Previous owner died and let the property decline. New owner is not bringing property back to its former glory . Breakers Inn in Gualala was very nice, much higher value.

I don't write reviews, but I read them. That's why I'm writing this today. We went to WWI last week because the reviews we very positive except for a few. Mostly everyone agreed WWI needed updating and I can live with that. We encountered not just updating that was needed but it was in near shambles! One of the buildings had a blue tarp covering the entire roof, the main building also had a tarp on the roof. The planter boxes either had dead plants or no plants and there were a bunch of broken planters in a pile on the way to the beach. The photos on the Web site must be 5 -10 years old because overgrowth of the trees took a great deal of the views away from the rooms. On the Web site, the rooms look fresh and neat, but in person the are very drab as we able to see several that were open.. We did not like the lack of privacy and in our first one room along with the size and condition and upgraded for $100.00 more a night! Oh my..The carpets are very stained all throughout the Inn. Scuff marks everywhere and in our upgraded room the main window was filthy, the bedding was old and musty with pillows that had not been washed, you know what I mean. The liens(advertised about) would come off the matteress with the slightest turn. The screen feel off the sliding door, the door came off the fire place, there was not a screen on a functioning window and the handle came off the shower door all within a few days. There were old flowers in a vase. The baskets were empty of soap and shampoo. We had asked for breakfast at 9:00. We rushed back from a walk as not to be late, however breakfast showed up at 9:45! The staff were nice but, you could tell it's just a job for them. Where are the new owners? It was not worth the amount of money we paid and could not recommend this bed and breakfast to anyone, at this point. It's a nice location but that's all I can really say. So, I'm writing this review because I was very disappointed and felt previous reviewers missed the mark!

We stayed in the Country French Suite and loved the room. It's two levels with comfy chairs, a fireplace and an amazing view up a spiral staircase. The room has some wear, but the new owner is making improvements. There wasn't a refrigerator in our room as promised, so the staff gave us a key to the empty room across the hall. This is a place to RELAX, no TV, phone, alarm clock and little internet service. Who needs that on vacation? All the staff is pleasant and helpful. An ample, delicious breakfast is delivered to your room in the morning. There are several good restaurants in the area. We would come back.

My wife, my baby, and I stayed at the Whale Watch Inn, in the Ocean Sunrise room. Unfortunately, I found the room and service to be inadequate. I am disappointed because after a long drive we arrived at the Inn, we peeled back the covers to lay our baby down for a nap, and to our disgust there were dozens of hairs all over the sheets and pillows. I immediately went to the attendant who checked us in and explained what I saw, and she just said "Oh no. Sorry." and handed me new sheets. I was required to change the soiled sheets at your inn. I did it, but now in retrospect it angers me to think that that was the service that I paid for at nearly $300 per night. After that experience with the used and soiled sheets, my wife and I had the "heebie jeebies" and couldn't fully enjoy ourselves. We were too worried that the tub wasn't clean, so we didn't use that. We were too concerned that the floor wasn't clean, so we didn't let our baby crawl around. It was disappointing that we had to deal with this on our 10 year anniversary getaway.

The poached eggs and banana muffins were out of this world. All the food was good, the room was a tad bit shabby but clean and comfortable. Thanks Whale Watch Inn! We will come back

We first visited the Whale Watch Inn over ten years ago. Since then it has declined but is still a special place. The views are unsurpassed, the beach below the WWI is a great place to share a rock and a bottle of wine and watch the ocean views, or to swim if you are more adventurous. The early August weather was chilly, requiring a light jacket. The Whale Watch has changed ownership since we were there before, and the place is in need of repairs- most notably, the roof. The landscape could use trimming back here and there and a little updating would also help, but all in all it's still worth the money. Breakfast was delivered to our room and was quite good, but missing the second morning all together and the front door to the lobby (where the coffee is kept) was locked at 8:00 when we came by...don't know what happened there.

We enjoyed our stay at WWI and would return. The view is wonderful and being lulled to sleep at night by the sound of the crashing waves is wonderful. However, the Inn is beginning to show its age. The employees we saw were excellent and could not have been more helpful. The new owner needs to invest in this gorgeous property. The journals in the room are priceless!

My husband and I stayed at the whale watch inn for our 23rd anniversary. I was a little disappointed at first. I looked at the reviews and photos and had great expectations. I even called to ask about the room and the view. When we arrived we found the inn in a little disrepair. When we got in our room our view was marred by a huge blue tarp, the jets on the tub where dirty, and the toilet clogged when my husband used it. We were told they were fixing some things in the inn. I asked how long the owner had been there and we were told he just took over less than a year ago. This Inn has great potential and we look forward to seeing how the new owner spruces up the facility. On a good note, the management did an awesome job and gave us a new room with a lovely view, very clean, and made our stay fantastic. We will make another trip up to the Inn and give the new owner time to tidy up :)

Absolutely gorgeous setting!! Our room was extremely private with stunning ocean views. We kept our room door open and screen closed to enjoy the crashing of the waves all night long. Excellent, private beach where we could continue to kick back and relax. Truly a one-of-a-kind place! The general area has limited evening dining but we made do. Afterall, we came for the scenery and solitude and for this, the Whale Watch Inn can't be beat.

What a jewel of an Inn! Perfect place to just unplug (although, they do have high-speed WiFi, if you must) - no phones, no TV, just you (and your sweetie, of course - I'd recommend taking her/him along), the pounding of the waves along the NoMendo Coast and the best hospitality to be found! The new owner, Elgio, is just wonderful. And Gretchen whips up a breakfast - delivered to your room - that can't be beat. No day-old bread and processed yoghurt; this is the place for BREAKFAST: quiche, homemade muffins, fresh squeezed juice and a thermos of fresh-brewed coffee...yum! We enjoyed our mornings savoring breakfast on our private deck (all rooms feature similar private decks) and our evenings soaking in our private hot tub. Ahhhh...the surrounding landscape and gardens just added to the experience. We'll be back!

The location was great. The breakfast was wonderful. The room was a bit smaller than I expected but I was very happy overall. The site's internet router had to be reset and then the internet was very good.

Upon arrival we were greeted and offered Tea and Coffee. Our room wasn't ready (we arrived before 3pm) so we sat on one of their many decks and just took in the view. We brought our dog with us (40 lbs) and he was welcome everywhere. Ambient music around every corner. We stayed in room which had sauna and fireplace and was connected to Whale Watch Room. Spectacular, almost private, beach complete with otters and sea lions. The staff was incredibly friendly and were there for anything you may need. Saturdays included a complimentary wine and cheese happy hour. This was, by far, one of the best B&B's my wife, dog and I have ever stayed in. Mendocino County is also one of the most pet-friendly places on earth. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a a chance to disconnect. 3 hours from San Francisco.

We stayed for two nights in the Heartsong Room. The view was excellent. Some tree trimming along the front will help with an even more impressive view. I would highly recommend the Whale Watch. IT was beautiful in the cliff room, I loved the wood stove and my fire, the view from the room and the deck were awesome. I loved the beach !!! I felt alot alone......when I went into the entrance no one came for awhile, and in the am i used the code which wasn't written down anywhere...but I just managed to remember it.....and of course no one there....then at the time for the breakfast no one in the whale watch room, until I checked back and some things were left on the table, but no one there.......weird to me.....just need more information when you check in written, and not be so scarce in the breakfast time......LOVED IT OTHERWISE!!!

My wife and I got engaged while staying at the Whale Watch Inn two years ago, and so we decided to spend our first wedding anniversary there as well. We booked the same room, called "Lovesong", with a private 2-person hot tub on the patio, ocean view, and a fireplace in the room... the delicious breakfast brought to your room, the serenity of the environment, secluded beaches, ... all of that makes every stay in the Whale Watch Inn a magical experience. Highly recommend this B&B for anyone looking for a romantic getaway, or just some relaxation.

I overall enjoyed my stay, everyone who works there is very nice and attentive. We went there to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and they had a bottle of champagne waiting in our room! The only thing that really bothered me were little cleanliness things. Like the large amounts of dust I saw on the bathroom fixtures, the hole in the tile floor, and the very dirty looking carpet. The bed was very comfortable, and the sheets seemed fresh and clean. The view is gorgeous and the breakfast each morning good. Honestly, I would have given all the categories 5 stars if the room had been cleaner.

We have stayed at the Whale a Watch Inn before, but we never quite remembered it like this stay, of course this occasion was to celebrate 20 years of marriage! We thought we had died and gone to heaven. Everything about the place, from Gretchen greeting us, to her serving us a wonderful breakfast in the morning was absolutely delightful. The weather and the views were spectacular, and nothing could have been better. We will be planning visits more frequently from now on!

The property is great. It has wonderful trees and access to a semi-private beach. It has easy access from the parking lot to each building. We stayed in the Cliffside room located in the Cliffside building. It has a fabulous view. The building is the oldest on site and it shows. The room was fine and met our needs, but it has few age issues. The bathroom faucet was hard to operate and the bathroom vanity had sticky, squeaky drawers. The fireplace/stove didn’t draw well so we had some smoke in the room. The breakfasts were very good and were delivered to the room each morning. We didn’t tour the other buildings or rooms but they appeared to be newer and in better shape. I know the place recently changed hands. I recommend the new owner spend a night or two in each room. That way he can experience the place as a guest. He can find the items that need updating and repair for himself. All in all, it was a nice place that we’d come back to. Pros: Great property, Great views, Good food, Good service, Good wifi connection Cons: A little dated. The décor needs to be updated and it could use some minor repairs.

We reserved the Bath Suite at the Whale Watch Inn at a special rate of 50% off the second night. Had a wonderful time. The Inn has recently changed ownership but has remained essentially the same since our previous stay. Staff and service was excellent, Breakfasts were outstanding and the Saturday evening wine and cheese party was fun, although they ran out of red wine.

It's really hard to find the perfect getaway. At the Whale wach Inn we had the perfect experience. Great food, wonderful room, nice owner, beautiful views and very relaxing. Our stay at the Whale Watch Inn was worth every penny we paid. The owner was very nice, our room was clean and warm, the views were spectacular and the sea life was everywhere. We will definitely go back. We loved every second of it!....Seriously the Whale Watch ain't has everything your looking for. I've stayed at other places and have been hugely disappointed. Trust me you will not be disappointed!!!! 5 stars all the way!!!!

My husband and I stayed in the Bath Suite just after christmas. The room was amazing. Really beautiful decor, comfortable bed and lounge chairs, and a great view of the ocean. The breakfast was delicious too. Unfortunate that the website doesn't have pictures of the upstairs bath area this room has… I was expecting a small room with a tub, it is in fact a spacious loft with windows overlooking the garden. We'll be coming back!

If you want a place that serves an excellent breakfast, has no phones, TV, radios, alarm clocks, etc. then this is the place for you. Relax by the fire and soak in the sound of the ocean waves. Upstairs rooms with skylights to view the stars at night, and a couple of rooms with spiral staircases up to either the bath or the sitting area. Peace and tranquility. They have recently added wifi but we didn't use it. One night is not enough to unwind, we think two to four nights is perfect. Each room is unique in its design and decoration; some have shower baths, others have large tubs. Bring a good book or a favorite table game and clothes to dress in layers. Steep stairs down to beach which at low tide one can walk the full length of Anchor Bay. We precooked linners at home and took our icechest and microwave as we didn't have a room with a kitchen. If you like elegant simplicity and a break from the 24/7 news cycle, this is the place for you.

This was our 3rd trip to Whale Watch. It's an older, yet very charming, private little place. The Lovesong an Heartsong rooms are the best, with the private jacuzzi's on the balcony overlooking the ocean. The staff is always VERY accommodating. We learned during our stay that it was under new ownership, and that the new owners were very responsive to guest and facility needs. I will always recommend this place to people.

The Whale Watch Inn is a real gem but could use a bit of polishing. It's recently changed ownership and I know the new owner has big plans. The place is just really due for a makeover, everything is a bit dated. The location is awesome and being able to walk right down to the beach is fantastic. Also, the breakfast they serve is superb. We stayed two nights so had two breakfasts served, they were different, unique and truly fantastic, I can not say enough about how good it was. On the down side as I said the rooms need a make over but I'm confident the new owner will address this. The wine get together on Saturday night was great too, the food was abundant and yummy and the wine was plentiful, we really enjoyed conversing with other guests. We loved that our dogs were welcome at the Inn and the wine event though I think a few poop bag dispensers around the property are needed. Would we stay here again? Absolutely but we're hoping next time we see that some of the cosmetic items have been addressed. Definitely a wonderful place with one of the best locations possible.

We came here on our 23rd anniversary, on the recommendation of a fellow traveler. The views from the Bath Suite, where we stayed, were fantastic. Private balcony views were great. We loved the spiral staircase to the jacuzzi tub, quite awesome! The stairway to the beach, although a bit treacherous, was a GAS to navigate! The grounds were very well kept. The Whale Room, Saturday night, was quite fun. They had a wine and h'ors d'oeurves event open to hotel guests. We talked with fellow guests until the event ended, and made a couple of new friends. Staff is quite accomodating. Our only complaints are as follows. The rooms are monstrously dated. Think 80's . There was cracked plaster in the room, something I didn't expect for a $280-a-night room. The "breakfast" was a bit too "froofy" for us, we're your basic "meat & potatoes" kind. All in all, it was a great weekend, but I'd be hard-pressed to be convinced to come back.

Not a big deal, but I read some older reviews and the cleaning of the rooms is still below standards in that the shelf by the shower in Cliffside had hairs that were not ours on them and this was noted in a review about 3 years ago. Also the CO2 alarms should be 18" or lower from the floor.

We met family members for a one night stay here, and were thrilled to have one building all to ourselves! Our rooms were extremely small, but the group area was gorgeous, with a central fireplace and windows on the ocean in every direction. We arrived after dark on a motorcycle, and my poor wife was shivering from the cool foggy twisty ride up from the City. The Inn Keeper Marilyn welcomed us with a warm smile and a glass of red wine. She helped my wife into a comfortable chair where she could relax with her wine while I filled out the necessary paperwork. She then walked us to our lovely private room overlooking the Pacific. She was the first of many warm and friendly people at Whale Watch Inn, that made our stay so enjoyable. We hope to return one day to relax in the garden and let the cool ocean air work its calming affect on us.

We stayed in the Whale Watch 25 years ago on our honeymoon and came back for our 25th anniversary. I don't think that the shag carpets and bathroom linoleum and funky bathroom fridge have changed in 25 years. The gardens and location on the bluff cannot be beat, but the interior needs a major update. The breakfast was adequate, but not particularly thoughtful or creative.

We stayed 3 nights in the Cliff Side room. It is very small, but has wonderful views and a tiny private deck. The furnishings are simple and somewhat dated, but very clean and in good working order. The staff was simply wonderful, friendly and helpful. The food was very good. We were right next to the Whale Watch room which is a community room with a wood stove and amazing views of the ocean. We were served breakfast in there, as were the guests in the Morning Light room. We sat at separate tables, but it was very friendly and casual. It reminded me of bed and breakfasts I stayed in in Germany, homey and down to earth, with great service and food. The steps down to the beach are fun, but challenging for older folks, watch your step! The beach is a very nice walk and dog friendly. We will definitely be back!

Glass of wine at reception was relaxing. Room at the top of a long flight of stairs--might have been a challenge for some seniors. However, the climb leads to a rewarding wonderful view of the coastline and bay south of the Inn. Music was relaxing but on/off extemporaneously. In room breakfasts were gourmet treat. Immediate shore access via steep stairs is wonderful. Saturday cocktail reception substituted for dinner--and the extemporaneous conversation was pleasant. The Whale Watch Lounge area has a wonderful view & fireplace. Great for board games and coastal watching. Many good restaurants nearby. Thankfully the Inn has free WiFi,area cell service is non existent.

Celebrated my birthday with a trip to the Mendocino coast spending one night at the Whale Watch Inn where we've stayed several times over the past 20 years. The view is incredible & the service very attentive and homespun. This trip we stayed in the rooms connected to the Whale Watch Room so it felt like staying in a big house. The Inn is showing its age and could use an update. Not sure the roof will last another 20 years and be careful not to lean on the deck railing as it is certainly in need of shoring up. But, it is still a great destination & affordable for our vacations.

The rooms at the Whale Watch Inn were immaculate and service immediate. We had a wonderful view of the ocean and the private white sandy beach was steps away. My wife really enjoyed it. She thought it was so romantic. A great place to take your wife or soon to be wife.

My husband and I chose this getaway based on a recommendation from a friend. We rented the Cypress Room. Breathtaking View ! Loved hearing the ocean at night. An amazing breakfast tray arrived each morning with specialty butters, a ceramic plate for every entree and delectable portions. The staff treated us like "family". Every question or request was treated with courtesy and grace.

We had a lovely time at the Whale Watch Inn. The staff were incredibly gracious and friendly. We stayed in a Cliff Side room with amazing ocean views. My only regret is that we were unable to stay longer! Next time!

When we arrived, we were greeete4d by staff and offered wine and hors 'de ouevres. We checked in and met 2 other couples staying, all from the same general area we were from. Everybody here was nice, friendly, and relaxed. We really liked the atmosphere. We were showed our room(like a condo almost) and had the exact view that was advertised. The room was clean and had music piped in at a very low listening level, until about 7pm We took a stroll to the beach(staircase was adventurous). We ate dinner at a BBQ place about 5 miles south, and the food and the workers were friendly.(the owner hangs out and greeted us) We left the next morning and were given homemade muffins and coffee for the road by the baker herself. We definitely will come back to spend more time, being that we had rented a convertible for the trip and had to return it due to time limitations. S & S Keith (Antioch,CA)

Our stay was outstanding. The room and all of the facilities were great. Staff friendly and accommodating. Quiet and a great place to relax, read, walk and... The last few steps down to the beach are something else.

What a beautiful B&B! We stayed in the Sea Bounty, which was a large suite. The gardens and grounds were in full bloom and were stunning. We had plenty of firewood and enjoyed our evenings by the fire. Breakfast was delivered each morning. You make your coffee and juice selections upon arrival and that's what you get every day. They may have a bit of a hard time accommodating special requests . The breakfasts were okay, not real healthy but adequate. The wine and cheese evening was fun with a beautiful spread of nibbles and conversation with the other guests. Out innkeeper was fabulous and most helpful in securing a last minute reservation for dinner in Mendocino. We would stay again!

We stayed in the Country French Suite for 4 nights over Memorial Day weekend. We had stayed in that same room 16 years ago. Although the furniture, carpet, walls, etc were upgraded, the room still had that quaint, private, and intimate feel. The room includes "room journals" where guests can write about anything they want. We read about thousands of experiences that happened in that room over the years. We actually found our journal entry that we wrote back in 1997!!! The old adage "If these walls could talk....." actually comes true in the Country French Suite: just read the journals and let your imagination take over!! We had a wonderful time and will return......hopefully sooner than later.

the Whale Watch Inn has so much going for it. Close to so many things (restaurants, historic sites etc), easy beach access, great rooms (get a hot tub!). We were lucky enough to spot whales both days we were there. Breakfast was delicious. This was our second visit.

We came for the Romance and Jazz and were treated to an early check in so we could enjoy the private ( almost ). We were met at the door with out first glass of wine. ( The first of many ). The meal was hand prepared all natural with vegan and meat. The local wine was so-so, but I had brought a bottlet of Wenth Nth Degree.. Absolutely magical two days. Katherine and Cal

This place is absolutely fantastic. We loved the comfy old age decor and the quietness of the surroundings, the sound of the ocean and the wonderful breakfast. The staff was super duper helpful, except this one lady who constantly tried to make things non-ideal. We had an excellent get-away. This is a must visit.

If you want a place to get away from it all and focus your attention on the beauty of creation and your loved one, this is the place to go. The staff is helpful and available if you need them but stay mostly unseen, giving you the privacy you came for. The breakfasts are amazing! They must hire a professional chef. The rooms are situated such that they take full advantage of the ocean-side setting, complete with your own private beach access. The rooms could benefit from a facelift, but they are clean and well decorated. Honestly, you will have such a nice time that you won't care that everything isn't up to the latest designer touches. It actually adds to the nostalgia. You will not be disappointed by choosing the Whale Watch Inn.

We just keep coming back here. Such a lovely little gem, and the perfect getaway for us. The view is spectacular. The Inn is charming. Everybody that works there is wonderful. Breakfast is amazing. We spend entire days in the main room with a fire blazing.

From the initial personal greeting and complementary wine upon our arrival, to the chocolates and fresh flowers in the spacious room with a great view and a deck to enjoy it from, the fireplace set for ignition with adequate supply of wood for our stay, the skylight over the bed for viewing the stars, the jetted tub and soft robes in the room, to the excellent breakfast of Belgian waffles with whipped cream and syrup, banana bread, hot chocolate, juice, and bowl of fresh fruit served in our rtoom at our requested time, it was a lovely stay. The the inviting and well appointed Inn is situated on a cliff above the rocky coast with inviting grounds and stairs to the beach. We went to sleep to the sounds of a crackling fire, the roaring surf and a light rain on the skylight. We will be back.

We stayed in the Swan room this trip. It is a beautiful room with nice skylights, a whirlpool tup and kitchenette. It is a very comfortable room. I wanted to wrap it up and bring it home!! The couple of things some MIGHT see as a negative is it is further from the ocean so the view is better in some rooms. Also, it is closer to hiway 1 so you may hear an occasional car. However, neither of these were a bother to us. We enjoyed the solitude of this room tremendously. The breakfasts were totally AWESOME!! I highly recommend Whale Watch Inn for anyone who wants to get away from it all for a while!

It was stormy and raining when we arrived after a very hard drive. Due to low occupancy we were upgraded to an ocean view room. The room was large and overlooked the ocean. There were ants in the bathroom! The next morning we found a portion of the ceiling had fallen onto a table along with water. Breakfast was very good and the staff were very pleasant.

Perfect romantic getaway! It was our first time away together and we got to enjoy our cozy fire and delicious breakfasts in the room. The staff is both attentive and respectful of privacy. I've also come here by myself with my dog and another time with a friend for some girls' time away from our men. Each time the stay is just what I need it to be. I love being able to walk on the beach without having to get in the car to get there.

The breakfast was homemade and very delicious. We took advantage of the Club House and had a nice fire (in the fireplace...) Our stay at the Whale Watch Inn was an important part of a wonderful trip up US 1. We highly recommend the Inn!

Upon arrival I was greeted with a glass of wine. The people, everyone, was kind and friendly and the staff was helpful and professional. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic, everything was made from scratch with freshest ingredients and beautifully presented. I come from the Bay Area so it's hard to beat what we have but I was thoroughly impressed! The only downside was that the room was small and I could have used more counter space.

We were running quite late and were relieved to find a very friendly host waiting for us when we arrived late at night. Our room was completely ready for us, with a fireplace ready to be lit, a hot tub on the back porch at the right temperature, and a bottle of champagne on ice awaiting our arrival. We couldn't see much at night but once the sun rose in the morning we were able to appreciate the full value of the location as we discovered we had a great view of the sea from our bed. A hot breakfast arrived at the time we scheduled and had everything we needed. A special feature is the journals in the rooms where guests have left many heart warming stories of their stays over the years. Looking forward to going back!

The location of this facility is truly very nice with wonderful ocean views along the bluff. Our room was huge with a high ceiling, a separate bedroom, kitchen and a wood-burning metal fireplace well stocked with wood and ready to light. The high ceiling and huge windows provided good views of the surrounding area but did not lend a feeling of coziness and warmth to complement the surroundings. While neat and clean, the room was in desperate need of updating and renovation with bad fogging stains between the panes of the windows, a well worn carpet and just a generally tired appearance. The bathroom had a single sink with a very slow drain while the shower-over-tub seemed to function well. Breakfast was delivered promptly as promised and presented attractively but was not very hearty, e.g. simple fruit salad and pastries and a pot of coffee.

This is a place that just begs to be redecorated, because the location is absolutely unbeatable and Miguel(?) the gardener/cook is so talented and hard working you want it to succeed. The big minus is all the furnishings seem to be 20-30 years old. There's even a set of hardcover Encyclopedia Britannicas in the Whale Watch Room, not to mention the corny intimacy board games for couples in there that look to be from the era of the original Newlywed Game tv show. Ah well. I suppose they'd have to raise their rates if they spend the dollars it would take to buff out all the interiors. Back to the location: It's amazing! And there are utterly charming (if maybe a bit treacherous) wooden and stone steps all the way down the bluff to the beach.

My wife and I stayed here while celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary. The staff was helpful from the point of planning our trip until we left from our stay. Very attentive staff, a beautiful setting and a great selection of rooms to choose for your needs. We stayed in the Bath Suite. While some of the decor may be out dated, the room was clean, romantic, had a great view, private balcony where we ate breakfast in the morning and also has a wonderful two person tub upstairs so you can see the moon as your relax your body from riding in the car all day. The room does not have a TV, clock or radio. I found this very nice to be able to disconnect and relax. There is wifi should you need. There is also a wood burning fireplace which is nice, though we didn't use it. Breakfast is amazing. Delivered to your door, you can eat in your room or like we did, take it out to the deck and watch the waves as you eat. Over-all, I was happy and wish we would have been able to spend more time.

5 en septiembre 24, 2012
My husband and I stayed three nights at the Whale Watch Inn to celebrate our 25th anniversary, and it met all of our expectations. We stayed in the Rose Room and it was perfect -- the ocean directly outside, and wood burning cheerily in our fireplace. Because there is NOTHING to do within five miles of the inn except to walk on the beach, talk, and rekindle romance, it was just what we needed to revitalize us in every way. (We did drive to the Sonoma wine country both days though, and spent three times what we had budgeted for wine. A hint, though -- do not spend the exhorbitant rates for a wine tour -- we tood the Mendocino Wine Tour and it was disappointing -- only went to three wineries and one of them, the Esterlina Winery, had terrible wines, in our opinion.) The only minor complaint was that our bathtub was small and uncomfortable -- when they remodel -- definitely not needed yet, BTW -- I think they should put two-person tubs in every room. However, the room was SO gorgeous that I would still give this a five-star rating even if the bath had contained just a shower. A very, very nice and very special inn indeed.
5 en septiembre 24, 2012
Our room was like a small apartment, complete with kitchen, pots and pans, and dishes. The view was gorgeous, breakfast served to our room was delicious, room was comfortable. There are no TV's or radios in the rooms, and that made an even better vacation with more time for sight-seeing and romantic time together. We highly recommend Whale Watch Inn.

We stayed in "Morning Light" room and for sure will be back. I can't even describe all of it with words, you gotta feel it. I visited Mendocino county for years and love the area, but this spot is certainly a winner. Dramatic view, sound and smell of the ocean, trees, fireplace, house vine and nothing else... You don't have to see any people, but if you do, they do smile... No TV or phone... Everything in the room made with care and you can feel it and breakfast was so homey that you just can't wish for more... If I'd be a shrink, this place would be my prescription for any stress related problems. Alone or with your love (if he/she is not one of your stressors) you'll enjoy it! It is the place to stop and smell the roses!

We enjoyed a 12 day trip to CA and visited Pebble Beach, Carmel, Monterey, then traveled throuth Muir Woods on our way to Sonoma. After 3 nights there we traveled Rt. 128 across the hills and came down Rt. 1 along the north coast. I was breathtaking. We spent 1 night at the Whale Watch Inn where we enjoyed the view and it was the best view of all the places we stayed. The staff was curteous, informative and and the breakfast tray brought to our private room at 9 AM was not only beaufully presented but tasted as good as it looked. There are few places you can stay where you may have a real wood fire, listen to the ocean surf, and enjoy the added touch of a full moon. WOW! My husband and I would love to return again. The pictures we viewed online did not give it justice. It is spectacular and private. Just simply perfect!

We have stayed at the Whale Watch a few times over a five year span. We always return to the same excellent service and surroundings. With direct beach access and the white water views you can't take your eyes off the ocean and beach below. At night you get a full show between the bright stars and the sound of the crashing surf with sea lions barking off in the distance. My family is planing to return again during the winter to catch the grey whales moving up the coast with there new baby's Go to unwind and unplug and you too will keep coming back.

This is the second time we have stayed here and again it was memorable. We needed to get away for our 10 year anniversary and this was the first place that popped into my head. We stayed here about 12 years ago and just loved everything about the place. Very quiet and beautiful. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The woman at the check in offered us glasses of wine as we checked in and then made us dinner reservations at the St. Orres. Breakfast is served at your door and was hot and delicious. They even let us pick what time we wanted it brought to us! Ahh Whale Watch-hopefully it won't be as long until next time

The aim of our stay at the Whale Watch Inn was a couple of days away from it all. Our room was perfect, tons of room, and could not have asked for a cleaner facility. We arrived mid afternoon, and were greeted as through we were family. All of the little extras made our stay perfect, the glass of wine or soda or tea / coffee on arrival, the chocolates, hors d;eourves and exquist breakfasts were far more than expected. The Whale room was awesome, and the overall location was perfect. The setting was peaceful and relaxing, and ony yards away from their own beach. We would highly recommend this to anyone and everyone wanting a perfect get away. We will definitely be back. Thank you.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at the Whale Watch Inn. It was quiet and intimate. The staff was friendly and the breakfast, while small, was very tasty and filling. We stayed in the Cliffside room. The picture online makes it look bigger and nicer than it really was, so that was a little disappointing. The view was spectacular though, so we didn't feel cheated. :)

Gorgeous location, with ocean view and access and privacy. The innkeeper appears to be absentee and uses a mix of employees to work a couple of days a week each. Employees were very friendly and willing to advise, but they hadn't really been to any of the local restaurants, hikes and attractions, so weren't able to give good advice. Breakfast was large, but not particularly healthy or creative. Room was fine, but carpet etc. needs some updating. If it were less expensive, we would been able to over look some of these items.

I don't take pleasure in writing this sub-par review , but I wish someone else had written an honest review of the Whale Watch Inn. If someone had done so, we would have looked for a better match for our holiday. To wit, when an inn purports itself to offer "first class" accommodation at prevailing rates for such, it should be truly first class. The Whale Watch Inn appears to be a shadow of what it might once have been . . . in the 1980s wherein much of its decor still resides. Photos of rooms on the website do not match the reality of the rooms which is, at least, a disappointment . . . and causes the mind to turn over what else might not be as nice as advertised. More specifically and in limited measure, the quality of the linens should be upgraded as polyester blends are not first class. Eggs, eggs, eggs - even when prepared differently and adequately each morning - is not satisfying. Stains on the carpeting and similar other quakes in the facade are not first class. We hope the Whale Watch Inn will improve and thrive in the future, but we will not return and cannot recommend it.

We stayed for two nights in July. Beautiful location and spacious suite (Sea Bounty). It has large windows that let in light and offer a lovely view of the water. The decor is a bit tired and the cleaning service is uneven. The kitchen has minimal cookware and serve-ware. The fireplace was not cleaned after we used it the first night and there are no fireplace tools or gloves. There is adequate front desk service. The breakfast is fixed and special requests are not accommodated easily. That said, those who like a large sweet breakfast delivered to your door would be delighted! It is only served between 8 and 9 a.m. so if you want to get an early start, you are out of luck. No option was offered when we informed the front desk that we were leaving at 7 a.m. The Thai Kitchen and Cove Azul are excellent restaurant choices nearby. All in all, we enjoyed the quiet and homey comfort.

I certainly plan on a return visit.

The Whale Watch Inn is a wonderful place to go if you want to get away. The accommodations are aging and could use updating but it was a very pleasant experience. Great ocean view with in room fireplace and plenty of privacy. If you are looking for a very modern hotel, look elsewhere, but if you want a place in the beauty of the outdoors off the beaten path this is perfect.

The Whale Watch Inn is showing its age. Not in a timeless sense like the (now sadly burned down) Gualala Hotel, but rather in a it-ain't-the-70's-no-more kind of way... That said, the rooms are clean, the furnishing are charming, the staff is friendly, and the location is stunning. We'd stayed there before, so we knew what to expect.

My wife and I have stayed in numerous B&Bs around the world--but the Whale Watch Inn is definitely one of our favorites. The incredibly romantic setting (slumbering to the sound of the surf, waking to the barking of sea lions, sipping wine while watching the sun set over the ocean)--is matched by the warmth of the staff and the delicious breakfast delivered to your door. A memorable experience!

We had been to WWInn about fifteen years ago for our anniversary and stayed in the Swan room. Lovely room with fireplace, kitchen and delightful bathroom. We returned recently and stayed with our puppy and this time we stayed in the Golden Voyage. We were thrilled with our room, amazing views, serene grounds with deer roaming about. We loved having our delicious breakfast on the deck every morning which arrived on time each day. The staff of the inn was extremely accomodating, and made us feel very much at home. They went out of their way to be helpful. We would love to come back for a visit again soon. We highly reccomend this wonderful inn with access to an amazing beach.

Fantastic stay at the Whale Watch Inn! We had the "Morning Light" room ... directly facing the ocean. Simply stunning! Secluded, peaceful, relaxing and romantic! Private beach and amazing low tide tide pools! We will definitely go back again. Good location - 45 minutes from Mendocino. You won't find a place where you are more connected to nature!

The staff was wonderful. Very friendly, courteous and helpful. The food was excellent. The accomodations were perfect. WIll be back many many times... Ate at St Orres for dinner, however, and that I will never ever do again...The exact opposite of Whale Watch...poor service and poor food.

We spent a weekend in Cliffside room at Whale Watch Inn. This, and the corresponding Morning Light room, are our favorites; not because they are the least expensive (which they are) but because of their charm, simplicity and privacy. The crashing of waves serenaded us into calm, healthy sleep; the beautiful sky-blue-pink sky against the pines brought wake-up smiles; and the clean see breezes were so refreshing! The breakfast is simply THE BEST; delicious, perfect portions, customized with our choice of juice, hot beverage, etc. While the Inn's signature owner/keeper has retired, the Inn remains in the family and the charm and style remain. Do not miss the Saturday hors d'ouvres get-togethers with fellow Inn-mates! Gualala is a lovely area to visit and the drives up and down Hwy 1 are spectacular and full of delights. HIGHLY recommend our favorite place; hope this doesn't mean it's booked up next time we want to relax and revive!

I took my best friend here to celebrate her birthday and we had such a fantastic time. We went mid-week and were the only people there, so we had the place to ourselves. I think it could have been a little cramped if other people were there, which is probably the case on weekends. Our private deck with a hot tub was perfect, but I imagine it would have gotten a little noisy if other guests were there at the same time, since the private decks are adjacent to each other. The staff was wonderful. They left us a bottle of champaign to celebrate my friend's birthday after we had been out all day, and delivering breakfast to our room in the morning was a nice touch. We'd definitely go there again. Oh, and by the way-- our GPS got lost going there, so keep your eye out for the numbers along the road. The sign "Whale Watch Inn" is a little hard to find if you're not diligently looking for it.

Tracy was very welcoming, friendly, and helpful. The room was lovely. I was fond of the jacuzzi tub with the ocean view. The breakfast was delicious, I especially enjoyed the hot chocolate and the waffles. The grounds and the view were great. The Saturday evening wine and cheese was quite nice. Our fireplace was smokey, other than that no complaints.

About three hours up from San Francisco, this is the ideal bed and breakfast get away. The rooms are amazing, with fire places, window seats, private decks, views of the ocean through the cypress and jacuzzi tubs for two. The staff are warm, friendly and attentive without one whiff of pretension. Walk in and they hand you a glass of wine while you sign in. They ask a few questions about your breakfast preferences so they can deliver deliciousness to your door in the morning. Ask them about local restaurants and they'll make you a reservation. The beach is beautiful and features it's own waterfall from a local creek. The gardens glow with well-tended purples and pinks. All in all, this is probably exactly what you are looking for.

Our stay at the Whale Watch Inn was nothing short of paradise. Quite romantic. The property was beautiful and wonderfully maintained. The staff was more than willing to get us everything we needed. Our room was amazing, the hot tub and fireplace were just what we needed. Not to mention the breakfast was delicious. Definitely going to make a return trip.

We only had their website to go on and took a chance on the Whale Watch Inn for a get-away weekend. We were very pleasently surprised. The views were outstanding and the rooms very nice. The service was wonderful and we felt very welcomed and taken care of. We both liked the use of the great room and took advantage of the wine and cheese offerings on Sat night. The breakfasts in the room were wonderful but the coffee was not hot (the only negative). We will certainly go there again.

My wife and I stayed in the Rose Room 2-17 to 2-20. It was a quite very nice room. We were gretted by Tracy upon check in. She was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The room had a great view. The deck was nice but the decor on the deck just did not seem to fit. Metal style pool with vynal strap seating and back. Some of the reviews suggest that the owner is very involved and you see her daily. Not so. Therefore it did not have the Bed and Breakfast charm that we are use to. It is a nice Inn with Breakfast served in the room. The room was dated. The bathroom was much in need of updating. So as for putting the money back into the rooms, well it does not apear to happen. As for the outside. you can see tarps on serval roof tops that must have leaks. Really not what you expect to see if the money is being put back into the Inn. Overall we loved the area and will be back. As for staying at the Whale Watch Inn we are undecided at this point. Seems that the only guest that review with the owner having been present are the radio and television hosts that have stayed there. So you just feel like you are in a hotel and not a bed and breakfast. Bed and Breakfast need owner involvement. So if you really want to meet other people and have an owner that is involved where you spend your money, then this would not be for you.

We found the Whale Watch Inn very comfortable and pleasant. Our host was ready with a glass of wine after a long drive up the coast in the rain. We had everything we needed during our stay. The breakfast each morning was delivered exactly when they said it would be and it was very nice. The jacuzzi tub was perfect with plenty of hot water. The view of the coast from our room was amazing. My only regret was that we couldn't stay longer.

When we arrived we were greeted and made to feel welcome from the first moment. The staff were all very polite and willing to make sure our stay was what you would expect from a high quality place. The rooms were great and the view of the ocean couldn't have been any better. There were steps you could take to get down to the beach which was really nice. We saw a bunch of Whale and a bunch of Sea Lions as well as a few Red Tail Hawks. This place was so peaceful we plan on returning about every 3-4 months. The Whale Watch Inn will now be our place to get away and relax. Having been to many places on the coast looking for that one place we could fall in love with, We finally found it here. I would recommend this place to everyone!!!

What a wonderful experience! We stayed in the Golden Voyager with full kitchen. The unit was very clean, bed was very comfortable. The Saturday wine and cheese reception was fun to meet other guests. Staff was very friendly and accommadated a late check out request. The views are breathtaking. Very romantic. If you can't negotiate the 139 steps to the sandy beach, just wander (or drivce) a bit South to the Anchor Bay campground and you can access the beach easily from there. Thank you very much to the Whale Watch Inn for being there for us to bring in 2012 in a lovely tranquil setting. From Napa CA

Whale Watch has got to be the most relaxing place we have ever been. The weather was perfect, the beach isolation is amazing. Quiet, serene atmosphere...what more could you ask for? My wife and I will be back as a "regular" routine. We highly recommend Whale Watch to all.

25 years ago, my wife and I had our first getaway weekend, and stayed at the Whale Watch. It was very special and magical to be sure, so we booked two nights as part of our 25th wedding anniversary celebration. The setting is spectacular, and the mood was much like we remembered it - as was the decor...that would be our only feedback. For the prices I would expect more than dated levolor blinds and tile that has been repaired and doesn't quite match. The artwork and decor were too familiar - they need to be refreshed to current colors and styles, and upgraded to reflect the quality of the experience.

It was an incredibly romantic setting, enhanced by the fact that we rarely saw or heard anyone else. The private beach and hot tub on the deck occupied pretty much all our time there. The experience was better than I expected, even after hearing relatives describe it to me.

Whale Watch Inn was our second experience along the Mendocino coast and was by far better than the first. There are several small towns in the vicinity with plenty to do, but we spent most of the time enjoying the phenomenal view from our room. Rooms: They need to update their website pictures because some of the rooms have been painted and updated a little and look much better in person. I would like to see them paint the common area, the pink was not my style. Most of the rooms have incredible views, we spent our first night in Crystal Sea which had a great view, but they had several rooms open at the time so we snuck peaks and they were very accommodating and let us move to the French Country room. This room has an upstairs with a fireplace and a view worthy of several hours of quiet time. Beds were very comfortable, bathrooms are a little dated, but hey… most of the places we looked at in that area are. Service: This was stellar. The staff are very warm and friendly. The wine and cheese reception had much more than just cheese and the view from the Whale Watch common room is great. Value: The prices were a little higher than I originally expected but I saw high prices all along the coast. My wife and I were both happy with what we paid for our mini vacation. Cleanliness: There are some bugs when you get close to nature. Nothing big and nasty, just smaller fly’s from the beach and the trees. Keep the screens closed and your room will be pretty bug free. There are some skylights that could have been cleaned better/more often, especially in the rooms where the skylight is above the bed. Dining: As I said before, breakfast is brought to your room at the time of your choosing each morning. It changed each day and was preset so there was no choice. I think they might be better off offering at least two options each day. There was one day I was not a fan, for me it was a texture thing but my wife loved it. The fresh baked muffins were very tasty.

The view from our room (Cliffside) was absolutely spectacular. I recommend getting this room, lighting up the fireplace, and sleeping with the sliding door open. The sound of the waves beating on the beach was perfect! The room itself is compact and somewhat dated. I didn't really mind that except the price was too steep for what it was. The breakfast was served in the adjacent common room (blocked off from other guests during breakfast). Gorgeous location, nearby restaurants, and nice walks along the shore from Gualala Point Regional Park.

I am a semi-regular north coast traveler and have stayed at quite a few Inns. Most are older and a bit rustic, which I love. Whale Watch Inn has many modern conviniences, but still has the charm and seculsion I crave on a coastal escape. The staff were wonderful, the extra perks were a surprising treat, and the easy beach access made this my new favorite place to stay. Another big plus was the proximity to quality dining and other entertainment options. I'm already planning a retrun trip with a more extended stay. The weekend just wasn't long enough!

Great stay in the rose room. I was there for one night for a wedding and it was very nice. The view is amazing and the fireplace in the room makes it extra cozy. The highlight was the service I got the morning I was leaving. I left very early for the airport and missed the breakfast....when I dropped my key off, the kindest man in the office insisted that he get me coffee to go and warm pumpkin muffins. It was beyond my expectation and was such a nice touch.

When my husband and I arrived for the first time at Whale Watch Inn to celebrate out ten-year anniversary, we were greeted by Tracy, who was a wonderful and kind host, and who gave us a complimentary glass of wine and upgraded us to the French Cottage Suite. The room was beautiful with a whirlpool tub by the bed, a cute winding staircase that led to the top floor with gorgeous views and a fireplace, a private deck that had spectacular views, and my husband and I fell asleep to the crashing waves in such a cozy and clean bed. The breakfast was delicious (homemade blueberry and buttery waffles, fresh fruit, and an almond poppyseed muffin), and the complimentary wine, cheese, and other delicious delights were a hit on Sat pm. Overall, my husband and I felt so welcome and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We would definitely go back in a heartbeat. Thank you!

Our visit to the Whale Watch Inn was exceptional. Accommodations are superior and the staff is friendly and helpful. We live on the East Coast and I wanted early morning coffee because I was up earlier than most of their usual West Coast guests. No problem! Lovely inn, lovely stay. I highly recommend this property. --Kelly, Orlando Florida

I am baffled by the positive reviews. I don't think our room had been updated in 30 years. There were dead bugs and ants on the baseboards and scattered around. The window seat was a hard surface covered with carpet. The fabric headboard was faded as the silk flowers, and dirty- I did not lean my head on it. There was a board under the ancient mattress. Thin, greyish towels. I wanted to leave. The place gave me the willies. The breakfast was tasty. Some member of the friendly staff had put a couple of pretty bouquets in small vases. But the owners clearly take no pride in the place. It badly needs scrubbing, updating and painting. The place cast a pall on our anniversary celebration. Sub-par. Dismal.

The setting was fantastic and the view breath taking. When we first checked in I was concerned about Hwy 1 being so close and being able to hear the noise from traffic. The sounds from the waves on the beach below were so soothing we never heard vehicle noise. The room was perfect with the exception of the carpet. It needs to be cleaned or replaced. The bed was out of this world, so comfortable we are going to buy one. Word to the wise, the bedspread was very dirty. There are stains on both sides, nasty, nasty, nasty. We will go back though. This is the perfect place to put the romance back in your relationship.

Romantic scenery can only go so far. We stayed in the Cypress room in August and for $240/night, one does NOT expect stained and dirty carpet, 10 years worth of flies in the bath fixture, plastic flowers, crumbling pressboard furniture, outdated and tired decor. Take the rose colored glasses off, folks. Whale Watch Inn may have been the ultimate romantic get-away 25 years ago, but these days it's over priced and feeling it's age. On the plus side, the staff of the Inn are wonderful.

This was the last two days of a five week vacation trip around the USA. We splurged a little on the price but it was the best money spent the entire trip. From the moment we got there, we knew we were in a special place. A complimentary glass of wine was served while we checked in, the room was outstanding and the ambiance was magical. My wife and I connected on a level not seen for many years. The walks on the beach, the friendliness of the staff, the attention to detail; all were magnificent. We were like two falling in love all over again. If you have a chance, do not miss this wonderful place.

I surprised my husband for his birthday with a weekend getaway. It was so much more than the pictures and descriptions on the internet. We stayed in our room most of the time falling in love all over again. There is a private stairway to the beach, which is a beautiful walk. Although if you are afraid of hights or weak in the legs, take the public access down the road. We enjoyed ourselves so much we are making this a definite annual must do.

We arrived to a warm welcome and were offered refreshments. After a long 174 mile drive that took 5.5 hours do to traffic arriving at the Whale Watch Inn was heaven. Our room was exactly as it was pictured on the website. The view was spactacular and the staff treated us like we were a part of the family from the yard keeper to the owner who brought us our breakfast on Sunday. Breakfast was awsom and everyone was genuinely great. We will stay there again and reccomend it to our friends and family (just not while we are there). There are no telephones or television so there is nothing keeping you from a romantic relaxing time.

Highly recommend the experience & hope to return next time we're in the neighborhood!

Certainly can't beat this B&B for its location. Wonderful views from just about anywhere. The staff was friendly and helpful and the grounds were well kept. We stayed in one of the secondary buildings, and there is a need to upgrade these. The floor underneath the tub felt soft and spongy as though the floor was rotting beneath it. There was a heavy rain one night and the roof leaked into the room. I am sure that it is difficult, given the environment, to keep wooden structures from rotting, but it seems that some re-investment in these facilities is necessary.

We spent two nights at the inn. Our room was immaculate, with an ocean view, a fireplace which we used, a whirlpool tub and the sound of the waves. The breakfast was an excellant gourmet treat, delivered right on time. I would recommend the Whale Watch highly. I would note that it is different than other B&B's here we have stayed, in that it is very private. Most B&B's have somewhat of a communal feel to them in that you dine with a group. At the Whale Watch Inn it is almost like you are the only guests there. Very, very nice, but a little different.

This was our second stay at the Whale Watch. The first stay was magical, so we had high expectations. First, I want to say that the staff was wonderful. Everyone was so helpful. However, the inn is tired and in real need of upgrading. Our room was clean and comfortable but 30 years out of date and threadbare in spots (desperately in need of new toilet seats). The building we were in had tarps on the roof. One of the things we remembered from our previous stay was the quality of the breakfasts. We were disappointed this time. A couple of the entrees had salsa on them, and my husband cannot eat spicy food. When you're paying $250 a night (we stayed 3 nights), you expect more "bang for the buck."

The Bath Suite was superb, with clearly with the loveliest of views from the deck and upper floor windows. The two-person jacuzzi room at the top of the winding staircase was a delight. The breakfast each morning was also very nice, delivered at the time of our choosing. Remember to turn off the ice maker before going to bed, however, as it is quite noisy. The private beach is kind of treacherous to get down to - not for the faint of heart! But worth the climb down once you get there. The "outstanding" for Dining was for the breakfast experience - not for the dining opportunities in the area, which are a mixed bag with not a lot to choose from. Also the winter hours (in March) had most of the restaurants closing by 8:00 pm. But it was great just spending time in the lovely room with a cozy fire burning and my sweetheart all to myself! We definitely would love to return again and stay in the same room! (A special thanks to Gretchen and Marilyn for their cheerful helpfulness!)

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Whale Watch Inn. As soon as we arrived, we were greeted and immediatley felt welcome. The room was clean and more spacious than we thought it would be. The breakfasts were very good. They serve a well balanced meal that was not only very appealing but taste great. Will be recommending this place to everyone and will definetly be staying here again. Thanks for the great memories.

I brought my girlfriend up here for the Valentines Day weekend and had booked the Rose room. I also had arranged for a delivery of flowers before we arrived. When we got there not only was the room ready but the flowers had been arranged and an additional welcome gift was placed on the coffee table. Needless to say this got the weekend off to a roaring good start. The views from the small private balcony are spectacular and the room appointments are tasteful an unassuming. For me this was a return trip after 17years, the last time was to pop the Question to my late wife. The Whale Watch Inn has not lost a step along the way; it remains an excellent destination to get away with someone special. As my girlfriend and I, we're coming back in June for our Birthday weekend!!

The Whale Watch Inn is a place to recharge your batteries. Away from it all, no phones, TVs, or children. Just you and your special one and mother nature. There is no other B&B that I know of that has everything that the WWI has, including direct access and to the beach and views unobstructed by anything from your private patio. The perfect place to eat their outstanding breakfasts and watch the seals play. Private two person jacuzzi, wood burning fireplace, and the ocean sounds. What could be better. You cannot go wrong here, which is why we have spent the last 24 years going back for a getaway retreat. A treat that has helped strengthen our 42 year marriage. Try it, you will return.

Stayed at the Whale Watch Inn many times over the years. The facility and furnishings are showing some aging and needs to be updated/replaced. Still, very nice place to stay for a getaway weekend stay. Love the quietness, ocearn view, the beach.

My husband and I stayed for two nights to celebrated New Years. We had an incredable time. As soon as we got there we were greated by the innkeeper and given a complimentary glass of wine. The view is amazing, we stayed in the Bath Suite, the upstairs has a large twp person whirlpool bath, they provide shamppoo, lotion, bath salt and nice thick bath robes. The room was a nice size and the breakfasts were delicious. If you want to be pampered and just relax with the love of your life I would highly recommend the Whale Watch Inn. It is a little pricey, but if you want to just spoil yourself once in a while it is well worth it. We would love to go back in the summertime and stay.

we stayed in the cypress room the pros: spectacular views, 130 steps to a secluded beach with seasonal waterfall, a wonderful breakfast brought to your room. the only thing that could be improved is the slightly dated decor. overall enjoyed our stay and would stay again in the future.

Lovely to hear sound of waves all day and night long and to enjoy the common areas. I didn't expect a negative low tide with wonderful tidepooling right below the inn.

Favorite place to go every year for our anniversary. We are never disappointed. The rooms are all unique with beautiful ocean views. The breakfast is delightfull and the service is just the right balance between attentiveness and privacy.

We stayed in the room with a hot-tub on the deck. Sitting in the tub watching the sunset with a glass of wine-fire going in our fireplace. What more could you ask for. Didn't even need to dress for breakfast-brought to our room.Sitting on the deck watching the ocean while we enjoyed our meal. Heaven

We stayed in the Country French suite in the main building. We enjoyed a fire in our upstairs fireplace and a lazy afternoon viewing the sea. The beach access is literally right at your back door and there is lots of great tidepooling to be done on the beach. Then you can climb back up to your room and enjoy secluded privacy and gorgeous ocean views. Owner Kazie is wonderful and friendly and the staff are great - the guy who brought us breakfast in the morning was so friendly I wanted to hug him. I might suggest staying in one of the separate buildings (not attached to the main office) for greater privacy.

When I need to find some inner peace, I head to Whale Watch Inn. Everything about the stay in perfect in every way. The weather was the hottest its ever been through these past 10 years, its the first time I actually sat in the sun on the beach and ate breakfast on the patio deck. Its also the first time I saw 3 deer and a fawn at my deck. Can't say there's anything that will bring you inner peace more than nature and beautiful Whale Watch Inn. I'm eternally grateful!

We were so taken by this place. The owner is a very up beat person and this adds to the fun. The stairs to the beach are an adventure but are well worth it. The beach is amazing. The breakfast was a total surprise so lovely, and the room, well its not a surprise if you don't make it to the beach at all. I wish we could afford to go more.

We have been spending vacations in the area for many years but had never stayed at the Whale Watch Inn before. We were attending a wedding across the street and made a 2-night reservation at the WWI. What a fantastic place! The innkeeper was friendly and helpful on the phone and everybody at the Inn was welcoming when we checked in. They even set out a bed for our dog along with a towel and dishes! The facility was outstanding and the breakfasts were delicious and served in our rooms. The staff were super welcoming. They also hosted a happy hour and tea/coffee were available at all hours in the 'living room' which also had a fabulous view. We will return!

My wife and I stayed here for a weekend getaway. We loved the room (Sea Bounty), and the service was great! The breakfasts were delicious, beautifully presented, and plentiful. We really enjoyed the Saturday evening wine and cheese event. The view was very nice. Will definitely consider this place for future stays in this area.

We visited the Whale Watch Inn for our 30th anniversary. The inn is lovely and the view outstanding. Everyone was friendly, helpful and always had smiles on their faces. We felt so spoiled with having breakfast delivered to our room each morning. So nice to be able to stay in our PJ's and enjoy our coffee. First morning was rainy so we built a fire and just enjoyed the cozy room, the sound of the ocean below and the wonderful little meal. Everything fresh and homemade. We will be visiting the Whale Watch Inn again.

WWI is in a beautiful setting. The innkeeper and staff are lovely and helpful. The breakfasts were perfect. The only thing that could be improved is the interiors' decor. It's terribly dated and much could be gained by a makeover! A minor second thing would be to increase the library of books for guests to borrow. I would have loved to sit on the beach with a great novel and hadn't brought one. This would be a small but appreciated touch.

We just returned home from the Whale Watch Inn and had a very pleasant experience. Each and every room has an outstanding ocean view, with the waves crashing only a short distance away and the sounds to go with it - very nice! The room was very clean and well decorated and the breakfasts were freshly prepared and very tasty. We were welcomed by a glass of wine and a friendly staff. Stay here - you won't be disappointed!
