My husband and I recently spent two nights at the Knickerbocker. The staff, the service, and the food were exceptional. In every way our stay exceeded our expectations. The Mansion is just off the main road, it's set back far enough to be away from the busyness of the village but close enough to walk into town. The Mansion is lovely, the common area is a great place to relax, there was hot coffee and snacks throughout the day. You can stop in for a bite or stay and play a game of Chess or read. We spent some time chatting with Ed, the innkeeper, who is so kind and welcoming. They really do their best to make you feel at home. Ed shared with us that they had recently acquired the property and they were in the process of putting their personal touch on the place. We are excited to return and see the transformation. We are already planning our next trip back to the Knickerbocker.

Perfectly located. Only a few blocks away from numerous restaurants and shops. A few blocks further and you can walk to the lake. The mansion gives you a feeling of comfort and peace and combine that with the smell of all the pine trees. We just loved it. We were there for only two days during the week. Our breakfast both days was first class, prepared by Chef Robert. They serve dinners only on weekends, so our next trip back will be on a weekend.

Warm scones were delicious. Nice snacks and beverages left out throughout the day. Common area was very relaxing and charming. Beautiful and walking distance to The Village and lake.

Everything was wonderful but the service seemed a little disorganized. We had dinner at the Mansion and we called for a reservation a week in advance. When we got there, everyone was waiting and we were the last ones to get our table. We were there before a number of other guests and assumed it was because we had a later reservation but when they asked us for our time, we weren't even on the list. Two other guests left out of frustration that others were being accommodated before them. However, they were able to sit us within a few minutes after the initial 20min wait and the food was fantastic. So, if you are able work around the slow and disorganized fashion, I think you will be pleased with the food.

In January, 2015, we spent 7 nights at the Knickerbocker Mansion in the Mansion Suite. It was a full 700 sq. ft. of open planned living. The room had a king sized bed, twin bed, sitting area, outdoor patio, and 180 degree views. The luxurious, heated bathroom had a full sized spa and separate shower. The room never felt too cold, thanks to the wood burning stove and additional electic heater. It also had a private entrance. The property was impeccably clean and orderly, and the staff was top notch. The restaurant was the best in Big Bear Lake and surrounding areas. There was ample parking for the guests. The new proprietors, Ed and Vickie were hands-on throughout our stay. They welcomed us at breakfast and in the evenings and were always available. They truly are the ideal hosts. After the first couple of days, they became friends. Big Bear Lake has been our winter vacation spot for over 20 years, and we've stayed in self-contained lodges and Bed & Breakfasts. The Knickerbocker Mansion eclipsed the other properties in every way. One of the reasons we chose the Mansion was due to its proximity to town. It was only 3 short blocks to the town center. During the evenings, we would walk to town for dinner and drinks, and always felt safe. The streets were well lit and cleared of snow. The menu for breakfast is fixed, but they accomodate dietary restrictions if they know in advance. Every day that we ate breakfast, we had a large serving of fruit served with gourmet finesse, an egg dish and meat. I was full until at least 2pm every day! If you are averse to spice, just let the chef know in advance, since he serves with a New Orleans flair. We plan on making the Knickerbocker mansion our home away from home for years to come.

We loved our stay! The owners know how to offer true Southern hospitality. All the staff is great and goes above and beyond. Great place to stay with interesting history. There was aways delicious hot coffee and pastries set out by the stairs for the guests. A great dinner and breakfast experience. I probably gained 5 lbs but it was well worth it! Yum! Would highly recommend this place as into opinion it's a cut above other places in Big Bear.
