We arrived at Lee and Philippe's impeccably restored chambre d'hotes in the early afternoon of a rainy spring day. The setting is magnificent: rolling green hills, fields covered with stunning yellow colza, quiet and tranquil but with plenty of charming villages nearby. Vezelay is only about a half an hour away. We were immediately taken by the beauty of their home and the quality and attention to detail of our room. The common room downstairs is a wonderful, cozy spot to read and relax. Lee and Philippe couldn't be warmer and more inviting. We truly felt as if we were part of the family. We had lovely conversations with them in both English and French, and left feeling as if we had made new friends. And, to top it all off, the dinner Lee prepared us - sautéed foie gras, magret de canard with a berry confiture, a mascarpone desert - was one of the very best I've had in the past year of living in France. Lee is a great cook and a wonderful hostess. This is a very high quality chambre d'hotes that I will certainly return to.
The beauty of this countryside setting is reflected in the inside of this lovely warm inn and its rooms. The hospitality is simultaneously unmistakable and discrete. If you want ideas to explore the surrounding area, your hosts have the information at their fingertips. If you need to unwind and relax, this is the place to do it, too. And if you enjoy excellent cuisine from local products, the evening meal is by all means not to be passed by !
Auberge de la Tuilerie is secluded in the countryside and perfect for a relaxing stay. The hosts are very hospitable and the food is magnifique. In the surroundings there are many attractive places to visit.
Quaint home in countryside. Not too far from Clamecy, Auxerre and Vezeley. A bit further than we thought but it was lovely and it was so worth it. Lee speaks fluant English, being an American from New York. Our room was spacious, very clean and modern chic with a country French. Flair. They renovated this home an opened its doors about six months ago. The interior has original stone walls and is absolutely lovely. Lots of attention to detail. Lee had recommended that we visit a tiny little quaint town about ten minutes away called Druyes. It was really interesting walking around there. The village also has an old castle that has more ruins but it looked like it was being renovated. It reminded me of the old style castle you see in the movies. It looks like they are open in the summer season only, so we were not able to go inside. Lee helped us selecting a place to stay the next evening and made some phone calls for us as well. She made some great recommendations for places to see on our way to Chablis as well. She was so helpful in every way and went out of her way for us. Lee prepared dinner for us and it was delicious. Lee is an excellent cook using organic vegetables from her own garden and the best of meats or fish. The table was set beautifully and the whole evening was delightful from start to finish. I am a bit of fussy eater and lee was very accommodating. Breakfast was ample and enjoyable. We are so glad that we took that little extra drive to experience the country, the ambiance of their home, the wonderful meal and most of all Lee's company. Thank you Lee for everything.
