Dal Makhni: Main Dish

Ingredients:

  • 120 Gm 120 gms Urad Dal ( Black Lentils)

  • 30 gms Red Kidney Beans

  • 20 gms each Ginger and Garlic Paste

  • To Taste Salt

  • 120 mls Tomato Puree

  • 5 gms Red Chilli Powder

  • 120 gms White Butter

  • 120 mls Cream

  • 1 Litre Water

Step 1:

Preparation: Pick & Wash in Lentils in Running Water and Soak Overnight.

Step 2:

Cooking : Put the Drained Lentils in a Heavy Bottomed Pot, add salt in water, bring to boil,cover & simmer until the Lentils are Cooked and Two Thirds of the Liquid has Evaporated.

Step 3:

Mash the Lentils Lightly against the Sides with a wooden spoon. Add Ginger , Garlic Pastes, Tomato Puree, Red Chillies & a Knob of Butter,Stir & Cook for 20 Minutes.

Step 4:

Then Add Cream,stir and Cook for 10 Minutes. Adjust the Seasoning.

Step 5:

Remove to a Bowl,Garnish with the Remaining Butter and Serve with Tandoori Roti ( Indian Bread).
