Candleberry Inn Creme Brulee French Toast with Grand Marnier: Breakfast-Brunch

Ingredients:

  • 6, 1" slices Challah or Country Bread

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter

  • 2 tablespoons corn syrup

  • 5 large eggs

  • 1 1/2 cups half-and-half or cream

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

  • 1 teaspoon Grand Marnier liquer

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup packed brown sugar

Step 1:

In a small, heavy saucepan melt butter with brown sugar and corn syrup over moderate heat until smooth. Pour mixture into a 13x9x2" baking dish.

Step 2:

Cut 6, 1" slices from loaf of bread and arrange in baking dish, on top of brown sugar mixture, squeezing in to fit.

Step 3:

In a bowl, whisk together eggs, half-and-half, vanilla, Grand Marnier and salt. Pour mixture evenly over bread.

Step 4:

Cover baking dish and refrigerate for at least 8 hours, or overnight.

Step 5:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and bake bread mixture, uncovered, in the oven until puffed and golden, 35 minutes. Serve immediately, garnished with orange twists.
