    Formerly the village school, Muncaster Country Guest House is now a four star guest house full of character and charm. Owners Sue & Vin invite you to enjoy the relaxing and informal home from home atmosphere and offer you a friendly welcome whether your stay is short or long, for business or pleasure. All our rooms are situated on the ground floor are well equipped with televisions, hairdryers and hospitality tray. A guest lounge with log burning stove provides a welcoming place to sit after a long day’s sight-seeing, cycling or walking on the fells. There is also a selection of maps and books which guest are welcome to borrow during their stay. Top quality food is a priority and most ingredients are sourced locally for the substantial cooked breakfasts and evening meals, which are available on request. Both are served in the breakfast room overlooking the garden with its abundance of natural wildlife including woodpeckers, nuthatches and many other birds. Parking is available in the car park that was formerly the school playground. For Visitors arriving by train we can, by arrangement, pick you up from Ravenglass Station. We also have secure storage available for push bikes. The guest house is ideally situated yards from the entrance to Muncaster Castle with it famous gardens and world owl centre. The coastal village of Ravenglass is a mile away, home to the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway and the start of Hadrian’s Cycleway. Wasdale with Scafell Pike, England’s highest mountain and deepest lake, Wastwater, is only a 15min drive. There are many attractive walks directly from the Guest House, for all abilities, from ambles to strenuous fell walking. The guest house also provides an excellent base for exploring the central lakes. Discerning tourist are discovering that Cumbria’s Western Lake District has all the Lake District's inherent appeal but without the drawbacks of congested roads and overloaded amenities.

      Whitehaven or Millom|Bus|15|Buses run every day from Whitehaven to Millom, with a bus stop 100metres level walk form the Guest House. There are 4 buses a day. In season there is a service from Muncaster castle to Whitehaven, using the same bus stop. Dial a Ride operates in the Wasdale Valley. Carlisle or Barrow|Train|50|Northern Rail run a service, Sundays excepted, between Carlisle and Barrow-in-Furness. Our station is Ravenglass, and we offer free transport to and from the station. Please ring in advance to arrange. The East|Road|40|From Keswick come via Cockermouth and Egremont onto then A595 and follow the route from the North. From Ambleside the normal way is via Coniston onto the A595 and then follow the route from the South. If you are feeling adventurous then coming via the Hardknott and Wrynose Pass is a scenic option, but it is single track road and very tortuous. From Bowness and Windermere the best way is via Newby Bridge and then follow the route from the South. All the routes take about 60mins. The South (J36 M6)|Road|53|Leave the M6 at junction 36 and follow the A590 signs to Barrow. Continue along the A590 to Newby Bridge then turn off onto the A5092 (sign-posted ""Workington and Whitehaven""). Then follow the main road onto the A595 past Broughton in Furness, continue on then turn right at the T-Junction. Continue on the A595 through Bootle and Waberthwaite. The guest house is about 1/4m beyond the coach entrance to Muncaster Castle on the right hand side of the road. Allow 70 - 80 minutes from the M6. The North (Carlisle)|Road|55|From Carlisle head west on the A595, sign-posted Workington. Follow the A595 past Whitehaven, Egremont and Gosforth. After Holmbrook, you will pass a large Texaco filling station on the right. We are just over two miles beyond this. Do not turn into Ravenglass, but bear left on the A595. We are just beyond the Muncaster Castle car park on the left. • Allow 70 - 80 minutes from Carlisle.
