The Trooper Inn

  • Inn Details

In the mid 90's the Trooper faced closure and conversion to a housing development, but was rescued from this fate by the wholehearted opposition of the villagers, who objected to losing their local watering hole. It was at this time that the present owners took over and embarked on the regeneration of this wonderful pub. In the years since, the Trooper has built an enviable reputation for the quality of its food and drink, as well as for the excellent level of service and welcoming atmosphere. The hotel is open all year round (with a slightly reduced service on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day). The restaurant & bar is open from Monday evening until Sunday lunch (closed Sunday evening & Monday lunch). Each room boasts a full range of facilities, including en suite, coffee & tea making facilities, Freeview TV, free Wifi access, direct dial phone, hairdryer and trouser press. The Trooper makes an excellent base for a relaxing and enjoyable break. We back onto the stunning Ashford Hangers nature reserve, and are well positioned for the South Downs, Jane Austen's Chawton and Gilbert White's Selborne. The charming market town of Petersfield lies just a few minutes away with London approximately one hour by train from Petersfield.

    • Directions to property:
London|Road|60|From the A3, take the exit to Petersfield at the junction with the A272 to Winchester, DO NOT TAKE THE A272 but head into the edge of Petersfield, where you will come to a small roundabout. Take the first exit left from this roundabout (Bell Hill) and continue up the hill for 3.1 miles, staying on the same road - at the top of the hill DO NOT take the left turn signposted to Froxfield - stay on the main road for another 200 yards, where you will find the Trooper on your right. Alton-Winchester|Road|4|The Trooper is situated on what is known locally as Alton Road (but not A272). From A32 (look for a staggered crossroads with a layby each side) take the turning signposted Froxfield and Steep and you will find The Trooper, after approximately 3 miles, on the left hand side in a big dip in the road.
